From the responses from Shelly I thought you were applying for a nigerian visa. Yes you need to apply first online, fill the nessesary documents and go to the embassy.

If you're in Maryland and would have to go through the stress of buying a money order, why not just get a nigerian passport instead of getting a visa.
Had my baby last year in Maryland and got baby's naija passport in two hours at the embassy.

My sis I had to ask my friend who had a one year old to give me an estimate of the amount of diapers she had used. So far I've used:
148 NB size; 374 size 1; 320 size 2;
478 size 3+ a gift carton; 267 size 4 and counting( I'm keeping the numbers for next journey)
Didn't say how many cartons coz it depends on diaper brand.
for wipes I bought 2 cartons 900count each.
So far I've bought only 1carton of wipes here.
Remember you might get gifts of diapers and wipes too o. I was not so lucky after running my mouth. Lol
And I shipped by sea with other things to naija. Just keep the ones your baby would use before your stuff arrives.
I'm sure Other BTDT moms on NL can help too.

@Newmum2015 and other mums thinking about shipping stuffs from the US. Here is my experience and advice.

1. Think well before shipping baby cribs because the chance of your baby using it is 50/50. My boy insists on staying beside the mum on the bed. At this rate I can sell you the Graco we bought , because we have never used it..

2. Be careful with electronic products from the US. The Avent sterilizer I bought packed up within a month. We had to buy another system. The TV we shipped is yet to pack up but The expensive stepdown we bought to safeguard all of them is already burnt.

3. Baby liquid soap and other heavy liquids can be bought locally,its not worth the extra shipping cost. We paid Delta extra $200 and it was money wrongly spent.

Important things to ship

1. Baby foods. Similac, gerber and enfamil are very expensive in Nija. You can ship what your baby will eat for the first 6 months or 1 year if possible.

2. Baby clothes and wears can also be bought. Buy more of age 3 months and above. 0 to 3 months become useless quickly. He also got lots of that as gift.

In summary,you can source good products locally,its not all items that is worth shipping. Congrats for all the successful visas and POE stories. One love.

Also baby diapers and wipes. I bought diapers that has lasted for over a year with my first, e still remain small sef.

Lucky me then, cos I got 6hrs outbound and a 75mins layover for the return leg.

How was the care and service though?

You're really lucky then.
Service was very good, leg room:ok, food: fair(Mediterranean food)
I advice you buy something to eat for the 6 hour wait though you can use your card to purchase stuff at the airport in turkey.
Finally, there is a waiting lounge. Ask any of the staff to show you so you can sleep before the next flight. Find out if you're entitled to a free meal as we had 3 free meals

Thanks ladies for your responses. I'm traveling with a toddler so it would really be a journey of life with Qatar. 10 hour wait + belle would not be fun at all.
I had delta in mind but the fare no be here, almost 500k. Last time I used delta I got awoof ticket 198k

I've travelled Turkish airline before and the wait was 6 hour to & 23hours on return leg!

My question is for those who have traveled with a toddler and used wheelchair. Were you allowed to carry your toddler on your lap while you were being pushed? At your destination in US, did another porter push your luggage while were you were still being pushed on your wheelchair?

Congratulations and Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I must say you are one in a million! Many of us are ashamed to tell others our babies were delivered through C-Section. I am not sure if there is a cultural belief against C-section. I do know some of us are afraid other women will look down on us as lazy, weak, and unable to go through the pains of a normal birth. But the truth is normal delivery or not, it takes grace and strength from above to go through pregnancy and childbirth..

All this looking down on CS moms is lack of enlightenment. If God didn't think we'll need the knowledge of CS He won't give it to us.
The one that pains me most is the hating on the use IVF and other fertility treatments for conception(that Na topic for another day)

Well I used mine without writing the embassy.
Got the visa in 2012 for vacation, travelled and went back last year to have my baby. No one asked any questions about it. I just renewed via drop box in January.
Honestly I didn't know anything about change of intent until I joined Nairaland. To be on the safe side I think you should just write them.

We have given her more than enough info to convince her and in the end, it's up to her and hubby to make the final decision. Let's not forget that.

In my opinion I think you should wait until you're past 41 weeks to be induced. From studies I've read women conceive at diff times during their circle not always mid cycle and that affects real due dates.
Just talk with your Dr first sha.
This using LMP to calculate due dates just puts one in panic mode when 40weeks pass and no
show.

If you're asked where you're going to stay in the US, just give the details of your host including address. Your host does not need to declare anything except your're using an invitation letter from your host, then the letter should state that.

From her return date, 32 weeks makes perfect sense..
like PP's have said leave after two weeks and try using another POE.

hello all, been following this thread silently for two months now.

Had #1 last year at Mercy Medical Center Baltimore
OB fees 1,500
hospital bill 6,500 (vag delivery, no Epidural)
baby's bill 1,500
Ped fee 114 per visit for self pay

due to inadequate planning plus i went very late so i didnt get a discount as baby came before my first appointment sef, so i ended up paying almost $4k for OB fees instead of 1,500. but its 1,500 and covers prenatal and OB delivery fee.
