@Chaircover,i get what you're saying-that my dad's feeling 'better safe than sorry' and he doesnt want to take any chances. Im not mad anymore so its a lot easier to be objective about the whole thing(i still dont think he should've done it,though).

And to prove that she's gonna grow up she has to travel as far as possible to prove the point?
Not as far as i can-its not like im going to Sokoto or anything. It was either Unilag or Uniben(i come from Edo state). I chose Ben. . Its not like there wont be any supervision either cos a lot of my family is there so there are a lot of people to keep an eye on me and give daily reports to my parents. In fact, get this, daddy said he and my mom would take turns coming to Ben every 2 weeks to check up on me(its not like im staying alone) and he has forbidden me from living on campus(do now get what i mean by him being extremely over-protective?). Its not that i want to go as far as possible,i just want a little breathing room. God knows i love my parents to pieces but sometimes they just drive me crazy.

Under 18 or not is not my issue. I will only stop checking her phone when I find out she is matured enough to take care of herself. If she is in the University, I'll give her a break not when my daughter is still in Secondary school or hasn't passed her JAMB and she is talking about privacy. hehehe I'll give her six hot lashes of the cane oh her buttocks so she can focus on what is important.
I finished sec. school this year but it still feels like im in school. And yeah, ive always had good grades-in fact id go as far as saying im a nerd so ive passed my exams. It was God that delivered me from puttilng Unilag as my first choice cos if i had,my dad would've made me go to school from home-like i would've been going to school from home every frickin day.

@Inked,dont get me started about curfews. I dont even have a curfew sef. . When i was going to school(i wrote Waec this year),and school closed by four,if i wasnt home by 4.45,latest 5 it would be,ring ring, where are you? And that was when he started letting me take the bus oh-up until final year he was taking me to school and bringing me back. I cant even remember how many times i was called baby/omo daddy. Everybody must be home by 6pm. Im option 2-under 18 buh i pay my phone bills.

He does not have to know you locked it because of him. You can tell him you locked it because you don't want strangers going through your phone.
hehe. . Good idea. Here's a better one-i'll tell him i locked it cos i dont want my baby(ok so he's not really a baby anymore) bro stealing my phone to play games(he does that a LOT) and then runnin down my battery.

@Chaircover,do you agree that not all teens are susceptible to peer pressure? Some are, some aren't. Peer pressure has never been my problem-im usually the one who influences others and not the one who gets influenced. Its the reason why i can say even when 70% of my age-mates have been in 'relationships' multiple times,i have not dated any single person. It's the reason why i will not hurt my body by doing drugs. More than the fact that im not really susceptible to what people are saying/doing,it's because this isnt just what mommy and daddy are telling me to do,but it's something i believe in,and i will not take any chances with my future. Peer pressure is not my problem-mine is managing my temper. Anyway sha im kinda over it. I still think it was wrong for him to check my phone oh,but im not mad anymore. He knew i was angry and he didnt say anything(not that i expected him to say anything sha),buh since i'd  been camping out in my room he came to call me last night to come and watch our fav movie. Maybe that was his way of apologizing cos i know he will NEVER say sorry.

I lOVe reading! Although some might think my taste in books is real wierd. For starters,i dont like all those stupid romance M & B's cos they're waay too predictable-Boy meets girl,Boy loses girl,Boy and girl get back together again. I prefer reading mystery, classics etc. . Catcher in the rye was a good book.

Family › Re: Why do Fathers Love their Daughters More & Mothers their Sons? by Atreides(f): 6:57pm On Jan 03, 2011
I think there's just a natural chemistry btw father and daughter. Most daughters(like me) get away with more things with their dads than their moms. Like my mom can be a policewoman-always looking for things ive done wrong while my dad just doesnt stress me as much. It depends on the individuals involved though,i have sisters who are closer to our mom than they are to our dad. Im a daddy's girl because i have more in common with my dad than i do with my mom. The downside of being a daddy's girl, however,is that as you grow older they get VERY over-protective.

@2sleek,i saved up for it. I get an allowance and i save from that. I used to copy notes for people in school for a price. I have a big extended family-someone's always giving me money,or crediting me,or paying my internet subscription or worreva. Like i said, airtime is not my problem. As for me and my mom, even though we butt heads a lot,its not like we're not close or anything-I'm just closer to my dad. We have more in common.

Should a dad buy his daughter a phone ?
He's not the one who bought it for me.

Your Dad should also go through your Nairaland Posts to know better. Would be shellacking when we Guys are done with you, then you would give your Dad some credit.
I dont think he knows Nairaland even exists.

You will not understand now. Have your kids(esp female ones) and watch them grow into teenagers, you will definitely understand why your dad did that
Seriously, when i saw that post all i could do was wonder how some people's brains work. . And everybody always says i will understand when i grow up. That's probably true, but im not growing up/having kids anytime soon,so until then nko?

Are you asking me whether i have any heatlth problems? If so,what does that have to do with anything? If not,why the question?
There is absolutely nothing wrong in checking your underage daughter's phone. A father does not do that simply because he is curious or does not trust his daughter, he does that because he loves her and feels the need to protect her. A couple of years ago, I would have agreed with lots of folks here that such an act was an invasion of privacy, however, as I am now more matured, experienced, and wiser, I understand even more that a parent will go to any length to protect a child. I'll advise the OP to empathize with her father, and consider what she would have done if she were in his position. And also remember, the OP claimed that she is closer to her father than she is to her mother, hence, I assume the greater need to protect.

Then, I hated my mother for being nosy. But now I understand and appreciate her nosiness. When I have my kids, God knows I'll be nosy, albeit in a Tom-Clancy stealth like manner, as opposed to my loving mother's Baba-Suwe-in-your-face style.
Baba-Suwe? Hehe. . Now that's some funny ish. .

Probably he checked your phone to reassure himself you're worthy of his trust and have nothing to worry about. Maybe your phone had been buzzing a lot lately, and definately those are boys calling, Boys are no good, and him being a man knows better -- so he want to help you think, when you can't.

Talkin' about trust… Wait 'till your dad read your post and he might not trust you for a long time. This is one of those reasons he keeps a check on you… cause now that you're unmonitored, you’re washing your dirty linen in public. You’re still immature - relax and let him guild you to maturity: Then you can do whatever.

FYI - Your privacy will always be invaded (wait until you have a boyfriend/husband)… Its very normal, cause people need to be checked -- or we probably might go astray. Happy New Year
Which bloody dirty linen is that? Is nairaland not anonymous anymore? Happy new year to you too!

I literally read any book be it an article, novels, mag. Newspapers anything literary around me have been digested and absorb and I'm thinking if you can help with sites where I can download ebooks in Pdf format and about greek mythology how interesting can it be?¿
for pdf go to 4shared.com. The only comma is that ebboks aren't listed or anythin, you have to search for them. Scribd.com is ok too. As for the greek bit,its fascinating to me buh you might not neccessarily like it. The intrigue, the plots, the betrayals, the hubris, immortality. . I find all that intriguing. i can read through you.you already a "bad' girl, "rebel" in the making. what you need is a great deal of freedom from your Dad to explore the world beyond. But the world is scary, pleasurable, wicked, fun, and all that. I dont see you as a minor though. wish you were in p.h, would love to see you and teach you some things. Dont get infused with the mythology thing coz you might become a lesbian.
Lesbianism? Biko, how did you come up with that? Smh. . Wonders shall never end.
Happy New Year folks!

@Atreides
Ok I could send u ecopies if u wish. I love the series but I 4got dat he took the names from greek mythology. I love mythology too so fire on cos I neva heard the Atreides mytho.
I just started reading the first book. . A pdf version's on 4shared,as are all the others. And about Atreides, here goes. The term Atreides refers to the sons of Atreus-Agammemnon and Menelaus, and later pretty much all of his descendants. Atreus was the king of Mycenae. The myth begins with Atreus's grandfather-Tantalus. Tantalus originally held favor with the gods but decided to cook his own son,Pelops and offer them to the gods as a test of their omniscience(he wanted to see if they would know that Pelops was in the meal). Being gods, they knew what had happened, were appaled and refused to eat,all save one-Demeter. Demeter was distracted because Hades had kidnapped her daughter,Persephone and so she ate the food obliviously. The gods were furious, and Tantalus was thrown into the underworld and punished with eternal thirst and hunger. He was made to stand neck-deep in water and yet was unable to drink any,and there was some fruit near him but it always escaped his grasp. Fun fact-tantalus is the root for the english word tantalize. The gods then brought Pelops back to life. Pelops then went on to marry Hippodamia,a princess by sabotaging a race her father had arranged to determine who was worthy enough to be her husband. This sabotage led to the death of Hippodamia's father, the king. The sabotage was carried out with the aid of one of the king's servant,Myrtillus, after which Pelops betrayed and murdered him. With his dying breath,Myrtillus cursed Pelops and his generations,a curse that manifested itself quite bloodily in the next generation. Watch out for part two-that's where it gets real juicy.

@Shilling,in Naija you dont need to show I.D to buy a drink-you just go to the shop opposite your house and buy. I drink the occasional bottle of Smirnoff(cant drink beer or aything cos its too bitter,whiskey/gin give me heartburn so most of the time its Smirnoff i drink),buh i never get drunk.   Hang-overs are verry unpleasant. Besides,i dont hide it from anyone. Sometimes when he's drinking a bottle of beer i can be there drinking my Smirnoff.

Oga, now, you'r talkin about western mentality (when even a week old baby has it's own room), plus, she (the Op) is stil a minor. What privacy are you stil talkin about? Or do you think b'cos she said she's -18 meanin she doesn't have a guy that takes care of her (secretly)? Is she workin? Who's incharge of buyin her airtime whenever she has none on her phone(when she said her father doesn't do that for her, and the only good time she spends with her mom is 'Hi')
I, myself will give my children their privacy, but, not when they'r stil -18, feel me?

FYI, even a world famous music star, justin bieber stil get grounded by his parents. last year (some months ago), I read of an interview about him when he went to Australia, and he was asked being a young and teenage famous musician, if he's allowed by his parents to go wherever he wants to, and he replied NEVER, that even some few weeks ago (then), his mom just seized his phone and computer (I'll try and get you the link if you want me to).
Kindly show me where i said the only good time i spend with my mom is 'hi'. And if you'd actually read what i said in my original post, you'd know that i dont have any kind of boyfriend, hidden or otherwise. I dont need any boy to take care of me. I save from my allowance. I have cousins and aunts that give me money when im broke. Airtime is not my problem.
