Nope am still using my maiden name, I need BC? Or Marriage certificate?
Also, can I use a regular notary public for the consent letter frm hubby for Passport or he must go to the embassy? I'm hoping he can send it b4 am due, I want to be out of here a mth after baby is born
Meant MC, silly auto correct. With the notary thing I can't say for sure but try the normal one first and if they don't accept, he will have to do it at the embassy. The good news is the embassy can mail it to the the agency of your choice for free( so he doesn't have to scan to you and all but he needs to make the request)
In 2011 NY agency accepted the normal notary but fast forward 2015 they only accept from the embassy.

Nef I hope you're already bearing hubby's name? If not you need BC. Meanwhile, if you use post office you'll have to wait for a week or two. It's better to use the agency downtown Chicago.

Hello House,
I just got my visa approved but my name on Passport is still carries my maiden name. Pls would Marriage certificate and newspaper Publication fly when I want to do baby's documentation so he bears hubby's surname or what other documentation do I need.
You're fine with your marriage certificate. With my first I didn't need anything but with my second I needed my marriage certificate if not I would have been on a long thing. I guess it depends on the state and their issues with paternity.

This is quiet informative. But are you saying you paid $232 for Naija passport alone? How much did you now pay for visa?
If she got a Naija passport she doesn't need a visa.

. I

I heard you can use the hospital record to do the Nigeria passport.
I'm not sure you're truly pressed for time if not you would have used your temporary BC to get a one year American passport. Thereby, saving you the cost of changing ticket. They must have given you a temp BC if not go and get something from the hospital verifying that you gave birth to that child, make an appointment to the passport agency near you taking everything you needed initially (tkt, fees, forms etc) you will be interviewed and you can explain the whole BC issue they will offer a 1 year passport instead of the 5 years and before the one year is up I'm sure the BC would have come. Then you can renew passport here in Nigeria or if you want to travel too renew it's up to you. I don talk too much.

Hello good people in the house,a friend gave me Info about nairaland. I arrived US 4 days ago to have my baby,HoustonTexas to be precise I have $4500 on me and i am 34weeks gone. Kindly advice which hospital or birth center that i can afford with this amount. Thanking you in anticipation as I earnestly await your response.
If this is your first then it's a bit dicey but if not and you're not a CS candidate then a birthing centre is ideal. Find a birthing centre near you and negotiate with a midwife.
Otherwise get a doctor that is affiliated with Oakbend ( I think it's cheaper than Methodist) depending on what part of Houston you're at. Pay the doctor, test and epidural(if you're having one) and do a payment plan with the hospital (make sure you pay off before you go and renew your visa)Meanwhile,if you have kept something for shopping reduce it and add to the birthing money. I understand you took a calculated opportunity.
Good luck.

What about entry via Mexico?
For those worried about entry via US, there is another option.

Mexico will let you in if you have a valid US visa.
So enter Mexico and then cross over to USA via road.

Advantages-It is less used way, better chances of going through.
If refused entry, you go back to Mexico and try again another day. If you directly fly to US, they may turn you back and you have to go back to home country.

Cost, discomfort would be higher this way, I agree.

Any comments?

Please does this include the amount for the expedited service? If not how much is it in total for the expedited service? I intend to get the money order and I don't to act in error, I am really pressed for time
Will the birthcertificate be returned to me by mail? Or what?

@ shelly23 said she used two letters, one from her and one from her husband. So it could mean either way is ok, right?
If it's going to be one letter signed by both parents how would the format be? And some of us are not here with our spouse so what do we do? For me I already have pre signed papers by my husband all I have to do is write the letter and that would be easier for me if it's written individually
For my first my husband wasn't with me I emailed him the letter and he signed. He then scanned it back to me and I signed. He was there for my second. When you get to the format bridge , whoever is helping you get the visa will help you cross it. It's a simple letter and you're given a format.
Stop stressing everything usually falls in place at the end of the day.

Check @ shelly23 post on page 138 she already gave some kind of format which I intend to follow. I am yet to apply for the visa but I took out time to check out the process on their website. I believe you write the letters individually as opposed to signing one letter. I stand to be corrected though by those that already got their baby's visa
You only need to sign one letter. Both parents sign the letter.

Moral of the story... hold your CASH strong! which CBP in his right senses will harass you with $15k? Please take cue from @obeezydabs look for cash in Nigeria even if it's to buy from black market, make it up to $10k plus. Declare it at POE, it's not a crime. It will favour you at POE and in paying ur bills, instead of this gobe I have found myself in.
You're so on the money. Even though I went via jfk I took 12k, I just declared it and that was it. I've said you people that go via O'Hare I doff my hat... I can't whisper talk less of shout.

Don't worry @modath, be prayerful. Chicago POE will be merciful to you, worst case scenario, they will delay you for max 5hours but they will not turn you back IJN. Did you read Akindolz experience?

It also seems most of the hosps are CASH only. They will put big caveat sef, No credit or Debit card accepted! Please hold your raw cash o! I haven't succeeded with money order yet, further compounding this dollar problem. I don tire so o!
You can also write a check of you have one or you can get someone to write one on your behalf.

You can but they'll give you the 1 year passport instead of the 5 years one. I know someone who did that in NJ some years ago.
It's really up to you if you're really pressed for time.

When you do not know ask people who know. He is a board certified family physician and his practice includes Obstetrics and Child Care.

It means that he specializes in Obstetrics and Child Care. Contact doctors in US to explain things to you since you are ignorant. US based Doctors in the house please step in

What did you serve. Tarnishing a good mans image?

You said he neglected your friend that was why i brought up that incident that he rushed to my sisters house to deliver my baby to show that he is not as bad as you are painting him to be!

What is your business if i paid or not? Can see you specialise in ameboism.... this matter you are carrying on your head didn't even happen to you. I am sure if i tell you want happened afterwards you will add salt and pepper and start broadcasting it. Sorry you do not qualify...
I don't think it's proper to tarnish the man's image whatsoever I've heard good things about him though I didn't use him he just delivered my childhood friend's baby last week. If you don't feel comfortable using him then by all means find another option. I was just going to talk about the uk and how it's midwives that usually take deliveries.....
Sometimes, we take things personally. It's good to let people know stuff without shoving it in their faces... its up to them to decide whether they'll still use that doctor or not. And bad experiences come along once in a while...
I might consider him for my third and last sha. .

Look at who was disapproving Nerf's comment, you've just done the same thing. Like I said let's be accommodating it's not like we know each other.

@Nerf if it will pay you to do the money order maybe you should try another walmart maybe a big one if convinient and explain that someone you know did it for 79 cents.
It could also be that it differs from state to state.

Pls help me with this question pls. Am on the planning phase of this journey as am just 11 weeks gone. ( just about to apply for visa). But am torn between leaving my toddler at home in Nigeria and going with her. She will be 19 months in October when I will probably travel.
Hmmm madam I couldn't leave my 3 year old with everything everyone was saying. Too much stress, this and that.... But na me know the kain pikin I born so I kuku carry my certificate with me (over active and has a mind of his own). Meanwhile, I don't have parents and neither does my hubby.
It was very stressful but I had a very fantastic host who was very caring and very accommodating. (My childhood friend). She would take time out and babysit him when I go to the clinic or when I go out and my three days hospital stay she stayed with him for me. I will be forever grateful. However , I have planned to have the 3rd and last in 5 years time so I don't worry about leaving any child behind.
So all my long story is that it's your decision but whichever you choose it won't be easy. Thank God that phase is over.
