How can your age be a demeans factor to you?

It's not a demeaning factor. It's the person trying to use it against you that makes it demeaning.

E.g If someone says something like: 'Ah, Babe you don too old oh. No body go gree marry you' u be grandma....cos the guy asked for her age and she said 35....that makes it demeaning

It depends on the context of the conversation.

If it's just a casual conversation, no big deal.
If it's meant to demean her, then it becomes wrong

You are accountable only to God. The rest is eye service or artificial humility which is hypocrisy.

None of the people you are accountable to in the church are able to see your heart and know your actual state.

"The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, who can know it? I the lord search the heart....."

He is the ultimate judge.

Thank you for mentioning the state of the heart. The accountability to a spiritual leader within a local church is tied to helping to re-align the heart of men to God constantly. The church isn't a place for perfect people but a place for men to have a heart check from time to time and purge all impurities out

Most people here just feel they know so much about a subject matter and as a result, dish out high level inferior comments...

If you do your due diligence of the Bible as claimed by most of you, answer the following questions;

Prophecies in the Bible that comes with exact number of years, was it fulfilled the very year?

Prophecies with no exact time, does that make it false or wishful thinking?

Let me school you today if you so desire.

For any prophecy or prayer, human participation will always be needed for its fulfilment. There is the part of prophecy, then another part of human participation.

How is it wrong for the Pastor to prophecy?

Most of you all who hail people like Fela to be a prophet, etc do not really understand that it is harder to predict good things than it is for evil.

Anyone can predict Naira will fall further next year but to boldly declare it will bounce back stronger is a high level of faith.

Isaiah Prophecy about a virgin giving birth as a case study, most of you all would've dragged the hell out of him on X and Nairaland. He will not escape dragging on the day he was announced dead also but hundreds of years later, What happened?

How easy it is for someone to declare at that time that a Virgin will never conceive, and the person will be so honored to be a true prophet of his generation even in death.

Anyways, worldy wisdom; Sophia is absolutely different from The Wisdom of God.

NB: I am talking to Christians only.

Powerful. So deep!

I used to like Christians songs many years ago…
I remember listening to Don moen… I love it.
And then gradually we start listening to local Christian songs … Mama Bola Are on B.C.O.S every Sunday, Faith A praise, etc…. I dey like am.
Then, the a bit modern Christian singer.. Opelope Anointing… because of the Baba suwe comedy in it, we will watch it everyday after school… it was very interesting.
Then Baba Ara scandal.
Then we have every smokers trying to make a living on what I assume should be sacred , because the Christian want to socialize too , but in a Christian way…
Then we have Christian Fuji, I used to assume Fuji is a dirty song, I guess my environment determines that..
I finished university before I could start enjoying it, I still listen to some of it and even the Golden Apala.
The likes of Tope Alabi, Ajogbajesu, Lanre teriba, etc makes me hate listening to Christian music… I just assume they’re all dirty hustler…
I’m not anywhere close to being righteous , but I just assume something should remain sacred and spiritual.
My wife always try to get me on mercy chinwo, Sinach, Etc…. While those people haven’t wrong me and I do not know anything about them, I just have this reserved hatred based on my expectations and experience of Christian musics … mostly by Nigerians…
I just stop listening to every Christian music.

Listen to any of Dunsin Oyekan, Theophilus Sunday, Nathaniel Bassey, Lawrence Oyor, Kaestrings, Chingtok Ishaku....if you play any of Dr Panam Percy Paul's song, you will see how fresh it is.
Family / Helping Today's Kids Understand The Reality Of Life PART 3 by BennyDGreat: 12:32pm On Sep 01, 2023
By Ebenezer Mabinuola

In the previous parts: 1 and 2, I highlighted some areas parents need to pay attention to in raising their kids to understand life's reality.

I did mention areas like training them to be security conscious, to respect adults, to be bold, communicate clearly, be hygienic etc

See part 1 and 2 here
Part 1: https://www.nairaland.com/7822846/helping-todays-kids-understand-reality

Part2
https://www.nairaland.com/7823568/helping-todays-kids-understand-reality

In this final article, let's consider some areas to consider when raising kids in today's world.

1. Parents must teach their kids endurance- Endurance is the ability to outlast challenges.

Parents must let their children know that sometimes, things will not always go as planned.

Children, as they journey through life, could get entangled in challenges seeking to break them. Introduce to them a winning mindset so they can effectively face their fears and challenges and not crumble under pressure.

2. Teach them to cook- cooking is an essential skill every child needs to learn. From a young age, begin to slowly get your children into the kitchen guiding them with your supervision.

By the time they become teenagers, they have become accustomed to cooking with minimal supervision. This helps them save money and reduce eating out when they start living alone.

3. Teach them that failure and success has meanings- Parents are to teach their kids that failure isn't the end. Success is always possible if work is put in.

Also, teach them that success isn't a one-time affair. It's in consistently working and improving that makes them a true success.

Lastly, teach them that good work means more work.

4. That conflict is a part of life- Many times, even as adults, we shy away from conflict. We do not want to have issues with anyone but that hardly happens.

Train them to always look for resolution points in every conflict. Help them understand they can't entirely do away with conflict as they journey through life. It is part of life

5. Teach them to be assertive- Train your children to withstand manipulation and manipulative people.

Many people in the world want to manipulate others who are perceived as naive and innocent.
Raise your children to stand their ground on what they believe is right.

6. Teach them sex education- Many parents shy away from teaching their kids sex education. They see the subject as cringy and shy away from it.

Dear parents, it's best to be the first sex educator to your kids. This way, you can correctly guide them and streamline the teaching to only areas beneficial to them.

Teach them that having multiple sexual partners isn't worth it. Ask a man dying of STD on his death bed, he would be full of regrets for sexual recklessness.

7. Teach your children to embrace correction- Many adults when corrected, frown and disconnect themselves from the people who call their attention to wrong doing.

If many of these adults had been taught from a young age to embrace correction, they would behave differently.

Remember, taking sound correction is a way to becoming a better person.

8. Teach your children to respect boundaries- Children can be free-spirited. As such, they
don't know when they cross boundaries.

Your children must be taught not to cross boundaries set by people they encounter as they journey through life. Parents need to show several examples to make this stick.

9. Parents must teach their kids to think before speaking- Kids can some of the most unexpected things, which may be considered secret; leading to embarrassment. Parents must guide their children on things that can be said and that which cannot be said especially in public places.

10. Parents must train their kids to open up to them- Children can be sometimes secretive about some challenges they go through because of the negative approach and reaction of parents.

Parents must be able to boost the confidence of their kids by making them feel at ease to share certain things with them.

In today's world, parenting requires a lot of learning on the path of parents.

It is my belief that this write-up will stirr parents/ would-be parents into acquiring knowledge for parenting in today's world.

Yes. Marriage is not for extremely smart people or people who want to make sense out of every situation. Marriage is not for extremely rational beings, people who want everyone to bring equal things to the table, or those who want to run marriage like a contributory pension scheme. If you're not ready to spend on a broke woman or cook for a broke man, don't get married. If you fail to choose stupidity, you will find yourself calculating every step and expense you make in marriage.

Another important key in marriage is communication. Be ready to communicate regularly especially about your movement. She should know your movement. Don't forget that she and her children would be the one to suffer if anything happens to you.

Communication also include continuous expression of your love to your spouse.

Comment when she wears new clothes or new hair style, or anything new you notice. Communicate, be opened. Communication also include I'm sorry; I love you; thanks Honey, etc it helps.

I've been stupid for 29 yrs now.

I travelled to Tanzania in 2018, in search of greener pastures, greener than The green in Nigerias flag. I was skilled and versatile in cosmetics and beauty products in general. So the plan was to establish a multi million dollar cosmetics firm, far away in a country called Tanzania.

I took multi layers of loans from different micro finance banks, friends and relatives. I was able to gather almost 30 million naira. I applied for a Tanzanian visa and it was out in days. I travelled the following week to east Africa with big plans and big dreams. It was a tourist visa, the plan here is to get a working permit so as to establish my dream firm without slowing down.

Little did I know that trouble awaits me in the future. I was able to get a contact of an immigration officer who will help facilitate the transition from tourist to a working visa. I paid over 1200 in USD. In less than 1 week, I had all necessary doc needed in setting up my business. Everything was going on smoothly, business was thriving. I easily made over 2million naira in pure profit in 3 months.

One morning, government officials came to my building requesting for my license and stuff, I smiled while feeding them with all the documentations and licenses. Little did I know that day will be the last day I will be seeing the company I have built up from scratch.

When the officers imputed my details on there system, it showed that all my documents were forged and not authentic. I was handcuffed immediately and sent to their cell, while my case is been arranged for court. After some days, I was sent to court, to cut the long story short, I was charged with forgery, unlicensed production of goods and over stay in Tanzania, I got a 2 year sentence.

Where did you apply for the business license?

Were you friends with any Nigerian in your short span?
Family / Helping Today's Kids Understand The Reality Of Life PART 2 by BennyDGreat: 10:19am On Aug 31, 2023
By Ebenezer Mabinuola

In the last post, we examined 10 ways parents can help their children understand Life's Reality.

See post here
https://www.nairaland.com/7822846/helping-todays-kids-understand-reality

Quickly, let's consider other areas parents can help their children understand life's reality, position then for life's reality and help them win.

1. Parents must teach their kids modesty- Young folks have high possibility of displaying youthful exuberance, which is normal. However, in the midst of all, parents must consistently communicate modesty to their kids.

It's not uncommon to see young ladies scantily dressed on social media these days. Some dance naked, twerking and whining their bodies like women of easy virtue would do.

Some parents have a lot of blame in all of these. They dress up young kids in revealing clothes showing their laps, backs, stomach and all.
These kids grow up seeing these clothes as normal because of their familiarity with the nudity culture.

2. Parents must teach their kids dignity in labour- From a young age, parents must consistently communicate to their children the importance of working with their hands, doing legal Jobs.

They must teach them dignity and why they must not cut corners to succeed in life.
Teach them it's ok to grow wealth and not rush the process.
To effectively communicate this, the parents must be people of dignity too. You can't give what you don't have.

3. Teach your kids proper hygiene- Parents have a responsibility of raising kids who always appear neat and clean. They must raise their kids to prioritize oral hygiene, Personal hygiene,
Environmental hygiene, Domestic hygiene.
Food hygiene....etc

4. Parents must teach their children time-management- Teach your children to arrive their school functions on time, teach them why they cannot abandon their homework to watching TV, teach them why they cannot play around more than they engage in learning, teach them to dress on time and not spend hours with their food.

5. Teach them to be bold and communicate clearly-
Some kids are introverted, while others are extroverted. Naturally, the extroverted kids are generally drawn towards being bold and outspoken. However, no matter your child's personality, they can be bold and learn to communicate clearly.

After all, some introverts are heads of organisations. These people may not talk much but are bold and can communicate their thoughts clearly.

6. Teach your children on savings and investment- Imagine you teaching your children how to save from 5years old and guiding them through sound investment. Just imagine how knowledgeable they would be at 18!

For this to be effective, you as a parent must have a track record of sound savings and investment culture so you can guide appropriately.

7. Teach them to have goals-Before the beginning of each session/ term, ask them what they would like to achieve.

Their position in class, how many books they would like to read, the type of grades they would like in each subject and train them to build systems around their daily life to achieve this.
They will be truly grateful to you in future for this!

8. Teach them to have quiet Time- Your children need to be taught that the world is a noisy place and sometimes, they need to silence the noise.

Train them on self-evaluation where they examine their goals and work on doing better. Teach them to develop the mechanism of deep introspection and critical thinking. Teach them to meditate on positivity and God's word.
All of these makes them reduce possibilities of mistakes.

9. Teach your children to enjoy life- constantly have conversations with your kids and communicate the need to have a time of relaxation. If you can afford it, take them on vacation. This exposes them to seeing the world from another perspective beyond their immediate environment.

10. Teach them to value relationships- Life is all about relationships- With divinity and man.
Teach them not to be quick to break ties with friends on trivial issues like sports, fashion, entertainment, politics etc when they argue and share different opinions. It's okay to share different opinions with your friends on a particular issue as long as they don't ditch good values you both share.

Dear Parents, parenting in today's world requires a lot of work and you must be willing to put in the work.

Thank You for this. Although heavy your messages are realizations I have discovered and desperately want to work on. Addictions are not beaten over night and I am making conscious efforts towards beating them both physically and spiritually. I do not want to end up like him and in my findings I have realized alcohol and weed have on several occasions energized the monsters I do not want. I was first exposed to porn and sex addiction by my dad when i found some of his secret stash and as a child i was confused not gonna lie but i slowly slipped in. My introduction to prostitutes and later weed i found out the combination of weed and sex was a different feeling, one that felt too good but gradually I realized I was destroying myself and also fueling similar behaviors from my Dad. Yes the Pastor Wale Oke is the same renowned Bishop Wale Oke. In 2009 he cut him off citing his lifestyle and his treatment of his family. If my Dad had disciplined himself he would no doubt be levels above so many renowned ministers today. Apostle Johnson Suleiman was one of his members in the 90s, He ministered in Church of God in the 90s and early 2000s frequently because he worked briefly with the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa, he even worked with the late Reinhard Bonke on some of his crusades and other renowned ministers too much to mention. I do not want to go into some details because I do not want some sensitive information leaked here for the privacy of my sisters and mom. My Mom still runs the church in Delta. Yesterday my mom called me, news have gotten to her and she now knows about my addiction problem. She only made me promise her not to end up like my father. I thank you for this, I have come to this realization and I hope I build the necessary discipline needed to become a better man. God Bless you.

There's only one way out- Settle down in a Bible teaching church. A church that is discipleship based. That way, you can have someone discipling you and following you up back to back. We all need someone like that till we mature

Family / Helping Today's Kids Understand The Reality Of Life PART 1 by BennyDGreat: 4:41pm On Aug 30, 2023
By Ebenezer Mabinuola

Many parents while growing up experienced poverty on many levels. Some had no shoes, some others who were more fortunate had bad shoes.
Having to walk long distance to school, wearing rag-like clothes, hawking to support the family, defecating in the bush/ open spaces, having to survive on rationed food and fighting for sleeping space at night....the stories are endless.

Today, these folks have become successful. They would never want their kids to suffer.

"I suffered a lot while growing up, I don't want my kids to suffer." Is a very common statement from these set of people.

They raise the standard for their kids, providing them with access to good food, clothing, shelter, vacation abroad, quality healthcare, good allowance and many other privileges. After all, they are kids of successful people.

As good as this is, if not balanced, could make the parents go extreme in a bid to protecting their kids from poverty that bedeviled them while growing up. These kids then turn out unable to face life as they become overly dependent on their parents.

Here are some areas to consider when trying to help children understand life's harsh reality:

1. Teach them to know God-Many parents grew up under strict environment that showed them the way to follow concerning faith. The strict foundation they had gave them solid leverage to grow in their faith when they encountered challenges in life. Today, parents can be non-challant about passing down faith and teachings that helped them win in life. The responsibility is on them to hand down the pattern that worked for them to their kids.

2. Teach them hardwork- It's not uncommon to see parents employ maids and assistants at home to help out with house chores. While this may be helpful in reducing the stress of the parents, they must raise their kids to take care of the home by instructing them to assist in specific areas as they begin to grow. This hardwork must also be extended to their school as parents must follow up their wards academic performance and ask them areas of difficulty in a bid to help them out.

3. Teach them respect for elders- Children of today can be very disrespectful to elders. Some enter into places and refuse to greet elderly folks. It's visible the way some talk to their parents rudely.
Some parents even frown when an elderly person corrects their children outside for wrong behaviour. Nowadays, you see young folks insulting elderly people on social media. A total show of shame!
Parents need to do better because while many of them were going up, they were held accountable by the community and they had to respect every elderly person they come in contact with.

4. Teach them to love- Love is unconditional. Love doesn't run away in time of challenges. Love is for all seasons, either good or bad. Love is 100% loyalty. Parents must teach their children what love entails by being examples to follow in this regard.

5. Teach them to be kind- Parents must teach their kids to show empathy to the plight of others. They must train them how that not everyone may be as fortunate as they are and how to be kind to others without bringing harm to themselves.

6. Train them to be security conscious- Situational awareness is a very important skill everyone needs.
When you are in dangerous positions, how do you react? Parents must train kids basic security lessons such as knowing how to lock the doors, avoiding show-offs, not leaving their food with strangers, not following strangers, how to identify if someone has intention to harm them etc....

7. Teach them they won't always have their way-
Parents must teach their kids how the world doesn't revolve around them. Imagine a 13 year old boy wanting the latest iPhone gadget and accessories because his classmate has one.
Parents need to deny their children things they know could expose them to 18+ content. That means parents must decide when the children sleep, what type of shows they can watch on TV and correct them in love when they go wrong.
Setting boundaries for the kids is a great way to teach them contentment.

8. Parents must mete out appropriate disciplinary actions: children are always full of energy and have tendency to get their parents angry, doing the wrong things.

It's the responsibility of parents to give take the necessary disciplinary measure against kids behaviour. They owe the society that responsibility so they don't end up raising violent, reckless kids with no self-control.

9. Parents must teach their kids to be responsible- Children who are not trained to be responsible adults end up becoming thieves, kidnappers, drug addicts, prostitutes, fraudsters, rapists, 18+ actors or actresses, gambling addicts, terrorists etc with violent tendencies.

10. Parents must teach their kids to be careful with words - Parents must teach their kids to be careful when uttering words. They must teach them to know that words cannot be retrieved once spoken. They must continuously help their kids edit the words they utter and make corrections where necessary.

Some other areas parents need to train their kids: Teach them Savings and Investment, teach them to be bold, teach them to know what they want, teach them to be Time- conscious, teach them to value relationships, teach them to hygienic...etc...which will be discussed in PART 2.

What stood out for you in this PART 1?
Would love to hear from you...

Politics / Re: Our ‘City Boy’ Has Brought Extreme Hardship – Bishop Adeoye by BennyDGreat: 8:18pm On Aug 29, 2023

City boy is doing the right thing.

The bishop should talk like someone with sense at least. If you remove fuel subsidy and dollar subsidy, there will be difficulties at first because the economy will have to readjust.

We cannot continue to borrow to pay salaries and use 90% of our revenue to service debt.

I even thought removing subsidy would make everything skyrocket to like 500% but I am surprised it’s not that much as expected. If past president since the days of Obasanjo have been bold to remove the crippling subsidy without cowing because of protest, we wouldn’t have been here.

The people in power today were part of folks who said no to subsidy removal when Jonathan attempted to remove it. So, they coming back years after to remove subsidy will definitely not sit well with many folks.

The government needs to look for ways to cut down on spending and look for ways to quickly get the nation into true federalism. Let everyone manage their resources. No more free money
