TravelRe: Cheap Tickets To Nigeria by beknown(m): 1:43pm On Dec 03, 2009
I am very surprise that flight tickets to Nigeria have become too expensive.

I checked a ticket to Lagos from London - the cheapest I saw was Afriqiyah for indirect journey through Tripoli (12 Feb 2010 to 19 Feb 2010).

Who has any idea of direct flights from London to Lagos at a reasonable price?
PoliticsRe: Lagos Citizens To Have State Identity Card In 2010 - Fashola by beknown(m): 6:31pm On Nov 24, 2009
Is an ID card for Lagos residents necessary?
It would not have been necessary if the National ID card actually fulfilled the purpose.

Possible reasons why Fashola is introducing ID card in Lagos State:
-- He is tired and frustrated with the National ID card as he has no control over it.
-- He need the information desperately to be able to know who is who in Lagos.
-- He want to be able to recover money (tax or charges) from residents easily.
-- He want to know where you live to help check crime.
-- He want to be able to direct state support where it is needed.

Good idea.

Let everybody support it - One ID card per person.

Lagosians abroad may not qualify as residents unless they visit Lagos regularly, reside there or they have a house there. Lagosians who only visit Lagos for Christmas and other festivities is not really a resident.

FamilyRe: Man Beats Wife Over Failure To Have Male Child by beknown(m): 2:56pm On Nov 24, 2009
Let us not try to compare between a woman and man because both genders are totally different.

God created them different and with unique characteristics.

In normal circumstances, a woman cannot become a man. Also, a man cannot become a woman. Let's respect nature.
RomanceRe: Does An Expensive Ring Signify Love by beknown(m): 2:42pm On Nov 24, 2009
Remember that expensive ring does not mean that the guy is rich.

It is possible that he bought the expensive ring to show off his ego and win the girl by all means. But he may not be rich. In fact, he may not be able to pay his rent afterwards.

He can go any length to make the girl financially satisfied. Happy is a different matter. Financial satisfaction does not signify happiness.

No.

Expensive ring means nothing compared to real love.
TravelRe: How Expensive Is Nigeria At Present? by beknown(m): 2:12pm On Nov 23, 2009
@Poster,

You have got many good advice here.

As you can see from all the advice here, Nigeria can be cheap or expensive depending how you make it.

Note:
--Do not show off to anybody and your money will last. You may even have extra.
--Wear the same type of clothes local people wear in Nigeria, no need for padded jacket and others.
--Some relatives will give you cock and bull stories about money needs, don't be fooled.
--Do not be surprise that everyone of your relatives suddenly become needy, even your uncle who has more than five houses and six cars.
--Don't be shy to negotiate and haggle prices, aim for bargain in anything you buy in Nigeria.

Enjoy your stay. Be wise.
PoliticsFg To Make Ph.d Minimum Qualification For Academic Staff by beknown(op): 11:44am On Nov 23, 2009
Nigerian Tribune News:

FG to make Ph.D minimum qualification for academic staff
Uchechukwu Olisah, Benin City - 23.11.2009

THE Federal Government has said plans are underway to make doctorate degree the minimum qualification for any academic staff in tertiary institutions in the country.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Sam Egwu, made this known at the 17th convocation ceremony of the Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, on Saturday, adding that technical education would be required to provide technical manpower to drive the process.

He said part of efforts to achieve the goal was an agreement the Federal Government, through the Education Trust Fund (ETF), entered with the International Science Fund for the provision of laboratories and technical equipment in tertiary institutions in the country.

Egwu, who was represented by a permanent secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, Professor Oladapo Afolabi, said the education sector was undergoing repositioning to enable it to meet its roles in the country, adding that one of the steps taken to realise the repositioning was the adoption of a road map for the education sector.

“We are embarking on a critical staff upgrade to ensure that academic staff in our tertiary institutions have a minimum of doctorate degree,” the minister said.

Besides, Dr. Egwu spoke of the need for all tutors in tertiary institutions to be computer literate, adding that “as it stands today, no staff of a tertiary institution will be relevant in future if such is not computer literate.

“The Federal Ministry of Education is, in fact, considering putting a deadline by which all staff of tertiary institutions must show ability to use the computer.”

He lamented that substantial amount of money voted for research annually by the ministry was not being accessed for undisclosed reasons and directed that such annual grants be brought to the attention of relevant staff.

Dr. Egwu promised that the government would implement all agreements reached with the unions.
My people what do you think about this? Does a PhD degree for academic staffs provide the needed equipment in tertiary institutions? Why does our political leaders in Nigeria lack any understanding of simple solutions? What use is a PhD degree holder without computer literacy of the modern day?
FamilyRe: : Had Surgery To Prevent Pregnancy - Now Couple Wants More Kids: by beknown(m): 2:28pm On Nov 19, 2009
The UK has private clinics where vasectomy can be reversed for £1500 to £3000. See the following links:

http://www.privatehealth.co.uk/hospitaltreatment/find-a-treatment/infertility-treatment/vasectomy-reversal/

It is free in the UK if done through the local National Health Service (NHS).

The cost in other countries are in the following link:

FamilyRe: : Had Surgery To Prevent Pregnancy - Now Couple Wants More Kids: by beknown(m): 2:11pm On Nov 19, 2009
The options A, B and C have negative connotation for the future. It will be unreasonable to introduce another mistake in the process of solving the first mistake.

Any good solution will cost money, there is no doubt about that.

The location of this couple will determine the solution to their current problem.

If these couple are in USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and other developed countries, they should see a Doctor to reverse the procedure. The expense is not a big one in any of these countries. In fact, in the UK, it can be reversed freely through the NHS (National Health Service). In the USA and Canada, check with health insurance provider. Its free in Europe countries for citizens following local treatment channels.

If this couple is in Nigeria, I am very limited in my recommendation. However, experts in Hungary and India provides surgical operation to that effect.

I will strongly recommend a reverse operation for the vasectomy as the best solution for the present and future reality.

If you tell me the location of the couple, I will help to investigate a good hospital for the procedure.
Car TalkRe: Brand New Kia Cerato Vs Used Japanese by beknown(m): 1:34pm On Nov 19, 2009
I will recommend used Japanese car against new Kia, any time and any day.

A new Kia may look good from first day, it cannot resist stress and will breakdown quickly. Constant long journeys kills Kia quicker.

A Japanese car (Toyota, Honda, Mazda, etc) of less than 8 years old will still perform well and resist any stress. It is reliable for constant long journeys.
RomanceRe: What Kind Of Gift Can U Give A Guy? by beknown(m): 1:23pm On Nov 19, 2009
Nice perfume is a very good option. Nice perfume is romantic, high class, superiority.

I don't believe that people who like perfume have body odours, stop being naive.

I think gifts like: socks and boxer shorts are too much in use.

I will suggest you break out of the norm to show some element of surprise.
RomanceRe: My Fiancee Is Hiv Positive, I Love Her And Still Want To Go On With The Marriage by beknown(m): 12:48pm On Nov 19, 2009
@me_alone,

It is good to pray to God at this time of your uncertainty. However, you must be wise.

My brother, faith without work is dead. I admire your faith in God but your words suggest that you have not applied enough work (action) to the situation.

As a starter, the free test lab is useless. Many people in that church are being misdiagnosed. You and your fiancee should go to another reputable lab for the same test. As you are in Nigeria, if you can afford it, I will suggest two reputable labs for the same test to get a reasonable professional opinion of the HIV status.

When you are satisfied that both test are negative for both of you, you can then have a rest and get prepared for your wedding as soon as possible.

I must warn you, May 2010 for your wedding is a long time Oh!

I hope it is not just words. Words without adequate funding is worse than useless.
FamilyRe: My Wife Packed Out Of My House by beknown(m): 1:15pm On Nov 18, 2009
@Wale_Ade,

There is no need to cry over spilt milk. The matter is out of your hands. Do not consider her to be your wife any more. She does not love you for who you are.

The reality is that I think there is another man.

Pick up your life and move on.

If you force her to come back to your house, you could be in danger.
TravelRe: Nigerians! How Far Will We Go! Man Marries Daughter So She Can Get A Visa! by beknown(m): 1:03pm On Nov 18, 2009
The man made a mistake.

He is entitled to bring his daughter into the UK after 30 years. He approached the matter wrongly.

I think he got the wrong advice.

People should learn to seek good advice before embarking on delicate matters of immigration. In the UK, there are qualified lawyers and unqualified self-proclaimed-lawyers. Avoid self-proclaimed-lawyers in the UK.
FamilyRe: Would You Quit Your Job If Hubby Insists? by beknown(m): 5:13pm On Nov 17, 2009
People,

There is no need to use words like 'independent' when you are in a good marriage relationship. Please note the following:
A good marriage will stand the test of time
A good partner will be considerate of the other partner
Marriage is not a competition between a wife and her husband
A wife is the helper of her husband
If both partners shall agree, issues will be resolved without misunderstanding
Children are blessings in any marriage, they are heritage from God
Husband and wife have responsibility to their children
Husband has responsibility to look after his wife and children

I have seen men who help their wives to start a business while they seek white collar employment. The business belongs to the family, not just his wife's business independently. The business helped the family to be flexible and provided extra support financially. Sometimes, the wife is not able to be at her business premises all day but she has paid helpers.

The whole issue is centred on a true marriage relationship. No dictionary can predict all the possible occurances that would happen during the course of the marriage. True marriage will stand the test of time.

No partner should talk about independence in a marriage relationship. However, single and divorced people can talk about independence.

Why must Nigerians copy everything in the western world?
CultureRe: Why do Nigerian Women Bear Their Father's Name, After Marriage? by beknown(m): 1:45pm On Nov 17, 2009
People should begin to face the reality of today.

Women who choose to adopt their father's name rather than their husband's name after marriage are not really ready for a true marriage for life.

The modern day ideas has some advantages and disadvantages. Let us adopt the good ideas of our past too because they could be the best.

The reason why a wife should answer her father's name after marriage centres on selfishness, except her husband fully agrees.

Hyphenation of surnames after marriage is a western concept, not African and definitely not Nigerian. Let us be careful what we import into Nigeria. It is not all western concept and idealogy that are good, some are terrible, selfish, self-centred and self-serving.
CultureRe: Why do Nigerian Women Bear Their Father's Name, After Marriage? by beknown(m): 1:29pm On Nov 17, 2009
That is because the man agreed and allowed it.

Generally, women bear their husband's name after marriage. However, some men do not mind for their wife to answer any name of her choice. I hope it is not for selfish reason.

I think it is better for a uniform name for the whole family - wife, husband and children. If the wife answer a different name from her husband, what name will their children answer?

People should use common sense in these things rather than introduce confusion unnecessarily.

Just be happy together.

You could tell her gently that you can resume that at home.

PoliticsRe: Uniben Staff And Students Reject Ibori As Convocation Speaker by beknown(m): 2:28pm On Nov 16, 2009
This is the type of humiliation that Nigerians should put on people like Ibori. If Nigerians put shame on Ibori and his cohorts in public, it will send a good message to him and his friends.

We do not need physical fight to get good result in eradicating corruption in Nigeria. Let us expose the shame of the fools who loot our money in Nigeria. Let us put shame on them.

No hiding place for thieves
No award for thieves
No respect for thieves
No chieftaincy title for thieves
No political position for thieves
No praise for thieves

This is the advantage of togetherness. Let us act together to eradicate corruption in our own country. Together, we can do it.
EducationRe: Dumped Because She Had A 3rd Class by beknown(m): 10:33am On Nov 15, 2009
The guy has taken a very harsh step. However, it will be difficult to make an informed judgment if we do not have the full story.

As we all know in the modern world, to whom much is given, much is expected. In Nigeria, education is like an investment in the future.

The guy may have invested a lot of money to see her through studies after many chaotic situations and sacrifice. The guy may have risked his own comfort to see her through university. The guy may have foregone his own education or other ventures for the purpose of supporting her through studies.

A guy who has been loyal to her since two years suddenly changed. Something caused the change.

Let us not be quick to judge because we do not have the full story.
PoliticsRe: Nigerians Abroad Remit $10bn Home In 2009 - World Bank by beknown(m): 2:10pm On Nov 13, 2009
My people, our brothers and sisters in the diaspora do well.

Many people do not know the big advantage we get from this money from abroad.

First, the money is sent to a friend or family in Nigeria
Second, the money is used to buy food or other things in the market
Third, market trader will be able to get money to pay school fees, look after their family, etc
Fourth, market trader pay tax for the store and government get money
Fifth, our economy get bigger and bigger
etc etc.

Let everybody pray for our people abroad, life is hard for them too.

Our people abroad have plenty investment in Nigeria (not just food!). For example, property investment in Lagos, Abuja, etc.

Food is very important. If people do not eat over a long period of time, there will be starvation and malnutrition.

Property prices in Peckham, London is getting better. Nigerians who own houses in Peckham and other parts of London are smiling.

In fact, some of the houses you see in VGC, VI, Lekki, etc belong to some of the people who live happily in Peckham, London.
