jibosqie:Dat one na big lie! Anyways, happy birthday to Buhari. |
jibosqie:68? That man is at least 80. Are you sure he knows his age? ![]() |
How ooooooold is he now, 80 or 90? |
He said that “President Goodluck Jonathan in his magnanimity has directed the NA to rebuild all the structures damaged during the encounter, while relief materials have been sent to alleviate the suffering of the people in the area”, and announced that Army Engineers have commenced work, assuring that “within the next one week, construction work will begin in earnest”.The army rebuilding the houses they destroyed? What a welcome change! While we must condemn the operations that caused the unnecessary loss of civilian lives at Ayakoromo, it is impossible not to notice Jonathans positive difference in approach. As for Northern deployments, I'm of the opinion that the whole core North should be under serious military guard after IBB and Atiku's threats. If the wind blows a leaf, shoot the damn thing. |
egift:Not so fast! You are being very dishonest. Can we have a quotation, context and reference link? If you cannot back up your statement with the above, I'll advice that you humble yourself and withdraw your words. |
I think Atiku should test the waters by making another foolish treasonable declaration. . . You know, being a "strong man" and all. . . . Then gboa!!!! Atiku in a cage like a wet chicken! --[s]Some cages are called Kirikiri, others Gashua, Ita Oko etc.[/s]-- ![]() |
He gave Saraki police, gave him FEDECO, then under Ovie-Whisky. It was Obasanjo that came to use Ovie -Whisky to do the havoc they did.Rubbish. By every means demistify Saraki if you must, but do not drag the name of a good man in the dust. Justice Victor Ovie Whisky was one of the most upright men ever to hold high office in Nigeria. Until his death in 1983, his only properties were a piece of land in Ohore (close to Effurun and off Warri - Sapele Rd) and a very modest bungalow in his hometown, Agbaro. Please do not soil his name in your zeal, lest the rest of your article be classed as guesswork. The elections were rigged, but it only needed the state and local chapters to be corrupt, not the FEDECO boss himself. Please withdraw or rephrase your words, don't spit on the dead. |
jabbok:Dude, I hate underhand tactics such as the subconcious game employed by vorosmartm. The import of his statement is, "we can dare Jonathan, heat up the country, maybe even do a Boko Haram (or more) and nothing would come of it." In other words, it is a strengthening call to Atiku's foot soldiers, words to the effect that mayhem will be easy because the target is weak. I challenge anyone to show me how GEJ is weak, can you? It is a dangerous falsehood that needs be tackled vigorously in these trying times. If vorosmartm is making sweeping statements that are both dangerous and foolish at first sight, then he'd better back them up or shut up. We are discussing the treasonable words of Atiku supporters and someone pops in to make a statement from out of Atiku's mayhem scriptbook? If you can't spot a dangerous statement from far off, you might need glasses or a telescope. |
vorosmartm:GEJ, a weakling? It is fools like you that always fall by the wayside. Keep on decieving yourself and the fools around you, while GEJ continues to thump and bamboozle you clowns at every turn. GEJ has quietly won every single battle against the fools arrayed against him, calling themselves the cabal and he will continue to stun and discombobulate your weak mental faculties. afterall, it is fried brain cells from weakilings like Atiku that generate threats of violence, cos they've been intellectually and strategically walloped. |
2011: Prepare for war •Atiku supporters threaten to ‘cancel’ Nigeria •We’re ready for Atiku, IBB - Ex-militants •Jonathan spits fire •I’m not intimidated - Atiku •SSS warns aspirants Written by Our Reporters Friday, 17 December 2010 THE battle for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) presidential ticket assumed a dangerous dimension on Thursday over a statement credited to former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in which he alluded to violent take-over of government. The statement by the former vice-president has generated hot reactions, further widening the gulf between the camps of President Goodluck Jonathan and Alhaji Abubakar. However, in one of the reactions to Abubakar’s statement, some of his supporters from the North have declared that the office of the president of the country is North’s sole right and have threatened to unleash mayhem of unimaginable proportions on the country, if Abubakar does not get the presidential ticket of the PDP. Acting under the aegis of Coalition of Atiku Northern Supporters (CANSU), the Abubakar supporters said the crisis that would envelop the nation should Abubakar not get the ticket would be greater in proportion to the series of Boko Haram massacres that had engulfed the country. CANSU, in a release signed on Thursday by its President, Mallam Abubakar Ibrahim and the Secretary-General, Dr Yakubu Ahmed, stated that it came to the conclusion because “Nigerians do not want a peaceful change.” “We wish to state that we support the position of our mentor, Turaki Abubakar, that what Nigeria needs is not a peaceful change. “This is no threat. Boko Haram will be a child’s play compared with the action our members can take. We have been patient enough. And enough, they say, is enough. “The presidency is our right. The fact that we bowed to pressure to allow a southerner, Chief Obasanjo, who has now turned to be a betrayer and a disgrace to us, to become president in 1999 does not mean we do not know what to do to reclaim our right. “We are happy that Turaki has now seen reason with us that what Nigeria needs is violent change and not a peaceful one,” CANSU said in the release. “Some individuals, especially former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whom we gave our massive support because of our mentor and patron (Abubakar), do not want to respect the wish of the North for zoning and give Turaki Abubakar the PDP ticket. “We wish to state unequivocally, without any ambiguity, that we, the Atiku supporters, are prepared for any eventuality should our patron be refused the ticket he has worked for. “Our position remains: ATIKU PRESIDENCY ZA MU ISO WAJE KO WACE IRIN HALI (We will get there by whatever means).” The group, therefore, warned Nigerians to prepare for the consequences of Alhaji Abubakar not clinching the PDP presidential ticket, saying “may Allah, the Almighty not CANSU (cancel) Nigeria.” Meanwhile, the controversial zoning debate appears to have taken a new twist, as repentant militants of the Niger Delta have warned that the nation’s disintegration is imminent. The ex-creek combatants, besides the warning, alerted that the nation “would be surprised” if their acceptance of the amnesty offer by the late president, Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua, was taken for a ride. The repentant warlords, under the auspices of the Ex-MEND Commanders Forum, were reacting to a statement credited to former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, and former Vice-President Abubakar, in which they warned that “if Jonathan makes peaceful transition impossible, he should be prepared for the inevitability of a violent change.” Babangida and Abubakar spoke in Abuja on Wednesday at the National Stakeholders’ Conference organised by the Adamu Ciroma-led Northern Political Leaders Forum (NPLF). But the ex-MEND commanders, in a statement signed by High Chief Bibopre Ajube (aka Shoot at Sight), ‘General’ Ezekiel Akpasibewei (ex-leader of the Niger Delta underdogs) and ‘Commader’ Micah Kpenfi (aka Ota 1), described the position of the northerners as “a call for coup,” hence treasonable. The statement said “while we hold firm the belief that the freedom of expression, as enunciated in the constitution, allows individuals to express their opinion on given issues, we view, in every aspect of their intents, the statement made by the two leaders who have served the nation in various capacities as very dangerous for the survival of this nation.” Efforts to reach the former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of MEND, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), were not successful. But his media aide, Paul Bebenimibo, who told the Nigerian Tribune that the ex-militant was in a “crucial meeting,” described the position of the two presidential aspirants as “most dangerous.” In another development, President Jonathan has vowed to deal with any politician or political groups who threaten the sovereignty of Nigeria, saying that the government will not condone the culture of careless utterances capable of causing troubles in the country. Apparently reacting to the statements credited to General Babangida and former Vice-President Abubakar, on Wednesday, Jonathan declared: “we will not allow anybody to take this country for a ride.” Speaking during the decoration of newly promoted naval officers at the Nigerian Army Headquarters, in Asokoro, Abuja, on Thursday, Jonathan warned that he would not allow a situation where the improving image of Nigeria in the international community would be dragged through the mud. “I frown on people, especially politicians, who make statements challenging the sovereignty of this nation. Government will not take this lightly. We will no longer allow that kind of culture. We will not allow anybody to take this country for a ride,” he said. According to him, Nigeria’s rating in the international community should not be sabotaged at this time, when the nation was consolidating its leadership role in the African continent and the globe, adding that it was the military and the police that bore the brunt in a crisis. However, Atiku has rejected allegations of escalating tension over his widely reported comment on the consequences of resisting change. In a statement in Abuja, by his campaign organi-sation, the former vice-president said his comment at a stakeholders’ conference in Abuja, on Wednesday, was borne out of historical reality, when the late United States president, John F. Kennedy, warned against the consequences of making peaceful change impossible. He said the statement should be taken in its historical context, in terms of bitter experiences injustice had caused around the world. The presidential aspirant said he and his supporters would not be intimidated or deterred in the commitment to ensure that the PDP abided by its zoning arrangement, in line with its amended constitution. Atiku said accusing him of causing tension was like putting the saddle on the wrong horse, adding that no Nigerian leader, in recent memory, had caused so much bitterness, division, suspicions and animosity among Nigerians like President Jonathan had done because of his ambition to run in 2011. He wondered how a president that tore the PDP apart and caused so much bitterness within his own party because of his alleged ill-advised ambition could turn round and accuse anyone else of causing tension. Meanwhile, the Imo State House of Assembly, on Thursday, passed a resolution rejecting the candidature of Abubakar for the upcoming presidential primaries of the PDP. The all PDP-member state legislature also warned Igbo governors and other sons and daughters against accepting the vice presidential slot being dangled before them by the former vice-president. In the motion sponsored by Chief Declan Mbadiwe Emelumba of Oru West State constituency and Chief Bede Eke of Ngor Okpala state constituency, the House also resolved to reaffirm its support for President Goodluck Jonathan as candidate of the PDP in 2011. SSS warns on reckless comments The department of State Security Service (SSS) has warned presidential aspirants against making reckless and inflammatory statements in their quest to win elections. In a statement in Abuja, on Thursday, the SSS regretted that certain comments by some presidential aspirants had gone beyond politics and freedom of speech, as they bothered on security of the country. Apparently referring to comments credited to General Babangida and former Vice-President Abubakar at a stakeholders conference, on Wednesday, the SSS lamented that such comments posed grave national security problem. The statement, signed by the Assistant Director, Public Relations of the Service, Mrs Marilyn Ogar, said “for sometime now, the SSS has noted with grave concern the unguarded, reckless and divisive utterances of some prominent politicians. “The Service has also noted that these utterances, apart from being very inflammatory and extremely inciting, are of deep and grave national security concern. “We are, again, reminded that democracy is about dialogue, negotiation and compromise. However, a situation where some of those aspiring to rule this nation have resorted, through their utterances, to make the country ungovernable, or calling for a violent change, is very despicable and unacceptable to this service. This, to this service, is beyond politics.” http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/14923-2011-prepare-for-war-atiku-supporters-threaten-to-cancel-nigeria-were-ready-for-atiku-ibb-ex-militants-jonathan-spits-fire-im-not-intimidated-atiku-sss-warns-aspirants |

Nigeria ruling party governors back Jonathan in polls Thu Dec 16, 2010 7:46pm GMT ABUJA (Reuters) - Twenty of Nigeria's powerful state governors said Thursday they would support President Goodluck Jonathan as the ruling party candidate in elections next April, giving him a boost ahead of a tough battle in the primaries. The governors from the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) said in a joint statement after an emergency meeting in the capital Abuja that they would support Jonathan's candidacy for one four-year term of office. "Our constitution entitles our president to run for a second term, which the PDP governors support," said Ibrahim Shema, governor of the northern state of Katsina, reading from the statement co-signed by 19 of his colleagues. . . . The governors form an influential caucus in the PDP and their support is seen as key to Jonathan's chances of success. http://af.reuters.com/article/nigeriaNews/idAFLDE6BF28720101216 |

Atiku may be charged for treason * Nobody can threaten the sovereignty of Nigeria – President Abuja (WorldStage Newsonline)-- President Goodluck Jonathan has warned that government will not take lightly statements challenging the sovereignty of this nation. He spoke on Thursday during the decoration of newly promoted Naval officers at the Nigerian Army Headquarters Officers Mess in Asokoro, Abuja. The presidency is not taking lightly the recent statement of violent change credited to the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The presidency, sees the report attributed to the former Vice President that he would ensure a violent change in 2011 if President Goodluck Jonathan decided to contest the presidential election as treasonable. The presidency further viewed the comments as attempt by Atiku to commit treason for daring to attack the person of the President during a political talk shop in Abuja on Wednesday. Security sources said on Thursday the former Vice President may be charged for treason. According to a highly placed presidential source, the presidency noted that it was unfortunate that the former Vice President who should aware of how political power is managed could decide to attack a serving commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed forces. "You are aware that today the media was awash with the tempestuous tirade of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar against those he described as members of the executive arm of government. He issued a dire warning: "those that make peaceful change impossible, make violent change inevitable.” The source queried that "isn't it preposterous in the extreme for an Atiku to mount Franz Fanon's revolutionary rostrum, and talk about change?" Saying that "this glove just doesn't fit. "Having said that, it is necessary to remind the former Vice President that his remarks are treasonable, since they were overtly directed at the president, commander-in-chief, who is the head of the executive arm", the source further remarked. The source further said "as a former senior member of the executive, he certainly knows that the security agencies have taken copious note of his call for "violent change". The government remains vigilant, for these are desperate times" The source who does not want his name mentioned also noted that "it was obvious that Atiku would not take that misguided utterance if he was the sitting president. I think Atiku is going too far in his renewed political desperation. "Atiku's high sounding rhetoric would have been more meaningful if he was himself not leading member of ancient regime that the mass of the Nigerian people are determined to oust once and for all. "Atiku's dire missive should have come with a self addressed envelope. He and his likes are those who are determinedly resisting change, that essential breath of fresh air that President Jonathan represents to Nigerians." Speaking further on a similar tone at the decoration of the newly promoted Naval officers, President Jonathan declared that government will not condone the culture of careless and inciting utterances especially by politicians, stating that “we will not allow anybody to take this country for a ride. “I frown at people, especially politicians who make statements challenging the sovereignty of this nation. Government will not take this lightly. We will no longer allow that kind of culture. We will not allow anybody to take this country for a ride.” The president said Nigeria’s high rating in the international community should not be sabotaged at this time, when the nation is consolidating its leadership role in the African continent and the globe, pointing out that it is the military and the police that bear the brunt in a crisis. “I have been receiving calls from presidents all over the world because they believe that Nigeria can salvage the situation in Cote D’ivoire. That tells you how other countries rate Nigeria.” The president also commended the professionalism and discipline of the Nigerian army, which he said earned Nigeria an enviable standing in the international community. He therefore urged the military to maintain its good standing in the African continent and globally. He congratulated the newly promoted officers and called for more women participation in the nation’s armed forces saying, “I look forward to seeing more Nigerian women flying our fighter jets in the near future.” Story by Victor Iluyemi (info@worldstagegroup.com) http://www.worldstagegroup.com/worldstage/index.php?&id=1452&active=news |

Fierce firefight near HQ of Ivory Coast's Ouattara (AFP) – 37 minutes ago ABIDJAN — Former rebels loyal to would-be Ivorian leader Alassane Ouattara fought a fierce battle with troops backing his rival Laurent Gbagbo on Thursday, in an apparent bid to break a siege on their Abidjan base. A heavy exchange of fire erupted at around 11.30am (1130 GMT) and several explosions were heard in the area around the Golf Hotel, Ouattara's waterfront base in the Ivory Coast commercial capital. The former rebel fighters from the New Forces movement saw two of their number killed and one wounded in the fighting, Sindou Meite, a spokesman for the Ouattara shadow government told reporters at the hotel. They had been trying to force their way past a roadblock in order to clear a way for demonstrators to reach state television headquarters and seize control. Shooting subsided after around 90 minutes when Gbagbo's regular forces were reinforced. Soldiers armed with automatic weapons fanned out around the hotel and maintained control of a road block barring the road outside. Both Gbagbo and Ouattara claim to have won last month's presidential vote but, while the latter enjoys the backing of the international community, the incumbent still retains the loyalty of the armed forces. Ouattara and his choice for prime minister, the leader of the New Forces former rebel movement Guillaume Soro, are encamped at the Golf Hotel under the protection of United Nations peacekeepers. Soro, who has been declared prime minister in Ouattara's shadow government, said in a statement that "elements of his security team" had been ambushed by government forces as they set off on a scouting mission. The pair had called on supporters to march on the headquarters of pro-Gbagbo state television on Thursday, and rioting has erupted across Abidjan and crowds of demonstrators battle police and troops. Elsewhere in the city, journalists from AFP saw at least four protesters dead from gunshot wounds after gunfire rang out. http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hGyp1LkZKrY5qeBG1aRqFMfWnwzA?docId=CNG.62b51fb155b0191a5cf856dcb1fcaca7.791 |

Is President Jonathan your usual Nigerian politician? The obvious answer is no. The president is not a desperate power monger, as some of his opponents would want the public to believe. In the heady days of the Yar'Adua debacle when the nation tottered on the brink, had Jonathan been your usual politician, our circumstances as a nation may have been different today. He would have dissolved the Cabinet, instead he was loyal to his boss when he learnt that he was arriving even though nobody told him formally or put him in the picture. But he remained calm, not desperate to prove a point, but willing and ready to step up to the plate at the appointed time. And he did.Contrast that with this from the two most criminal aspirants, IBB and Atiku: Former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), and erstwhile Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, vowed that if Jonathan made peaceful transition impossible, he should be prepared for the inevitability of violent change.Go GEJ! You stand for deep and positive change. |
WikiLeaks, Jonathan and the others By Iheanacho Afam December 16, 2010 02:14AM Last week, WikiLeaks released cables about Nigeria. The information focussed on discussions between President Goodluck Jonathan and former U.S ambassador to Nigeria, Robin Sanders. Since the publication of the alleged conversations, many political opponents have tried to profit from the revelations, distorting and misinforming the public in order to score cheap political points. Some would want us to believe the cables have portrayed the president as not being equipped for the job. According to a statement credited to Garba Shehu, spokesperson for presidential candidate and former vice president Atiku Abubakar, "this expose has once again continued what we have always said, Jonathan is not a man to be trusted". But away with political opponents and let us face the real contents of the leaks and look at them intelligently. The leaked cables quoted Sanders quoting Jonathan as saying after her meeting with him on February 26, 2010, "I was not chosen to be vice president because I had good political experience, I did not. There were a lot more qualified people around to be vice president, but that does not mean I am not my own man." Some people would want us to believe this means President Jonathan cannot be trusted: what an irony. It is uncommon, for a Nigerian politician to admit that he is not the almighty and the omnipotent. In a society where people who are trusted with public office immediately turn themselves into deities to be worshipped, never to be questioned, it is rare that a Nigerian could admit that he is not the only qualified person to occupy a public position. Public office is not necessarily given to the most experienced, or the most educated, but to the man who is best able to bring about development, a man who embodies the two fundamentals of leadership as postulated by Steven R. Covey, the personal effectiveness guru: they are sense of service and knowledge. President Obama had little public administration experience when he decided to run for the highest office in the country. But the American people followed him because they saw in him a man willing to admit his limitations and thus willing to learn. They also saw he had the passion and the will to serve. Leadership is not self-centred behaviour, but others centred behaviour. How many Nigerians can resist the temptation to trumpet their own credentials and exaggerate their achievements in order to impress? According to the revelations Jonathan allegedly, also said he had intended to dissolve the Cabinet early in the week of February 22, and had planned to make that announcement at the February 24 FEC meeting but found out that Yar'Adua was returning and this dissuaded him from acting. He said the last Cabinet meeting was disastrous, included yelling and screaming, and was totally dysfunctional. Sanders reported that Jonathan said he is ‘not a politician' and had very limited experience as an administrator, but concluded, "I will not tolerate a brawl." Is President Jonathan your usual Nigerian politician? The obvious answer is no. The president is not a desperate power monger, as some of his opponents would want the public to believe. In the heady days of the Yar'Adua debacle when the nation tottered on the brink, had Jonathan been your usual politician, our circumstances as a nation may have been different today. He would have dissolved the Cabinet, instead he was loyal to his boss when he learnt that he was arriving even though nobody told him formally or put him in the picture. But he remained calm, not desperate to prove a point, but willing and ready to step up to the plate at the appointed time. And he did. Nigerians should be optimistic about the prospects of President Jonathan. He has the right frame of mind to determine that electoral reforms are germane to Nigeria's development. Sanders said: "His sole focus is to leave a legacy of both electoral reforms and credible elections, including changing the entire Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)." The question we should ask is what can be revealed in leaked cables regarding other politicians in Nigeria especially the ones aspiring to become President in 2011? There is no need to wait for WikiLeaks to do that for us. A number of such names are synonymous with corruption. That is not the case with President Jonathan. The leaks have shown him to be humble, truthful, sincere and patriotic. These may not be the best attributes for a politician in these climes but they are the attributes Nigeria needs at this time. Jonathan is a transforming leader not a transactional leader like those who have paraded the corridors of power for too long. Read the final verdict from Sanders: "We believe the US government is firmly placed to advance our bilateral agenda, including the creation of enabling environment conducive to free, fair and credible elections with the approval and assistance of Nigeria's de facto head of state. Even if he decides to contest for the presidency, Jonathan seems sincere in wanting to leave a lasting legacy of electoral reform for Africa's most populous nation."
