What strikes me is that these visits came after the elections. If they had come before the elections, I would have thought they were mere publicity stunts. There is also a clear timetable for when and how many MW will be added to the national grid. 850 MW is scheduled for the end of this month, so we can be pretty confident that we now have a govt thats serious about tackling the issues of power supply. |
There are very many troubling aspects to the article; from an Egyptian doctor joining in to shoot Nigerians to soldiers taking the side of the almajiri's to shoot the innocent in cold blood. This matter is going to be very difficult to resolve, but it MUST be frontally tackled, otherwise the country will continue to be held hostage by animals who see setting off bombs and pogroms as everyday tasks. The country must not be held to ransome. |
Gbawe:Lol! ACN frustrates the pants off Ribadu. . . And they blame GEJ!! Damn! Errm, how does that work? |
Many of us will never believe a word out of Sahara Reporters, so here's an alternative: Also in attendance at the meeting was the presidential candidate of the party in the just concluded presidential election, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/acn-plans-regional-development-commission-for-s-west-edo/90970/ Its bye bye to politics for Ribadu. |
If blacks didn't question such cartoons through time, they would still have to give their seats to whites on the bus, there would have been no Martin Luther King, neither would Obama have ever crossed the White House lawn (except to pick litter). |
Chickens are coming home to roost. ACN can be an effective party without some of the extreme positions they take. Now that the elections are over, we should hear a few more voices from those that have found some of ACN's dogma's deeply troubling. |
Here's a chart of HDI vs HPI for all states:
It definitely cannot be solved in a year, but it is not something that SHOULD take 50 years. I'm going to be too old to enjoy Nigeria if the goal of stable electricity is going to take 50 years to be achieved. Ohhh so this was said in 2006? my bad.
Lol! Anyways, Liyel Imoke was seriously probed, I'm sure even stones were blistering with rage at the time as well. Nothing came of the probe as we all know, its a sad part of our wretched history. Concerning GEJ, there are already scheduled dates for new plants to come into operation and where they are late, announcements with reasons are given; eg an additional 1,266MW was slated to be delivered by the end of this month, but only 843MW (about 70%) is deliverable by the end of May 2011. This is still an appreciable figure and the reasons are given here: http://allafrica.com/stories/201104260248.html If there was to be the same hoodwinking we had in the past, we would have been getting funny "not possible in 50 years" style statements, instead we have several verifiable landmarks. I'm certain that the supply of electricity would have increased very noticably by the end of this year, otherwise call me when you wanna burn the place down, and I'll be the general. ![]() We should be close to 24/7 power supply by 2013, except power demands rocket up. |
@Beaf No one is blaming GEJ for the indiscretion of the past. And of course GEJ does not control electricity, but he has the fresh air to make things happen. But wasn't stable electricity one of his new agenda? Do we have to wait 50 more years for that to be checked off the list?
Thats not something that can be solved in a year, tho.Its still terribly bad to bring GEJ's name into a thread about something a minister said while Obj was president. |
Beaf, you know better than to site a 2005 survey, which is essentially outdated, to make your point. We all know that Ibori and others looted most of the funds intended to keep the trend you are championing, going. Provide more recent data to support your arguement, this laziness of yours is unbecoming. olodo
Why the bad bele na? Dude, if anything, the gap has only grown wider. Ibori stole like the fool that he is, but he also laid down massive development; we just don't tolerate thieves, development or not, so the maga is in jail now. Anyway, all figures support my argument, regardless of the year. The 2008/2009 figures are even more wicked in their emphasis. ![]() I invited you to Delta, to travel the Sapele, Warri, Ughelli, Asaba route. Its for a rather unscientific, but telling study I call the "bush index." LOLZ!!! It is the amount of bush you encounter between developed places (nice towns, factories, businesses etc). Delta does spectacularly well indeed! |
emmatok:It is from statements like the below that have emanated from the very topmost echelon of ACN. The number of legislators cannot negate such: Jonathan inciting others against Yoruba – ACNhttp://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201102222451954 Many more examples can be provided. I'm sure you know that too, which IMHO would be why you've neatly side-stepped addressing it. |
hercules07:The GEJ camp has nothing to worry about, cos he won a genuine victory. Poor Buhari was banking on ALL the kids in the NW and NE to deliver him votes, well, it seems he got 6 million of those. Stop worrying about peripheral matters, the biggest loser will be the core-North, cos their padded population has been demistified; its also about to be proven in court as well by the Fulani prince, Buhari. The process is one of self-destruction, it all seems surreal. |
^ You keep referring to other political parties, but I guess its, cos we agree about the observations on ACN and you have no real counter-arguments. Just clean up the ACN house, dude; there is no need for such off-putting and dangerous tactics. By the way, I am not a member of PDP, just as I am not a member of ACN. And parties are not determined to be fascist leaning or ethnically bigoted from the number of legislators they have; spread is measured by number of state govts. |
blacksta:Your instinct is to click reply without bothering to read. Its a form of illiteracy. Yeah, when you give excuses for blaming GEJ for stuff that happened during Obj's regime, then we can only expect you to give excuses for how GEJ caused the civil war or stopped us getting independence in 1956/57. Daft. |
^ You can abuse me from now until tomorrow. But most people would still see beyond that, to the fact that Ngige saw the need to make claims that ACN is not a Yoruba party. Why did he see the need for that? The reason you are resorting to abuse, is that you have no counter to the obvious. PDP might have performed below your expectation, but that is no reason at all for ACN to tend toward fascism. emmatok: From your Quote it is the PDP that is FASCIST here and not ACN.You just wish to be blind, but wishes aren't reality. Ok, lets agree just for the sake of it, that you truly believe PDP is fascist. Lol! Would that stop the charge that ACN is fascist? Erm, NO! Deal with the issue at hand. If you are an ACN person, get your party to stop making bigoted statements and encouraging ethnic paranoia. |
emmatok:That is another topic for discussion and several threads have been opened already. Sadly for you, the corruption you percieve in PDP has nothing to do with the definitions of fascism or ethnic bigotry. This thread though, is about ACN. Deal with it, please. I agree that fascism is a bit of a strong word, but it is better to heed the alarm now; the bells are ringing loudly. Below is the definition of fascism from Wikipedia: Fascism ( /ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a radical, authoritarian nationalist political ideology.[1][2] Fascists advocate the creation of a totalitarian single-party state that seeks the mass mobilization of a nation through indoctrination, physical education, and family policy including eugenics.[3] Fascists seek to purge forces and ideas deemed to be the cause of decadence and degeneration and produce their nation's rebirth based on commitment to the national community based on organic unity where individuals are bound together by suprapersonal connections of ancestry, culture, and "blood".[4] Fascists believe that a nation requires strong leadership, singular collective identity, and the will and ability to commit violence and wage war in order to keep the nation strong.[5] Fascist governments forbid and suppress opposition to the state.[6]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism It is easy to recognise ACN ticking the vast percentage of the boxes above. It is pursuing a very dangerous path in a multi-ethnic and under developed country like Nigeria. ACN can be successful without going down dark routes, there really is a thin thread to the slippery slope. I don't know what you make of the headline below, but to me and many others, it is very alarming: Jonathan inciting others against Yoruba – ACNhttp://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201102222451954 There are very many quotes where that came from, I'm sure we can even feel several pages with quotes that seem to have popped right out of a fascist handbook. |
What do you guys think about Schumi? From 7 time WDC, that dude is beginning to look more and more like a highly paid clown. |
Are we set to see another boring Schumacheresque season? The other teams need to buck up to catch Red Bull. For me, it was a bit of a boring race with overtaking with the DRS being too easy and drivers attempting to cut through the field being punished by excessive tyre wear. The only real excitement came from the Lewis vs Jenson battles and Massa's general drive. I really don't think the FIA have got the F1 rules right, its all beginning to look too weird and plastic. The DRS should be thrown in the bin and tyres made a bit longer wearing. |
@ beaf and co what your problem in ACN being a regional party or Yoruba party all i know is that the party is making good impact in life of the mases not like your so call PDP that has nothing to show for 12yrs i left Lagos for Ondo in 1998 and come back to Lagos in 2002 i hardly recognize Lagos cos everything has change and then its Tinubu in power so he make Good inpact and when PDP come with there Mago Mago riging it was only tinubu that stand still that Lagos wont be rigged then now that he work so hard with some party member to regain back the SW and even Edo state and also some seat in the north and east you guys are now pointing accuse finger on him, you guys can jump off the cliff for all i care ACN is a strong party that has is strong Base in SW for now and come 2015 ACN is gonna have her base all over the Nigeria let wait and see ACN rules
Dude, you are talking nonsense, who gives a damn about what you think about other parties? Deal with the issues of ACN's fascism that have been raised. ACN can be a regional party without resorting to ethnic bigotry; both Nigeria and ACN cannot afford such nonsense. I guess though, that you agree with the perception that ACN is an ethnically based party that uses bigotry as a tool. Dude, that is a very dangerous and irresponsible strategy. |
oh oh, team GEJ are already running scared! Watch out for the drama that is about to unfold as forensic technology is used to map finger prints in ballot papers against INEC's database. No doubt nigerians will begin to question the credibility of the last elections
What a silly comment! In case you don't know, Buhari's case is almost laughable. All the time Buhari's team was engaging almajiri's and spouting meaningless "running scared, question his PhD" talk, GEJ's team was busy strategising and employing intellectual might to maroon and dismember Buhari's neanderthal tactics. So there is rock solid evidence of child voting, photo, video, aural, witness, written, from internet sources; whereas Buhari is talking crap about Excell. Its a no prisoners taken situation. ![]() |
I really wonder about NLer's some times. We have the usual crew here blaming GEJ, but as usual they never really bothered to read the article otherwise quite a few things would have jumped at them:
[li]Liyolel Imoke is no longer the minister of power and steel[/li] [li]The article is dated, 05.14.2006[/li] [li]GEJ was not even a part of the FG[/li] [li]Obj was president[/li]
etc etc etc Now, lets hear the idiotic excuses. |
An emergency needs to be declared for Northern Nigeria. Gej needs to grab hold of BBC Hausa to begin directly mobilising the people to help themselves. There needs to be massive direct intervention in all aspects of Northern society, because EVERY aspect of Northern society is set up wrong; people riot when Dutch artists make foolish cartoons, yet their kids are dying of hunger and disease. The strange thing is if we begin discussing oil, their elite are the first to jump out and tell us about how to split offshore wells. They are also the first to talk about their rights to rule the country after 38 years of dismal failure, cluelessness, 13 year old brides and absolute fvckery. The North is in a state of acrid decay. The dissloving of the groundnut into desert tells a huge story in itself. Agriculture was abandoned in a mad dash for oil, now the desert is claiming unused arable lands. Those stvpid almajiri's that go about killing graduates are kept ignorant of what the real situation is. Indeed, quite a few educated Northerners are convinced that they feed the South or that the South cannot get food elsewhere. With true federalism, this state of decay would never have happened, because it would have been "eat from your sweat." However, their leaders decided to become parasites and foist themselves as a burden on the country. |
namfav:Maybe you are one of those that has never been to the South. Your statement is ridiculous beyond imagination! I'm just thinking you had a few drinks too many over the weekend. I have travelled all parts of the country; compared to the South, the North is shocking. |
^ Dude, Tinubu's involvement with the drugs trade is proven. You should also look up Alpha Betta, Hitec, and LCC. . . .And the only reason why Ibori is in jail and Tinubu isn't, is that while Delta state elders sweated their butts off, writing petisions to the EFCC and FG, the exact opposite happened with Tinubu. He was made a god because of his stolen wealth by some of the very same folk who point bright fingers at Ibori. Some argue that Tinubu brought in Fashola who has generated a lot of development in Lagos; well, Ibori too brought tremendous development to Delta state, but he stole and was fought to a standstill by the people who helped the authorities find new directions outside the old charges he had evaded (as Tinubu is currently doing). Jail Tinubu and hand ACN over to Fashola. As for how ACN see's itself, here's something attributed by the Punch to Lai Mohamed due to Jonathans 'rascal' statement: Jonathan inciting others against Yoruba – ACNhttp://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201102222451954 It is noteworthy that at the time the statement was made, ACN only controlled Lagos, Osun and Ekiti. Ogun, Oyo and Ondo were not under ACN's control, so how come the paranoid sweeping statement by Alhaji Lai Mohammed to cover the whole of Yoruba land? It is because he clearly thinks ACN is a Yoruba party. Ngige must have come under pressure as well, to make the statement he did. Its no like anybody asked him. And lastly, I keep telling you I do not work for GEJ. But I'm beginning to believe its just a tool to divert the argument toward PDP. I'm not even a member of PDP, so those arguments do not even begin to address any of my points about Tinubu's ACN being fascist; they are neither here nor there. It helps to stay on point. |
An interesting titbit about Delta state - street lights don't go off (NEPA or not). |
What of Kaduna, Kano and Osun?
I don't think its fair to bring in Osun. Oyo and Ogun are stronger. However, for Kaduna: With few exceptions, the Niger Delta states appear to be better off on most human development indices than Nigeria as a whole, although not in the case of such states as Lagos, Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory, which have clearly benefited from infrastructure paid for by oil.http://hdr.undp.org/en/reports/nationalreports/africa/nigeria/nigeria_hdr_report.pdf Rivers and Delta are certainly better off than Kaduna and the FCT (not Asokoro o! ) and Delta state surpasses even Lagos by this development index. |
Markings mine. Source: http://hdr.undp.org/en/reports/nationalreports/africa/nigeria/nigeria_hdr_report.pdf

@Rhino You could use this. It is UN data covering 9 states, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers states in 218 pages of solid facts and figures: http://hdr.undp.org/en/reports/nationalreports/africa/nigeria/nigeria_hdr_report.pdf Another fact is tha Lagos states HDI is circa 0.6, about the same as Delta states. The Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite statistic used to rank countries by level of "human development" and separate "very high human development", "high human development", "medium human development", and "low human development" countries. The Human Development Index (HDI) is a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education and standards of living for countries worldwide. It is a standard means of measuring well-being, especially child welfare. It is used to distinguish whether the country is a developed, a developing or an under-developed country, and also to measure the impact of economic policies on quality of life.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Development_Index |
My posisition here is to defend Delta state only, the positions of Rivers and Lagos are foregone conclusions IMHO. I will kick this off by frightening Rhino with a few statistics, and then we will gradually build up to data from publicly held sources and then, United Nations research. But first, some Human Development Index frighteners (as far as Nigeria is concerned, HDI, circa 0.4): The United Nations Development Programme, the UNs global development network, has placed Delta State ahead of other states in the Niger Delta in the Human Development Index for the 2005 assessment period.http://www.deltastate.gov.ng/niger%20delta.htm Then digest this article that is only about a part of Delta state. Lol! The scale of the events we are kicking off will start sinking in: Proposed Anioma State: Richer than thirty-two states in Nigeria including Abujahttp://umuanioma.com/2011/03/propsoed-anioma-state-richer-than-32-nigerian-states-including-abuja/ After the above has thoroughly digested, I'll pop up with hard data. |
^ This thread is about something else. Open a thread to question my statement, and I'll respond fully and in detail. |
Abagworo:And yet another time, you've typed like a dunce. By the way, the most developed states (backed by facts, not what you think), are 1. Lagos 2. Rivers 3. Delta |
According to history (Yoruba and Edo) the Alaafin is way superior to the Ooni. |
