The whole thing is very frustrating. Recently landed a band 6 job in an acute NHS trust. Requested for sponsorship and HR confirmed I would be sponsored, but near my PSW expiry. I've written plenty emails, with lots of evidence, telling them it best to issue the COS now because the salary would be about 2k short of the new threshold come April 2024, but they wouldn't reconsider.
It's things like this that pushes people to care work and makes COS sales business very attractive.

Thank you so much after a month and few weeks of waiting I finally got my decision yesterday. So technical issue does not mean that your CoS has issue it's a generic message to buy time from the standard time set by the HO.
Congratulations

Good morning and happy New Year everyone in the house, I believe we are all doing well and enjoying our new year.

Please allow me to be the first Nairalander to ask question in 2024 here.

I got this email from UKVI, three people applied on the same day from my office, less than three day one of us got his decision while the remaining two got the email below.

Please can someone explain what "Technical issue" could mean in this context? I can't sleep

Dear

Ref:

Thank you for your application for permission to stay in the UK.

Although we would normally decide your application within 15 working days from the date it was submitted, unfortunately this is not going to be possible in your case.

The reason for this is that we are currently experiencing a technical issue relating to your case. We do consider the resolution of this technical issue as a matter of the highest priority and although we are unable to offer a specific resolution timescale, we aim to make a decision on your application as soon as possible.

I am sorry for the delay in dealing with your application and for the inconvenience this is causing.

Please be assured that we are doing all we can to make a decision on your case as quickly as possible. Please note, it may not be possible to make a decision within service standard in this instance.

Kind Regards,

UK Decision Making Centre
You have nothing to worry about. I got the same email and spoke to an immigration lawyer who advised that it's a generic email UKVI send when they are running late processing applications.

Interesting days ahead.
There will still be loopholes if this is implemented. For an instance how will they deal with students that contract their project and other forms of assessments out? This might work though if Universities would make admission academic (not financial) requirements strigent than what they are now. To me it doesn't make sense for someone who did Marketing in their undergraduate coming to the UK to study Cybersecurity. And most Universities allow this.

Allowing students to stay after attending certain universities is also not sensible IMO. On the outside, it creates a disparity along quality line which will greatly demarket UK unis abi what criteria will they use for the segregation?

people feel it's a waste of time applying for psw cos it leads to nowhere, nobody likes uncertainty, if the UK immigration policies are straightforward it will be easy for people to make more well-informed decisions, the only straightforward thing now is care cos it leads to their desired settlement. That is why the smarter ones are looking to other countries not because the UK is not even better than those countries but because nobody wants to mortgage his future for any uncertainty. It looks like a gamble for many especially with families applying for psw with the heavy cost to it while with care they just pay the visa fee and are exempted from ihs fees. Only those with a strong desire to remain in their field will try the psw route first and see what happens and they are very few. Th Uk does not need to make these things hard like this and still complain of over 1 million vacancies not filled.
Post study is never a waste of time. One of the challenges our people have is their inability to delay gratification. Our people don't want to sow today to reap a better tomorrow. I finished my Msc in January and opted for post study. Meanwhile I got a job with a trust who was not going to sponsor and won't still allow me to start till I get my post study. It was a band 3 role but I went for it. Paid £8k plus for the whole family and started the job. Few friends who heard I opted for post study abused hell out of me since I could have used the money to buy COS. To sha cut the story short, got a higher band for the same role with another trust who sponsored. Few weeks back, we applied and received £1600 plus as IHS refund, part of the post study ihs and part of dependants ihs. So you see, there are numerous opportunities in this country such that one doesn't need to cut corners. People just need to define and stick to what they want.

Good afternoon, everyone.

Just looking for some experienced insight with inviting a home-maker and petty trader mum to the UK.

I and my partner will be fully funding her visit, hence, we are thinking of not stating she's a petty trader so as not to raise dust around account statement and business docs, as she's got none.

We're currently completing the visa application and stated that she has #1 savings and plans to spend #1 in the UK as we'll be taking care of everything. I think she has about 100K in her account. Previously monthly up-keep had been sent to her husband until last month.

Q1: Should we state she's a petty trader and submit her personal bank statement or just be mute on the trader aspect?

Q2: We want her to spend five months and some days before leaving, is it okay to state that in app as well?

Thanks!
You don't need to submit her bank statement. Just put it in your letter that you are sponsoring her trip and her living cost in the UK. It's okay to mention she's a petty trader however this doesn't prove that she has a strong tie back home. So you need to proof that she has strong ties and would return home before or at the expiration of her visa.

Anyone who comes here, sees how the system works, then plan accordingly.

Rent money is no dead money. No one comes here and sees there’s possibility of mortgage, then decides to pay rent for 10/20 years.

“Rent money is dead money”

Make them kukuma go sleep for under bridge na?

I’ll always say this, everyone comes in with their own peculiar situation(financially).

In due time, everybody gets and enjoys what every other person gets in this country.

No pressure yourself ✌️, pay your rent, enjoy your house, enjoy your life.

Well said!

You could start with getting the CISSP and seeing if you could land a role with a US company that will complete the visa process for you. It could also be useful in the UK/EU

Quite insightful and I agree with you that there are restrictions on the skilled worker visa and on the remuneration too. Good thing you are in IT and specifically cyber, my suggestions here would be to carry out a research on the job roles (and its requirements) you are targeting in the US then work to close any knowledge gap you might have. You should also explore remote work with US companies first and from there you can conveniently start looking for a permanent move. Canada also have the work stream for the PR thingy you can also try that. Thanks for sharing.

Canada is never in my plan and can't even be. May be for a visit but to reside, no way! My post here was to find out if the US has something similar to skilled worker visa that can be explored. Like you suggested, will do a little research and hopefully will get necessary information. Thank you sis.

I know this is personal, but mind sharing reasons why you want to leave the UK for the US? This might also help guide your choice of state in the US to go to. Mind you one suggestion of state might not fit your bill in terms of chosen profession.

Thanks dear. The UK has a lot of restrictions on whatever kind of visa you have. On skilled worker visa however can't do more than 20 hours on a second job. Then heard IT guys are more rewarded in the US than here. By the way, I'm in cyber.

Like i asked you before if i get removed today then what? I can't post or pay my mortgage?

Contact the admin to start the campaign or start a thread in this section to gather support. I promise never to remove it, delete a single post or ban anybody.

Do that and have peace for once.
Whether you get paid or otherwise is not my concern. My concern is, just like in Nigeria, having a square peg in a round hole.

So what if i get replaced? Do i get paid? Do i make a penny here as a mod? For years you have been crying about me being a mod here and i still can't figure out why it pains you so much.

Start the campaign to remove me as far too many people have done before then apply to become a mod.

You can as well resign since you are not being paid. Worthy to note that I'm not the only one who found you unfit for this role.
