Insightful thread and the moderator should be commended for putting up on the front page. My opinions are below. Despite the wide support gathered by this administration, it has done nothing but shattered the dreams of change and hope. Accordingly, the present situation evidenced that this administration was not prepared to govern. Late appointment of ministers, poor budget planning, budget corruption and time wastage in signing the budget. We must not also rule out the frequent gaffes made by the President during interviews with foreign journalists. Certainly, every environment is faced with challenges but challenges present itself, opportunities. The Obama administration was successful in steering the American economy out of its recent recession. At this moment, I need to clarify that Nigeria depends on Oil for a majority of its foreign exchange revenue and not solely on Oil. Oil represent just 46% of Nigeria's GDP. Our problem is exporting more of our indigenous products outside this country or creating a market that desires Nigerian products. The APC led government made many promises perhaps too big enough for them to implement. They promised 1,000,000 jobs per year; N5,000 per month for unemployed Nigerians, a plate of food for Nigerian students, constant power supply, rigorous fight against corrupt persons. However, on winning the election, they began to modify their promises and outrightly denying some of them. This is also a clear evidence of poor leadership and lack of governance. To blame once is to identify the causative issue, but constant blaming is a remark of laziness. This present administration constant blaming of previous administrations is a lack of pragmatic ideas to solve problems. The entire country is aware of the pervasive corruption perpetrated by the previous administration, but constantly referring to it as a stumbling block in delivering electorate mandate is nothing but laziness. The entire country is also aware of falling prices of oil revenue, however, the country is oblivious of the action plan of this administration to either diversify the economy or solve the problem. Another indication of lack of hindsight by this present administration is on the issue of the insecurity in the country, ranging from the ethnoreligious terrorist group in the North, to political and economic terrorist group in the South-East and Niger Delta respectively. I do not aim to reduce to relative success currently being achieved in the North East, but to identify the misguided approach by this administration in handling the crisis in the South East and Niger Delta. Overall, this administration must realise that it has actually won the election and snap out of its dream state and work rigorously. It must also understand that government is a continuum and not a stage drama with different actors. This administration must understand that Nigerians are in dire need of results and not constant reminders of past situations. |
I think they should give him a break. He is young and bored or probably intends to change tradition. He already did, by giving thanksgiving in a church for becoming a traditional ruler, how funny. If he truly wants to visit, he should visit heads of states and not footballers for christsake |
I just watched a revolutionising documentary on HBO on how viruses are engineered to kill cancer cells. We all know that cancer is the most deadly disease in the world today and it does not discriminate. What makes this disease even more deadly is the lack of knowledge on what causes it. Unfortunately, I lost my mom to cancer and it hurts more than a bee sting. An experience I do not wish for my enemies. According to the documentary, measles virus are injected into clinical patients and the virus attacks cancer cells. However, the most astonishing result, it the used of HIV Virus (T-Cells) which does not discriminate against any virus. It attacks the virus cells and kills it within weeks. When I thought about it, I was like of course, how come nobody has reasoned towards that direction. Below is the link for the documentary. It was premiered today on HBO. Enjoy and please share. http://killingcancer.vice.com/ http://www.news-medical.net/news/20150713/Canadian-researchers-launch-worlds-first-viral-therapy-clinical-trial-to-attack-and-kill-cancer-cells.aspx |

naijaboy756:I think you post should be centred around poor corporate governance in Banks and honestly, in Corporate Nigeria. I was shocked to hear that the MD of Fidelity Bank was reinstated after he was released previously and this was after a public announcement made by the Bank installing an acting MD. How about Access Bank, First Bank and Sterling Bank that were caught up in the mix too. The MDs' of these Banks should have been removed regardless of whether the Board of Directors were aware of the transactions. CBN should sanction the removal. However, the CBN governor is also the Chief Implementator of the shenanigans. |
My country is a funny country. I don't know why we always love to spend money. When BP spilled oil in 2009 and they were sanctioned to clean it up, no party or inauguration was held. I understand that it is historic, but in view of the paucity of funds and current economic recession, there is no need to spend money for unnecessities. |
opalu:Your calculation is very wrong. You need to consider that some of these account holders are corporate entities and in law, corporate entities are treated as legal individual. Also, note that an individual can have more than two corporate entities. Hence, you need to further discount the calculation and I can assume that the number of individuals, that is actual living people, is less than a million. |
This governor keep acting like a local government chairman |
Nonsense that's all I think |
This is public humiliation. Many people should be praying for their name not to be on that list. I guess a lot of the corrupt people will be begging Lai to exclude their names. If you ask me, I believe this is the way to go about it. If you steal, you get the shame. Every Nigerians will now know those people who have been robbing the country blind. I expect to see some popular names, however, those popular ones have no shame already. |
A town reachable only by water or air. Don't these communities have governors? What have they been doing to provide bridges for these people to commute? |
ganisucks:They are jokers. Hiding in bushes and creeks to spill nonsense. The same jokes Boko Haram ranted about and when the military was ready they ran to sambisa and now crying for negotiation. You cannot fight a government and win. Why are they ranting to international community and tagging CNN. All what Buhari needs is to label them criminals. Just as the avengers have boasted about procuring sophisticated weapons, we might just be glad to support the government to borrow money and buy more sophisticated weapons. If they are really serious about engaging the military, they should leave pipelines alone and release the first shot. I know some of them come to nairaland to read comments. We are not sympathetic to your case. Avengers are criminals not freedom fighters. Leave pipelines alone and fight like men if you are brave. |
Standing5:The army is fully aware. He feels he is deceiving the world. |
They can assist the military by giving out their location. At this moment we don't want epistles. If they are brave enough, reveal your location. I'm certain that the military would be glad to engage them since the avengers have procured sophisticated weaponry. |
This is nothing but pure grievance and like someone has previously said, I think Tomopolo has a hand in this directly or indirectly. There is also the possibility that the contract termination by this administration triggered this issue. Please can Nigerians ignore all sentiments and label this avengers as enemies of the state. The government must not dialogue with them and I think the amnesty was a clear mistake from day one. Criminality must be eradicated and not rewarded. |
cephaswizzy:What is wonderful about them? What kind of useless comment is this? Soft target! I think the military is kind. They should ignore the idiots and go after their family. That's how soft the military should act. |
What I don't understand from the OP is his quick label of hate when someone gives a different opinion. It appears like the entire Nigeria hates the Ijaw ethnic group. OP if you are certain about the innocence of the suspects, get them a lawyer. I believe you are in the wrong place for assistance and you also need to be careful about the way you talk. You can observe that 90 percent of those who have commented are not expressing empathy and I believe it is due to your attitude. Nigeria, presently, is experiencing a lot of challenges. The Avengers are creating serious problems for the country and I believe majority of Nigerians are tired of the militancy in the Niger Delta and it has to end. In my own opinion, if the Niger Deltans do not want military encoachment which includes the arrest of innocent civilians, raping of women and abuse of privileges, they need to bring out those boys responsible or tell the authorities where to find them. Those who blow up pipelines are not ghosts. They belong to communities. People must have seen or hear about their activities. No need for the Niger Deltans to cry foul now, produce and denounce these economic terrorists so that you can enjoy your peace. Regards |
meccuno:Then don't look and act suspicious. |
What is the senator trying to infer? I don't get it. He should know that he has been hypocritical about the president's decisions. I believe the DSS aides were confused and surprised to see a senator who claims not to like the president on social media going to greet him in person. In their confused state they tried to protect the president. Sorry senator, but you are wailing like a petulant child. |
4nobody4every1:I don't get it. I just think Nigerians are deceiving themselves and are yet to tell themselves the truth that they are lazy and are looking for a quick means of wealth. They rather visit religious Centres to pray rather than work for progress. Guess what, Nigerians have been doing this for many years and expect change - you can imagine. |
I would be more excited if the FG apprehend their sponsors because those avengers are largely sponsored by aggrieved persons. The Niger Delta has been enjoying relative peace brought about by the amnesty programme. It is a shame that some group of criminal elements would collectively decide to rob their communities from enjoying peace. |
I saw this thread and decided to read comments. I weep for this country, if 90 percent of the people, who are expected to be youths, can congratulate a governor for engaging in mediocre activity like this. This is one of the ways they suppress people - continue to keep their people in poverty. The Nigerian situation is not an ethnic crisis but a political class against the masses. The political class want to continue remaining in power and ensure that the masses do not escape poverty. A huge reason they will NEVER invest in education, but will give you keke to go and collect N50 per passenger. |
Gombs:So he can share keke to you. |
Tompolo is shaking in his boots. One particular point he raised is pipeline contractors conniving with locals to destroy pipelines so that they can get more jobs. Well there is a possibility that is may be true. Niger Delta leaders must rise up and label this avengers as criminals because peace is about to be stolen from them. The soldiers will make life miserable for all residents. |
I read a comment where someone describe the finance minister as merely a salary paymaster. I guess this news confirms its further. I can infer from her activities that she is mainly focus on identifying ghost workers during salary payment. How will the economy bounce back, the minister says old investors are coming back. I wonder where they get this sort of persons to become minister |
I don't believe this story. If the fire power was superior, the soldiers should have caught the militants |
A clear evidence of a dysfunctional home. I guess the mother would be excited not being aware that she has also created a monster. The psychological effect of this can be overwhelming, if only selfish parents would consider their actions. I would blame the mother critically and seriously because a fight takes two and not particularly one sided, however, the mother has succeeded to make a devil out of the man and that is the way the young child perceives her father |
kayfra:Thanks for saving me the stress of typing. We have a lot of ignorant people in Nigeria. What I would imagine an intelligent person to do is google Eurobond for good understanding. If you ask me this is even a good time to borrow from the Eurozone, they have negative to little interest rate. |
Every reasonable living Ekiti State resident must do themselves some good by protesting for the impeachment of Fayose. What this clearly depicts is that the Governor lacks the innovative skills to allocate scarce resources and evidence clearly that the State is in comatose. We can forecast from the Governor's attitude that for the next 3 years, there will be no infrastructural development in the state and consequently, the state will remain stagnant with respect to other states in the country. It is a shame that the good people of Ekiti settle for a nuisance as a governor. |
As a staunch supporter of Buhari, I agree with Reno on some points on this write-up. Buhari is supposed to be the chief ambassador of this country and should be promoting and marketing his country positively. We are in a competitive world with scarce resources. Investors are critically reviewing their decision and considering where best to put their money. However, the recent comments made by the president is rather very regrettable. I also agree with Reno on Buhari not being aware of the economic situation in the country. Do his issues with the media devoid him of seeing the reality on the ground or are his cabinets hiding the truth from him? I read Adesina interview where he denied that Nigerians are not faring well under Buhari. Certainly, it shows that there is a communication gap between the president and his aides in informing him of the actual situation in the country. This economic situation in the country continues to evidence further, that the President and his team never had any concrete plan on managing and positioning the Nigerian economy to be the hub in Africa. However, I disagree with Reno on anti-corruption practices of the President. The President is not the judiciary which, unfortunately, it also perceived to be corrupt. I also disagree with Reno on Nigeria's economy being the best during his Boss' tenure. Actually, Nigeria's economy was at its best during Obasanjo's tenure and Jonathan's administration witnessed tremendous mismanagement of economic resources, even when Nigeria was earning its highest revenue from Oil since independence. Overall, the President must find time to peruse from other sources of information, especially from critics, if he intends to gain a fair view of the actual situation in the country. The President must also at this time review the performance of his aides, especially his ministers, as some of them are virtually absence in performing their functions. Also, the President must swallow his pride and consider expert advice on the best way to improve the economic situation of the country. Finally, whilst we appreciate the undiluted honesty of the President, he must realise the at some certain points, the truth is better not said or rather said with some scepticism. May God save and restore Nigeria. |
Goke7:Good analysis. I believe they were using government funds to sustain their business. Now they are in a fix and their survival will depend on how innovative and competitive they are. As usual, the oil marketers want things easy. |
Joe Igbokwe was asked a simple question and he used the opportunity to call the PDP names. If he is unaware of the amount spent, he should have asked. Pertinent questions raised by the PDP is - why did Ambode spend N3.2bn for the president's visitation that never took place? - why is the president visiting Lagos to commission repairs of roads? These are serious questions that requires urgent answers. |
