Ooh no you got me wrong all along ....my calling for her retirement is NOT because she lost to a 20 year old but more of her failing physical and mental strength. Look at the age range of all those she lost to in the finals recently, you will agree, she can't match their strength or rather struggling to match them.

Nuzo1:
If you are calling for her retirement, it should be based on a strong case of her physical and mental strength failing her. Not because of what people will say or that she came second to a 20 years old small girl.

There can never be shame being second to Osaka, even if it will last for 10 years. Everything is not all about ego.

And remember what I told you earlier, when shaparova beat her a couple of times, she was ridiculed and pressured to retire. But she came back to retire them.

Finally, money, power, respect and other things may not be her only motivators. Her major motivator would most likely be that playing tennis is the only thing that gives her joy.

So why ask a 1st runner up to retire? Why not ask those who lost in the second round to retire.

I must confess that this your call is very surprising and sad.
Sports › Re: US Open 2018: Serena Williams Loses To Naomi Osaka In Controversial Final by bigtt76(f): 11:05am On Sep 09, 2018
@embolden ....absolutely correct! Power serves require a lot of energy (which the younger players commands) but as you grow older, you lose it. Here people still believe Serena should continue playing for as long as she can ...fine but she needs to change her strategy and hope her opponent would not capitalize on her weakness ....ability to run around the court pretty fast. Happy Sunday to you.

NgeneUkwenu:
You Sabi the game wella.

Her most powerful tool in the past had been her powerful serves which resulted to aces for her. However one needs a lot of energy to fire aces, which has deserted her of late due to age, hence the decline.

Roger Federer, Halep Simon, Angeliqer Keber Djokovic and Even her sister, Venus are all dynamic in style of play....meaning they can devise means of staying or converting serves to rallies where they can force opponents to commit errors...but if you watched her game against Osaka yesterday..anytime the game enters rallies, she would lose the point.

Consequently, I aligned with your submission.

Sports › Re: US Open 2018: Serena Williams Loses To Naomi Osaka In Controversial Final by bigtt76(f): 10:38am On Sep 09, 2018
You got it dear!

NgeneUkwenu:
One of the sensible comments here. The problem is that many here don't watch tennis or are not fans of the tennis game but only come out to watch the finals of game when the likes of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Serena or Sharapova are involved.

Some of us who watch tennis as our past time, and follow every game till the finals knew, there was no where Serena would have beaten Osaka Naomi yesterday. If you had followed Osaka in this tournament, you would've seen how she bagel opponents( some of them best hitters of the game) on her way to this final.

Moreover her movements round the court troubled Serena throughout the match from the first game, her serves were top drawers, and her returns superb. Serena couldn't simply cope from the first set.

Forget all the drama in the second set, Serena was bound to lose that match. It happened to her at Wimbledon, the same tactics deployed by Keber to beat her.

Coming to Rafael Nadal, there was nowhere he would have beaten Del Petrol in that semi final given the way he had been playing up to that match. Del is in devastating form in this US open, the way he dispatched powerful servers of game on his way without dropping sets, I knew Nadal was there for the taking....the retirement was just an after thought, when he was 2 sets down grin

Congratulations to Osaka Naomi and Djokovic cos I know he will beat Del tonight.
Sports › Re: US Open 2018: Serena Williams Loses To Naomi Osaka In Controversial Final by bigtt76(f): 10:34am On Sep 09, 2018
The struggle to get her Aces right is one thing that frustrates her. It may have worked in the past but she's losing out on that strategy but she won't stop which is causing her all the nightmares. If you watch well, she starts becoming jittery after flunking all her ace attempts. undecided

NgeneUkwenu:
Wrong. She won all her first sets (6) before yesterday game she only dropped second set against Knapei after she (Serena) bageled her in the first set.

Moreover, in yesterday game, Serena was able to fire only 3 aces in the entire game against the Japanese 6aces.

She committed 6 double faults against 1 for Osaka.

She was able to get only 51% of her first serve in, against Osaka 's 71%.

No matter, how you look at it, Osaka played better tennis than Serena yesterday...forget all the drama. She deserved the loss.
Sports › Re: US Open 2018: Serena Williams Loses To Naomi Osaka In Controversial Final by bigtt76(f): 10:31am On Sep 09, 2018
Passing the baton down to the younger ones does necessarily mean they have to be her kids ...no! No she didn't coach Osaka or others but she can impact in them her experiences and even fight for their rights off the court. She can't continue playing all her life ....the time for her to stop is now, like it or not! Make these younger girls nor come de poke fun at her say 'who you epp' oooo ...toh! cheesy

Like you said, she happens to be the best selling sports woman out there and this facts might be what is prodding her to continue playing which is good.

Nuzo1:
Lol.

Why would she pass the baton to Sloane? Is Sloane her daughter? Is Serena a tennis coach? Was it Serena that coached Osaka? Sloane and other kids should better train harder.
To play and win a tennis competition is not Nigeria political appointment.

As for the ranting and crying like a kid, it was all expected as that makes it clear that she's human who has been at the top for a long time. She learnt her lessons, got over it and went ahead to celebrate Osaka. What else do you expect of her?

Worst has be said and demanded of Serena in the past but most of her critics have since come to except that regardless of her age and "unsellable" color, this is one woman who deserves all the respect and accolades and must not be taken for granted.

Why not update it? Something might be broken on the current OS version you're using hence why they released one. Most of these issues can be corrected by running new updates. undecided

I have been facing this issue now on my device for about a month, mostly with my most used application, Fiverr and Upwork.

Phones › Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by bigtt76(f): 10:19am On Sep 09, 2018
Why not? I've used several phones before but not a Xiaomi. I was one of the first that took to unknown brands like UMI (now Umidigi) with their UMI Iron back then, Injoo Fire, Infinix Hot2 (AndroidOne version), Note2, Nokia XL and Tecno. I love sleek phones hence my pitching tent with Xiaomi. Umidigi would have been a force to reckon with but they treated their customers with disdain when they first released the UMI Iron and went on to abandon support for it. Instead they released the UMI Iron Pro ....I even at a time emailed them to setup shop through Jumia and Konga back then but they didn't mind me sef grin ...look at them now struggling for Nigerian market share.

Hanseel1:
How come you turned into a tech genius within a short period of time?

I'm sure you knew nothing about all these phones last year.
Sports › Re: US Open 2018: Serena Williams Loses To Naomi Osaka In Controversial Final by bigtt76(f): 7:08am On Sep 09, 2018
I get you clear. I just thought it would be best for her and Venus to pass on the baton to the likes of Sloane Stephens and others looking up to them for inspiration and motivation.

Osaka most probably took to tennis watching Serena and Venus play, today she beat her 'mentor', watched her cry, rant and throw tantrums.... something you would expect from the 20 year old Osaka to do undecided

Nuzo1:
First, Serena should be punished. But it doesn't take away the fact that she made a valid point.

Now, It just doesn't sound right to call for Serena's retirement simply because a new kid beat her at the final. Same calls were made years ago when shaparova and kournikova beat her.

Her sports performance has not deteriorated like you are insinuating, she only met a superior performer in the person of Osaka coupled with the fact that she's also a nursing mother.

Venus may be established, but she's not thinking of retirement anytime soon. Besides, Serena is more established outside sports than Venus. The only edge Venus has is that she has less sporting engagements than Serena.

You don't retire when your physical and mental strength is far beyond 99% of your contemporaries. Only Osaka is ahead of Serena at the moment. And given to history and statistics, it's still not guaranteed for Osaka in the future.

Serena is one of the most, if not the most sellable female sports stars for decades because she is still playing effectively. Venus had this spot before, but her performance declined, and so her endorsements. You can imagine what will happen if she retires.

Long story stort is that Serena has a lot of years to spend in retirement. But for now, she has to keep playing as long as her physical and mental health is intact. Even if she will be always come second to osaka in the next 10 years. And this means; more endorsements, respect, money, experience and power.

Nothing to gain from retiring now.

Sports › Re: US Open 2018: Serena Williams Loses To Naomi Osaka In Controversial Final by bigtt76(f): 6:23am On Sep 09, 2018
Trust me, I've been following she and her sister Venus right from get go as well as others like her. Sporting performance deteriorates with age. They start winning at the age 16-17 and by the time they are in their 30s they are burned out. You can reverse that. Now you got stronger kids out there ....she can't continue winning dear. Its time she calls it quit and avoid all these embarrassment. Not saying she should retire to become full housewife, she can become a coach, motivational speaker etc to the up and coming. Venus is well established now and I'm sure she will quit finally. I don't see Serena getting away without a sanction from the Tennis Association. You don't call an umpire a thief publicly undecided

Nuzo1:
Somebody came second and you have the guts to ask her to retire?

Retire to become a full time housewife or market woman? Smh.

This is not the first time she would loose, but later go ahead to make a major comeback. If you doubt me, ask Maria sharapova and anna kournikova. They came, conquered Serena. But Serena reconquered back. What Serena usually do in this situation is to go and study the weakness of her major contenders.

That being said, she will eventually retire someday, but not now. Tennis is not like football.

As for the game, she was cheated. Male tennis players always get away with what she was called out for.

Congratulations to Osaka.

fibonacci2526:
Bigtt76 I think you are misunderstanding the "erroneously" mentioned by Macbeyland. Newbies generally don't know about xiaomi's global ROM /version etc. Am sure if someone told them they can get the global ROM with just the exception of band 20 10-15k less than the global version, you will find 90% of people choosing the former. Like the redmi note 5 mentioned by acekid, the global ROM is very cheap now like 10-15k lesser than the global version and there is no fake/shop ROM with it.

Less than $170 will get you the global ROM (black) for the note 5 while the global version is about $200 for the same colour.

I understand the differences dear, but what I'm saying is if someone having all these in mind still persists on looking for one that supports his/her desired network, they shouldn't be discouraged into settling for one that does not meet their need.

If they prefer to buy a Global version over a Global Rom despite both not supporting Glo Band 28 ....allow them but don't see it as them making the choice erroneously or ignorantly it may be what they long for. Does this mean that if I currently have a Glo 4G SIM and I desire to upgrade my fone to a Xiaomi RN5, because of its non-support of Glo's 4G band, I should downgrade my SIM to 3G or subscribe to MTN because of its support? No.

If Taiwanese versions support the Glo Band, then why don't you stock it to give buyers wider option to select from? Don't offer them an alternate choice if it does not meet their requirement ....remember its their money and they may as well choose to spend it 'ignorantly' or 'erroneously' as you may want to term it, but let them be satisfied that they got what they want BUT did not meet their need.

In the past, I've seen people rushing to buy Blackberry phones but still go on to read their emails via the phones web browser ...those ones I would term ignorant of the enormous benefits a blackberry device has to offer.

Above me is someone who bought a Chinese Version with a shop rom installed (not from any seller here though) going through the stress of unlocking bootloader ....do you think a potential Xiaomi user reading all of these would still want to get a Chinese Version of the device over a Global Version? No except from trusted people here and that is after many others can vouch for them undecided

Gptech:
You got it all wrong, the only difference between Global and Global Rom ( Chinese version flashed with Global rom) devices is the LTE band 20 available in the Global Version. It is common knowledge that most Xiaomi devices don't suppose Glo band 28, so anyone deciding whether to buy Global version or Global Rom already should have that in mind. Xiaomi devices with Taiwanese version I know of are just the Redmi note 3 pro SE and the Note 5, others with Global support are the Mi note 2 and the Mi Mix 2s. It is actually true that most persons buy the Global version of Xiaomi devices ignorantly, because almost all won't even benefit from the added LTE band 20.

acekid109:
with that price self i no see reason to buy global version
Phones › Re: The Xiaomi Thread. by bigtt76(f): 12:16pm On Sep 08, 2018
I disagree.... why do you say erroneously? Not everyone has the time to start doing updates manually to avoid one thing or the other. Most people just want straight up updates instead of having to grapple with vendors installing fake roms (not you or others here).

Again most would want to their fones unrestricted for use on all networks. Like me I've been a Glo user for years and with 4G available on their network, it would be foolish of me not to take advantage of same hence I won't go for anything less than the compatible Global version.

I remember my Nokia XL back then, I had to tweak and flash roms just to get it to work the way I want. Not anymore will I want to stress that much.

Try and appreciate people's preference when it comes to marketing and don't try to convince them to go for choices other than what they want.
