if you're sure it's just a virus, why not just install an antivirus on your phone and use to scan? NetQin is an antivirus i use on my c5-00 or if you prefer you could install kaspersky or some other antivirus and use to scan your phone, but if you truly want to totally format your phone then put it off, and then while holdin down the following buttons: *, 3 and call/green phone put on the phone; keeps thise buttons pressed down till you hear the nokia startup sound, this will give you a hard reset; warning make sure you back up your phone first 'cos everything you have there (contacts, messages, settings, installed apps) will be lost. I'm pretty sure you don't need to remove your sim and memory card but to be on the safe side it might be a good idea to remove them first

bottom line is it's all about preference (personally i think it's an unfair comparison, a more appropriate argument would be lumia900 vs gs2 but that's me). that said i think a lot of people are more used to phones where you can at least change the wallpaper; even tecnos have that capability

As an example of what puskin has said, some of those aps give you a lot more control than you get from a non-rooted phone, someone talked about not having enough memory on phone; i used to have that problem on my phone till i discovered link2sd, an app which if you partition your sdcard can allow you to install apps on the second sdcard partion as if it was phone memory; it works better than app2sd and the best part is that ven when i enable usb storage those apps on that other partition are still enabled; for those who are finicky about unnecessary apps running in the background - the ones that refuse to exit (e.g. whatsapp) there are some other that can keep these apps from coming up automatically; most of these apps require root access to install and the others generally have limited functionality without root access

like purplekayc said, the swift usb router doesn't work on linux, well actually it worked on ubuntu 9.04 but because the source code for the drivers is not available they haven't been able to integrate them into current linux kernels. one wy that can work is to install windows in a virtual machine (i use virtualbox) and then use the guest windows os to connect to the internet and share that internet connection with the linux host. of course that also means the linux host will be a bit slower, but that;'s the only way i've been able to get it to work

well according to gsmarena, it is ICS, i guess you'll just have to preview it first to determine if it truly is ics or gingerbread

well anyone? oga 4ller here has some questions, if any of you has an answer it will be appreciated. unfortunately i neither have a digital tv receiver nor an hdmi/ tv out pc so i can't even test it for you, but i'm sure you've seen possible solutions for that kind of stuff online, perhaps not the nigerian ones

jedisco: The lumia series have managed to double sales quarter-on-quarter since its release from 1 to 4 million which no other phone achieved during their launch. This is quite impressive considering it has been only available in few markets.

you do realise samsung shipped 10 million galaxy s3 phones in less than 2 months - that's more than twice the number of lumia phones sold last quarter

totally agree, and we also remember the biggest (generally) unspoken issue with most chinese products - lack of adequate support. will hold my patience and wait for the nexus7 to hit naija instead

you know i sort of find it interesting that the concept of the app store that they are making so much noise about in smartphones has been around in linux for years

ishika roi: Actually my first installation of ubuntu was not successfull and then i tried for the second time and then it was ok without any hanging problem it got installed. after installing ubuntu my system is ok. now there are no problem with my system. I am having an ubuntu CD.

i think it's nice that you got to install ubuntu all by yourself, is that your first foray into linux?

malikalhaj: airdroid is tight, if u dont have a wireless router u can use connectify to connect both ur laptop and the phone (they will be on the same network) no need for internet. i use it with my wireless printer. works PERFECTLY

does connectify work on winxp/vista? (i know it works on win7)

abeg let them mention brand names naa, i think tecno is not a substandard phone company anymore, at least i believe they are certified with the ncc (correct me if i'm wrong); besides they have service centers all over. Let nokia up their game then they won't have to fear competition

Anybody tried Mageia linux? checked distrowatch and it's currently ranked just below ubuntu; apparently it's based on mandriva. I'm just curious, does anyone know why it's suddenly so popular?

even the cheapest android device around doesn't cost 13k talkless of the galaxy s2. You can't even get a decent 2nd-hand galaxy s2 for 15k (unless it's from a friend who's virtually dashing you)

don't mind the guy joo, some people just use their phones for making calls and as long as they have flashlight and radio they are ok - which is not a bad thing, but some of us actually like having other features on our phone(s) and when our current phone(s) don't have those features we drop them for another which has. That's what that chap doesn't understand

my first phome was a motorolla A100 i think, then a samsung (can't remember the model) then a sony ericsson (4gotten the model too) which was the first phone i bought, then nokiaE50, nokia2690 (when i lost the e50) , nokiaC5-00, nokiaC2-00 (my first dual sim), nokiaC2-03, lg-C370(first qwerty phone), samsung galaxy Y pro (first android phone)
that's 10 phones in all. still use the nokiaC5 and the galaxy Y pro

why do you want to set the ip address?

krazied: Not necessarily, if you get a nokia n9 you can port android ice cream sandwich and do a dual boot, actually you can do that with any of their meego range of phones ie n900, n950 though you'll need a little linux know how. just google it and you'll get tons of material.

oayombo: I wonder why Nokia keeps making all these s40 devices, don't they have enough of them already? The C5-04, C5-05 & C5-06 fall within the same price range and they have better specs, running on the s60 rel.5 platform.

you know something i've discovered? not everyone wants/needs a smartphone. for young or tech savvy people like you and me maybe; but some people just want something they can make calls with and has good battery life. Like it or not, s40 devices need charging less frequently than s60 or symbian^3 devices
