anybody used any hospital in San antonio? My aunty just called DH about a hospital there with a total package of 4700 for elective CS! I'm still skeptical cos I don't want to enter one chance!
Is this San Antonio tx? It's very possible o. Know someone who had her baby there this year and she she said it was very cheap but details are sketchy... will try and ask more info and post when I get some.

Citizen by birth on Canadian soil [paragraph 3(1)(a)]

Citizen’s date of birth: on or after February 15, 1977

Paragraph 3(1)(a) sets out that a person is a Canadian citizen if that person is born in Canada. In most cases, a person born in Canada is automatically a Canadian citizen at birth.

Refer to subsection 3(2) for the exception of citizenship by birth on Canadian soil.

Exception to birth on Canadian soil [subsection 3(2)] :

Pursuant to subsection 3(2), despite being born in Canada, a person is not a Canadian citizen if, at the time of their birth, neither one of their parents was a citizen or lawfully admitted to Canada for permanent residence and either of that person’s parents was

Hello peeps. Been following this thread since April as a guest and i must say it has been too too helpful. A big kudos to all who have contributed to it ( you know yourselves) i hail una. Before i continue, i just want to add that reading is a MUST for every newbie. Its just wiser to be fully equipped with the info you need before embarking on a journey . most times the info is right under ones nose, use your search button to narrow down and be patient! Its not a sprint but a marathon.

That been said, i entered JFK POE yesterday and this how stuff went down after exchanging pleasantries with the immigration officer

CBP: looks at my passport photo to confirm im the same person. after being satisfied, asks me to place my fingers for prints ( in my mind i was like just like that?!)
Next thing he asks the million dollar question. Whats the purpose of your trip
ME: vacation and childbirth
CBP: what do you mean by childbirth?
ME: ( a lil confused now) im here to have my baby
CBP: why?
ME: ( i actually chuckled) cause the medical care im going to receive here is better considering my first experience in a reputable hospital was a nightmare
CBP: ok, come with me, when you are asked just explain

So we went to another section( admissibility review) waited a bit for my name to be called. Had my supporting documents with me ready to offload on them. I was prepared! When i heard my name, i went to the officer and as he was handing me my passport he asked how long im staying but because i was over ready i wasnt even listening, i went ahead to explain what he hadnt asked about how id informed the embassy about my plans, was even going ahead to show him the paperwork. I noticed he wasnt even trying to look at it, he just simply asked me the question again . how long will you be staying. I told him till Nov cos baby is due in Oct. He simply said you are GOOD TO GO!!! I collected my passport only to see i had been stamped in till march 2016. So basically i was interrogating myself!! I was already settled!
Congratulations on your successful poe. Come back and tell us about your 1st appointment etc. Wishing you a safe delivery.

Hello Wonderful people,

I don't mean to derail the thread, but i have a strong urge to put this word out there. If for any reason you decide to stay with a friend or relative for free instead of getting a paid apartment, try to show some courtesy or love to your hosts. Some of the few things they may appreciate amongst other things;

- Carry some naija foodstuff for them when you're going
- You can assist with $50 for groceries every month depending on your pocket ( drinks, water, tissue paper etc. from Walmart)
- Help them with a reasonably sized bag on your way back to naija for their folks back home.

My close pal who hosted a family free of any charge (Mum and Toddler - approx. 3 months, hubby and new baby - short while) had painful stories to share about their time with her. I choose to believe her because we're about 4 preggo pals that have stayed with her to date
It's just common sense honestly. Even when we go on holidays I've been taught to help talk less of when you go and give birth.
I've heard people say but when they come to Nigeria, we give them car , driver , put on the gen etc. The way we live is different so just help as you can.
Even if they say no, go to the grocery store and pick up things they usually use pay and bring it home. If you're truly on a tight budget still make something out. It is well.

@EL2015

I'm not in a position to judge you, so I'm just going to skip that part and concentrate on your questions.

Many people have asked if this lady has any other ties, but you didn't respond. Are you the only thing/person she lives for tie she has? No job, no school? This will be a huge contributory factor towards her visa issuance. Lumping a huge sum into her account will be very detrimental.

Please, the last thing you want to do is appear to be married or engaged to this lady as that is bigamy especially if you are not a muslim. It will go on your record and this will make it more difficult for you to get a US visa in the future.

Most times, facing our problems heads-on costs us less (in every ramification) than taking the seemingly "easy way out".
I also hope one day you won't apply with your family at the embassy and the VO brings it up.
While I have no right to judge you, I just can't help to feel sorry for your wife. Hmmm men sha.

I didn't wanna interfere.. But "will you stop that" isn't rude, compare it to calling another preggy married woman "itk",And if you've been following you'll understand why she's asking her to stop that. From the first reply to her one would think she'll get the gist and just fash.

Ok no more derailing this thread...
Same difference....
Both rude comments.

We can all do better.

Also, are there appartment hotels or extended stays? Which are the affordable ones please?
Most likely one would have Google these things. Most people I know who've gone to give birth in Canada usually stay with Family/ friends. Unless @Hotstepper is will to help but it will be restricted to Toronto/Ontario.

Abeg, we still dey wait ooo. Do post it when you can.
Pele. I had forgotten jare.
Passport
Passport photo (2)
Marriage certificate if married
Birth certificate of children even if they aren't travelling with you.
Letter from employer/ evidence of employment if self employed. (Also for spouse regardless of if they are applying or not)
ID card
Bank statements
Letter of invitation / hotel booking
Flight itinerary
Land deeds, house deeds, investment evidence to show strong ties to the the country.
Also, if you have recently paid school fees for your kids put photocopies etc

I recent came across new info to print out one's US travel history( Esp for those that go to the US frequently). Print from i94 website.
Photocopy previous visa pages uk, us, schengen, SA, China etc

The last one I didn't do but a family friend did sha. He did a bank draft of 2500$, made a photocopy of it and added it to the application ( guess it was to show he had money for the trip but I think bank statement should suffice).
Good luck all (this info na em agent dey collect 1500$ for o)

@Hotstepper my cousin got 6months visa last month oooo. Though she stated she was going for a conference. I guess thats why then.
I don't think there's a set duration. They give what they want depending. For example I've seen people being given 2 weeks, 1 year, 6 months, I got 3 years, a family friend got 4 years so it depends.
