Bro, it is a family thing. My dad played football but not as a professional. My uncle did well too. My two brothers are exceptional until the same system choked up. I play good football, no doubt.
The civilized world teach their kids football. We are born with it here and only need small teachings and the rest is history.
I don't want my son to be an academic giant. He, and if more than one, will play professional football.
Okay, you are making sense, so let me engage you further..

It takes 2 people to donate genes to a child or children..See this plausible perspective -- What happens if your wife's genes are weakly athletic and strongly academic and her genes dominate yours in all of your male children, so that your male kids only have strong academic prowess that would make them become intellectual giants but weak or at best average sporting skills that make them be unfit for world class level football? Would you still push them to play football alone, knowing or suspecting that they are unlikely to make it to the level of football that you are imagining? I believe you know these are different scenarios that are plausible, we are not saying your kids can't make world class level.

I await your answer again....

And no, I do not agree that the civilized world teach their kids football. You are looking at the civilized world from a very restricted perspective, to be frank with you. I know it's your passion for football that is biasing your views ---and we all can be prone to this. Although I agree that there are more soccer/football fans in the world than any other individual sport..

This your argument about football running in a family, I had it too. I was not a bad defender and goalkeeper in my days, between 14-20, my elder brother was a very nice midfielder and our eldest brother was one of the best football enthusiasts that can be found around, active in football analysis since 1990 or 1986...Although it will gladden my heart if my kids play football and get to the highest levels, but even with all these, I still give room for the possibility that the kids may be better at academics than in football. The world is not straight. I know very many talented footballers in the area I grew up who focused on football and disregarded other things. Many of them eventually ruined themselves unfortunately because football did not work for them. The same story I hear and read about happening in the UK. Open-mindedness is important and that is what I have learnt to do in this issue.. There is something else I want to say about man city, but let me read your response first.

Haha, you can bend the discussion the way it suits you, and suit yourself and your argument in the process. After all, it's your view. Bask in the Euphoria. We will be here laughing at whatever is funny about it.

I don't see anything less 'classic' in Oga Kanu. Anyway, people have different views which must be respected.. You don't have to agree with his style anyway, no be by must. But people have different moral compasses. He owes no one an apology for his style. In my eyes, he does not look obnoxious..Very fit man indeed.

Great man that has taken on lots of responsibilities as you have stated.

If there is no scandal create one for ur self ...Nigerians
In fact, I am really amazed...Social media has the potential to doom many people, even if it has its advantages too. May God help us.

Imagine people taking pleasure to read and perhaps rejoice at other people's scandal. When I first heard and thought that if one is succeeding, some others are looking to read or see bad things happen to the person, I thought it was a joke. But it's real and we all have the potential to be this gory, not only that poster, so we need to be careful;l with the thoughts we allow into our minds.

Anyway sha, this your post is a reminder that we all have scandals and thankfully, some of us are already taking steps to right the wrongs and improve on any weaknesses and scandals we have in our lives.

.Mama died fulfilled. May she continue to rest in peace.

Meanwhile, Papillo, the big shoes you and JayJay left behind are too big for these boys to fit in, even as they have continued to deny some of us the chance to play professional football.

I have since moved on. I don go scul. Msc in view. I write stories. I have written unpublished novels. I have moved on to pursue other dreams.

But, my sons MUST play football!!
What happens if God purposely makes your sons academic geniuses of oxford, harvard, cambridge standards but average footballers, would you still force them to play footballer? Let's hear your answers...

All these my sons and daughters must do A and B were the mistakes some of our parents made that landed some people in our generation in the big mess they are today. In our days, it was - my son must go school and get big grades and do nothing else, even if the son obviously has other talents like sports etc...In our generation, it is that my son must play football, daughter must be serena williams, etc, even if the son or daughter is exceptionally intelligent and will do much better by actually reaching their best academic potentials..

We have to be careful so that we don't unknowingly make the mistakes of the previous generation in the opposite sense.

Guy unclephilio123:, this your story is interesting to me.

Do you have a year book for your set, with all the students' names and contacts. I believe you, but it would be nice to confirm that someone actually copied their way to a distinction, the almighty distinction, without being found out.WOOOWW.

Bro,u may nt understand my plight........I meant d lady in Quote never merited d grade...If I may ask u,don't you knw ur coursemates who are sound? She's d type dat copied during tests and exams period and thereafter proceeded to those lecturers and had her ways.
Talking abt mentioning the names,I intentionally did that,so EFCC,Dss and d likes could trail them, and do d necessary investigations abt them.
It is only in Auchipoly,School of Business study,Accountancy dept that u wil hear that 'A' and 'B'letter grade had finished before the commencement and pasting of exam's timestable is out,cos the grades had been bought by some oloshos and runs galz. This is very discouraging for eligible and diligent students. How I wish any Polyt can testify to this?
Abt my spellings and grammartical errors, remember I'm nt a computer, even computer do make mistakes
Iree ooooooo
Hmmm, I am somewhat interested in this your story. You mean, she copied in all her courses to have been able to make a distinction? You mean no one lecturer of integrity at the department of acc at Auchi? You mean examination invigilation is so porous that students are allowed to form Voltron and do whatever they want in the examination hall? Then on your account, a sane thing to be done is to completely close down Auchi poly's acc dept because it is not fit to be called a department. This conclusion is drawn based on your account.

I am a living witness of what traspired back then in d institution(Auchi poly)I graduated frm the institution exactly 10 years ago from the Department of Accountancy whch is d worst and most corupt deptment of the said institution.Despite my brilancy and all sorts,I graduated with poor grade all in the name that I didn't have money to block(bribe)those jetsam set of people called themselves lecturers whom their generations wil surely be doomed.
I could recollect vividly well that the gal that had d best result(grade)in my set, could nt even spelt her name.A distinction student who could stil omit a letter from her name. The lady was called BLESSING,but she could nt spell the name right,She did write it as BLESING instead. She had distinction with dat porous brain of hers.
Eventually, those who were sound and had no money is No NO for them. The damaged caused by those lecturers in my life, could nt be solved til date in my certificate.Though I have moved on despite that, but I do pray ill prayers for the list lecturers til this morning nt knowing that a thread like is already on fp.They include,Mr Edegbai,Igbinosun,UncleP,Alkalumeh,Eihkoya,Uncle T,Mr friday to mention bt few,but I cannot bt mention some good one among them, the likes off MR Asemota, the two brothers and daddy in d dept.
Note:I cannot forget bt to mention Mr Awiraleh,d most blockable lecturer in Auchi poly,U can block him with even 500naira.
All of them wil reap all they sown.
I am not discrediting your experience and really empathize with you, but to cast aspersion at her distinction, I think it's only fair to state that she was really poor in the field where she made the distinction. Name spelling and first class/distinction in accounting have little correlation, although it is bad for a distinction candidate to be poor at spelling, more so his/her name, but not being able to spell properly in a course like accounting has little or causation with making or not making a distinction.

The issue many people have always had with some accounting students, including the excellent ones, and also some mathematics students, is their inability to write, spell or speak well...But that does not stop them from being excellent in their main courses. I have seen so many examples in this life, and I have been around for a while.

Again, I empathize with you. It's bad to fail good students who do not have money to bribe. Thank God, that's about stopping at Auchi Poly. Unfortunately, it is the brave people like you that have been made to pay the price years ago.

We both know that lecturers do not award more than C grade to their student girlfriends. some lecturers don't even give marks to the students they sleep with. Some lecturers will even continue to fail the girls they sleep with so that they ll not graduate in record time and therefore continue to sleep with them . However, some ladies sleep with their lecturers for the fun of it and not necessarily because of marks. There' no way a Lady can sleep her way to make first-class without being brilliant. I wonder how she ll graduate with first class with C grades and a lot of carryovers......
It amazes me how certain people try to rubbish a first class, what? First class that is an impressive undergraduate achievement anywhere in the world!! I agree that the number of first class has increased, but that does not warrant some people to try and rubbish the achievements of people who have it, ladies in particular as per this convo. If I had not tried hard but couldn't get it, perhaps I might belong to the camp of those who just say anything about about first class degrees..But I, and am sure many others, know how challenging it is to make such a degree, and such achievement must never be rubbished.

All the first class people I know, including ladies, are very sound and good at their crafts. In fact, I respect them.

By the way, if you know any lady or guy with a first class and who hopes to get into a school like Cambridge, Oxford or Princeton, please have the, email me...Something can work, though no guarantees..The person must have things like certificate, transcript and references ready!

Please learn to respect the achievements of a first class made by ladies. I am writing this because 1) I believe you are smart and 2) I wonder how you came to the conclusion that most of them can't defend their first class degrees. Are you kidding me? If you would not resort to name calling, and if you can intelligently show me an objective study to back your 'most of them cannot defend their class, I will believe you. Otherwise, please be careful how you talk. The first class ladies I know, even 2:1, they are all very, very, very sound..

lol...actually the word of God is a guideline to living a "righteous" life. Not some "this is how your life should be" guidelines that our parents think.
Caring for your kids as a pastor is more than just the word of God... It also takes you exposing them to the World and let them show you who they truly are. It's a shame most of these pastor's kids are not even bold enough to talk to their parents about their sexual life because they feel "daddy will call me a child of the devil"
Sexual life as in 'Daddy, I have these urges how can I deal with it or daddy, yesterday I fornicated'? Let's be clear on the type of sexual life. The Bible makes it clear, how on earth a pastor wouldn't want his son or daughter to tow the Biblical path.

a typical Nigerian pastor will never allow his/her kids "explore the world" they rather keep them indoors and command them to study the word of God (thinking they are doing them good).
Then when these kids get admitted into a university they see things Grey

Nothing like the words “My father is a pastor” to scare off a potential boyfriend, For some reason, hearing these words can make anybody want to turn the other way and run....Why? I’m still not 100% sure, lol Maybe they think God is watching our relationship even closer than most, but either way, this is one big bomb to drop on a relationship, and it gets even scarier when your potential boyfriend actually meets your parent … especially if they meet them on a Sunday.... Come and hear preaching grin

my dad's is a pastor all this i experienced while growing up
If the guy remains scared, his intentions are questionable. If some of us find a pastor's daughter that is great and genuine, nothing stops something serious from happening. Abi wetin beta pass well-trained pikin with fear of God and solid spiritual backing? Although I agree that the warfare against a pastor and his household can be tough. Everyone has to be for God, otherwise e fit no end well.

To all aspiring test takers, applicants and graduate students, I just want to encourage you that if you set your mind to do anything, be determined enough to persevere in-spite of the disappointments you may encounter in the process of striving towards your goal.
I will write in detail in my next post; I have to do that to give back as I have received. If you are reading this right now, the first thing you have to overcome is fear. Fear you might not pass the GRE, fear you might not get the Visa; replace that with faith. Believe you can do it, understand how things work i.e the exam, the visa interview and then prepare yourself. I had a 2.2, 304 on the gre and still got accepted into LSU for MSc Petroleum. I know Graduate admission is competitive; when you have honestly gone as far as your effort can take you, have faith in God.
Hope this helps some one out there. I give God the praise, shortly I'll share the rest.
Guy, nice one, uplifting testimony, praise God.

Is this a funded MSc? And does LSU mean Louisiana State Uni? If yes, then congrats again. Louisiana has a good record for oil company placement whenever the oil industry is good.

Nice to have a platform like this were one can seek career guidance.

Please, i am a graduate of Industrial Chemistry. I want to ask if i should go for PgD in Chemical and then follow it up with a M.Eng/M.Sc in engineering or go directly for a MSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry (considering that i am in 27years of age; though my heart favours Chemical Engineering)

I don't know what to do.

Thank you
Will pharmaceutical chemistry make you a hospital pharmacist or something similar? If yes, I would go for it. Glut of chemical engineers with very few opportunities. However, if you want to eventually become a lecturer and don't give a hoot about working elsewhere, then do the one you prefer between the two. But note that nowadays you will need a PhD to be able to compete in getting lecturing jobs.
