Finished Monogatari 2nd season

I never imagined I'd end up liking a character like Kaiki Deishu but I did.
He's the biggest conman in the show and he claims no one exists in the world that he can't deceive

I actually felt sad when he died after accomplishing his goal. His narration of events from convincing a god to turn back to a human...to his death was great

Then I googled his death and found out he actually survived but fôoled the audience into believing he died. His entire death monologue was a lie to deceive the audience.
That later on in the story he was discovered to be alive from another characters POV

Apparently there's really no one he can't decieve

I believe most people didn't get past the halfway point.

The first half of the movie was intentionally bad. If not for the plot twist I was expecting, I would have dumped the movie then...

Watching this movie, I can see why some rated it very low and some others felt it was okay.

I think most of the people who gave this movie like 2/10 didn't get past the 40 minutes mark.

The first 40-50 minutes or so felt like the worst movie I'd seen in 2023...
I knew there had to be a twist, cos the movie couldn't be that bad...

I had several ideas for the twist including the Rourke being the bad guy or that Lev Dellrayne didn't exist...etc

I hoped the twist would somehow explain the bad writing decisions and make everything make sense

The twist came and everything did make sense


However this movie still suffers from an execution problem. The idea isn't bad, but the execution had problems. A lot of the plot points were set up earlier...a lot was foreshadowed but when it came to the execution, it wasn't done well

A major plot issue here is how hypnotics powers work. I believe it was said that they manipulate through the brain...i.e make people see a different version of reality.
For some weird reason this hypnosis seems to work on someone miles away even before they were in any close proximity. For example the division agents were under the hypnosis of Rourke's daughter right from miles away in Helicopters even without them being anywhere near contact.
It's even likely that she hadn't met many of them ever in her life, yet they were already under her hypnosis.
Things like this break the entire rules and power system set up previously


For the twist, while the twist could be said to be good, everything that came after was badly executed and mostly predictable. The plan of Rourke had many holes in it...same as that of the division
E.g Rourke being allowed by the Division to take his daughter away. For someone they were grooming that way with so much plans, there was no reason to let her out of their sights. Anything could happen, her parents could hide her, she could be involved in a random accident, a third party with spies in the division could take her etc

It makes no sense that an agency like that with their high tech didn't have a decryption AI to decrypt a code like Lev Dellrayne being very similar to the name of a street?
That they somehow had no info about his past that he lived with surrogate parents for many years?

Rourke's plan to lure every division agent out to kill them was laughable


He somehow bet that an entire agency would send every single agent out to get him? And they wouldn't have any more agents at their base?
If he killed the ones that came, shouldn't they have more to send after him?

He somehow bet that they wouldn't snipe him out of their helicopter or car? But instead all would come out in the open like idiôts against a hypnotic?

The after-credits scene didn't even make any sense. The division leader foôled Rourke, his wife and his daughter (the strongest hypnotic alive) easily.
Then why did they need the daughter in the first place

The division had hypnotics on their teams but couldn't use another two to breed and form another child as a backup plan?

I watched season 1 and 2 back to back. Waited with bated breathe for s3 and was disappointed beyond belief.

I thought it was over. Well if s4 comes out I hope it's good.

And hopefully they kill off that useless Vanya Hargreaves. The character is so annoying that I wonder why the rest of the cast haven't killed her yet.

To make things worse, the actress transitioned genders and the writers changed her name in the show to Viktor... something that I believe wasn't even present in the comics


But knowing woke Hollywood, they won't want to kill off the Woke character in the show

AOT really boasts at least two of some of the best plot twists in fiction

I recall it also had one of the best plot twists in fiction. Till date I haven't seen the movie even though I read the book over 10 years ago

Good thing I didn’t read the review before watching, I might have had doubts.

I liked it , and wished it was longer, to explain how the human world was, before the merge , it only showed the elf world and the creation of monsters.

Seasons 1 and 2 were enjoyable...not a masterpiece but a great watch

Season 3 was utterly terrible...but it was mostly because of the COVID that it had production issues

anime are usually hand drawn...

Unlike Hollywood that uses CGI for most animation, Japanese studios prefer hand drawn animation...

Plus they air on japanese TV with slot times...
That is why anime are 20+ minutes with time for ads in between when airing on TV

And it helps the anime market...since it's just 20mins, they are so accessible...

For example, I'm currently following about 10 anime shows this season alone and they're easy to follow weekly since it's just 20mins of my time...

On the other hand, the only TV show I'm following right now is SILO...
1 hour is not easy at all...unless the show is very very good and worth it

It also helps that most anime have faster pacing that most TV shows...Vinland Saga's pacing is similar to most TV shows...but since it's just 20 minutes you'll feel the pace is very slow...

I believe the one you are talking about in LSR is called rotoscoping animation, same used in "Undone, i totally hate the style btw.

I'm familiar with them...
Ive seen the trailer of the latest Spiderverse movie too...
So I know the animation style used...
My question was more about quality
Rotoscope mostly works for realistic movement...
I can't remember if LDR used Rotoscope...
Probably did since not just the animation was realistic, the movements were also realistic if I recall


I personally prefer 2D animation with a blend of Rotoscope for particular scenes...MAPPA does that sometimes

I'll check out the spiderverse movies...
Haven't seen them all these while cos I wasn't sure if it was my thing

third I'm currently seeing Hunter x Hunter .you use juju make everybody watch Attack on Titan

Hunter X Hunter is a masterpiece....
Especially the Chimera Ant arc...
The arc starts slow but it's so worth it

I no use juju...I just hyped Attack on Titan cos it's my favorite show of all time...
And it's worth the hype


The reason you're feeling this way about Vinland Saga is cos it's the first anime you're following weekly...
If you followed AOT weekly like me for 10 years, you'll be used to these cliffhangers

Better animation style, direction than arcane but on par quality. I can't really compare with L,S and R because they used diverse animation style in that.

I was actually referring to the very realistic styles used in some episodes in LSR where some people found it difficult to differentiate between animation and live action
