CareerRe: Software Engineer Or Chartered Accountant? by Bossman(m): 9:38pm On Dec 16, 2021
The absolute truth. There is a lot burnout in this field. Anything that pays well is not easy. It's not everyone that can take on deployment or production support on Friday and Saturday night. And these can go on for hours. Nevertheless, I would still advice OP to go for Software Engineering/ It definitely has a better future.

Stephen0mozzy:
This is the most honest submission so far.

Software Engineering is a life time non-stop learning field o.. And not for the lily livered... You keep learning new releases, getting certifications upon certification... But if you love creating automated solutions.. Welcome to SEng

I had a similar issue. Passport had full long name such as Olayemi Chukwuemeka, But my NIN was pulled via the BVN info and it had Yemi Chukwu. Most other docs have the long name, except my bank info. I had to change the NIN info to match.

joshbill:
Please, someone should provide me counsel

I just came back from the passport office at Alausa now

I was told I have issues with my NIN
On my old passport, there is no middle name
But on my NIN there's a Middlename

ProgrammingRe: Should I Take This Job?(photo) by Bossman(m): 11:39pm On Dec 12, 2021
I could not have said it better. I took C/C++ in school as well So the solid foundation made the transition to other languages easier. As mentioned, understanding the fundamentals is key. And it needs to be understood thoroughly!

Alusiizizi:
Might seem so, but trust me, no lies here. The thing about programming languages, if you understand one, you understand them all. One of the first programming languages that I learned in school was C/C++, and learned rigorously. The reason why? If you didn't have a good understanding of the language, you couldn't pass the associated classes, period! This new found knowledge also came with insight into programming languages in general. Peculiar syntax is irrelevant. Open a book on programming and the first 6~7 chapters treat(almost invariably) the same subjects.
1) Hello world
2) Arithmetic/Logical operators
3) Logical commands(if..then else/Case() e.t.c)
4) Functions and arguments(pass by reference/Value)
5) Loops
6) Arrays
7)Structures/Classes

In C/C++ pointers would begin at the next chapter and be treated with 2~3 additional chapters afterwards. Trust my first hand experience, If you are able to master C/C++, then it'll be very difficult to find a programming syntax that you couldn't master, and quickly at that.

Absolutely! well said. As long as his bottom line is met, it's a great investment.

Yes, electricity drives everything. It's Just so unfortunate that Nigeria is in this mess!

staga:
If it can guarantee him electricity to get his freelance work done without missing deadlines and losing customers (which I have experienced in the past), then it is a perfect investment. This is one thing I am getting having lived in Ghana and Barbados. Constant electricity is a must to be able to generate enough economic activity to work and have a good living.

Nigerians do not know what they are losing by not having enough electricity and then having to depend on noisy, environmentally damaging generators.
ProgrammingRe: What's The Easiest Path For Beginners? by Bossman(m): 6:20pm On Nov 30, 2021
There is no easy or quick path when it comes to programming. If there is, everyone will be doing it, and it will not be as lucrative as it is. The key thing is to learn the basics of programming very well, regardless of the language you use. As others mentioned, Python or Java are good programming languages to start with. Once you have got a good grasp of programming fundamentals, then you can decide if you want to do UI front end development or you want to focus on the backend. There never used to be a separation back in the days....we had to know both front-end and back-end development. So pick your language, and hit the ground running. Good luck!
PropertiesRe: How I Managed Light Situation In My Apartment (DIY Guide) by Bossman(m):
Very nice post OP. And, good work on your part.
However, it's a real shame that one has to go through this just to get somewhat constant power supply. The country has failed its citizens! I mean...inverter, solar, generator, etc. just to get power. And upon it all, one may still not get enough enjoy all the benefits of constant electricity. what a country!

CareerRe: Career Advice Needed. Remain In Dubai Or Accept An Employment Offer In Berlin? by Bossman(m): 4:32pm On Nov 24, 2021
I will suggest you go with the software/programming job in Germany. Technology is the future. I am sure you know that. Once you get your feet wet with that job, the job offers with HUGE salaries will start rolling in. It's actually a no brainer.
TravelRe: Cost Of A Nigeria International Passport by Bossman(m): 4:47am On Nov 06, 2021
You may be okay. Not sure anyone is 100% certain on this. However, you may want to make the corrections to your NIN so that it matches your passport. Because eventually NIN will be required at all passport locations. That's the plan of the government and it will happen sooner than later.

One does not neccesarily need to learn it via python. One just needs to learn the fundamentals of programming in general. It could be python, Java, etc. Specifically, if/else, loops, simple data structures, etc.

neurosci:
How much python do you think is necessary, if you don't mind me asking? For me, python was a walk in the park until I got to linked lists, bid-0 and recursion. Do you think one needs to go that far?

You only need the Nigerian passport while traveling to Nigeria. So that's the only time I bring it with me. It has very limited use outside of Nigeria.

Exactly! He will need to show identification matching the current identification in the system.

That was then... If you are not the one that registered sim, its 100% not possible to do welcome back (especially MTN) . NIN is the main culprit here

It will need to be done by the person that registered it. Sine the sim currently belongs to them in the system.

At the current prices of properties there, it will be mostly those that stole money, some entertainers, and business tycoons that can afford to live there. An overwhelming Majority of Nigerians will not be able to. Properties there are listed in $ btw.

Some valid points are made here regarding working remotely, for the same high salary, with relatively cheaper cost of living. However, we need to remember that constant power supply and uninterrupted (and very good) internet connection are the key to making that work. As a software guy myself, I have visited Nigeria and have tried to do a bit of remote work on some occasions. It's usually not a very pleasant experience, due to the not so reliable internet connection.

Cousin9999:
I was going to pick your comment apart, but you made a lot of valid points.

That said, generally speaking, you would have to be a fool to actually leave the shores of Africa as coder. Here's why:

- Coders can be based anywhere, and continental immigration has less bureaucracy. Why waste money and effort on the immigration process?

- The average COL for an African city is modest. Why turn down living among your own people in a good city while earning a western salary, or better yet, passively earning from a project you did years ago?

- There are plenty of African nations with little drama and good infrastructure. Why go to some Asian or eastern European toilet, when you have all the resources you need at home?

The only good reason to go abroad is for the specific experience and training that you get working in-house at a large multinational. But 2-4 years is plenty of time to do it. After that, you're just making them rich, getting crumbs, and living an undesirable lifestyle. Contracting as well as doing your own projects would be infinitely better. And the money you earn will have you living like royalty in Africa.

I'm just trying to imagine why someone would rather be in Poland or Vietnam working long hours and stressing about bills while dealing with racism instead of: working when they want to work, collecting passive income, living in a large luxury condo, taking care of family financially, spending most of their time with family or traveling, saving a lot of money, investing, and more. The only exception would be a C-suite job with a very high salary. Other than that, what makes it worth it?

No, you can't. You have to enter the icloud password for the account it was locked to. Without that, you can't do much with it. And that's why it's being offered at reduced price.

TravelRe: Changing The Date Of Birth On My International Passport by Bossman(m): 1:22am On Aug 09, 2021
The bank that did the BVN should be able to change it. Just request for BVN modification form. Yes, the change does not affect the NIN. You will do the NIN modification at the NIMC office.

Tamee:
Hello, how did you make corrections on yout BVN? I was told that whatever corrections done at the bank doesn't reflect on NIMC portal/database as they will still have the old/incorrect info captured. Pls reply

You will need to change it with NIMC. I'm surprised they didn't tell you that.

Hello. The bank that did my bvn used a wrong dob and gender, I went there to complain and they changed it, even printed a bvn slip for me with the corrected info. But on trying to get my NIN, I was told the correction did not reflect on NIMCs portal. What can I do to rectify this, can you help pls? Who do I pay? Do I need to go to Abuja?

That's totally different from using a tutor to learn programming. You can study for and take whatever certifications you desire on your own.
