Hello house. Good morning. Pls I need some clarification. Was encouraged at my hospital to apply for the hospital financial assistance programme for self pay and they claim it has notin to do with insurance whatsoever. Can someone confirm this and do u think its safe?
For some reason people have mixed up insurance and financial aid up together... you can have insurance from your job (HMO) or you can pay for insurance by yourself but that's a monthly thing (eg Bupa etc)

When you say financial assistance in the hospital you're going down the route of medicaid, government assistance etc. You need to let them know you're not a resident and you would like a discount since you're paying cash and you're uninsured. Anything apart from that is for Us residents or citizens.

All the best.

Why spend $20,000 on just giving birth, when that can be saved up and secured for your child's future. University perhaps?
What university if I may ask? What is $20000.? Equivalent of 3 million Naira or there about... Please calculate school fees for international students and get back....

Exactly what my sister did.... they had even brought out handcuffs and all. She asked for a doctor before she got on any flight and no doctor in their right mind will send you back at that stage... They don't want to be sued either. She said they kept asking if she was a lawyer.
However there's still hope. It's just painful.

quote author=drafrican post=30686664An immigration lawyer is an expert on immigrant and emigrant related cases .
Secondly you had the right to ask for a lawyer to explain your rights to you at the POE before deportation, which is provided for in every country,They won't refuse or they would have breached protocol.
Thirdly you had the right to ask that your interview be recorded for legal purposes.
Your fit to fly covers a journey of a maximum of 24 hours and not longer so you could have asked for another certification as your fit to fly is invalid and because you are pregnant you are at risk of thromboembolism.
You could also have said you are feeling reduced fetal movement at which point you can't be deported because a doctor must certify your baby was not in danger, reduced fetal movement at any gestational age over 34 weeks will qualify you for an emergency c/section or at least a 3 day monitoring of you and your baby in a hospital by which time esparati would have replied.
This is not to blame you but to enlighten everyone about their rights.
Before she jails you, you have the right to a lawyer and it was a threat cos everything was an allegation no proof.
But with our right being abused everyday in Nigeria we don't know what our rights are.
Heard that Uber mobile is the cheapest. $19 per month for 1000 minutes nationwide, and unlimited texts. Google them.

Much better deal... What about data?

Hello guys. Pls what is the cheapest phone network provider to use in the US especially Houston .the last time I was there I spent like $100 bi weekly on a TMobile line where I was charged to make n receive calls now m hoping for a mobile plan with Data n all . Will appreciate advice.
T mobile is the cheapest. You need to get the prepaid plan I pay 45 dollars a month unlimited calls & text and 2 gb data which I hardly use at home unless I'm out.
Just walk into any TMobile and ask for their prepaid plans they have up to $60 plan but I chose the $45 one.
Good luck
Hello everybody.
I have been following conversations in this forum for some time now. I found useful information that helped me in making a decision about going to El Paso to have my baby. However, I had the biggest blow of my life yesterday at Chicago. They put me through a tough time, and eventually stamped on my passport(visa cancelled with prejudice), and sent me home immediately. I got to Germany and missed my flight due to long cue at the security. Now am stuck there, waiting till 11:00am tomorrow before I can start going back to Naija.
My head is turning round and round. I don't know what do now. I don't even understand what that statement means. I've searched in this forum, but I've only seen, cancelled without prejudice. Please can someone tell me the difference.
My story goes like this:

This happened to my sister some years ago at the same airport... Chicago isn't a friendly POE and I never advise my pregnant friends to go through there. The difference btw your story and my sister's is that she refused to be returned as she asked for a doctor's approval before she was sent back. Fortunately for her the doctor said she wasn't fit to fly back so the officers had no choice but to let her in but her visa was still cancelled.
Now what she did when she got back to Nigeria was to get a good immigration lawyer and her zero balance and she got her visa renewed despite it was cancelled with prejudice.

I'm just disheartened on your behalf that you had to go through all that with all the sacrifices made. Maybe you should just go to the uk and have the baby as opposed to going back to Nigeria.

Good luck.

@justwise, can u assist please? In need of info concerning affordable hospital & doc in Chicago ....thanks
There's a doctor Akere everyone's talking about in Chicago (i say that because like 4 people have asked me if I'm using him) I think he's affiliated with St Anthony hospital. Please Google that to be sure though I'm not using him I'm using another hospital and doctor but he comes highly recommended.

Pls I need a doctor in Conroe Texas. My host referred me to Dr fagobun which is about 1.20 mins drive from her place to oakbend. That means I go don born before we get to the hospital.
Pls can anyone help with a Dr in conroe. Thanks
NB: a friends wife sent this to me however she had her son 3 years ago. Also, she has a family member who works there so do your research.
Conroe regional hospital. Natural birth was $2000, epidural was about $845.
I paid an extra $300 for two days because he didn't pee till the second day he was born.
Doctor's office was $1300.
But basically, we should have spent about $5000 total, inclusive of scans, blood work, other things

Very inaccurate statement. No foreigner is entitled to "free "insurance in the United States. Please,do not encourage people to break the law.
The lady you claim used insurance to pay off her bill...is she a resident or citizen? Was she paying a monthly premium on that insurance she used? I really hope it is not medicaid that your friend has used. In order to be eligible for Medicaid, individuals need to satisfy federal and state requirements regarding residency, immigration status, and documentation of U.S.
citizenship.
There's nothing like free insurance.... you can pay using insurance it's like HMO (it's your money) However the person in question doesn't have all the full facts so it's better to have the whole story than just jump into conclusions.
However medicaid isn't insurance it's free medical treatment in the USA paid by the government ultimately tax payers money.

Poster sef doesn't have all the facts and info as he may be confusing insurance for Medicaid. If it's truly insurance you need to get the zero balance from the hospital and it would state that the insurance paid (thereby you had no recourse to public funds).

My opinion

I don come again. Pls some one said earlier that she used an agent to get baby's documents faster. Can't remember the page. Pls could someone assist me.on that? Want to leave this place as soon as possible cos I started my maternity leave weeks before I put to bed.
I used one Edwin guy like that for the nigerian visa but that was 3 years ago I can check my email for his details however you have to get the baby's BC first and then passport. I expedited so I got it at NY... I'll send a pm so I can call you directly.

Please why can't this people tell you all that is involved in childbirth so you will know how to make your budget. From the blues Hackensack just informed me now that they have to carry out Hep B test on me to know if baby has it or not. Meanwhile they gave her the vaccine this afternoon. They are now saying that the vaccine they gave her is for prevention (of course I know) . They need to carry out the test on me to know if i am positive or not in order to determine her own status. Of course there is an extra charge attached and now nobody here can tell me exactly how much am supposed to pay for it. Me I have refused it until I know how much it is. They said baby will not be discharged tomorrow until I carry out the test. I am waiting for them come tomorrow morning. I don't mean to discourage anybody here but I wish I hadn't changed my mind from going to El Passo. Please has anyone had this hep B experience? Is it compulsory?
I had told you earlier that NJ is expensive. My advise to you from experience is to budget like 7500 for the hospital in all... did you take epidural? Budget another 1500 or so. You're lucky you had vaginal in my case it was Cesarean. In all just focus on your baby and let them do the test. All the best and congrats on your baby.

Hi everyone,

A friend of mine gave birth to a very healthy baby girl in newyork 3 wks ago in her home unassisted. She is experienced in childbirth so it was no biggie for her.

She only went to the hospital that she filled in her visa application to see the paediatrician for baby checkup and vaccines.

She got her baby's birth certificate. Just stated her baby came too fast for her to make it to the hospital. Also got the SSN, US & Naija passports.

I had to ask her what receipts she would show when she has to renew her visa since she only paid about $600 in paediatric fees. She says she'll get the hospital to give her a zero balance report stating that she is not owing them and that should be enough during renewal of visa since she didn't use any medicaid.

I was thinking maybe she should just pay the childbirth fee even if she didn't use the service just for the sake of renewal and she thinks that's just crazy. She'll rather shop after saving herself such a huge bill. About $6000.

Gurus in the house, what do you all think? She is planning to return to Naija soon.
I don't quite understand why she should pay for a service she never received. On the BC it would state where she had the baby and I'm guessing it won't be the hospital. I don't think she should have a problem renewing so far she tells the truth and has proof. She should have at least gotten a midwife/ doula what she did was quite risky in my opinion.
All the best.

That you didnt use El Paso and Arizona does not warrant your statement. All US hospitals have certain minimum and maximum requirements before you can operate. So for those hospitals to be given license, they met those criteria s. Besides, its the blue pali thats the concern of most of us weather you delivered in George Bush personal hospital, El Paso or Arizona. I delivered my baby in El Paso last Sept and got excellent service from both Hospital and Doctors that I wouldn't even get in those over hyped hospitals in Lagos and Abuja. With epidural and no hidden charges.
Are you for real? Why are you so worked up about someone's post? It had nothing to do with the hospitals or quality of service rather a personal choice. Madam please take a chill pill..

Hello o, I'm presently in Maryland. For those considering Maryland or Virginia, I got some hospitals and tort I should share with the house.
1. Waldof women's care: they are a group of female ob/gyn. They are ranked very high arnd Waldof Maryland. Their fee is 2500 for self pay patients and they can also give you a 70percent giftcard off your latest. They use civista medical center. As for the hospital I called to get an estimate but they said they can't give an estimate per say as ur delivery determine what you will be charged.

2. Also Dr Rogers. His fee is 3000 for self pay patients. He uses Anna rundel hospital. Very good doctor too.

3. Dr ansera. His fee for self pay is 3000. He uses Inova alexandria hospital. The hospital fee for virginal birth is 5500 and they give a 46percent discount for self pay patients. Two days stay. I hope this help someone

Nne am 38 wks gone. I have taken enough risk jare. If I add cost of accommodation and transport in elpaso plus cost of flying to elpaso and back to new york to the hosp bill here, the difference in my total cost between elpaso and NJ will not be much.
Madam you get liver o.... 38 weeks is too far to be parading truly. I'm currently in Nj for now but won't be having the baby here anymore.
