ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by blackweaver(m): 11:50am On Apr 17, 2012
ZIM DRILL: is it a desktop or laptop?

if it is a laptop is the battery full charged and have you tried it with the charger plugged in
one other thing you can do is try starting it with the battery removed (obviously with the power plugged in) then if it comes on you can put back the battery
ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 8:47am On Apr 12, 2012
hmm seems we're having an argument here, perhaps i should join in the fray; personally i've stopped using ubuntu (more or less)
i now use mint with mate/cinnamon - either that or use gnome3 - fallback mode maybe i'm just too old fashioned

moremi2008: What would I do? What happened to the police? How about bribing a few area boys to teach her a lesson? Your problem isn't even remotely challenging or interesting. A secondary school boy with an average IQ would be able to solve it. Abeg comot jor and go grow yourself some balls!
Actually if you went to meet area boys they would beat u up, that u're not even ashamed to confess that a woman is harassing you and you can't do anything; for me o the day a woman i'm dating harasses me like that is the day she becomes my ex; fortunately i'm smart enough not to go after women that are bigger than me; not ready to become a victim of domestic violence

ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 9:51am On Mar 25, 2012
Technically you don't. Essentially there are very few viruses that work with Linux so the chances of ur pc getting infected are very low, that said, if u can get one it won't hurt tho i think one comes with ubuntu

Nairaland GeneralRe: The New Nairaland: Are You Staying Or Leaving? by blackweaver(m): 3:24pm On Mar 12, 2012
@Seun no mind all the complainers joo especially those threatening to leave, sooner or later they will come back again; actually i'm not particularly crazy about the interface myself but i feel it's a welcome change all the same; the old one had become too monotonous. Abeg don't mind all the complainers, nothing do you
FamilyRe: How To Calculate Anyone's Age With Their Shoe Size by blackweaver(m): 12:16pm On Mar 09, 2012
This guy's a crook joo,

lets say u shoe size is X, an your date of birth is Y then when u do everything u are asked you get:

(((x*5) + 50)*20) + 1012 - Y

which will give 100x+2012-y

but if Y is your date if birth then 2012-Y is your age

and if X is your shoe size then of course the first two digits will be X; of course this equation will fail if the person is less than 10 years or over 100 years
ProgrammingRe: Google Chrome Hacking Contest by blackweaver(m): 4:33pm On Mar 08, 2012
All Anonymous know how to do is DoS attacks and similar stuff, DoS don't fall within the rules, generally google chrome has a reputation for being secure - which doesn't mean it's has no exploits or vulnerabilities, but rather these vulnerabilities are difficult to exploit to use to take over the computer. In previous pwn2own competitions (a competition where hackers come around to hack software with cash prizes up for grabs) google-chrome generally has remained unhacked though this year it seems a group of french hackers were able to get past it's defences.
That aside, good luck to anyone who decides to try it out; if you get through you deserve every dime of the prize money

BusinessRe: Chevron Gas Rig Fire At Funiwa Field, Bayela Stops Burning After 46 Days by blackweaver(m): 5:29pm On Mar 06, 2012
klas:
But it also took God 46 days to extinguish the fire. Government just have to be derided in Nigeria.
Actually God was waiting for the govt to put out the fire but when he saw that they were dragging their feet over the issue He decided to intervene
PhonesRe: What Does One Need A Quad Core ☎ For? by blackweaver(m): 10:56pm On Mar 05, 2012
sorry if i sounded rude, my point is, if you know you need one you definitely know why u need one, i probably don;t need one myself, though i wouldn't mind a fast cpu. Ok those into gaming, heavy duty animation, video conversion, perhaps even software developers - generally people who use their pcs for stuff that require quite a bit of cpu usage; then again u could probably get a lot of your job done with poweful cpus that are not quad core anyway
PhonesRe: What Does One Need A Quad Core ☎ For? by blackweaver(m): 9:20pm On Mar 05, 2012
if u hav to ask that question, u definitely don't need one

ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 5:04pm On Feb 14, 2012
@Nicesoul i have another question for you, what linux distro are you actually using? is it ubuntu?
ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 12:31pm On Feb 11, 2012
well i'm not sure of what you mean by changing from $ to #, do you mean you want to change to root access? if so you use the "su" command
typing su will ask you for root password; however if you're using ubuntu you may not have that password. instead prefixing any comand you want with "sudo" will give that command root priivileges e.g sudo ls
as to the tomcat problem unfortunately i haven't used tomcat for a while; what exactly are you looking for? did you install tomcat and are looking for it 'cos i'm almost sure tomcat doesn't come installed by default. please give more info so we can help you look up possible solutions
Phone/Internet MarketRe: Blackberry Porsche (new) N400,000? by blackweaver(m): 9:22am On Feb 03, 2012
Just read a review on the phone; except for the os and the expensive casing (metal buttons, leather wrapped battery etc) there's more or less no difference between it and the bold 9900. It's actually supposed to be a luxury phone not a mainstream one.

ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 2:47pm On Jan 26, 2012
i see the action has been going on while i was away;

jmoore:
No, ubuntu is immune to virus. You do not need to install antivirus
actually ubuntu is NOT immune to virus, it's just that most viruses are written for windows and windows programs do not run on linux
if there was a virus written for linux there is a chance it would infect ubuntu.

For those of you who are fans of the classical gnome interface (4ller i know this is not for you) i just read this: "Linux Mint releases Cinnamon, GNOME 2.x style desktop":
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/open-source/linux-mint-releases-cinnamon-gnome-2x-style-desktop/10220
PoliticsRe: Did Government Underestimate The Nigerian Public? by blackweaver(m): 10:21pm On Jan 14, 2012
@lasinoh (YOUR YE YE SUBSIDIES WERE BASED ON BORROWED FUNDS!!!)

if i remember well, the subsidy was there when we paid off our national debt

it's not subsidy that's the problem, it's all the crooks that spent/shared the money after Jjonathan came in, or you've forgotten the N75m that was spent on the 50th anniversary independence day cake? remember 17b was approved for the celebration?ot's all these crooked wasteful decisions that the nation can't afford - not subsidy
ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by blackweaver(m): 1:09pm On Jan 14, 2012
@milagros
no offense but what exactly is your point?
PoliticsRe: Do You Want The Fuel Subsidy Back? Please Vote Here: by blackweaver(m): 12:08am On Jan 13, 2012
when the government proves that they can be trusted, and the salaries and allowances of senators and legislators and the president are slashed to reasonable levels (i.e. non of them earning more than their western counterparts), and the government has dealt with the cabal and the refineries are working reasonably well, then we can talk about subsidy removal else at the end of the day the cabal will keep making more money and the masses will bear the whole brunt

Since everyone has been silent for a while let me use this opportunity to wish everyone a happy new year. It seems that most of the people on this thread have become pros now (which is a good thing). Ok let me throw this question out (though i doubt anyone will be able to help me): I presently use swift - with the usb dongle. Now the problem is i don't believe there's a linux driver for it. Presently i use a windows in vm to connect and then share that internet connection with the host os. Anyway is there anyone that uses the swift usb dongle and has gotten it to work any other way?
