Can u please elaborate on the TRV needed to travel
At the time you study permit is approved, a TRV foil will also be issued on your passport to enable you travel and obtain your study permit at the border of canada (air, land or sea ports). You don't have to apply separately for it. It will be issued once your study permit is approved.

we share similar case, after the sponsor has transferred the fund to you who will you state in your application that is sponsoring you since the fund is now in ur acct for use. secondly must your available fund cover for 2 years if your program is a 2 years program, it covers first year and half of 2nd year thanks pls kindly reply
Depending on the length of the sponsorship, you can put the sponsor's name ( uncle, aunt, sister etc) in the application form if sponsorship will exceed the first year of study. They will consider how you will fund subsequent year(s) even when you have your first year funds already.

If you have liquid funds to cover your 2 years program, why not! CIC requires proof of funds for tuition plus 10,000CAD for living expenses for atleast the first year of study. This is just the minimum requirement, you can surpass this minimum requirement if you have the capability.

I have seen a GCMS file where PA was solely sponsored by a parent and uncle but because funds was already transferred to his personal account, the VO in his/her submission stated sponsorship for PA as -SELF/PARENT/THIRD PARTY.

so no one can really say if the inclusion of PA as sponsor too by the VO was based on the fact that he submitted his SOA showing the funds in it. Personally, i will believe so.

All you should be concerned about is that you meet their requirements and you have access to the funds declared.

Please can someone in simple terms explain what Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) means.

Is this new entry requirement applicable to Study Permit applicants?
No, it is not. It's simply an additional travel document for Visa EXEMPT travellers to canada. Nigerians require a TRV to travel to canada and therefore, the ETA isn't applicable in both study permit application or any other visa application to canada.

Hello All,please help.!!!What do you think? But i have been refused a canadian visa twice now on the grounds of insufficient funds.Though the first account was a coporate account. The second is personal but they said they are not sure of his commitment. Now the question is,can i use a new account different from the first two for my third application or do you think they already have the record of my previous sponsors. This third sponsor is sure to have about 30 million when i need the statement against my first two sponsors that had barely up to 10 million.I await your revert.Thank you.
One thing to note is that more to the sponsor's financial capacity, an applicant must have access to the funds claimed or declared. This could be through a direct transfer to applicant's account or paying tuition prior to application and then transferring money for living expenses to PA.

You can use any account you choose to as long as it meets the requirements of tuition and living expenses for atleast a year and will be accesible by you the applicant.
Third party sponsorships will do more than just writting. They either can pay your full tuition, transfer funds to your personal account or swear to an affidavit of support.

I greet the gurus in the house, I am a prospective student that would like to student in Canada, I have ND in elect/elect. But I have a great passion for IT. I'm married with a baby as well, my finances are not too good as I really do not have much staked somewhere for this my pursuit of higher education. I need help on what to do and how to go about it. I would appreciate if anybody willing to help can drop me his number for some more personal talk. I believe you guys have helped alot of people achieve their dreams I'm counting on your help on mine too. Thanks and cheers.
In all honesty to you, studying in canada will require some significant amount of funds and you must show the canadian embassy that you can comfortably meet the financial requirements of any program you intend to study.
If at this point your finances are not so good , you can start planning towards future entry term/session when you would have saved up funds for your study and would have succesfully secured admission into a program that will best show pointers to career or academic advancement.

This is not to discourage you in your quest but it's more realistic when there is fund atleast for your first year of study as well as funds for your living expenses to show during your visa process.

An alternative is to get a sponsor willing to financially sponsor you and not just stating in writting.

All the best.

@bold, I'm referring to UAlberta and UWaterloo. In my field they're both ranked 4 and 3 respectively, so I doubt in that sense any one would provide significant edge over the other for trv approval. Moreover I applied for same course at both schools.

Thanks for your advice though.

With regards to switching after trv approval, must I be in Canada before I can officially changed programs?
You MUST be enrolled in the school/program you intend to switch to and if the school permits enrollment before you arrive canada,You MAY do that in nigeria and then notify CIC of a change in DLI from nigeria.

One IMPORTANT thing to NOTE is that your study permit will be issued at the border of canada, so notifying CIC through your account from nigeria DOESN'T in any way mean you have officially changed school/program.

You will have to show proof of the enrollment and POSSIBLY fees payment to your new school for CBSA officers at the point of entry to ascertain that you have met the condition(s) for a study permit and hence one should be issued for your new school/program.

So the change will OFFICIALLY be done on entry into canada when the conditions have been met and your study permit for new school/program issued. There is really nothing done from nigeria other than notifying CIC or enrolling online in new school/program. The border is the main place of the change since you'll be arriving with a new offer letter. If you don't satisfy them there, a study permit for your new program/school may not be issued.

Thanks for the response. I dont think either of the schools I present a better chance at trv. My motivations for my dream school are mostly sentimental.

I just want to know the possibilities. You're given a deadline to accept an offer, so I don't want to pass this one by and then get rejected.

If trv is granted, is the process of switching schools cumbersome?
At what instance have you made this judgement?@bold

Better chance here should mean level of study, in-line with previous study or current activity (work, research) and not necessarily something else. Any offer with a DLI code on it is very well approved and qualified to seek a study permit be it top ranked or least ranked school.

You can accept your offer and still get admitted to as many schools that you have applied to if there is still time for you. Main thing is that, you at the end select the offer that best represent and align your progressive interest, future achievements and goals to a visa officer while also showing consistency in either work or study. This is the outgoing basis your decision and choice should be made on when choosing which to apply for a study permit with.

All the same, In changing schools, you must meet the conditions of being enrolled and actively pursing your study at a DLI and must also notify CIC of such change. It's pretty much straight forward. You only need to follow the guidelines.

Ogas wey dey house, I hail!

Abeg I'd like to know if it's okay to accept admission to two schools.

For example, if I applied to two schools and I get admission to one of them, but my dream school is yet to decide.

If I use my current school to apply for study permit, and during the period I get accepted by my dream school, can I still accept and attend that one?

What would be involved? Is it a complicated process?
You can and will follow the procedure of changing programs or institution.

Nevertheless, you should wait and get admitted to a program that will give you a better chance of obtaining a study permit be it your "dream school" or any other one as it is one thing to get admission and another to get a study permit.

If your "dream" school offer will give you a higher chance, you should wait for it and apply for a study permit with that.

Hi guys, I am looking to submit my student visa app by the end of this month, but i have few questions.

1)my major sponsor's Intl passport is expired and she is not looking to get it renewed anytime soon. Is it OK to include it in my application like that?

2) do I have to book for upfront medicals or do I just visit the designated medical practitioner at working hours?

3) which route is most adviceable, paper/online?

4) Can I get an experienced person to help review my app before submission?

This forum as saved me money....Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the rich Info's we have here.
1.Any other identification document of your sponsor is fine.

2.Most CIC approved hospital will require that you book an appointment ahead either through a call or email.

3.Both routes are advisable. Online was introduced for just convenience. Both are subject to the same review and processing time.

4.From the information here, You too can become experienced. If you make out time to read carefully, you can fully review your application yourself. Most things and area you need to put in place have been and still being discussed here.

Many thanks for your swift reply. I think aside the funding I am expecting which will be more than enough, I have got no job........From bachelors to PhD.... I will be able to show proof of landed properties of my retired parents. However, I don not know if this will be convincing enough to make the VO believe I will be coming back? It all depends on how I present my case.
Your family members here in nigeria is a good hometie. If you can also have assets in YOUR name, it will add too.

Good a thing you are aware that your chances will also be dependent on how you present your case. So do so and hopefully, it will turn out well.

Guys, I am Hamid by name. I applied to the University of Saskatchewan and my offer letter is here(PhD Biomedical Engineering), I await funding. Could you please let me know how long it takes for the Canadian embassy to process study permits? In addition, what documents do you think will be necessary for the application process?
Congratulation on your offer. Firstly, if you intend to use the school funding as evidence of available funds, you will have to wait for it before you can ascertain if it will be sufficient or not.

The proceesing time for a canadian study permit for nigerian applicants as of today is 17 weeks. However, this is just a window period, it could be less or more.

Aside sufficient funds, you will have to show strong hometie(s) in nigeria(family, business, employment, assets, etc) that will propel you to return upon completion of your program.
I believe with a PhD admission, your previous activities would have been in your intended field.

Officers MAY also want to know what your PLAN with a PhD degree would be, so you should consider writting a brief one page statement of purpose to elaborate on this.

Need help on how to fill this part. Was denied in November 2016 for insufficient funds. Please what do i write in the provide details section?

Secondly, i didnt disclose my previous US refusal but was however lucky the VO didnt spot it. I intend to disclose that this time around. What details should i write there.

Please help a friend. thanks
Good decision to declare your US refusal this time around. You should write you were refused a US visa in so so year and also refused a study permit for insufficient funds.

By the way, the correct box to tick for the question " Have you previously applied to enter or remain in canada" should be NO.
It should be Yes only if you applied for or were denied a permit/visa renewal or extension after one was previously issued.

Tick YES to the question of being refused a permit or visa to canada or any other country.

Thanks Austinpee.

i have a law background but as i said i work in a big four for over 8 years and am in a manager. the MBA will help me gain general competency in all functional management role. As i said , my intention is to have my twin girls (1o years) come in after some months before their visitor visa expires and then get it extended in Canada. hubby has business in Nigeria so he wont be applying for spousal permit but will renew his visiting visa and be coming in and out

should i include the fact that my son has a medical condition and on medication and support with all doctors report? or i should be silent on that. Although he is independent despite his medication but he just needs to be monitored. My son is 8years.

can i include my pension statement in my application? does it count as financial asset?
Well, since all your family members have visiting visas already, there really won't be a need to file any further application for him. He can go with you to canada on the visiting visa he has without even mentioning it in your application. Not like you are trying to get a visitor's visa for him, he has one already. So just apply for your study permit, once it's approved, you travel with your son and possibly extend his visa in canada as a dependent child or when you find a school there for him to enroll.

The must also be reasons for further visa extension for your other children. You can enroll them in school when they arrive later and apply for a change in their visa conditions as well as extension.

And yes, you can include your pension statement. It serves both as financial asset and home ties.

Every other thing seems alright. You should be good to go with your study permit application.

All the best to you.

No, a job offer is NOT a requirement for a spouse open work permit. She will get the work permit to work full time while you study and MAY work part-time. The OPEN means she can apply without a job offer and can work without restriction.

Ok in my own opinion, when pple normally proposed not applying with a child or children, it's not only bcox of d financial weight this might incure on their TRV application.

Let's get this straight, Study permit is the ultimate goal of an applicant going for study purpose. if u are going with a child would have said you should go ahead, but for me going for study and going with almost ur entire family is a red flag, cox alot would be considered in this. Are u going there to actually study or u want to migrate as an immigrant? Going with ur children in the eyes of the VO myt look lik a distraction to ur study plans.

Thank God finance is not ur problem, I would advice you first get ur TRV first. The thing is getting ur family to visit after getting that TRV is lot easier than going with 3 children at a time. These children and husband alone is good as your hometies. This is just my opinion and I don't consider myself a guru on this thread, I only advice based on lil I know. So the gurus can share more lights on this.

All the best in ur pursuit.
Very valid points. I agree with you bro.

good to hear all the good news of TRV.

i have admission for masters in Vancouver island university for septemer 2017. my entire family recently obtained a visitors visa which will expire in November 2017. i have three children and but intend to apply for study permit with my son who is 8years and the youngest (have twin girls who will stay back temporarily). He is on some medication so cant leave him.

i want to find out if this is a good step. i intend applying in may with my husband as the main sponsor, he runs a company and will be providing all the documents. I also run a salon and intend to use this as home ties ( balance of abt 3m with activities). i work with one of the big 4 accounting firm and will be able to obtain study leave letter.

kindly let me know if i am on track. Also my hubby will come in later with my daughters for visit and then i intend to file for extension for my children to stay with me (hope this is possible) as their visa will expire in November.

will appreciate the guru's response and advise.
If both you and your husband have the financial capacity for you to go with your son, why not!.

You will still have to point it out that him needing attention will not in any way be a distraction to your study and with good financial strength and strategies, you MAY convince a visa officer that adequate attention will be given to him while you indulge in your study.

Your husband and your other two children are good hometies for you including your business.

Now, aside all the circumstance and profile of you and family, the main reason for going to study must be put into perspective.
1. Is your master admission in any way related to your current activity or degree? (hoping it is accounting/financial related)

Once your purpose of visit is in line with your current activities and overall aspiration and interest and your financial capacity can withstand any additional family member you intend to apply with, you sure have a good chance of obtaining your study permit.

However, everything must be put forth outrighly, simply and convincingly to indicate that you the principal applicant is the whole idea of applying for a study permit.

When you eventually obtain your study permit, you can decide to apply for a spouse open work permit (SOWP) for your husband or he renews his current visa before it expires. Your other kids also will have to renew their visiting visas too.
You can find useful info about extension of visiting visas from within canada here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp

Regards.

Goodday huz, really appreciate the important information being shared on this trend. Pls hux i need your clarification on some issues bothering on my further studies. I graduated from petroleum engr 4yrs back with a 3.0cgpa, since i finished my nysc i av been doing a small job as a Project Engineer in a civil and mechanical engr coy. I have been really dissatisfied with the job because of the pay and i intend pursuing further studies. My question is considering my studies and experience at work i am torn btw an advanced diploma in petroleum engr because of my first degree or an advanced diploma in mechanical engr because of work experience. In terms of interest i am ok with either of both but my concern is which of this will favour my visa process and also help my future career prospect. Thank you for your assistance.
Bro, i hope this DISSATISFACTION will only be in your mind and will not in any way surface or show in your application to suggest it is at that stance you are seeking a study permit for study. Man of God, you will be shooting yourself with a double barrel on your ankle if otherwise. E dey pain pass!

While it is understandable about how you feel from a nigerian perspective, a visa officer won't see your intentions as genuine if you mistakenly show or mention this in any part of your application. Not even your statement of purpose should ever suggest that!

Having pointed that out, Your intended study should be an advancement or improvement on your current/most recent activity which apparently is the project engineer job. You petroleum degree and intentions should be eliminated at this time because it will be quite difficult to prove that it is the area that will best add to you.

Advise #1: your intended program should be in your current work field.

Secondly, the idea of an advanced diploma after a bachelor degree and 3-4 years work experience might just not be right for you as an advanced diploma in canada preceeds a bachelor's degree program and some may lead to a bachelor degree.
Having obtained a bachelor's degree already, it is NOT an academic progression for you. It simply won't fly.

Advise #2 : Try to go for a master degree program or atleast a post graduate diploma( You will have to convience a VO very well)

So in whatsoever decision you make, you must show great interest, work and enthusiasm about an intended program. It has to be your current activity/occupation, avoid advanced diploma.

My sincere appreciation goes to God for sending Horpsy5 to me in mid-December.

She came to me, via this platform, seeking help to get supervisor(s). I told her my strategy of bombarding all professor in my field of interest with well drafted email, no matter the school or location, so long it is masters.

In an attempt to provide her with list of some potential universities in her field, I realised I haven't emailed any Prof in Calgary. Immediately, I sent an email with my well drafted research proposal to about 4 profs in my area of interest there, telling them I need supervisor for the research. Amazingly, I got two yes in less than 24hrs.

I didn't know what instrument she will be then, but now I know, cos UofToronto rejected me, and I just received an email from my Uvic prof that my first class GP is too low for funding, according to their committee, and her research funding application is yet to be successful, as such, she advised I postponed my Canada study intention due to high cost of study and living. Not knowing God don click am elsewhere.

Once again, I appreciate God, Horpsy5, and theSoj for my Calgary application. God bless you both.

To Horpsy5: Please don't give up on your dream. It may take years, but keep the faith high and be persistence.

To all admission decision waiters: God will make a way, expect the best. It may tarry, but fight and believe it will happen.

To all prospective applicant: Always have a backup plan with good application documents. Seek opinions from others and endeavor to help one another.

My Calgary application from the beginning till now thaught me to help others on this forum. I am not a fan of it cos it can very be distracting to your personal plans.

Thank you all, it shall end with praises.

I tap into the testimonies, grace and favour of the successful ones that have gotten their TRV approved. And for the unsuccessful ones don't you ever give up or be discouraged trust in God and give it one more shot but always remember to take corrections.
I am a beneficiary of the NDDC 2016 Post graduate Scholarship.
I have a LOA from Memorial University to study to Masters of Applied Sciences in Oil and Gas Engineering but I am a graduate of Geological Sciences(2013).
The full program tuition fees is 25,000CAD for a duration of 2 years.
The scholarship is worth 30,000USD
I run a company with my uncle but he is the sole signatory to company account(good inflow and outflow of cash).
I intend to use the Scholarship as main sponsor and my uncle as co-sponsor in applying for my Study permit.
I did my internship in a petroleum engineering company and currently undergoing an unpaid training program(Nov 2015-till date)
I have a landed property.

I humbly request the great services of the TRV doctors @austinpee @yemdogg @ folaroyal @ justwise @thesoj @michV to analyse critically from all angles the possible perspective of a VO on my TRV decision.
I also need guidance on the documents to present. I will mail my SOP to you gurus for vetting.
My program starts !st september and I want to apply for study permit this month or next.

Thanks in anticipation of a positive response.
I trust I will be properly guided and I am open to all opinions and contributions.
Brotherly, you are well on your way to canada if you can put finishing touches to your profile and application. A moniker here got her study permit with similar schoolarship and her tuition for 2 years is alittle higher than yours.

Your uncle just need to stand in as co-sponsor to you, include an affidavit of support as well as the account statement.

Geological sciences is related and applicable in the oil and gas field and since you have some work experience in the form of an intenship and currently undergoing an unpaid training in oil and gas too, your chances of an approval is quite high. So you need to add all the documents showing you have been busy in the oil and gas field since completion of undergrad. (training, intenship letters)

Family is one strong ties an individual can have in nigeria. If your family members are here, make sure you include them in the family information form, add their birth certificates if you can. The landed property will stand too as a tie to nigeria.

Finally, your application should be pretty straight forward as you have sufficient funds in a schoolarship and co-sponsorship. You have had previous and recent activity in the oil and gas field. Use your SOP to elaborate on the gains of your program upon completion and i assume the schoolarship body would have written on the letter that you will be expected to return home to use the knowledge to develop the Niger delta.

Part of your SOP should form statements surrounding that expectation and and other aspects of your career.

All the best in your application and endeavours. Regards.
