That's why she did the right thing.

Right from your end but not the best for her.

She realized her error but it's late. She has to cope with the consequence. Never take action out of anger.

What if she couldn't escape and he killed her?

Then she couldn't have been able to get to the police station. Her escape is what led her to the station

Again, Stop fooling yourself! The moment you tailor the counseling to suit your religious/traditional idea, it ceases to be professional and becomes religious hogwash! undecided

I bet your kind would not be happy if you found yourself sitting down to be counseled by a so-called professional who had no problems introducing ideas from his own religion — say Islam or traditional beliefs— into each session. But here you pretend it is all good to do so if the so-called professional claimed to be of Christian leanings. Nonsense! undecided

But it is life threatening, what if he killed her in the process of beating her up?

She must have escaped to be able to report to the police. So, he obviously didn't kill her in the process of beating her up.

She didn't act with a clear mind. No one from her family with support her for taking the arrest option.

You don't know anything about counselling and you are arguing on a mountain of assumption.
One of a characteristic of a wise person is ability to learn and take corrections. Also tone down on how you throw vulgar words around. Engage smartly boy

That's because the people don't like taking responsibility for their actions and they're too prideful.

Yes but you see, the way Nigerian police system is...when you happen to sleep in a cell for two days, it could aggravate your anger towards the one who got you arrested especially when it's a family member. Honestly, it was a wrong call by the woman.

The Nigerian system doesn't support this kind of style

Read up on counselling. A professional counsellor can tailor counselling to the patient's faith if necessary to achieve required objective.

His statement didn't indicate the counsellor isn't a professional. He only mentioned the word 'christian' cos some professional counsellors do introduce faith-based standpoint in the midst of the counselling to buttress their points

What is unlawful is unlawful, it doesn't matter whether you're married or not.

I once got my sister arrested for laying her hands on me because I told her the bitter truth.

And I didn't do it because I hated her or something like that, I don't believe in using violence to solve minor issues... In fact, I hate unnecessary violence.. She later acknowledged her mistakes and apologized to me and we're now good sisters.

The husband also needs to acknowledge his mistakes and apologise to his wife, he should also help with house chores since the wife is the one going out there and bringing in money into the house so as to cover his shame.

Some women would've left him long time ago, but this woman stood by him for the past two years and even now she's still standing by his side.

In Nigeria, when you arrest a family member or neighbour, most times that relationship is gone.
It never remains same

I got married to a Fulani girl from sokoto state against the wish of my parents as a Yoruba boy. Today they were forced to accept her because I wasn't ready to back down. I was convinced I made the right choice because I dated this lady for two years. I know what I want and no man can dictate to me how to live my own life since it won't disturb yours.

Like I said earlier, I married my wife against the wish of my family. Today she is the mother of two lovely boys aged 7 and 4. It's 8 years of God's faithfulness in our marriage and it's still like we met yesterday.

Yoruba-fulani marriage no common, hence their fear. What was the response of her own parents?

Imagine some directors may be in their thirties and being forced to retire because of this rule. Also Permanent secrtaries would no longer be permanent if given a 4 year tenure (renewable for additional term) At this pint they would be little more than political appointments.

Meanwhile Tinubu who is pushing this rule is over 70 years old

Haba...how can a Director in civil service in Nigeria be in his/ her 30's?

That means the fellow got there in his twenties or early 30....then when did the fellow start work?

For anyone to become Director, nothing less than 18-25 years must have been put in.

That's not possible. The good locations are close to the island where those jobs of 800K+ exist. Yaba, Ikeja, Surulere, Ajah have extremely few two bedrooms apartments with rent of 1.6M. Most people earning such don marry and have at least a child.

Let's be honest with ourselves.

Some jobs allow hybrid or remote so it's better to live in areas where you spend less on housing...

Only option now. I wlcm it with all my heart.

Imagine someone with 1000 USD in Nashville/ turning Millionaire in Zungeru due to Mal parity. If the west can manipulate us to turn our old currency to yoyo, we too must be wise to manipulate it back to the 1970s era where 1Usd = 60k or N 0.60

Lool it doesn't work that way. If you like redoniminate 1dollar to 50 kobo....if you don't address the root cause(s) of our naira instability, the redenomination will only make things worse

Absolutely, there is no way we can survive with out redenomination of naira. Once naira close the maximum threshold of #1000 per a dollar we can remove a zero . Making 100 naira equal to $1. As of 2013 rate.

So what would that do for the Economy?

Ofcourse, it is possible, but when a speaker differs on a particular thought from the other speaker, it makes it even more interesting for those who went there to learn. For me, I go for tech workshops and enjoy every speaker.

The reason you enjoy a different line of thought is because you have a solid knowledge base in the field. For a newbie, the opposite will be the case

A one-day seminar on a topic is mostly general and a summary of the subject, and can never be a substitute for what can take a month or years to cover in detail. Those one-day seminars are mostly crash courses, and it will be very unreasonable for attendees to think they can absorb a month or year's worth of knowledge in one day.... Indepth knowledge is foundational, having to be built from the ground up...thats not something that can be gotten via a crash one-day seminar...

An example are those one-day ADR seminars I used to attend as an undergrad.. After every every, dem go us us certificate of attendance, which didn't by any means make us mediators or arbitrators.. When I finally desired to become a Chartered Arbitrator, I had to go the full hog.. And it wasn't a day or even a month's work.

Apt. Very sound submission sir
Events / Re: Rationale Behind Many Speakers At A Single Day Event? by BennyDGreat: 1:17pm On Aug 19, 2023

No... The attendees are in a better position to determine the relevancies that they want to absorb..

Even in class lectures, not everything said by the lecturer is important for the subject being taught....knowing this is mainly what separates the 1st class students from the averages who expend their energy trying to catch even the lecturer's cough and stale jokes.

Well you are right about the attendees determining what's relevant and absorbable.

However, assuming the speakers are to talk specifically on something within a context and because of their knowledge depth begin to touch areas the attendees may find difficult to capture within that short time, it may leave their minds blown but can you really say such attendees got something they can work on, knowing there's too much to cover...

Well, it's not as common as you think or portray. In fact, it might be that you're exaggerating.

Personally, from my experience, I hold the opinion that in most standard academic setting, considering goes into a lot of things before they are played out. For instance, at Unilorin, they organized induction ceremony for their medical students late last month. The program started around 10 and ended before 1 - an occasion that attracted many academic elite far and wide. Another instance, inaugural lecture only starts around 5pm and end before 7pm here. This is another vital occasion that puts the elites together. Convocation doesn't take so long too. I expect this to be the modus operandi g

I think many people exaggerate things that attempt to put universities, especially public, in a bad light. Well, my experience so far takes a diverted outlook to that.

You are speaking in another context.

I was referring to events organised by an individual or an organisation while using a case study of the event within the university community.

It had more than 10 folks coming to speak.
Those inductions, convocations are school programs.

It's the same reason why music show organizers bring as many artists as possible to their events..of course there is always a star artist, just as there is a key speaker in those events with the others being supporting strikers grin

They advertised the personalities they intend to bring to the event, and interested participants having seen the number and identity of the personalities, pay for these events...and these participants mostly attend to hear their favorite guest speak or even see him/her physically.. Then they zone out when other guests take the podium. grin

It's not for the op to determine what is "information overload" for people who get what they paid for in an event they voluntarily attended.

Besides, considering that these events are mostly fully video recorded, with the videos and conference materials mde available to participants who want them, the participants have the chance to later watch and assimilate the videos and materials at their own speed and convenience.

In the case of not having access to recording...don't you think the purpose of the conference has been defeated since they couldn't really absorb specifics from the live event?
Events / Re: Rationale Behind Many Speakers At A Single Day Event? by BennyDGreat: 12:55pm On Aug 19, 2023
harsysky:
The rationale is that if one of the speakers doesn't appeal to the audience, others will. That's why after the workshop, different folks line up to the speakers they love.

Don't you think too many speakers can leave the audience more confused especially when two of the speakers have different thoughts on an issue
Events / Re: Rationale Behind Many Speakers At A Single Day Event? by BennyDGreat: 12:54pm On Aug 19, 2023

Hm.

For all the reasons you listed. There are no set rules or weighted scales to these things. The essence of a conference might turn out to be a subject with very broad analysis. Dissecting through is often easily done when you have just about enough speakers. Networking comes in too. People attend conferences for the enlightenment and contact making. Others just gather a crowd of speakers to make the whole event seem overly important. It's part of embellishment and corporate image laundering.

From your personal assessment do you think most conferences in Nigeria have real time positive effect on the attendees or na just corporate image laundering
