ComputersRe: How Do I Repair The Headphone Jack Of My Laptop by blackweaver(m): 3:54pm On Jan 05, 2013
best bet look for usb soundcard to buy, you might have to look around a bit in computer village to find one; but they're quite cheap when you can find; way cheaper than trying to fix something as complicated as a headphone jack
ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 12:55pm On Jan 04, 2013
i also hope there are lots of apps that work offline, it would be a total fail if to use any app i would need an internet connection.
i also wonder if it will be binary compatible with desktop ubuntu (hmm suddenly thinking dependencies)

4llerbuntu: Have you guys seen this?

I think i now have what is gonna take me away from android grin grin grin

sweet concepts. like the BB OS Peek thingy.

gonna watch the presentation now.

I JUST HOPE THIS WILL FOLLOW THE DESKTOP EXAMPLE AND GET PORTED TO MULTIPLE HARDWARE>
Haha, i was wondering when you were going to comment on it.

Anyway sha, you'll still have to wait a year at the least before you get a non-developer phone that runs the os

i hope by then there'sll be a few decent apps sha
ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 6:22am On Dec 07, 2012
brightk: with all this our yeye internet connection how person go enjoy him linux desktop na.. i only install programs from the software center. installing them manually na war of dependencies. i tried using virtual box (offline) to virtual my xp as a guest os while my linux ubuntu sits as the host. it worked fine after some dependency shit. i come install video lan player (offline also). na there kasala burst for my laptop scrin. virtual box nor come de open again..

how can one go through the hassles of dependency problem on linux in general.
for virtualbox i hope you git the generic version; as long as you have your kernel headers you generally shouldn't have any issues with dependencies since it contains most of what u need already and what it doesn't have it compiles in the installation process. For vlc i can't remember sha, the generic one might work too

...though you might need to get some qt libs sha

PhonesRe: Nokia Care @ Nigeria: by blackweaver(m): 5:35am On Nov 13, 2012
Ihedinobi: Just in case this thread still works and I can get help here . . . My zero/space button no longer works. It's the second time it's packing up. The first time I called on a technician and it began to work again without trouble. Less than one month on, it went dead again. I stay in Aba and tried the Nokia Care here @St Michael's Road this second time and was told, like I expected, that my phone was out of warranty. Then the guy who spoke to me called up a street technician to take my case. Since I didn't care to put my phone in worse trouble or repeat my first experience, I didn't do business.

My phone's a 723'zero'. What can I do to get the key functional again?
well i don't know if this will help, but i remember that when i changed the case of one of my former phones the keys became much more responsive; perhaps that may work with your phone

4llerbuntu: Yeah it always says that camera error thing but it opens two nautilus windows. 1 for internal sdcard another for external sdcard.

The only quirk is d external wont display the contents but you can copy and paste into it. U can access the external through the external sdcard folder in the internal nautilus window.

Maybe youshould consider using airdroid. Works really well and will access everything more convenient than a cable to be honest, all toy need is a Web browser
yeahairdroid works, i've used it before

ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 11:18am On Nov 03, 2012
ok u guys i thought we were all on the same side, let all this bickerng stop

@4ller whether you mean to or not it seems like if you're attacking him, you could have passed your message across in a less offensive manner

@naija, bros i no go lie, that your reply:

all4naija: XFCE being a lightweight Desktop Environment uses XFWM Window Manager is the most modest for some lightweight systems and relatively good on general hardware which don't require extreme undertakings.
blah blah blah blah, (i've shortened it for brevity) anyway the thing resemble lecture.
I think the point 4ller was trying to make is that most of us here know what window managers are and the differences etc. you should just have made your recommendations listing your reasons (e.g. i prefer xxxwm because ...) instead of giving us the full history of WMs, basically your reply would have been more appropriate if it was a newbie asking for advice. Personally when i first saw the post i was like "na who be this **** who dey give us lecture" then i looked at the name of the poster and cooled down.

I hope you don't find my post offensive, i know you meant well but i feel you could have simplified matters. This part of your post: "I am current using KDE for good customizing!I also think it is very good for Debian based operating system." would have been enough.
PhonesRe: Iphone Or Android by blackweaver(m): 5:25pm On Nov 02, 2012
first question: how much are you willing to put down
Second: do you want phone that just works or one you can customise.

if your answer for the first question is less than 100k then go android

if you can afford any phone and you want a phone that "just works" go iphone but if you prefer customizability go android

texazzpete: Multiple User profiles is for android tablets only. Microsoft still remains the only one that supports this on phones cheesy
just thought about your post and i realised that much as it would be nice to have this feature i wouldn't want to share my phone with anyone so i think i understand why it's not supported on phones (if it's truly not supported on phones)

all4naija: What kinda connectivity are you using? Indeed, using a virtual machine would slow the internet connection a bit.
swift usb; believe me i've done research; so far no way to get it to work on any linux version short of ubuntu9 so i just fire windows inside a vm and share the internet connection
PhonesRe: Nokia Unveils Lumia 510 For Emerging Markets by blackweaver(m): 11:15pm On Oct 24, 2012
Abbott: Peeps, is Nigeria an emerging market?
Guy, even India is an emerging market and they have a much larger global market presence than nigeria

jmaine: If this device berths in Nigeria between the 20 - 30K range, it will be a big hit here . . .

Peeps love the window phone user experience at first touch, though certain functionality still has to be incorporated to make the experience wholesome and more fulfilling. Prolly the upcoming 7.8 update should take good care of that . .
How many of these "peeps" are Nigerians based in Nigeria? My point is most nigerians know zilch about windows phones. Maybe if i get to try one out i may decide i like it's look but till then no can do for me
ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 6:17am On Oct 24, 2012

Asha 200 is 12k8 in slot (according to their website), i would post a link to their website but everytime i post urls i get banned

if you are based in Lagos just go to computer village, i'm sure you'll be able to get it at any sensible shop for less than 13k

ComputersRe: Can't Open Adobe/pdf Files by blackweaver(m): 8:10am On Oct 20, 2012
I assume you're tech savvy enough right?
Anyway try to open adobe reader - the program not a pdf file. If it opens then it's possible the default program for opening pdf files is not adobe reader.
Change the default file under the file properties (right-click on file -> select properties -> click on the "change" button at the opens with entry and select adobe reader).
If however your adobe reader doesn't open then google for and get another pdf reader - one not made by adobe and make sure you change the file properties so that it opens with that pdf reader.
