i think maybe we should adopt a stance that before answering any of these ridiculous questions that can be done with a simple search we should first ask the individual what searches he/she has made to find a possible solution then from there if it's a case of understanding then we can try to explain to the person in simpler terms |
ahmedgafar7: STOP insulting dis guy,I'm sure there was a time in ur life u guyz didn't knw wat an android means.u said he should make research iz d question nt part of d research..enough saidyeah there was a time when we didn't know what android meant and we are advising him to do what we did - google/bing/search it up o. We keep referring to XDA when people talk about issues with their android devices. I don't know about anyone else here but i for one have never posted anything on XDA and God help you if you make a post before reading the rules of the forum or you post in the wrong forum. All the answers/solutions i've gotten from xda i've gotten by searching, not asking questions. Before they even answer your question they will first refer you to the rules and tell you to modify your post accordingly. So over here we are pretty polite. That said, noone here knows it all, i can't remember how many times i've had to look up a certain issue on the internet, just so i can give someone a solution to an issue. My point is, you say we should help the guy; i say before we can help the guy we would probably look up the solution to guy's problem (maybe i'm wrong, maybe there are some pros that have the answers on th tip of their fingers, but i'm not one of them). So if either way the solution gets searched online, then won't it have been better if the person first searched online before coming with a question? And for the person asking about the difference between android and tablet, go to google.com, type: difference between android and tablet i'm sure you'll get enough answers and no one will laugh at you |
TrebleChamp: Hello tech gurus, pls can i run ubuntu OS on my Dell Insiron n5040 3gb ram, 300gb hdd, 2.13mhz laptop? Am currently on Windows 7 Proffesional 32 bit OS, thanks.i wonder why people keep using these titles, we're not gurus (except maybe pc guru), i feel a simple hello would be adequate enough |
puskin: hmmmm.........this thread??or "which side of my tablet is the screen"? |
LeJeun3: .Good evening, just started using this tab, and it just goes of today and won't boot. Power+vol up gives me r screen below. Any help??what kind of tab (make, model etc)? |
4llerbuntu: just buy another one. u might get lucky this time.u wicked o, let him buy a galaxy tab instead |
Poorly spec-ed phone and tablet. Single core in this day and age? Even Tecno does better. This market no go sell o.
hmm a website domiciled in the uk that has the price of products in naira; na wa o 4llerbuntu: one of the hazards of this thread and perhaps NL is that you stand the risk of losing the ability to help yourself.you know the most annoying one, sometimes a person will post a question about something that was answered one or 2 pages earlier; if only they bothered to search sigh but bros leave leo alone o! unless you want to see 200 posts by the same annoying person repeating the same question over and over again |
Maleeq: Guys, as i am typing this message, i am seriously sweating. Come to my rescue before something do me o!yeepa!!! that na serious yawa o,glad you were able to fix the issue sha; i too was about to say testdisk should have been able to fix the issue but since u've done it, no wahala |
ahonzi: hi folks ... whenever i downloads it goes straight into my sd card.how do i access them and also access my sd card"?download from where? your browser? if so u need a file manager, install one from the play store |
ciphoenix: why use torrent?torrent is for sharing files, and not necessarily illegally, sometimes even the download sites recommend that u download torrents to reduce load on their servers. That happens a lot in linux, especially when a new version comes out |
4llerbuntu: ^^^^actually i was refering to this post: fadinus: Bros its not possible for the htc inspire 4G to recieve 3G/4G signals because its frequency band is not supported here in nigeria. |
fadinus: Bros, naija gsm operators transmits 3G frequencies at 2100 MHz, if ur gsm cannot receive 3G signals at 2100 MHz then you may not b able to receive 3G/4G signal here in Nigeria. I maybe wrong sha. Check out this link www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html[s]Agreed, but on checking the phone spces i have to agree with 4llerbe, it is a quad-band phone and does support 2100mhz[/s] my mistake, checked the specs of the desire hd instead of the inspire 4g, i agree, probably won't work on 3g in naija; but why are u peple even recommending a phone running a 2/3yr old os in this day and age anyway? Abeg if u want to change your phone, get one that came out this year or at least late last year |
frosbel: ^^Thank you joo, i wonder whether men were wearing trouser when that law was even written. And besides there are trousers made for men and trousers made for women. Going by that passage it would be wrong for a man to wear a trouser made for women |
samsard: Hey guy tecno F7 is has a full HD display(unlike the lenovo), do yu mind doing away with your sentiments so, yu can analyse things more clearly +who told yu the fone(s) are or is scrap?ok i did a bit of googling, some of us hear this HD/FullHD thingy and we've absolutely no idea what it means. Anyway fullhd is actually 1080p (1920x1080), meanwhile the tecno f7 is 1280x720 which IS HD but not FullHD i hope we'll stop having this argument from now on. 4llerbuntu: calculate PPI you say? since when does 320 by 480 screens become "HD"?Oga 4ll3r, u sef u wicked o, why u go call dat kain phone 320x480? |
paulabdeel: Yes, I did. Thanks.so are you saying it didn't work or the problem is now fixed? |
castrokins: Dear NL,you might have to boot into recovery and reset data (which will also mean that you'll lose all your installed apps); i haven't actually tried it before so i don't know if it works, unfortunately i don't have a bematel tablet to try it with. Anyway power off your tablet, then hold the power button for 3 seconds, while keeping your finger on the volume up button. hopefully you should be taken to a recovery menu where u should see an option to reset/clear user data hope this helps |
paulabdeel: Hello everyone, I need assistance. I just installed Ubuntu Raring and tried to update. After everything had been downloaded, I was to Ok a font EULA then it got stuck. I was at this point for almost an hour. I could not exit from APT-GET. The process is still stuck there. The terminal reads: E dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg-- configure -a' to correct the problem. I don't know how to proceed. Please help. Thanks.have you tried to run: sudo dpkg-- configure -a |
ideology: hello pals, am using Samsung galaxy pocket, pls just yesterday, the apps that use data such as yahoo, what'sapp and others stopped working only opera, pls what could be the cause?what do you mean by "stopped working"? do you mean the app crash whenever you try to use them or you mean they come on but you cannot access your services from them (i.e. even tho your whatsapp is up your whatsapp messages are not going)? |
GUY UR QUESTION Z FUNNY, BUT I WILL ADVICE U TO MODIFY UR POST NOW N ASK THIS QUESTION AT TECNO THREAD. COS "DEM" GO EAT YOU WHOLE FOR HERE
but you know, that question is android specific - not necessarily tecno specfic question. @versace400 i'm pretty sure you have a way you partitioned your sdcard before; why not use the same way? if you were a linux user partitioning and copying your files from one sdcard to the other would be pretty straight forward -especially the one on the other partition; as it is, i haven't tried it using windows. Next time you have issues on an android device it might be a good idea not to mention tecno - at least for now, we're in the middle of a heated war between "properly registered/ branded" phones and phones that aren't recognised outside 3rd world countries |
shosky1794: The advertisements(coupled with distribution) are some of the overheads which make phones from these big manufacturers expensive. This was confirm by the CEO of BLU, a phone manufacturer in the US. By the way, I'll like you check out the just released range of Android devices from BLU at amazingly cheap prices on sales (without contract) on AMAZON. They are even cheaper than Tecno if we are to do a direct comparison. I'm sure if those phones were to be from Tecno or available in Nigeria, you will give them all sort of names.I've gone to the blu website, i've seen their devices; if i saw their phones for sale in nigeria i won't mind buying; Huawei is a chinese company, the last time i went to their website, i saw the types of android phones they have; tecno on the other hand, their website ... well let me just say that when i saw the announcement of the tecno n4 on nairaland, i wen to check their website to see what the had to see about it. Nothing, nada; went to check for the N7 recently same thing. Any serious company marketing a device on the international level will have information about such devices on their website. So what's the proof that the phone is even from them? A lot of the people on this thread check other sites for information about some of these phones. When the most popular phone analysis sites don't have any information about a phone brand then your esteem of such a brand can't be so high. Believe me, when sites like gsmarena and xda start featuring tecno phones (they feature blu and huawei by the way) then we'll take them more serious. |
malign: Used to do this in 2006, shipped a pack of five CD's right to my doorstep in Abuja twice a month, which I shared amongst friends, but the general interest in Linux at the time was minimal at best. Glad to see it's gained momentum over the years.Gentoo? haba! even i have never used gentoo, and i believe i've used more than a couple of distros and i've even tried more than one bsd. I don't know how many hardcore linux users we have in naija, but i'm not sure there'll be too many using gentoo |
aze: or Galaxy Ymy advice just go for the galaxy young (s6312) it's 23k at the slot website and it came out this year and runs android 4.1 |
i'm a bit curious, i've seen a number of posts where people are having trouble installing whatsapp. I'm confused, isn't whatsapp supposed to be as easy to install as any other android app? |
but men eyin guys, those tecno people dey post o; 277 pages for the n3 compared to 107 for android; those guys try sha |
shosky1794: If you've got no solution to their problems then I think it's polite to say you don't but putting them down is rude. Most of all these high end phones you so much brag about are only just for status symbol. I'll say it again, I can bet you hardly use up to 65 percent of the phone's functions here in Nigeria.emm bros, i think it's more than just about status o. at least for those who are regular on this thread; it's also about being able to get adequate support, software updates etc. I've gone to tecno website before on more than one occasion, i'm yet to see the n3 or the n7 on their website. Granted i don't have a high-end phone, i can afford one but it's not practical, all the same i would rather get a samsung galaxy young than a tecno n7, at least i'm sure of getting a jellybean device. Ice cream Sandwich is so 2 years old,and some of these devices are still coming out with gingerbread! Well use whatever works for youbut i don't think most of the regulars here use high end phones JUST because of status |
Chxta: For those looking for a lightweight DE with an Ubuntu base, look no further than Crunchbang Linux. It does what Lubuntu wants to do slightly better.i thought crunchbang was less stable or at least more subject to unexpected incidences than other ubuntu derivatives |
As for me and myself, i buy low-end phones, but i just don't have the nerve to buy a tecno phone - at least not for myself sha. Do they talk about tecno phones on xda? 'cos those are the kind of criteria that determine the kind of phone i can buy: custom roms, clockworkmod etc. Agreed the tecno devices they buy work for them, however they won't work for me so i don't think i'd want one |
Toroze: @ 4llerbuntu i know the are light de's but i want the full package and although there are distro built from ground up for netbooks like pingeee and easy peasy they are to slow on a netbook, my only options now for de are gnome 2 enlightenment and MATE but i don't which is the best and please does any de work on any distroi don't see why Xubuntu won't work for you, i'm pretty sure it's adequate, you can even use kubuntu AND disable graphic effects i think it's called compositing |
i think what he's saying is that he has created a vm where he's installed ubuntu, however he's unable to access his windows files. Come to think of it, there's an easier way to do that, though he won't have as much control. By the way what do you mean by external drives? do you mean the drives on your local computer or on a usb device? and way you can use the folder sharing method to share folders on your windows machine so you can access them as network folders on your guest os |
Mueeze: Ok. But how will I access external drives and connect to a network from the virtual box. Very important.you will have to add another virtual disk, there's a command to do it but i don't remember now. Search the virtualbox help file, it's somewhere in the advanced options, the command starts with vboxmanage. Just check the help file |
4llerbuntu: hmmn. For the first time did a distro upgrade (i normally do a fresh install) and i'm surprised i don't have any issues what's your issue with virtualbox? perhaps it's the kernel module that has issues in which case u have to run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup or in the worst case may need to reinstall your vbox |
all4naija: Linux Mint uses Cinnamon and very slow when compare to Xubuntu that uses xfce. So, the choice would still be Ubuntu.or you could use kubuntu and disable graphical effects |
