babyosisi: And somebody says they should fight
Can one fight on an empty stomach?
What happened when the people of Odi protested the destruction of their land
The JTF moved in and mowed down everything that moved
Same thing repeated somewhere in Benue state
Did Fashola not use thugs to arrest protesters in the past
Who wants to die?
It is better to be dead than to live in some places.

Billyonaire: The Government decides which structures are legal or not legal. Its a question of government decision. If the government is sensitive, she will realize that no one choses poverty over wealth. So the government can either decide to legalize the structures or provide alternatives to cushion their sufferings. We are talking about fellow human beings here with rights to life, I see no reason Government is failing the electorates.
I don't agree with the bold part. To build a house, you need to get the plan approved. There are so many buildings in Lagos without approval and if they were to be demolished today, people will cry foul play.
Like i said, i sympathize with them because i know what its like to not have a place to sleep at night but i also understand that there is no sentiment in governance.
How do you stop people from living in illegal slums if you don't demolish them?
Politics › Re: Fashola Destroys Slums In Lagos, Leaving Thousands Homeless by AZeD1(m): 12:45am On Mar 04, 2013
Billyonaire: You should not champion this demolition of poor people's homes, nobody should. I consider myself a very hardworking fellow but sometimes the expenses triple the cash inflow and you realize that eventualities occur that sends you to bottom and we bounce back based on acumen, its not so for many people who have little or no fiscal cushioning. Those we call the poor may be just victims of circumstances, circumstances like Okada ban, which affected not just the Okada riders but businessmen who took millions of Naira in bank loans to import motorcycles only to be startled by the ban. In such a case you can see a millionaire becomes instantly poor by virtue of unplanned Government policy. That being said, a responsible Government understands that building a great state of Lagos is for the people and not against the people, but when a policy is working against the people that policies should be for, then it becomes a needed observatory for one to question the sanity of Fashola and his team. Government should be for the people and not anti-people. Fashola should provide an alternative for these people. Its sad.
All of shouting about poor people etc are part and parcel of the problems in Nigeria. The question should be "were those structures legal?" if yes they should be compensated and if no at least they have been demolished. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Yes they are poor and don't have anywhere to go but government is not about sentiments. If you feel so sorry for them, invite them to your house.

I sympathize with them but as i have said before, if those structures were illegal then the government has done no wrong.

SELFWORTH: Thank u.

This is the worst thing about Fashola. You destroy other people's homes without care for where they are supposed to go. He goes home to bed but where should these people go?
If they where giving quit notices, then the Governor did the right thing. Nigerians should learn to put sentiments aside. People build houses everyday in Nigeria without proper planning, if they get demolished, everybody says the Government is wicked.

Nigerians should learn to do the right thing.
Lol. How naive. The last person you should believe in a case of an injustice perpetrated by government is an official working for that same government. What did you expect him to say? Listen to the press conference by SERAP instead. Listen to the victims. Then make your judgement.
Meanwhile, I did provide the link for the rest of the story. It was too long to post.
I'm not saying i believe what the commissioner said, i just pointed that you left out the commissioner's side of the story. This is Nigeria, people don't heed to quit notices so the commissioner might be telling the truth and he might be lying.

When reporting, don't leave any side out.
Politics › Re: Fashola Destroys Slums In Lagos, Leaving Thousands Homeless by AZeD1(m): 10:55pm On Mar 03, 2013
OP you just posted half of the information. All those saying quit notices where not given should go and read the whole story. Below is a part of the story which the OP omitted

The Lagos state commissioner for housing, Adedeji Olatubosun Jeje, provided a different version of events.

“It’s a regeneration of a slum,” he said. “We gave enough notification. The government intends to develop 1,008 housing units. What we removed was just shanties. Nobody was even living in those shanties. Maybe we had a couple of squatters living there.”

Where you forced or did you do it willing? If guys like you had decided to be faithful to their partners then none of this would have happened.

Remove the log of wood in your eyes first.

PS I went to camp and i was not promiscuous, i also know guys and girls who went to camp and did not even smooch so please change the title to why are corpers like ME promiscuous.

Kobe all day.
For those saying LBJ can guard all 5 positions, KG could that while he was younger.

IMO LBJ has size on his side while Kobe has "murdered" much bigger opponents.
Kobe has a better post up game than Lebron(for those who claim LBJ is complete), better mentality

Long story short Kobe > LBJ

Angyee: You have just shown your laziness by highlighting what suits you. Why didn't you highlight where I said they are taking advantage of, they are building on. So ultimately it starts from us. I suggest you take reading comprehension lessons before making comments. By the way, you should remember than when you point a finger, three are pointing back at you. And this is where I end my discourse with you. (Answer a fool in his own folly -proverbs)
I did not point out that because only a fool allows himself to be taken advantage of. Why are you blaming the CIA when in a post you say the bolded? I repeat my earlier stance by saying Nigerians should take responsibilities for their action or inaction and quit blaming other people.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Wikileaks: Boko Haram Is A CIA Covert Operation by AZeD1(m): 2:19pm On Mar 01, 2013
Angyee: Because all these countries are United. They did not unite them so cannot divide them. They trust themselves in these countries not forced to trust. We are not blaming outsiders, we are simply pointing out the fact that outsiders are taking advantage of us and we are doing nothing. Until Nigerians wake up and realize that these people are internationally funded and start to work together we are going nowhere. All they are doing is building and increasing our mutual distrust of each other as Nigerians. By the way a Brazil in order and a Nigeria in order, who do you think poses more of a threat? A house divided against itself cannot stand...this my friends is what the US is counting on and funding.
Nigerians are mentally lazy and you are also exhibiting that mental laziness. It is that mental laziness that is asking the question " By the way a Brazil in order and a Nigeria in order, who do you think poses more of a threat?".
If Nigerians were that smart, our house will be in order. Nigerians are the one dividing Nigeria not an outside.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Wikileaks: Boko Haram Is A CIA Covert Operation by AZeD1(m): 1:55pm On Mar 01, 2013
From blaming witches in the village, to blaming the devil and now the CIA. Nigerians never seize to amaze.
Malaysia, is one of the largest exporters of palm oil, they got their seedlings from Nigeria yet we don't even export; is the CIA also responsible for that?
Is the CIA responsible for the looting of our public wealth by government officials?

Nigerians stop blaming others for your problem and take responsibilities for your action or inaction. Countries like Brazil, Turkey, Singapore, India, Qatar are putting their houses in order, Nigerians are busy blaming someone else.

I don't care how many roads they are building or railway tracks they are laying, all i care is my street is tarred or not, if the bulb in my light comes on or not and i'm pretty sure iya Basira, mama Chukwudi, baba Saliu, papa Emeka don't also care.
I don't want to feel governments in newspapers or tv screens, i want to see with my own eyes and i want it to affect my life. Every other thing is propaganda and a waste of money.

taharqa: Exactly.

These people have always said that the FG have NOT DONE ANYTHING in their states and in the country generally; some of us have always disagreed. the NGGT is a GOOD chance to find out who is lying. Why are some people then afraid to allow all of us find out??

I wrote this comment to one of them yterday, who said that the FG had done 'NOTHING' in Lagos state in the last 2 years or thereabout:

Do I need to tell you that am still expectng a response from him??

Like I have ALWAYS said here: PROPAGANDA and Lies always fails, eventually.
70 % of the things you put up there, you know? So do you need the GGT to come and tell you what you already know? Just admit the GGT is a jamboree and waste of scarce resources.

thelastPope: Fashola agreed to fuel subsidy removal and turned around and betrayed the agreement
Fashola agreed to a removal in April not January, so who back stabbed who? Funny how you never complained about GEJ betraying Nigerians by removing subsidy in January instead of April

thelastPope: Fashola used okada during his governorship campaign and turned on them after he became governor
All governors used okada to campaign and most have banned okada's in their states, why are you only concerned about Lagos?

thelastPope: Fashola had an agreement with doctors before the election and reneged after the election and went ahead and fired all 788 of them when they protested
What was the agreement with Doctors and as at last count, they where all re instated so whats your point?

thelastPope tells Nigerians Patience Jonathan is resting in Nigeria then Patience turns around and tells Nigerians the truth, the lastPope refuses to apologise for his deciet. Tells a lot about thelastPope's character.

Elueme: You are the most daft reterdeem I have seen on nairaland. You ought to discuss issues rather than resort to insults and aggressiveness. Are you angry that the hypocrisy of your benefactors are being exposed? Nigerians will soon know who they are just as the Nigerian Union of Journalists have just discovered that they have been holding briefs for wolves in sheep clothings.
Oga lets, discuss issues
1)Do i need Maku to tell me if there is light in my house?
2)Do i need Maku to tell me if my street road is tarred?
3)Do i need Maku to tell me the security situation in my area?
4)Do i need Maku to tell me if the hospital in my area is good?
5)Do i need Maku to tell me the state of public schools and facilities in my Area?
6)Do i need Maku to tell me how much i buy fuel?

If your answers are No then please tell me w.t.f is the purpose of the GGT? I'd rather support a leader who backs out from a bad deal than one who supports it.

Enoquin: In my opinion, I see nothing beneficial in Maku's governance tour. When he goes to a state, he is a guest of the governor of that state and so is duty bound to promote the state...there is no state that is perfect...yet, all I read are how the government of this state is doing this and that...of a truth, a working governor's project will always be visible...can you close your eyes to good roads, water or other governmental projects?
The tour is just a way to spend money...it is most often going to be biased anyway. A better way at show-casing a working or not government will be to send in people anonymously...who will give their reports with evidence like pictures and audios...so, it doesn't seem as if any governor is being witch hunted...
Babe can i buy you lunch for this your wonderful comment?

karl max: u mean his own propoganda media house and buttlickers weather he likes it or not NGGT is coming to lagos! Maku is coming to show nigerians the FG projects in lagos just like he did in EDO state without the governor.some people are tired of hearing and reading the propoganda from journalists of the STATE controlled media.
Thats the problem with people like you, you judge on what you hear while some of us who oppose the GGT judge by what we see. On the thread about Fashola not supporting the GGT, Fashola talked about Ibeshe road in Ikorodu and i've seen that road with my own eyes. Fashola also talked about a road at Oko-Oba(not really sure about the location) and a poster "romanlaw" said the road has been abandoned since last year.
We don't need Maku spending money to tell us what we can see with our own eyes.

manny4life: Fashola is a two-sided man, this won't be the first he has changed his mouth on national matters. This is what's expected from him, not surprised at all.
Need I say more at the bold
Just because other governors supported the GGT doesn't mean Fashola supported it. The GGT is a jamboree. I don't need Maku to tell me if there is light in my house or if my street is tarred.
If Maku wants to do a GGT, he should start by telling us why Patience Jonathan was flown to Germany for treatment when her husband is president and there is provision for the ministry of health in the Nigerian budget. Charity should start from Aso-rock.

tomakint: You keep repeating "I" as if governance in Nigeria starts at your desk and ends there, if you don't need to be told what the states are doing then what happens to the millions out there who may not be as privileged as you? undecided
Geez do i spell everything out for you? I said i saw the Ibeshe road Fashola talked about which means the people who live around that area(those that it affects the most) don't need Maku to tell them what is happening in their back yard.
You talk about what happens to the millions out there who may not be as privileged as you? The so called people you talk about don't have light to watch the waste of funds you call GGT, I'm pretty sure the woman who sells "boli" at Igando is not interested in what Maku is doing in Ebonyi state so please tell me which less privileged people you are talking about because the ones i know, who are struggling every day to survive are not interested and Maku and co are pissing away funds that could be used to send enough children to school.

The common man does not care how many watts are generated, all he wants to see is light in his house. Providing amenities is the best GGT ever, anything short of that is waste of funds.

I said it on the Oshimole thread and i will say it again, the good governance tour is a waste of public funds. I used to live in Ikorodu and i saw the Ibeshe road Fashola talked about, i don't need Maku to tell me that. Someone on this forum has said, the Oko-Oba road has been abandoned since last year, i also don't need Maku to tell me that. Romanlaw has given us a report without spending "our collective" wealth.
