I'm not a finance expert so I can't claim to know if the country is broke or not but what I take from this rebuttal is the manner in which it was presented; something Abati and Okupe should take note of

On a side note, how would you have a best friend you cannot trust?

Politics › Re: Jonathan Using A Light Microscope At Federal University Otuoke by AZeD1(m): 9:42am On Jun 30, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: I completely disagree with you. There's need to create more universities, whether privately or publicly owned. The data from JAMB shows that less than 40% of those who seek higher education are eventually taken due to lack of space.

While expanding the existing federal universities is part of the solution to the problem of assess, it should not preclude creation of additional federal universities.

And why should Anambra have a federal university and not Zamfara, Ekiti or Ebonyi? Do the people of Anambra have two heads?

The benefits of having a federal university in any locality is enormous- from job creation, more assess to higher education for locals, running of specialized programmes targetted at local problems, etc.

And who says these new universities will ever be closed down? These are federal universities for goodness sake. No matter the degree of financial crisis at the federal level, the last thing that'll be on the mind of any leader of this country will be closing down the only federal university in a state. These universities can only grow from strenght to strenght.

Also the existing universities are receiving special grants for expansion, consolidation and improved quality. But this is being done in phases.
No matter how you spin it, quality always beats quantity.
There are lots of unemployed graduates roaming the streets because they are unemployable and instead of championing the upgrading of current universities you are busy applauding mediocrity.
As for the job creation nonsense you wrote up there, if the current universities were any good, then the billions of naira spent by Nigerians to study outside the country would stay in Nigeria.
Do you know how much the FG spends on foreign scholarships?
As I said earlier, quality >>>>> quantity
Family › Re: Is Ben 10 Cartoon Appropriate For Children? by AZeD1(m): 10:45pm On Jun 29, 2013
Recently i was in my parents house and i was watching an action film(serious gun fight), my mum came in and said "A-ZeD you have not changed". Her point being that when i was young, i watched action films and even joined the action with my toy gun. Even with all the action films i watched as a young kid, i turned out better than all my deeper life friends who grew up without tv.
Moral of the story: Train you child well and stop blaming cartoons for your failures.

Politics › Re: Thanks To The Multitude Of Sincere Nigerians On NL by AZeD1(m): 5:38pm On Jun 28, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: There is a difference between opposing the President as a person and opposing any unfavourable policy or programme. If we voted the President in, then we should support him to succeed. If you vote a person in and withdraw your support or even oppose the person, it could be likened to a father who gave his son a bag of salt to carry to somewhere but at the same caused the rain to fall on that child. Meanwhile, that you support the president does not mean you cannot criticise or oppose any of his policies or programmes. But it is wrong and SENSELESS to oppose the president as a person.
Actually, what you are doing can be likened to a father who sends his child to school and the child fails but the father refuses to correct the son because the son is not the only child that failed.

Politics › Re: Thanks To The Multitude Of Sincere Nigerians On NL by AZeD1(m): 5:16pm On Jun 28, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: That is your irrelevant opinion. By the way, do you expect Sincere Nigerians to OPPOSE their president? Is that the RIGHT thing to do?
Sincere Nigerians will oppose their president if its the right thing to do. Supporting the president does not make you a sincere Nigerian.
Politics › Re: Thanks To The Multitude Of Sincere Nigerians On NL by AZeD1(m): 4:58pm On Jun 28, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: If some vultures gather on one side shouting crucify Jonathan, it is only natural for an opposing set of people to gather on another side shouting dont crucify Jonathan. If you call those shouting dont crucify Jonathan 'bottom lickers', what do you call those shouting crucify Jonathan? Remember, if the vultures shouting crucify Jonathan were not there, those shouting dont crucify Jonathan would not have gathered
Well don't call your group Sincere Nigerians because that's an insult to Nigerians who are Sincere. You are a GEJ supporter not a sincere Nigerian.
Politics › Re: Thanks To The Multitude Of Sincere Nigerians On NL by AZeD1(m): 4:27pm On Jun 28, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: But supporting your president is the RIGHT thing to do. That you support your president does not mean you cannot criticise him or his ministers but such criticisms should be SPECIFIC and CONSTRUCTIVE. When the time for elections come, and Jonathan becomes the candidate in PDP or whatever party, then you can oppose him. But now, he is the President of Nigeria, not PDP, and we should all support him.
Differentiate between supporting and ass licking please.... FYI criticism is also a form of support.
Politics › Re: Nigeria Snubs US, Looks On To Build Economic Relations With China And Russia by AZeD1(m): 4:25pm On Jun 28, 2013
Obama is not coming to Nigeria so what?
The best form of marketing is word of mouth and if things were better in Nigeria, investors will come. They don't need Obama or GEJ inviting them.

As for the China/ US relations, the tide is changing: Apple, Google and co have started manufacturing in the US again.
Politics › Re: Thanks To The Multitude Of Sincere Nigerians On NL by AZeD1(m): 4:04pm On Jun 28, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: They support their president, commend him when things are done right and constructively criticise him when things are not done right.
Since when did supporting a president make a person sincere?
I guess the meaning of sincere must have changed.

**Off to buy a new dictionary.

Politics › Re: FCTA To Commission 14 Standard Rail Stations- Daily Trust by AZeD1(m): 10:33am On Jun 24, 2013
naptu2: Background.

Abuja wanted to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games. There was also a rival bid from Glasgow, Scotland. Abuja had a better bid document and even the inspectors said that Abuja's bid was excellent (Nigeria planned to use the same facilities it used for the 2003 All Africa Games). President Obasanjo and General Gowon made a great pitch about using the games to celebrate Nigeria's centenary.

However, there was one problem. Abuja did not have a rail network, while Glasgow did. The inspectors stated that they did not believe that Abuja would be able to cope with the influx of visitors that would come to watch the games, because it did not have a rail system in place. Obasanjo smuggled in a proposed light rail system, but the Commonwealth Games Association were not convinced. Abuja lost the bid.

Government decided to continue with the rail plans and use it to celebrate Nigeria's centenary. However, the project was delayed because the National Assembly complained that it was too expensive. President Jonathan, who, as Vice President was in charge of Nigeria's Commonwealth Games bid, stepped in to resolve the problem and also proposed that there should be a national rail link between Lagos - Abuja - Kaduna, as part of the modernisation programme for the NRC.

The project is now back on course.
Thanks. You are one of the few people who still keep me interested in nairaland.
