Ghana just announced easing of more restrictions in the 14th speech delivered by the president today https://citinewsroom.com/2020/07/nana-addos-14th-covid-19-address-to-ghanaians-full-speech/. In the speech he laid emphasis on the reduction of active cases whilst de-emphasizing on the total confirmed cases which tends to scare people off. He also applauded the recovery rate and low mortality among the people as some of the reasons for easing the restrictions.

Why am I saying this? In Nigeria, the emphasis has always been on 'confirmed cases' which we all know will never reduce. We've crossed the 40K mark and definitely this will keep on rising BUT what are the active cases? What's the recovery rates and mortality rates like in Nigeria? No one is saying or pushing this to the forefront.

Recently we heard Lagos state is closing down an isolation center which was donated by private professionals as part of their contributions. Now this is understandable, but calls to question the sincerity of the state ...if the numbers are increasing, why are they decommissioning an isolated center in the middle of a pandemic when they clearly need the center? Couldn't they have source for funds to keep it running? Did they discharge all the patients there? Or were they relocated?

I'm not doubting the virus presence in our midst but I think they should do well to let us know the actual state of the cases. People want to know more about the active cases and not total confirm cases as that do not give them hope any more than heightening fears. Any wonder people are now more interested in BBNaija than waiting to see the numbers daily. Seeing active number of confirmed cases drop (22300 as at 11:59pm 26 July 2020) would help keep hopes alive!

Its not my pessimism oooh but those of the economists. A gigantic mall of this magnitude in a state like Ebonyi would only do fairly well if you've got foreign anchor companies like Shoprite and Game else it would be difficult attracting patronage from actual buyers rather than sightseers

I think government should investigate deeply what the issues are with the forces leading to the loss of grounds in the on-going war. War against terrorists are never won.

But we all know how they use religion as an excuse each time. It's no fault of any southerner not to have fears over religious or economic protests in the North. Back in the days when ABU students were using any academic crisis to trigger a larger crisis in the state then. I still believe it is possible.

Nope u got it wrong, it can never lead to riots against religion or tribe. If the protest has underlying factors like desecration of the Holy Book or Holy Prophet, or the corpses of northerners kill somewhere were brought to the north, ehen, in that case, I can agree that it may to riot and loss of lives. But this one is against the government, so it is between the protesters and the government forces.
This is not the first time economic protests is happening, it happen during GEJ also against increase in petrol price, many years ago, it also happen against the VC BUK.
It is just that u guys like to associate anything about the north to bloodshed which is wrong, bigotry and danger of a single story.

While ài agree with you this is an economic protest, I don't think he was wrong to posit that it could lead to a religious uprising. Big sallah is coming and coupled with the Covid19 situation, it could form the basis of a potential religious crisis if not properly managed. They're always looking for the avenue to do this. This is all false. That is how riot start in Kano. I have been in Kano for over 30 years and has witness riots that happen, but it doesn't happen this way. If it was protest about corpses of northerners brought from another (e.g sagamu riot) or protest about desecration of the Holy Quran or Holy Prophet, then yes, I can agree that it can lead to riots and lost of lives. But this protest is economic protest, it wouldn't lead to riot except faceoff between the protesters and security personnel.
Most of u guys has never been to North but will be thinking that you know everything about them.
