And who is supposed to or capable of holdingthe military to account?

It is not me or you. It is the commander in chief.

And when the same thing keeps reoccurring without change, it means the commander in chief is failing at his job.

The Military is not an independent unit. It serves at the pleasure of their president.
When something reoccurs across different administrations, you should know it goes beyond just a single administration.

so we should keep quiet and watch as our people die everyday with does charged with the responsibilities of protecting them doing nothing because we do not want to "politicise" national issues
There are better ways. Instead of being petty, you should call for a better police. Soldiers are not supposed to be used to control protesters. Soldiers are trained to kill.

But it is politics.

Everything that involves the responsibility of the federal government is political in nature.

The APC played politics when there were in opposition and broadcasted the failures of the reigning govt.

Why do you not want apc to be held to the same amount of scrutiny?

The only thing that moves politicians in Nigeria is reelection and politics.

If you divorce the politics from their responsibility, you have given them the perfect excuse.
You are wrong.

There are institutions such as the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement agencies that shouldn't be politicised.

Trying to politicise military brutality is one way to protect the issue and allow it to continue reoccurring.

We read about soldiers shaving some people's hair against their wish. Is that also politics for you? Did Buhari order that!!! Is that the first time the military have trampled on people's rights?

What about the extrajudicial killings in the North?

Yes, the bulk of the blame goes to the president. But the military need to be held responsible too.

You can't prove that anywhere.

When you use soldiers to do the work of police, there are always consequences such as this.

Yes, Buhari will bear the responsibility. But that is not to say that he ordered it. We all know that our military don't have a great relationship with the civilians and this bitter relationship did not start today.

Then it is the responsibility of those govts to fix it
If they don't, then it is a blight on them.

We expect buhari to now fix it, but with fanatics here and there , the old man has the easiest job in the world.

During the Jonathan era , the north accused him of killing their people.
Why did they accuse him for the brutality of the military if it was not his responsibility as the commander in chief to correct it ?
That is not the point. The person I mentioned wanted to play politics with the matter. He wanted to make it appear like this wouldn't happen under PDP but we all know about all the atrocities the military committed under GEJ, including the atrocities that made people of Borno to lose faith in them.

This is a matter of national interest. Not a matter of PDP or APC.

Why not devoid buhari of complete responsibility of his office .

You people are making it sound like Buhari brought military brutality.

The issue of police and military brutality will continue as long as we are addressing it wrongly.

Go to developed countries like the US and search through signatures of presidents present and past and you will find the messy as well as the good. It is a personal thing. Have you seen Trump's jagajaga signaturehuh

The reason why, when the ink was wet, I didnt want to post on frosbel2 "Freedom From Religion Is The Best Thing Ever" thread
was because frosbel2 is on the far high end spectrum of a lost cause, but I changed my mind after reading you endorsing his post.

Once you start down the slippery slope of self-destruction, like frosbel2 has, it is going to be very difficult to climb off it
luvmijeje, dont do follow-follow with frosbel2.
Please dont dig yourself a hole, you cant climb out of

Retrace your steps to find out where you've got it all wrong.
Go study the bible and learn about temple of the heart, about worship in spirit and truth etcetera
She made a lot of sense.

We have read about how Christ viewed the temple as mere stones. When did the custom of erecting cathedrals start? Why has church buildings become so powerful that many cannot even tell the difference between a "Church" and a mere building? Why do pastors get so excited when they erect an edifice? Is building an edifice the same as building a church? Should pastors not be sad at the level of dastardly acts committed by Christians all over the world, from money laundering to drug peddling among other life-threatening acts. Why are they rejoicing or admiring mere stones like the disciples did thousands of years ago?

This is an issue that needs serious attention.

Luvmijeje has asked wonderful questions.

I'm only responding cos you can spell, unlike the other miscreants. Anyway, you're a bum, for calling my people ingrates.

The problem with Nigerians is that they don't read, they prefer guessing and assuming. And, it's becoming a tradition in Yoruba land.

Back to the base, Soyinka shared the sentiments of many Biafrans hence, he wished his folks could champion for the creation of Odua republic. He knew succession was the best for a Fulani-dominated Nigeria.

However, Soyinka never fought for Biafra. When he traveled to Biafra to calm the growing tensions, the federal government accused him of collaborating with the biafrans. Then the FG put him in solictary confirment for 2years.

Soyinka didn't fight any battle for Biafra. Stop assuming or guessing like the regular Yoruba man, pick a book and read.
Soyinka never shared any sentiments. He just wanted peace.

Soyinka fought for Biafran prisoners of war with whom he shared cells. His travails are contained in his books Shuttle in the Crypt and The Man Died.

Hope you know that Soyinka was the first to document the Asaba Massacre? If not for him, perhaps, that massacre wouldn't have received international condemnations.

We won't all fight with guns. Soyinka fought with the pen, bringing Biafran plights to the rest of the world who didn't even know that a war was going on somewhere.

Soyinka pointed out Gowon's insensitivity by documenting the head of state's lavish wedding parties which went from state to state even while war ravaged the breakaway Eastern Nigeria (Biafra).

Read his books, especially, The Man Died.

Igbos who appreciate Soyinka honored him during the Asaba Massacre remembrance some years back. But these Igbos are very few. Majority just hate for no reason.

Yes. At least, Buhari approved money to settle part of the agreements the GEJ administration had with them.

ASUU wants a fulfilment of the agreement because of how Buhari helped distressed banks. They want the same treatment. It is understandable, but it does not mean Buhari should not be credited. After all, he fulfilled a part of the agreement. What about the PhD holder, GEJ, who made a promise that he didn't fulfill?

Look at you. Instead of correcting your kinsman who was being an ingrate, you are doing exactly the same thing that has made people stereotype Igbos as ingrates.

For many of you, everything is a battle between tribes. Your kinsman was wrong to say that Soyinka fought worthless battles when one of the battles Soyinka fought was for Biafra. But no, you don't know how to take sides against your kinsmen even if they are wrong. Everything is about ethnocentrism for you.

Some of Buhari's people-oriented achievements include:

Approving 43 billion naira as entitlements to former workers of the defunct Nigeria Airways who lost their jobs without entitlement under Obasanjo and Atiku 15 years ago. For your information, many have received credit alerts and are grateful. These people will vote for Buhari. They will never vote for an Atiku who took their jobs away from them without any entitlements.

Approving 20 billion naira for the revitalization of public universities. Something Goodluck agreed to but did not fulfil.

Established a feeding program for schoolchildren.

Beneficiaries of Buhari's sensitive government will vote for him.

This time it's Yoruba apc politicians that are sowing the wind of bigotry. They will reap the whirlwind in 2023.
Is it about enemies and retaliation?

Buhari is our number 1 ambassador. It is understandable if you bring pictures of the citizens abusing him. But for you to bring up the examples of members of a government demeaning the president is inappropriate, demeaning and desperate.

I don't expect anyone with commonsense to support these thieves.

Instead, we should ask them salient questions. They should tell us how many people-oriented bills they have sent to the president that the president refuse to assent to.

Any member of this government does not have the moral right to criticize Buhari.

Why are you people reasoning like this?

Does Buhari alone make up the Federal Government? Are these lawmakers not also a part of the Federal Government?

Why can't you people ask these lawmakers about how many people-oriented bills they have sent to the president that the president refused to sign?

There was no politics.

The Prize was criticized as Eurocentric and so it decided to become more open in 1986.

As at 1986, Achebe had not written any book since 1966. You expect them to bypass a Soyinka who had been publishing plays and prose consistently since 1960 and give it to an Achebe who had not been active since he published "A Man of the People" in 1966?

How do you measure greatness?

Soyinka wrote more books, was more versatile (writing in all the genres) and even beyond as a scriptwriter and a musician. Soyinka has more awards, including the most coveted award in Literature (the Nobel Prize). And all these, in spite of being 4 years younger than Achebe.
