@Kobojunkie,

This will be my last post on this matter. You seem to be particular about my visit to Wet n Wild. You asked about it and I told you to show that I am not ignorant of the place.

When I visited Wet n Wild, some of the rides were put out of service as a result of heavy rain and wind storm. These are mishaps that will not be shown to potential visitors. These are realities of business.

You may hate Nigeria and think that nothing good will happen there. Well, you must be aware that somebody made USA great, somebody made sacrifice for great things to happen there. Nigeria will be great and I am prepared to make my little sacrifices for great things to happen.

@Walata44
Thanks for the sacrifice you have made in posting the link to the pictures. Many people will become aware of Tinapa through your effort. Your effort in posting those links to the photographs may look small but the impact is bigger than you can imagine. Your effort will collaborate with the effort of others and that is how change happen.

I am working within my small corner and collaborating with other like-minded people to make Nigeria great and it will happen. When it does, we will all reap the reward.

Greetings to you all.

@Kobojunkie,

Wet n Wild was not created today. In fact, it has been around for a long time and it is continously being redeveloped by Disney. You should understand the principles of business now.

Also, the photographs you saw about Tinapa are not the best you could produce. The photographs were not doctored for marketing purpose. On the other hand, the Wet n Wild facility in Orlando is nothing like the promotional photographs published about it. Certainly, Wet n Wild is not like the animated graphics on its web pages.

Tinapa is good and presentable in its current form. I expect that it will grow over time to a better and brighter resort.

@zomby,

There is nothing wrong with pushing the FG to recognise private sector involvement in power generation. This is not relevant to the Tinapa project because Tinapa is only one project from one state in the whole country. Rome was not built in one day.

Power supply on its own is of no value. People will need to utilise the power supply to their own advantage to make it useful to the people.

Tinapa is only one of so many possibilities. Tinapa project is a state project and it did not stop the other projects of the FG. Corruption hampered some other projects of the FG but we must not remain in the same position about tales of corruption.

Therefore, we must market the Tinapa project for everyone to know about it so that it will grow bigger than the initial dream. The bigger and more popular it is, the more staffs it will employ to provide support for visitors.

There will be many more projects in other states, not just Tinapa. In the meantime, we should shout loud about Tinapa so that foreigners and other people will come and patronise the place.

Let us plough together for better days ahead in our country.
BusinessRe: Lovely Pictures Of Tinapa Water Park. by beknown(m): 2:31pm On Sep 17, 2009
@zomby,

I totally understand your position. However, remember that if people have no jobs, there is no amount of money you will spend on security, it will fail.

Many people are stealing because they have nothing to do. Graduates are getting into crime because there are no jobs.

Tinapa Resort can create jobs and if it is managed properly, Tinapa will be a household name in UK and USA.

Power Supply in Nigeria has become a tail of gross incompetence and high corruption. Let us be truthful about power supply in Nigeria. Generator suppliers want to continue to make money - they sabotage power supply plans.

Everybody who is engaged in any form of corruption in Nigeria is guilty of causing power supply problem in the country. How can you eat your cake and still have it?

Local people and community associations have failed to take simple initiative to generate power for themselves.

Solar energy will be the best option for Nigeria because we are never short of the sun. What a good resource we have in the sun? Unfortunately, many people are not harnessing the full potential of the sun to our advantage.

Check the price of solar equipment (solar chargers, solar pool heating, solar lighting, solar panels, etc) and you will be surprise how cheap it is to have a simple solar installation in one house.

All,

Please let us begin to appreciate good things in Nigeria. If we do not appreciate good things in Nigeria, no foreigner will appreciate it for us.

The photographs are very good and compares with Wet n Wild resort in Orlando, Florida, USA. Similar facilities are also in the UK, Netherland, France, Germany and many more.

Example links are:

French Theme Park in France (outside Paris):
http://www.puydufou.com/uk/

Wet 'n Wild Orlando resort, Florida, USA:
http://www.wetnwildorlando.com/

Denmark (Bonbon land, Tivoli Gardens, etc):
http://www.bonbonland.dk/
http://www.tivoli.dk/composite-3351.htm

Nigeria (Tinapa Resort):
http://tinapa.com.ng/

The advantages of Tinapa are:
1. It will encourage people to visit Nigeria and spend plenty of money. The money they spend is foreign exchange which will help Nigerian economy.
2. Local people will find jobs in Tinapa and the hotels near the resort.
3. New businesses will take advantage of Tinapa visitors to sell tourist goods and services
4. Foreigners will use Tinapa resort as a way to know Nigeria better and come to invest in our businesses
5. Foreigners will take Nigeria serious in development potential
6. Nigerians abroad will see the need to return home to stay for good
7. etc etc

Tinapa is a good investment in Nigeria. Everybody should begin to appreciate it. Advertise it all over the web for everybody to see. Let us create opportunity for visitors to come to Nigeria.

Send the Tinapa web address to all your friends abroad: http://tinapa.com.ng/
EducationRe: The Best Business Schools In The World by beknown(m): 11:02am On Sep 17, 2009
Poster and contributors

Let us not get carried away by the names of business schools around the world. The rankings of these business schools are not consistent, in fact, it depends on the rankings you are looking at. Different countries tend to have different rankings in the business school provision.

The global financial crisis originated from USA, Wall Street to be precise. There is a difference between qualification and competence. Let us not believe that the quality we need in a business school can only be found in so called top business schools. I am talking from my personal work and academic experience all over the world.

Some business schools are unnecessarily overpriced. This does not equate to quality education. Many old business schools are capitalising on their old age. MIT and Harvard are old schools but that does not make them the best in quality delivery and quality students.

The only problem in Nigeria is that quality education is hampered by:
1. lack of funding
2. lack of good technology development
3. lack of enabling environment for excellence
4. lack of skilled lecturers to deliver sound lectures
5. corruption associated with exam malpractices, bribery, etc

Quality education can be available anywhere in the world. Harvard MBA, MIT, etc are only a few local examples in the USA - in fact, there are many more excellent business schools in USA. In other countries, there are quality business schools too. In France, there is INSEAD and many more. In the UK, there are Leicester MBA, Oxford MBA, Cambridge, London Business School, Imperial College and many more. The fact is that any approved university will deliver quality education and quality students because they are consistently being monitored for quality assurance.

Nigerians are excelling abroad greatly. Although many Nigerians are not duely recognised and rewarded for their competence abroad, many of them are at the height of their career ladder.

Let us celebrate our own while we can.

@proudly9ja,

I share your drive. The limitation we have is the power on the ground in Nigeria. We can produce this proposal to the highest standard and present it in various forms including making it available on request.

However, the fact remains that the leadership in Nigeria need to implement it. The implementation of the idea is the challenge we face. I do not work in Nigeria government and I do not have anyone at the top in Nigeria to make anything happen quickly.

My suggestion here is to put this material in proper documentation with excellent presentation and deliver it to the President using DHL. Whether the President takes it seriously or not, at least, we would have done our part to making Nigeria great for everyone of us.

It will not happen without any action.

@proudly9ja and other well-meaning contributors,

I have read through the contributions here and I am confident that if the FG should implement this:
1. There will be less road accidents
2. There will be better development in Agriculture and related businesses
3. There will be better development in logistics, transportation and related businesses
4. There will be job creation in various areas of the country
5. People will be able to start small businesses in villages to decongest the cities
6. Free flow of goods, services and people from different parts of the country to another
7. There will be no rush to live and do business in central Lagos or central Abuja
8. Businesses (local, national and international) will be able to expand to every part of the country
9. etc etc

I am very surprised that many Nigerian home owners at home have no initiative for helping themselves in terms of providing local facilities like roads, water, drainage, electricity and security. Each and every person tend to be looking for solution by themselves and for themselves.

I can remember my driving experience in Florida. Although it was my first time, I rented and car and drove as soon as I landed at the Sanford International Airport. The driving was smooth and exactly as I was used to in London. The Florida Highway is like the London Motorway and the German Autobahn.

If Nigeria can develop the same concept of good road development, then we will meet the Vision 20:2020. Without good roads everywhere in the country, there will be no uniform and decent development and there will be no Vision 20:2020.

It is inadequate to construct roads in Lagos and Abuja. There is more to Nigeria than just two states. The other states have so much potential but unharnessed.

Thanks to the initiator of this topic and other well-meaning contributors. God bless you all.

And all over the world, it's the general norm that the "rich man" always wins

This statement is not true. Poor people in other countries do get justice in the court of law without wasting any time. There is law in Nigeria but there are no structures to make it work.

In the UK and USA, the courts are very efficient and court representation is not about riches. The guilty one will be punished by the law - nomistake about it.

In the UK now, it is now possible to summon anybody through the internet court. Go to the following link for the UK internet court:

This is the evidence of lawlessness in Nigeria among our leaders. If our leaders do not follow the simple principles of the rule of law I wonder what common man will do.

Hon. Chinyere Emmanuel Igwe does not deserve the position he occupies. Neither does ne deserve the awards and good names associated with him.  For this single act of disrespect and foolishness, he deserve reprimand from the highest authority.

In the UK, he will be committing a criminal offence that could lead to jail such as:
Assault,
Battery,
GBH (Grievious Bodily Harm),
ABH (Actual Bodily Harm),
etc

The poor Security Man would have collected a few million Naira of real cash through court summon of Hon. Igwe.

Imagine the type of people we have in the National Assembly.

This is the reason why our leaders have made laws in Nigeria to become toothless.

Rome was not built in a day. Neither was it built by one man.

Nigerians should learn to appreciate good things.

Soludo did a good job before he left. Sanusi cannot be a copy of Soludo. There are differences in human reasoning and ideas.

The fact that Sanusi took the decision he took is in no way relevant to the tenure of Soludo.

Soludo did his best and left. We also expect Sanusi to do his best. Soludo and Sanusi are not in competition.

If everyone in Nigeria will put in their best in any work they are doing, Nigeria will be a better place for all of us. And there will be no need for our best Nigerian brains to serve the foreign countries they now call home.

Notice that I have modified the formating code for the worksheet in the ProcessExcel procedure. The change is shown in bold:

'Format worksheet
With xlWs
.PageSetup.RightHeader = i_dgdResult.Caption
.Select
.Columns.BorderAround
.Columns.AutoFit
End With

Also, you can change RightHeader to LeftHeader or CenterHeader depending on where you want the header to appear in your printout.

And there are more formatting for the worksheet footer below if you are interested, following the same style for header above:
.LeftFooter = "Text Here"
.CenterFooter = "Text Here"
.RightFooter = "Text Here"
ProgrammingRe: Post Ur Vb 6.0 Questions Here by beknown(m): 8:45am On Aug 04, 2009
madas,

The call to ProcessExcel procedure expects two arguments - Datagrid and String.

The datagrid must contain real data for export to Microsoft Excel. It is not enough to have an empty datagrid and a command button on the client screen.

The following validation code is modified:

'Validate datagrid
If i_dgdResult Is Nothing Then
i_strError = "Empty datagrid."
Exit Sub
ElseIf i_dgdResult.ApproxCount = 0 Then
i_strError = "No records for export."
Exit Sub
End If

To run the code successfully, the datagrid must contain real data. If you still have a problem with this, please feedback here.

I will recommend VB.Net or C#.

The programming environment for VB.Net or C# can help you to develop from beginner to advanced if you show seriousness.

When learning a programming language, try to know one language first before engaging yourself with another language.

As a beginner, try to avoid learning two programming languages at the same time. You may become confused.
ProgrammingRe: Please, How Can I Get Very Good At Programming Very Fast by beknown(m): 4:04pm On Jul 31, 2009
Practice more and give yourself a small real project to implement. For example: Implement a Decision Support System for any company of your choice.

After going through any book or eBook, put your theory into practice by giving yourself a project to implement.

During implementation of your small project, you will see complex tasks and that will make you want to know how to solve more complex problems. You may find that your current book may not cover some serious problem topic, then check the web and other books. Do not give up because that is what makes a Programming Pro.

Do not be totally dependent on the Book or eBook. Try to work outside the book and use your little creativity from beginning. Be ready to try real and serious codes. Make sure you do not try complex code within a company live environment so that you do not do any damage.

You will be surprised at your capability in a short while.

When you create a System DSN for your database, any name you gave it is available for you to use in your Visual Basic code.

bigafees,

You need to use the MS Access query to set your criteria.

If you give me the names of the fields in the table, I will help you design a query with the criteria for retrieving the total values.

You can also do the same using SQL. For example:

Example 1:
SELECT MoneyValue
FROM MoneyTable
WHERE MoneyID is not NULL

Example 2:
SELECT SUM(MoneyValue) As MyTotal
FROM MoneyTable
WHERE MoneyID is not NULL

Example 2 is similar to SUM function in MS Excel.

To link VB6.0 to SQL Server, use System DSN in Windows Control Panel. I have put some code together for you incorporating the System DSN called SureOne.

For this code to work, don't forget to create a System DSN called SureOne, If you need help, please ask.

There will be challenges in any marriage. However, the ability to deal with any challenge is a virtue to be cherished.

Divorce, as in many developed countries, is not the best virtue to be cherished.

Each challenge does to equate to an opportunity to seek divorce.

It takes a well-cultured Nigerian woman who values their upbringing and family life to make a difference when challenges come.

The standard of a true Nigerian woman is very high and cherished. I learnt about a true Nigerian woman from my own mother - a true Nigerian woman indeed.

For example, in Nigeria, DIVORCE was a vocabulary found in big dictionary until recently. That shows that the standard of marriage is turning sour.

The fact remains that all over the world, a true, uncompromised and unadulterated Nigerian woman is the best choice to choose from.

A true Nigerian woman is born and brought up in the culture of Nigeria with all the characteristics of the Nigerian society.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria - A Failed State Or Failing State by beknown(m): 1:51pm On Jul 27, 2009
I think from all analysis, Nigeria qualifies to be called a failed state.

As a failed state, it does not mean it cannot become a better country but the time and resources required for it to attain betterment is huge but quantifiable.

Above all, the attitude of Nigerians and their leaders must change for any betterment to be recorded.
