The spambot is yet to resume from strike abi? ![]() |
There has to be some sort of check for the number of aides and advisers that the president can have. Does the president create these positions without say approval from the national assembly? |
^Where exactly is this budget for? State house? I ask cos I havemt checked out the link. . . |
jmaine:What are you really suggesting? |
It is a good thing. We use those names which are suppose to be sacred in every possible and impossible situation and in the process trivialize them. |
This report is incorrect. The protests will be suspended for two days -saturday and Sunday but the strike still holds. Watched this announcement on TV. |
Another pointless e-fight here. |
Unfortunately the losses incurred will be felt more directly by the poor Nigerians on the streets than government big wigs. |
You should also tell buyers that the games are fairly used too, no? They look preowned. |
Beaf:GEJ paid his dues?! What exactly are his dues? Are we to count the excesses of govt (which is part of the issue under discussion here as his dues or what?) Or is it in letting known corrupt individuals get away with their misdeeds or even rewarding them with government/political positions? That is the kind of talk that the unthinking will accept. The way GEJ has gone about this subsidy removal it becomes clear that he considers it to be the silver bullet to solve all our problems and for that reason I am curious to see the outcome. But as I stated earlier a quick look at our history will suggest that this is a move that will fail; corruption and inefficiency remain in full swing, govt is unwilling to make any sacrifices on itself. |
Beaf:GEJ has not shown any signs that he is seriously committed to dealing with corruption! His govt continues in the same path of extravagance and waste which his predecessors have been accused of. All we have heard are promises of change and transformation while the situation worsens. That alone counts as a fail. . . Now we are told to give him 6 months. I for one would personally want to wait for 6 months to see what changes this subsidy removal will bring and how the lives of ordinary Nigerians will improve,[b] if at all, but then we can all recall the lofty aims with which organizations like the NDDC were set up and measure that against the so called progress they have achieved. |
And if the lifestyle of government officials and the politicians is any measure of reality, government remains the most profitable business in the country today. No wonder he jumped ship. ![]() |
texazzpete:Quote of the day for me. TP just made my day, while driving home some real truths. |
Bliss4Lyfe:I'm sure you are fully aware that what you have said there is rife with wishful thinking. What kind of demands are we all going to make for infrastructure that haven't been made before? The subsidy continuing forever is not good but outright removal is even more harmful. What we should demand now is the reversal of this insensitive policy! |
The Government is outraged by the cost of the subsidy, but not by the corruption responsible, Crushing Nigerians underfoot by more than doubling the cost of living, on a New Year’s Day, in a land already gripped by mass suffering, is not the kind of transformation we’ve been waiting for.Very well said. It amazes me that proponents of the petrol subsidy removal as it is done now, have blinded themselves to this critical consequence. |
First of all The Economist have gotten their facts wrong. The fuel subsidy had never cost the government $7 billion until last year when GEJ ran for elections. This development alone begs the question as to what exactly did govt do to incur such an outrageous cost. The Economist will do well to write a well researched article to inform themselves and foreigners about the real issues at stake here and not and rehash views that a dishonest Nigerian govt would have everyone believe. ![]() |
11 January eh? I'm so ready now. I hope they won't back down at the last minute. |
Jonathan is unfazed. Apparently the dude has received enough assurances from his Special Assistant on spiritual affairs. ![]() https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s320x320/375272_345877692104426_100000465934814_1500161_1557049799_n.jpg |
Nice thread. Lets see how Labor responds to this hike in fuel price tomorrow. I'm ready to down my tools already. ![]() |
Katsumoto:May many more blessings come your way for speaking the truth as it is. |
Where are the protesters? |
Congratulations Tboy1. Where is the award party taking place? |
More like Nigeria belongs to Ares the god war what with all these killings. |
Security summit is just political speak for "we have run out of ideas and are willing to try anything now". An understandable dilemma, I must admit. In other words all that talk we heard from the govt about BH becoming a "thing of the past" was just hogwash. |
Your's sincerely hasn't received his gift yet but is curious to know what other Nlanders got for Christmas. Do tell what your surprise was. Cheers |
Happy Holidays to all the tea lovers out there. ![]() |
Madala is in Niger State not Abuja. Tragic all the same |
Enough of this Cabal nonsense. GEJ is the author of this rubbish because his government has helped strengthened if not create an opportunity for unwholesome business practices in the oil industry. If there is a cabal how come he refuses to mention them? Cabal cabal cabal cabal yet nothing is done to directly deal with them. Either they don't exist or GEJ is complicit in the matter. And of course Nigerians with a weakness for overreaching imaginations will buy his theory hook line and sinker. |
Celebrations Imminent! Metal 0-4 You are advised to stand down and cease all hostilities for today. Repeat do not engage any hostiles. It's Christmas, hunker down and make the most of this special day. Over Merry Christmas to all MW3 fans on NL, heck Merry Christmas to everyone. Have a blast! ![]() |
