if we want to be truthful to ourselves, we must be asking if we are surposed to be in the holy land in the first place.
rejecting your travellers cheques or whatever is as a result of your impressions or situations you had created in the past.
these same group who go to the holy land are the same group that have turned nigeria to a coursed land.
i urge the saudi govt to make sure strict islamic laws are used on those criminals.
again, saudi govt must learn to prepare a seperate holy land for nigerians come the next visit.

Lawyer and some handful of people are about the only people who can post their adverts on nairaland.
I dont know why people who have better and much reasonable offers adverts are pushed down the debris.
It makes me wonder where is the love in this country if someone as educated as whoever moderates the property section allows people to advertise crap like old naira notes to post their properties yet hide invaluable information posted from established real estate agents like myself.
I have heard several complaints. I could only say: nairaland is owned by people from Ogun state. They are all the same. Hateful scums.
This is a serious allegation. Can we have the moderator's comments on this please? Seriously!

@ 9jaganja

Many Nigerians abroad are delusional!!. I'm proud of Nigeria not the government. People expect too much when they've given too little to the communities they came from. Are you all bunch stupids or what? Amenities? How many of you have developed a skill and used it to benefit your communities? How many of you has gone to Nigerian to protest evil if it kills you? Many of my Iranian friends went back to Iran to protest the election and to voice out against the Islamic regime. Braving bullets and bombs they still did it. You coward sit your stupid asses behind your computers and request all sorts of things from Nigerian government. How many of you dummies paid taxes? even if it's 200 naira per 5000 naira? Did YOU write a letter to your local government chairman to let him or her know you are not happy with the situation? We are too much of a coward! I'll throw out all my foreign passports to keep my Nigerian citizenship but thanks to UN I can keep my native citizenship. Most of you didn't even go to school while in Nigeria and yet blame Nigeria for your misfortunes while we have one of the cheapest quality education in the world (Yes fools as much as you don't want to believe it, Nigerian trained professionals are world class). It's easier to be happy in Nigeria than any other nation on this planet. Just too much complex. I want this, I want that and I have to buy those. Even while in Nigeria if you hear this Akamu is made in America you fools will stop buying the Nigerian ones. If cloth is originally Aba made, you fools will rather go to Okrika to buy bend down select used clothes worn by trashy Americans. LRG and Coogi are now using Ankara to make polo shirts and selling them for $80- $150. If that was a Nigerian designer who first did that, most of you won't wear it. But trust some wannabes are already paying N28,000 to cop one of those shirts made by Coogi and LRG . Backwards Backwards. Remember no quality designer is made in "America" they are all made in CHINA in sweatshops (Starving little kids thrown into labour at early age) Just the label is American. Retardos!!!!!

CareerRe: Salary - How Much Is Enough To Sustain An Average Nigerian by bodsibobo(m): 1:38pm On Aug 25, 2009
No guys, don't let us get all this wrong. This same question has been coming to my mind for some time now. I currently live outside Nigeria but I have started thinking of returning home. My question is:

Forget whether you earn 5ok per month, or 100k per month, or 500k or 1m, What is the barest minimum one can survive on in present Naija (Especially Lagos). You can always save whetever extra you have or earn, but what is the basic cost of living per month or better still - per week.

I.e you've paid your rent two/three/five years in advance or you've built your own house; and you have a brand new car. (Something basic) What is the minimum you can survive on say fuelling, feeding, clothing, groceries, etc. Please do not add tithes, offerings, alms, spraying at parties, or pepper soup money here o!

I'd appreciate a very reasonably honest answer please.

Thanks.

Christianity EtcRe: Another Nigerian Pastor Involved In A Scam (Sunday Adelaja) by bodsibobo(m): 11:38pm On Mar 28, 2009
It's a big shame that people jump to post stories like these about Nigerians especially pastors.
I am not a pastor and I actually do not have any intention/ambition of becoming one. Also I do not know this guy in Ukraine, but what the hell is the matter with people when they pick up bits and pieces of info in far away places and the next thing is to post them as a topic over forums like this and then people start posting unfounded contributions.

This man has been doing his thing and living his life quietly and successfully in Ukraine all this while before this issue, no one bothered to find out his history/pedigree, no one wrote about the goods he's done in the past. But immediately news such as this breaks out, then the next thing is that every Tom Dick and Harry, starved of correct information, now wants to be seen as also contributing.

Honestly this nairaland thing should be scrapped. It's just a forum for dissemminating incorrect, unfounded untruths. What a shame!
TravelRe: Nigerians Abroad: What Advise Will You Give Anyone Relocating Abroad? by bodsibobo(m): 8:30pm On Jan 14, 2009
@Mosetra

@ South African Embassy just for visa. SA of all places, what is there? SA that we helped free from apartheid.
So you think in your heart of hearts that Nigeria is better than sa? My friend, you can not even begin to compare. Let's leave infrastructure out of it and compare what concerns the ordinary man. I'll give you a true example I witnessed just a couple of days ago:

Recently I went with a local friend to a mechanic workshop in downtown Johannesburg to get a damaged part of his car replaced. Unlike the high class mechanics in the suburbs, this local mechanic (akin to our typical roadside mechanic in Nigeria) was going about the precarious and delicate work of chopping, welding and repairing the damaged part of my friend’s car with no form of protective clothing or garments whatsoever.

This to me was a grave danger to him as any mistake on that job may cost him the loss of a limb, an eye or finger depending on which was closest to the accident if it happened.

In my concern, I mentioned my fears to the guys and their sure response got me thinking of the effect if the same accident occurred to a road side mechanic back at home.

The guys assured me that if anything happens, the ER24 (ambulance response) are just a phone call away and depending on the intensity of the accident, they WILL be there in minutes (even in an helicopter if need be) to take the victim (a local mechanic) away to whatever hospital was closest by, and he would be adequately taken care of at the expense of the government.

Can a middle class government worker (who is s graduate), compared to this uneducated local mechanic in SA (FEW COUNTRIES AWAY ON THE SAME CONTINENT), boast of such treatment if he/she encountered the same tragedy in Nigeria?

Mr. Man, we should wake up to reality in Nigeria.

@ Jacobs123

Your post is the most correct reflection of things so far. The truest part of it is the fact that "people relocate for different reasons".

Mukina2,

I really give you kudos for your vacancy postings. Even though I'm not a job seeker, I always go through so I may forward to relatives at home that I know who are looking for jobs. Please continue the good work.

But just one question, I wonder, doesn't these vacancy adverts come with pay packages being offered? I'm just curious to know the trend of remuneration packages in Naija now.

God bless you.

What a narrow minded line of thought. ACA and ACCA has it's own difference from CIA my friend. CIA is not auditing, it's Internal Auditing and it's different (greatly) from External Auditing (which probably your ACA and ACCA) makes you.

There is a huge shortage of Internal Auditors worldwide and for your info, here in SA, some organisations actually rate CIAs higher than CAs.

Well guys,

I actually was fascinated by this topic, so I read all, yes I mean ALL, the posts between 7:00 am today and 10:52 am, of course having breakfast, driving down the street to get groceries, etc, etc,etc in between. Quite an intresting read too.

But what pains me is this:

Nigerians (like the Jews) are very well travelled and I want to safely jump to the conclusion that we have Nigerians in every corner of the world, yes, in every country.

Methinks, if this great presence and positioning of Nigerians is systematically and and strategically co-ordinated in a well disciplined approach, together with the Nigerians at home, as a fulcrum, we can make NIGERIA a great nation, irrespective of one's current country/place of residence.

However, unlike the Jews, we are busy here on Nairaland (a great asset that can be applied for this objective at that) abusing and cursing each other.

My brothas and sistas, we really need to stop all these unbecoming attitude and really begin to work towards helping our dear country, Nigeria.

That's all for now - Peace!

Let me ask you this question. Have you ever asked yourself why people get promoted at work for being committed? Afterall they are appointed for such purposes. When you say 'thank you' to your driver, maid, security, okada man etc, does it mean you are a fool? NO!!!!!!
Saying thank you to an Okada man is one thing but pouring praises on the Okada man for taking you from point A to point B, even with the fact that you had to pay, sort of does make you seem like one.

Quote from: oluwdashmi on Today at 01:32:57 PM
It simply means you are appreciating that person for not failing you or trying to please you and also to encourage him.
Actually, the problem is here is you are mixing praises with encouragement. The last administration got the same sort at some point, how come all those praises did not translate into encouragement?  Please, can we separate the two here. There is the act of singing someone’s praises which does not necessarily translate into encouragement.

Quote from: oluwdashmi on Today at 01:32:57 PM
Now your answer.
Yes, he was elected for these purposes but if he doesn't do them, what can you do? Have you any power to remove him from power? Those who have ruled in the past or still ruling in other states and doing nothing for their states, what do people do but to what and see 2 terms past in vain.
This is the part of your post that got me interested. Why do you think, in a democracy, the people do not have the power to remove irresponsible leaders? Why are the past corrupt and inept leaders still rulling in other states and doing nothing for their states? Why do the people sit and do nothing while they watch the 2 terms pass in vain?

Quote from: oluwdashmi on Today at 01:32:57 PM
This is why you appreciate a person for doing what he is appointed to do. One more thing, be objective whenever you are passing a judgment because it may be a seed that you will reap when you also get to such positions.
Why come here and then give our indolence as reason why we need to appreciate those we hire to work for us? Are you being objective when hire a person to do a job and then turn around and sing praises when he does the job he is hired to do and paid to do as well? Do you really think it is unfair for one to demand that we expect at least each person do his/her job and maybe go above and beyond to get praises?
@KOBOJUNKIE

Thanks Kobojunkie for replying him/her. I read the posts and thought it would be a waste of time responding to someone that has this kind of mindset.

@oluwadashmi

I run an organisation for which the goals and expectations were made clear to me upon acceptance of the position. I evaluated things vis-a-vis my ability to deliver and I accepted. The scenario can be likened to Fashola's position and to me it is result-oriented/performance-driven.

If I meet the targets set for me, that is what I am paid for and it earns me promotion and continued stay at the helm of affairs. If I underperform or fail, I get the boot and the company looks for someone else who can perform. If I knew I would be hindered from performing I would not have taken the position/declined the job.

Fashola, campaigned and delivered his manifesto (promising he will fix roads, street lights, hospitals, schools etc. Lagosians(?) chose him, and he has been given the resources to perform just that. If he does, he's doing what his job entails (and which he fully understood at the time of his running for the position) and for which he is very well remunerated. If he doesn't he should be booted out and someone who can do the job should be put there by Lagosians(?)!

My point still remains that he simply should not be praised for doing the job he applied for, and for which he's very well paid by you (the praise-singer)! Or you don't know he's paid by you?

The silly excuses from some quarters that 'shebi some other governors in some other states are not doing anything at all' further shows that Nigeria's problems sometimes isn't with our government, but with the governed. cry

PoliticsRe: Lagosians: Is Fashola The Expected Messiah? by bodsibobo(m): 6:34pm On Nov 20, 2008
But why are you guys praising the man for what he is employed/appointed/elected/selected to do? The man is just doing what ordinarily should be his job description as a governor. It is only in Nigeria that public office holders are celebrated for doing what they are suppossed to do.

What else is he f*#cking there for other than to fix the roads, the street lights, hospitals, etc?
PoliticsRe: Merrill Lynch Ranks Nigeria World’s Safest Economy by bodsibobo(m): 10:57am On Nov 19, 2008
Merril Lynch, the same one that was acquired by The Bank of America?

If they say so, I believe them. But Nigeria is not like other countries. All of the countries in major trouble today are credit-driven economies.
Everyone buys everything on credit and so banks are up to their necks in loans. This was bound to come back and haunt them.
Not so in Nigeria, though. There is a credit market but it's so insignificant, it might as well not even exist. The people are not clobbered with debt. That's not to say we are doing great, but at least we are not in danger of losing our homes to fore-closures, companies are not in danger of closing down because they can no longer service the loans they got from the bank (as there no no such loans anyway, at least not for small businesses).

In Nigeria, you want a house, build one or buy one with your own or government money (whichever comes first). In America or UK, you want a house - get a job and good credit profile and voila!, you can get a brand new car, house, whatever fake life you want. Oh, and don't forget to stay in that job or get a better one (or even worse, get 1 or 2 more jobs), because the moment you start defaulting on your debts, the real owners of your fake life will be on your doorstep.

The main cause of this crisis is the way the lenders have been allowed to run amock without any kind of supervision.

So when, Merrill Lynch says Nigeria's economy is safe, it shouldn't come as a surprise. However, this has not translated into a better quality of life for hard working Nigerians, or better education or jobs.
This is why I think the analogy used in the first reply to this thread is a great analogy.
Are you saying the credit system is bad?

i live outside nigeria and since i relocated about 6 years ago, i've made it a point of duty to visit naija at least once every year for the sake of patriotism and to keep in touch with happenings. But every year after my visit, that patriotism keeps diminishing in exponential proportions.

In the first place it took me forever to decide to leave naija in the first place, all for the sake of patriotism.

This kind of news makes me wonder what manner of leaders nigeria is cursed with. Every other major countries (even our neighbouring countries in africa) in the world are doing all they can to move forward, except nigeria.

The first thing that came to my mind when I read this topic was exactly what was posted by samix:

and its this same country some dudes here think its worth risking everything for, a country that just does not value its citizens, a country that does not understand what democracy is, a country that seems not to know the meaning of "freedom of speech".
I was still fighting my concience trying to force myself to believe that it is not that bad when I read the reply to him by i-laugh:

shut the f up - you stupid igilandi slave.
I had no choice thereafter than to rest my case as the problem seems really not to be that of our leaders alone!
