Or you mean they obtain their visas well in advance, with the intent of using it for childbirth later - knowing full well that they are protected by an active Hispanic lobby. Or simply cross the border illegally and show up at hospitals in El Paso?

Frankly the childbirth issue isn’t a Nigerian problem... it’s a purely a Hispanic problem... and Nigerians are the unfortunate collateral damage. Hispanics can simply disobey the law and walk across the border while Nigerians have to stand behind humiliating visa interviews. Thanks for ruining it for the rest of us.

Good to see you haven't changed. Mschew! I

Hi, though I'm not in Calgary, what I think you should do is to research on the catholic school you will like your child to attend, give the school a call and go over to pick up their admission form, fill the form and pay the processing fee and then keep ur fingers crossed. If there are spots available to non catholic they will sure give you a call. But keep in mind that catholic schools are not free and they also wear uniforms.

Some Catholic schools are free and some are not free. Also, some don't wear uniform and some do. You'll know better when you decide on the school in your catchment area.

I think much also depends on your career choice. Alot of technical jobs prefer candidates trained at Canadian unis or colleges. Some provincial government cooperations, crown cooperations or engineering firms even prefer local graduates from a Uni/college in Alberta or Sask to a graduate from a uni in Ontario or Nova Scotia. However, some recuiters would not care and still invite a candidate for an interview. It's now left for the candidate to shine over others with local education and experience - This is the hard nut to crack. Your bridging programs and all other soft skills would be tested here as well as your knowledge.

The above example is for technical jobs (trades, technicians, technologists, engineers, etc). I can't say much for other careers.

Sometimes we just have to put ourselves in the shoes of the recruiter or better still hiring manager. They are humans and often times would prefer to go with a tested product than one that is not, especially if public safety is an issue.

For the lady asking about customer services, sales or teller jobs, a recruiter won't probably care where she got her education from. Alot of those jobs require only an high school certificate, good communication skills and passing basic security clearance. Going back to school won't be necessary for such jobs and many other similar jobs.

Exactly... not everyone works in a bank.

Thanks a lot. I hope my Studio 24 version would pass.

Does the validity also count? If the date stamped at the back of the photo exceeds the required six months, would that also be a reason to request for another one before PR card issue? If yes, would you recommend taking a new one when we land or here in Naija to forestall the delay. Apologies for the plenty questions.

I don't think it has anything to do with the studio. My husband used photokraft opebi and had no issues. They've been many studio 24 clients who have had their passport photographs refused too. We looked at the validity issue, a case has debunked that though..

Just take extra passports.

Dear All,

I have both an MSC and BSc. I initially evaluated the MSc thru WES and a report was sent to me after 8 months with an ECA No. on the report. Some weeks later, a friend wrongly adviced me that I needed to evaluate both my MSC and BSc for EE, so I sent my BSc also to WES, which has been evaluated as well.

The issue now is that the soft copy of the new report reflects both my BSc and MSc, and it has a different ECA no from the first report. Now I have two reports for my MSc with two different ECA nos. Also, I am yet to receive the original copy of the new report, but I have received the hard copy of the initial report.

Now, I used the initial ECA no. while creating my EE profile (since I have received the original copy) but my fear is will the new report render the old one invalid? Since they both have two different ECA nos, and they both reflect my MSC.

Please advice...

Thanks alot.

Instead of you to thank your friend... when you get to Canada and need to evaluate both degrees shey you'll eventually thank him or her. Just edit your profile to reflect the new one or leave it as it is. You're fine either way.

I dont believe they are acting on any instruction. I had my visa interview yesterday , with my husband and my 2 children and we were given no documents were asked and we have been here for just a year . They just asked to see our previous US visa and in less than 2 mins were out of there

You have previous US travel, you're not in the same category.

Not really trying to stir up old stuff but what do you say about 19 (2) of division 3 of the immigration and refugee protection act. For ease of reference it reads thus:

Right of entry of permanent residents

(2) An officer shall allow a permanent resident to enter Canada if satisfied following an examination on their entry that they have that status.

---------------------

It is my interpretation that if you have PR status, you have right of entry.

In addition,

IRCC here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/new-immigrants/pr-card/understand-pr-status.html

explicitly states that PRs have the right to live in Canada. I don't think it makes sense for someone to have the right to live somewhere but not enter that place.

Again I believe once your status is valid you have right to enter. Only way you can be denied is if there's some issue with your PR status. I do not believe it's a privilege.

Can someone find any case law on canlii that shows someone with valid PR status being denied?

This will mostly apply to those that don't meet up their residency obligations.

First, I understand the way you feel for being refused a US visa despite having your Canadian PR. While it is very rare for Canadian PR to be denied US visa, it does happen that PR holders are sometimes denied as it is in your case. The reason being that being granted the visa of any country is a privilege (not a right). Even if you feel that you 100% qualify, the visa officer may think otherwise.

Having said that, I see a lot of misconceptions in your post above which I will also like to address:

You should actually take your own advice of knowing your right because it looks to me that you have a wrong impression of what are your rights as a Canadian PR holder regarding being granted visa or entrance into US. The fact that the Canadian Government chose to allow Green Card holders to enter Canada without Canadian visa does not mean that the US Government has to reciprocate. In the past, before September 11 (and up to a certain time after 911), Canadian PR holders from certain countries (including from Nigeria) could enter the US without having to obtain a US visa. It is not the US fault if the Canadian Government chose not impose visa rule on Green card holders after the US imposed visa on PR holders. So, as a Canadian PR holder you do not have a right to US visa (your PR document only makes it easier to get). Even Canadian citizens that do not currently require visa to enter the US can still be denied entry just as US citizen could be denied entry into Canada and nothing will happen.

I also want to point out to you that even as a Canadian PR holder, you can also be denied re-entry into Canada for reasons that are obvious and not so obvious. This is because until you become a Canadian citizen, being granted entry into Canada is a privilege (not a right). We discussed this in the past on this thread. See this page: https://www.nairaland.com/3617393/living-canada-life-canadian-immigrant/259#66247695

As to this being a vendetta against Nigerians, I doubt this. You are already in Canada. The request for strict US visa is for the Nigerians that are based in Nigeria and who are trying to enter Canada illegally through the US and not those that are already living legally in Canada.

So, as many people have already said, just wait for a while and reapply.

Thank you! Nothing needs to be removed or added. Visa is a privilege.
Even Naija embassy does shakara to foreigners and deny them visas all the time.
Second base jare.

there’s nothing like ‘I didn’t qualify for visa at that tome’. This is the same visa students get easily talk more of a PR. You shd know your rights. Green card holders are allowed freely here without visa so why shdnt we? I’m sure it’s a vendetta against Nigerians because the bad eggs among us cross the border illegally and as a result immigration minister had to go down to Nigeria because of the issue and advised the US embassy to reduce the visa quota they give to Nigerians. People’s visas are being cancelled and those that have travelled once can’t even travel again with the same visa. I’m sure the officer was clearly acting on instructions if not, why would she also deny a married pregnant PR lady? I rest my case.

You're fighting the wrong person, please go back to the embassy and fight with them there. I don't know when a US visa became your right.

Thanks brother. I agree she was overzealous. She even denied a Nigerian married pregnant lady before me! For what And she’s à Jamaican lady. Blacks don’t even like people of their own color. It’s bad enough that green card holders come here without visa and it’s worse that we r made to apply for visa and even denied. Are we second class ?

I don't think it has anything to do with your race or colour. It can be annoying but you'll be alright.

Just reapply, maybe give yourself another 3 months. it's up to you.

I have a hard time believing this personally. What's the real story my guy.

Can you please stop this, seeing that you're not a visa officer.

I don't understand how it's unbelievable. Being a Canadian PR holder doesn't automatically qualify one for a US visa . I've read of Canadian passport holders that have been turned back at point of entry.
He didn't qualify for the visa at that time, all he needs to do is re- apply and convince the visa officer of his ties to Canada

@stnonsky you can reapply at any time.

So if we decide to use child's American passport, there wouldn't be any need to state/send the Nigerian passport, yeah?

Is there any benefit of using Nigerian passport over US passport?.

In my case I filled in my kids' Nigerian passports and used it for their medicals. Once we received PPR, I sent both and Accra chose the US passports so they only got COPR.

Good evening House,
My credential assessment is currently ongoing with WES. My Unilag masters certificate is not yet ready so the school issued me an attestation letter which was sent to WES along with my transcript.

The issue now is that if I receive ITA before my certificate is ready, can I go ahead and upload the attestation letter in lieu of certificate when I'm putting my documentation together?

Please help out.
Thanks

Please an urgent question. Please do you need transit visa to travel to Nigeria and back to Canada if you are stopping over at Heathrow or Armsterdam?

Please response is needed for an urgent decision. Thanks

It depends on if it's just one stop in those countries then an onward journey. Then you don't need. However if you're changing airports e.g YYZ to LHR then LGW to LOS, you'll need a visa. Same thing for the Schengen countries.

Good morning.

Please what is provident funds?
How many percentage of the funds in Mutual Benefits Assurance can someone use?

My brother/sister, I've had to Google the topic in the past. The Indians usually use provident funds and are able to access almost all of it, if not all of it ( as read on Canadavisa) but we use pension funds and the law allows you to access 25% when you've been out of a job for 4 months and above.

You will need to read the fine print of your mutual benefits assurance account. We used pension funds too and stanbic wrote the 25% clause in the letter.

I couldn't have written this better.
NB: I can do without it but for crying out loud Nigeria is hard and not everyone is wealthy. I remember almost hugging the Boss at the Canadian Embassy when she said I could use it. It was like a lottery I won because I really needed it.
This wouldn't hurt me so much if I didn't confirm and if I didn't know of anyone who used it.
I'll do them an email today or tomorrow and take a screenshot of whatever response I get. I'll advice others who are free to visit their embassy and send emails(Please don't start stating % they should tell you that if necessary)because it's not available at time of application same reason we can't use equity on real estate.

You just woke up from your Canadian slumber and you expect everything to remain the way you left it? Please go and test the 100% pension funds and get back to us.

We've had this argument before and there's a screenshot from CIC to back it up. Once you do it and you're successful, others will follow but for now biko stop giving people false hope.

Fact! I obtained a letter from IBTC without any 25% stuff stated. It's the too knows that initiated that. I know over 5 persons that used all % PF successfully. I'll go back to our previous thread and pray I locate old posts where it was established PF was totally acceptable just like this ACCA saga. Only statement was even required.

What's my own... Lemme kuku write a letter informing IRCC that I have some money in my PF account but it's illegal to use it because it won't be available when I apply but 4 months after i resign so they can successfully stop Nigerians from using PF because it's only available 4months after they resign.

CIC simply said acceptable POF includes PF. They never stated any %. Sad this might have affected a lot of persons with little funds. I was truly surprised to see the 25% stuff.

I hope you're not mixing provident funds and pension funds? I hear you can take all your provident funds but not your pension funds..

There was also a screenshot from CIC regarding this 25% pension fund ish in part 1 or 2. Can @glitteringstar do us the honour of digging up when she has some time on her hands.
