Voltron, defender of the smuggle's interests.. How do you connect what you regurgitated from your insipid medulla to the reality on ground. Going by your assertion at the bolded I can confidently state that the maturity and knowledge I once gave you on this platform was a waste. Tell me which of the listed textile mills was still operating by year 2003? Wasted knowledge
You're acting dumb now. Instead of just saying what contraband they are importing you start rambling to next topic. Lol you do realize legitimate business happens at land borders. You president is opening then in January.

You're question is irrelevant to the point I made. The textile mills shut down because they weren't competitive. Smuggling is just one factor, along with power and material cost (cotton). Like most protectionist clowns you dont want ask why the textile mills cost were so high compared to asia. If these other factors were addressed the mills would have survived without so much government support.

Readily available raw materials like cotton, for the production of textiles had become a problem. Nigerian farmers were experiencing lower yields of cotton and could not access improved variants like the disease and pest-resistant, high yielding biotechnology cotton. Petrochemical products such as the dyes, polymer and other synthetic materials being produced in Nigeria, were also not readily available. Inadequate power supply had also become a problem, resulting in higher costs of producing Nigerian textiles as power supply accounts of 45 percent of the production costs.

Check up your link very well because it doesn't fit into the discourse please.

You bandied 50%, I asked for link and you said 11% and and I read your link and it was saying something else.
I admitted to exaggerating but yes food prices did jump. Tomatoes did go up 83% for example. Again how does that hurt Ghana or south Africa like you bragged? Your president now wants to reopen borders st the end of January for everyone.

No that's why im laughing at your expense. Here's a source link. Admittedly I being hyperbolic but you get point. Real food inflation around 11%.

Complain about what, their inability to ship in their contraband goods? Loosing 3trllion naira indeed. They admitted the comatose state of our textile industries, so how is 3trillion being lost. Tomorrow it will be the turn of slaughter houses loosing trillion to border closure, next will be association of Kunu hawkers.
Stop talking nonsense. What contraband did they import. Reread the article slowly. The textile mills are down because the business environment bad for it.

Area4Area:
Story for the gods, tell us who signed for the corridor from both sides.

Very soon your factories will start relocating to Nigeria because Nigeria has been their target market, we've sent them a serious message already
Read the article if you want to know details on agreement. If you're not interested in fulfilling agreement just admit your government corrupt liars. You improvishing yourself isnt sending anyone a message. Your domestic companies are threating to leave and FDI still pitifully low compared to previous years.

nototribalist:
Una go suffer this Christmas, our borders are closed for life. Thieves.

Ghana and South Africa are two xenophobic countries that we will use this border closure to deal with. Fools
Lol who's suffering you food prices jumped 50%. Nigerian can be a funny bunch. You really showed them by hurting your business.

Ghana should have sense for ones, una mumuu don too much
Lol says the poverty capital of world. You weirdos already agreed. If you guys are just liars just say so. Its the Nigerian economy that going to take the major hit not Ghana's due to border closure.

Has the corridor being opened yet and the Nigerian government that said you must get your act together before any consideration for reopening is joking?
Continue begging Nigeria for forgiveness for now, change your ways and we'd consider you guys request.

Date of report, 18 October, today is 03 November yet you're already rejoicing over a phantom corridor.
Better tell your president to give those stranded Ghanaian drivers at our borders more money in order to survive.
Lol when does Nigeria do anything with haste. You already agreed to do it so its just a matter of time. Its funny how you weidodforgotten how Nigeria went crying over deportation and shop closures it seems this border closue judt an ego trip.

Area4Area:
Thanks bros, even if Nigeria allows a corridor for Ghana only(not possible) and not for Benin, they believe that Benin would allow that.
Benin would just raise their tariffs for goods heading from Ghana to Nigeria to make up for their loss with Nigeria.
Lol the corrupt Nigerian official lied to Ghana? To use any corridor you would need Ghanaian license they can't enter. Ghana also has to submit list of companies. Benin wouldn't be dumb enough to engage in tariff war with ghana. Maybe Nigeria would do something dumb like that without considering retaliatory tariff that makes their situation worse.

Notatribalist:
The timing of the border closure is bad, but the idea is good. Those products you are importing from Mali are they made in Mali? Probably a foreign company produces it in Mali with Nigeria market as mail target. That's the issue the gorverment is trying to solve. Let the companies come and Establish in Nigeria and create jobs for our people.
Lol hypocrites always exposes themselves. You want these same foreign companies to invest in Nigeria so you export products to ECOWAS nations. You think closing your land borders is how to attract foreign investors?

BUSINESSARENAA:
I once said that the closure of these borders is not a properly thought idea, but some ignorant entities were ranting up and down.
Lol Nigeria prefers scortched earth policies. Nobody in government can even articulate what polices they Benin or Nigeria to implement to reopen borders. All they do is shout their goal of limiting smuggling. This border closure makes some Nigerians feel powerful so they'll gladly keep it closed indefinitely even if it hurts their wallet. Any Ghana border closure thread is proof.

America used a similar approach much more effectively. Nigeria should've took notes. Trump threatened sanctions against Mexico if they dont do more to curb illegal immigration. The US got Mexico to agree to more information sharing, station national guard at their southern border and keep asylum seekers in Mexico until their cases are resolved in the US.
PoliticsRe: Border Closure: Northern Textile Traders Say They Stand To Lose Over N3 Trillion by Blue3k(m):
“Don’t misunderstand us, we are not against closing of the borders for security reasons, but government should give us a leverage of allowing us to bring what we imported and exports what is been purchased from us, then they can close the borders till eternity,” he explained.
The Q3 GDP report will be spicy. It seems alot small business are coming out of woodwork to complain. They'll just have use seaports or airports even if it doesn't make sense. Im going guess GDP grew 1.5%.

PS: NBS never released 2018 crime statistics.

Lol. How some of you quote to repeat something someone already said. I know what these oyinbo capitalists has done to y’all.
Funny how you get a job and start blackmailing people you met at the firm to gain oga love.
Legal or illegally I think only about 10% of migrants are criminals, people migrate for greener pastures, we recently saw some Chinese whom died in a freezing container trying to migrate to the US, those were not even Africans or from a third world country, they are Chinese.
What’s with people and land sef, my country, my state, our regions. People have been killing themselves for many years over land disputes that’s since the biblical days and check this out we are just scattered all over. We will never populate the landmass on earth.
Lol you're reduced to arguing platitudes because you cant defend your stance on illegal migration. Your president in Nigeria deports illegal immigrants for same reasons but you don't complain. The hypocrisy is strong with some of you.

“During this period, biometric data of concerned migrants are to be taken and documented. Information to that effect has been sent out to all the affected migrants   that whoever refuses to comply, will from January 20, 2020 be on the radar of Immigration operatives for arrest and deportation,”

Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mohammed Babandede

Source
• telling you to come legally is blackmail (weird)
• 10% of illegal immigrants are criminals in your opinion yet cant see why people dont want crime rate to jump.
• if those chinese people choose legal migration they would have avoided that danger.
• worry about populating every section of your country if that worries you.

All migration is illegal migration in your mind? Interesting logic you have there. The wall is only going to stop people walk across border. It doesn't stop the majority who simply come in and overstat visas living in country illegally.

PoliticsRe: Ajaokuta Steel Company To Become Operational In 2021 — FG by Blue3k(m):
I suspect lawsuits and other issues will stop that from happening. Nigeria will probably lose case since its usually the FG violating agreement.

The minister said, “As it where, Aladja (steel mill) has already been privatised and sold but Ajaokuta and Itakpe are still in government hands and will produce to the benefit of the people of Nigeria, no matter whose ox is gored.

“These people (GSHL), they are not our friends, they don’t want Nigeria to produce steel and they have successfully done it over the years.

“As it where, they are preparing to go back to some court abroad to embarrass Nigeria but I’m sure the country is capable of meeting them at this point and we will not surrender our sovereignty to some individuals.”

Nigeria has two sovereign wealth funds and they're both being squandered. It doesn't make logical sense to think you can run the whole state off mineral revenue and invest tiny amounts and expect to be like Norway.
PoliticsRe: 72% of Nigerians not willing to pay for national ID renewal – NOIPolls by Blue3k(op): 2:13am On Nov 01, 2019
It's weird to me they forgot to ask do you already own other forms of ID like drivers license. I think that big reason not to bother getting national ID. I dont see point waiting in line for multiple IDs that serve similar functions. There's alot of poverty if the majority of people surveyed think 3000 naira is expensive to renew card. The cost of a drivers licence is more money.

On the last question to maje procesd easier I would say mail my stuff. I dont want wait in line twice.

We are amazed that the ECOWAS Commission has not said something or commented on the closure of the border.
He who pays the piper calls the tune. The ECOWAS body isn't like the EU. They dont have much to say on anything.

Our foreign affairs minister had to quickly rush to Abuja to engage the Nigerian authorities. That resulted in an agreement that they will open a corridor for us.
You got your wish just wait on it.

I think it was Fayose who wanted to build an airport. I might be wrong though. He is absolutely right that the economy of the state is not large enough to support an airport.
It doesn't matter to me who's idea it was. Fayemi flagged off construction a week ago. Do you think Ekiti will cancel the project because Tinubu says the project is bad?

Interesting statistics.
Hope the first chart do not include road accident, fire incident but death as a result of banditry, armed robbery or any firearm.
Their methodology says otherwise. We wouldn't have to use them if NBS wasn't so inconsistent with releasing data. They didnt put crime stats for 2018 and dont have a release date on it. The dumb part is police will get up to say crime has went down without stating per capita stats.
