Politics / Queen Approves Suspension Of British Parliament Ahead Of Brexit Debate by boman2014: 8:09am On Aug 29, 2019
Queen Elizabeth II has given approval for the suspension of the British Parliament.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, British had earlier announced the request that the
parliament be suspended for five weeks.

According to him, the current parliamentary session had been running for too long “and needs to be brought to a close”.

Members of Parliament (MPs), who are currently on summer break, are expected to resume on September 3.

MPs have described Johnson’s plan as a ploy to prevent them from passing legislation against a no-deal Brexit on October 31.

John Bercow, House of Commons speaker, described the prorogation as “constitutional outrage”.

Bercow said: “…it is blindingly obvious that the purpose of [suspending Parliament] now would be to stop [MPs] debating Brexit and performing its duty in shaping a course for the country.”

But Johnson has denied the allegations, saying the suspension has nothing to do with Brexit.

Jeremy Corbyn, Labour leader, said when the parliament resumes on September 3, “the first thing we’ll do is attempt legislation to prevent what he is doing”.

“Suspending Parliament is not acceptable, it is not on. What the prime minister is doing is a smash and grab on our democracy to force through a no-deal exit from the European Union,” he said.

“What is he so afraid of to suspend parliament to prevent parliament from discussing these matters.

“So when parliament does meet very briefly next week, the first thing we’ll do is attempt legislation to prevent what he is doing and secondly, we’ll challenge him with a vote of no confidence at some point.”

Politics / FBI Announces Arrest Of Large Number Of Nigerians For Fraud by boman2014: 12:55am On Aug 23, 2019
The US' Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Thursday August 22, notified the general public of a mass arrest which ensued after a breakthrough in its investigation of some fraud cases.

US attorney, Nick Hanna said in a press
conference that the arrested fraud suspects conspired with some federal and state agents to perpetrate the crime.

While the FBI's dragnet for 57 other suspects has been extended globally, the 80 arrested suspects (mainly Nigerian citizens) have been charged to court.

“FBI agents along with federal and state law enforcement authorities arrested a total of 14 defendants in the US, all named in a sweeping fraud and money laundering case.

“Those arrested today are among 80 defendants charged in a federal grand jury indictment that alleges that millions of dollars were taken from victims through a variety of scams and online frauds.

“We believe this is one of the largest cases of its kind in US history. BEC scam is used to hack email accounts to convince businesses or individuals to make payments that are either completely bogus or that should have been otherwise paid to legitimate companies.

“Indictments showed very specific allegations against this suspects many of whom are based in Nigeria in terms of stealing money from victims.

The indictment also focuses on those responsible for enabling these fraud schemes including operatives in Los Angeles" he said.

The 80 suspects whose targets were majorly elderly individuals, were handed a total of 252 count charges which bordered on “conspiracy to defraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, aggravated identity theft”.

Politics / 'Nnamdi Kanu Is An Ingrate’ — Asari Dokubo by boman2014: 1:40pm On Aug 19, 2019
Asari Dokubo, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Force, (NDPSF), has blamed Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), for the attack on Ike Ekweremadu, former deputy senate president.

In a video, Dokubo condemned the attack, saying Ekweremadu spearheaded the release of Kanu from prison.

Some members of the IPOB attacked Ike Ekweremadu, in Nuremberg, Germany, on Saturday.

The group said the attack should serve as a warning to other Igbo leaders, threatening to humiliate them too.

“Fellow Biafrans, I saw this coming. That a frankenstein monster was being created. I saw the signal, I saw the red flag and I warned you that if something is not done about Nnamdi Kanu, he will consume the Igbo people. And you did not listen,” Dokubo said.

“I took some time more than 24 hours after the break of the news on the dastardly and cowardly attack one of our finest and one of our best, Ike Ekweremadu, who I know very well was one of the people who made this ingrate, Nnamdi Kanu, to come out of prison.

“I am privy to most of the discussions and I feel very sad that I was part.

I participated in those meetings. Ike
Ekweremadu and Abaribe were the arrow head that moved for the release of this ingrate, Nnamdi Kanu.

That Ike Ekweremadu will be attacked, disgraced, his clothes torn for what purpose, to achieve what. If this dangerous path is not stopped among Igbo Biafrans, where one man arrogate to himself the right to give life and to pronounce death, you will be in fire because others will fight him.”

Politics / Ranching: Akwa Ibom Imports 2,000 Cattle From Brazil by boman2014: 7:41am On Aug 01, 2019
By Harris Emmanuel

The Akwa Ibom State Government has said that it had imported 2,000 cattle from Brazil as part of efforts to produce sufficient meats with a view to increasing protein intake for people of the state.

It added that the development is also aimed at ensuring food sustainability in the oil rich state.

State Commissioner for Information, Charles Udoh stated this while interacting with newsmen in Uyo. He added that the state government had adopted a holistic agriculture plans on food security.

He said: “The ranch was established in conjunction with foreign investors. The cattle have been quarantined. You know in the heat of the election, nobody wanted to venture into that ranch. And in the heat of that too, the Commissioner for Agriculture lost his seat.

“The reason we quarantined the cattle was that, first we needed to inoculate them. What I mean by quarantined is that we needed to get them acclimatised to the weather and prepare them for the long trip across the Atlantic Ocean.

“While we quarantined and inoculated them, we tried to get some pregnant because it is a long journey and some could die on the way. These are rare breed of cattle that can produce milk and meat at the same time. We are expecting 2,000.”

Family / Toddler Survives After Falling From Sixth Floor Of A Building (video) by boman2014: 10:59pm On Jul 31, 2019
A three-year-old boy in China fell from the sixth floor of an apartment building.

A group of neighbours, however, rallied to save the toddler, using blankets to break the child’s fall.

The toddler, who had been left home sleeping while his grandmother went out to buy groceries, woke up and wandered out onto the sixth-floor balcony and climbed onto an outdoor sink before slipping over the glass railing, reports Daily Mail.

In the tense video captured by a neighbour, the child was seen clinging to the building, legs dangling in a futile attempt to hold on.

Other neighbours, who also witnessed the scene were quick to react, grabbing two blankets and holding it below the toddler as a makeshift netting.

A security guard close to the apartment building said that the child was holding on for nearly four minutes before eventually dropping, his fall cushioned by the crowd who had gathered below.

“He was kicking and trying to climb up. He managed to lift himself a little bit but then slid back down again,” one neighbour described.

The boy’s grandmother was later reunited with the child, and although reportedly unharmed, his parents took him to the hospital.

Sports / Cameroonian Footballer Accidentally Livestreams Own S*x Tape by boman2014: 6:03pm On Jul 31, 2019
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Clinton N’Jie has apologised for posting a sex tape live stream of himself on Snapchat, claiming that he was trying to look at the news but “had drunk too much”.

The Cameroon international, who currently plays for Dynamo Moscow after spells with Lyon, Spurs and Marseille, had to clarify what happened after a video of him involved in a sex act with an unknown female was accidentally broadcast on his social media profile.

The footage was viewed by thousands of people before N’Jie realised his error and deleted the video, but by then it was too late.

The 25-year-old later confirmed that he had been out celebrating a new contract after agreeing to join Dynamo from Marseille that involved consuming alcohol, which he claims lead to him trying to Google his own name to read about the transfer.

But in pressing the wrong button on his phone, N’jie managed to upload the video to his Snapchat story.

“I’m sorry, I had drunk too much,” he told
Orange.fr. “I celebrated my new contract and wanted to read the news. I pressed the wrong button.”

The bizarre incident overshadowed N’Jie’s move to Russia after he signed a four-year contract to join the Moscow outfit, having spent the best part of three seasons in France with Marseille – having initially left Spurs on loan in 2017 before joining on a permanent deal that summer.

The forward scored 16 goals from 83 appearances with the Ligue 1 side after a solitary unsuccessful season at Tottenham in 2015/16, in which he failed to score in 14 matches before being sent out on loan at the end of the summer transfer window.

Politics / Court Orders Forfeiture Of Diezani’s $40m Jewellery, Iphone by boman2014: 2:28pm On Jul 05, 2019
A federal high court in Lagos has ordered the forfeiture of jewellery and a customised gold iPhone, belonging to Diezani Alison-Madueke, former minister of petroleum resources.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) valued the items at $40 million.

At the court on Friday, Nicholas Oweibo, a judge, ordered the temporary seizure of the items following an ex parte application moved by Rotimi Oyedepo, lawyer for the EFCC.

He had said the application, which had Alison-Madueke as the only defendant, was filed in pursuant to section 17 of the advance fee fraud and other related offences act no. 14, 2006.

According to the schedule attached to the application, some of the 1,897 pieces of jewellery, categorised into 33 sets, are “419 bangles; 315 rings; 304 earrings; 267 necklaces; 189 wristwatches; 174 necklaces and earrings; 78 bracelets; 77 brooches; and 74 pendants.”

The anti-graft commission said it found and recovered the items in the premises of Alison-Madueke, adding that it suspected that the former minister acquired them with “proceeds of unlawful activities.”

Oweibo ordered EFCC to publish the forfeiture order in a national newspaper “for the respondent or anyone who is interested in the property sought to be forfeited to appear before this honourable court to show cause within 14 days why a final forfeiture order of the said properties should not be made in favour of the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

The judge adjourned the matter till August 23, 2019.

The ex-minister has been accused of corruption, an allegation she denied.

In 2017, Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of EFCC, said the agency recovered $43 million from her.

Popular cleric and General Overseer of Omega Fire

the administration of former President Goodluck
Jonathan of looting ‘so much money’ from
government treasury.

The controversial pastor made the allegation in a
post published via his official Twitter handle on

Suleiman, who has been a fierce critic of the
current administration under President
Muhammadu Buhari, wrote: “Someone asked me
why I’m against the present government and I

“I asked him why he didn’t say same when I was

previous government that stole so much money.
“I am not political; I speak truth to power,”

Suleman tweeted.

DAILY POST recalls that Apostle Suleman told his
congregants shortly before the last general

The massive and colossal outburst of Joy that
greeted Gusau the state capital shows how
expectant the PDP faithful were before the almighty
pronouncement in its favour by the apex court
accordingly. This judgement is consequential in
nature. The effect of it will remain sporadical in
the days ahead. It will cost the PDP other pending
supposed victories in the court.

While the PDP was in an exciting mood, the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
issued a press statement, claiming to have
embarked on a crucial meeting, and that they will
brief the nation the outcome of their deliberation in
due cause. To me, this is an administrative
rascality and a display of absolute ignorance by this
body. Why are they contemplating over a
judgement that emanates from the nation's zenith
and top court? This is laughable.

WHY THE PDP SHOULD NOT CELEBRATE YET

I am finding it very difficult to congratulate the PDP
over its victory today in Zamfara. The main
concern is the pending cases in court that have to
do with Osun and the presidential election in which
the parties are key contenders.

Certainly, the APC has given the PDP its share of
the tribunal judgements already. Until proven
otherwise, I can't see the PDP coming out strong in
the two pending cases.

I don't think that the APC will allow more verdict in
favour of the opposition party because it needs to
celebrate too like the PDP is doing today.

ZAMFARA: One school of thought has it that, the
APC calculation was simple. They distorted the
court proceedings in Zamfara in their favour, so
they can garner votes for their presidential
candidate in the state. If they have allowed the PDP
to be in charge before the presidential election
without them having a candidate. They PDP would
have had a huge advantage in the state over them.

To them, the presidential election matter most, and
the victory they recorded for their candidate is the
deal. It is a done deal and mission accomplished
anyway.

OSUN Gate: The PDP and the APC have won the
case 1/1. The last battle is at the Supreme Court.

Conspiracy theory has it that, the PDP have taken
Zamfara and the APC will take Osun at the Supreme
Court too. That will be 1/1 (Zamfara for PDP and
Osun for APC) supremely put. There is no visible
possibility of the Supreme Court giving PDP both
states on its desk. If you know the meaning of
Justice, you will appreciate this Political
forecasting. That is why I say the PDP should not
celebrate yet, because the battle is just starting.

ATIKU VERSUS BUHARI (PRESIDENCY):
It is clear
that the PDP seems to be having an edge over the
APC in the court. The court has already
commenced hearing on the case. Matters are really
arising. With the Supreme Court verdict in favour
of the PDP. I don't see Atiku the PDP candidate
winning Buhari, the APC candidate at the supreme
level of judgement.

It is clear that this is a judicial bait and a Greek gift
given to the PDP to pacify it. A judgement coming
in favour of the opposition barely five (5) days to a
new tenure is worthy of suspension and questioning
indeed. Why now? This should be the question on
the minds of many critical thinkers, thought leaders
and opinion leaders alike.

While you tend to doubt this preponderance
analysis. Time shall tell. Except a miracle happens,
the PDP has taken or gotten it to share of the cake
already. The APC shall thirst the supreme cake at
Osun and Aso Rock.

It is good to note that, what you refer as Justice to
Mr A is certainly Injustice to Mr B. This is what I
may call balance of judgement or supreme
generosity.

With the reaction of INEC, it shows that Justice to
opposition party is seen as strange. That is why the
PDP must brace up to face the judgements ahead.
The party must put its house in other to face
difficult times ahead.

Saying congratulations to the party now may not be
necessary. I want senator Adeleke to prepare ahead
for 2023. In a leaked tape lately. The APC national
chairman Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was caught
dishing out the details of their strategy to win Osun
case at the apex court. If his assertions are true.

Then the PDP must forget the two judgements.
In Africa, Justice is not given, Justice is shared. I
am not doubting the possibility of the Supreme
Court standing for Justice, but that will be certainly
difficult and almost impossible.

Verdict in favour of the PDP is Justice and when the APC will get its own supreme judgements, it should also be seen as Justice as well. This is politics and politics is
everything. The judgement I favour of the PDP is
pure politics and the ones that will come to the
APC will not be in politics too.

Until the presidential and Osun governorship
elections verdicts are announced, fingers crossed.
Hopes alive. Thinking and calculations on. This is
Africa. We are in Nigeria. Power is not just sweet,
it intoxicates.
