PhonesRe: Galaxy A30 Thread by Bossman(m): 9:20pm On Sep 02, 2019
Nice specs. However, LTE band 7, which is important if you are using MTN, is not listed. I suspect a typo though. Also, LTE band 28, Glo's main LTE band is not listed. Though Glo is beginning to deploy LTE on band 3 as well.

I concur totally! We are automating everything. And it's the wave of the future. So for sustainable employment it's advisable to go into any of the fields involved with automation.
At least people still go into the bank in Naija. Here in the USA, you rarely see any customer in the bank. There is no reason for it. You would rarely see any retail bank with more than 3 employees. All those jobs are long gone!

I've always wanted to be a pilot( I want to jet around the world for free), so I decided to go for my private pilot license in 2015. He said, by 2030 aeroplane will fly themselves and they'd rather study engineering or Information technology, I was dumbfounded.

Check your phone specs at GSMArena. To know what LTE band you are connected to you can use LTE discovery app.

PhonesRe: Airtel 4G LTE Vs Mtn 4G LTE Speed Test Enugu by Bossman(m): 1:56pm On Aug 14, 2019
It all depends on location though. When I was there I was averaging between 45 - 60 Mbps down on MTN 4G in the Ikeja area. GLO was about 4 - 8 Mbps down on 4G. The 4g/LTE speeds are slowly getting better though, horrible 4G speeds on the part of GLO. And it was not due to congestion, because I was using a device with LTE band 28, which was not on most of the devices there.

TravelRe: Etihad Airways Deploys Boeing Dreamliner On Lagos Route by Bossman(m): 4:42pm On Aug 04, 2019
I agree the 787 dreamliner was quite comfortable. It was always a pleasant experience when United flew this aircraft between Houston and Lagos starting in 2012. Until they stopped that route in 2016. I really miss that Houston to Lagos route with United. Now it's either with Delta, or having to go through Europe.

IT in general is a broad field, which includes software development/,programming, networking, etc. I'd suggest you do some research on the different fields in IT, to see which one may work for you.

It's important to choose something that you'll enjoy doing. And to not choose it just because it pays well.

PhonesRe: The Galaxy A Series! by Bossman(m): 6:35pm On Jul 10, 2019
I think the version sold in Nigeria does not. The Latin America version does. See link below. Same thing with the A50. I have the Latin America version, A505, purchased from B & H, and it supports LTE band 28.

Correct. Supports 3g/4g bands for the usa. So only usable on 2g bands in Naija. Honestly, not a good phone to purchase for use in Nigeria. However, it's definitely a good buy if purchasing to use in the USA for example.

There are multiple versions (see below) of that phone. Which one is yours? Only the first 2 have band 28. However, if GLO 4G now works on band 8 as well, as mentioned, then your device, and most others, should now support GLO 4G.

From GSMArena:
Versions: G935F (Global); G935FD (Southeast Asia, India); G9350 (Hong Kong); G935W8 (Canada)

PhonesRe: I Just Got The New Samsung A10 by Bossman(m): 6:40pm On Jun 04, 2019
The A series seem to be very solid device considering the price and the features you get. I got the A50 as a backup device on B &H photo myself a little over a month ago. Will not be released here in the US till later this month, so got the Latin American version which has all the LTE bands used here anyway. So far so good with it. Enjoy your device!

Before JideSM responds, I will post my experience. Bottom line, only the person whose details are registered with the SIM will be able to retrieve it. For me, I tried to swap a SIM my sister registered in her name, to 4G sim, and they will not do it, unless my sister is present and does the request herself. Thank God it was just a back up SIM. And my main MTN SIM is registered in my name. So I already have a 4g SIM for that line. Good luck!

I mistakenly blocked my sim this morning, and it's requesting for PUK,i don't remember it,problem is i wasn't the one that registered the sim,my old friend did,and used her details, called customer care, they were telling me to make the girl call them so they will give her d numbers, babe hardly knows how to operate phone,i know she will not able to get through to them. Please how do i unlock my sim now?..

Have you looked into the Xiaomi devices? This is coming from someone that has used Iphone, Samsung, Nexus, etc. The Xiaomi devices are full featured and quite reasonable. I am currently using a Xiaomi Mi Mix2 here on AT&T in the US. It also supports tons of LTE bands including 28. Will be using it on MTN/GLO when I visit Naija next week.

4G bands - LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 27(800), 28(700), 29(700), 30(2300), 34(2000), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)

I am specifically talking about compared to Chicago. Chicago is usually compared to New York, Boston, and other 'alpha' cities when talking about job creativity and opportunities. Totally different leagues when we are talking about jobs and major presence of large companies.

Considering the number of big companies that are either headquartered or have a major presence in the Chicagoland area, it's hard to believe that. I work in IT and have come across quite a few people that have moved here from Houston. It's for the same reason...the number if IT job opportunities in Chicago compared to Houston.

Exactly! They are all the same usual shitty service to Lagos. Excellent service from US, then everything changes on the Europe to Lagos leg. Be it BA, KLM, Air France, Lufthansa, Iberia, I've flown them all. The mostly use old aircraft on the Lagos route.

I wonder if folks from those African countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, that have their own thriving airlines get treated the same way.

Beautyaddy:
What's so special about him going through London.

BA is not any better with customers service towards Nigerians on routes from Heathrow to Lagos.
TravelRe: My Nigerian Trip by Bossman(m): 10:43am On Jan 04, 2019
I'm with you on the issue with these airlines and the way they treat Nigerians. Not all their fault though. I go to Lagos 2 times a year so I have flown several of the European airlines from here (Chicago to Lagos). Was only flying United, until they cancelled the direct flight from Houston a couple of years ago. So back to the old way of going through Europe. Experienced the same Crap service with Lufthansa a few months ago. O'Hare to Frankfurt was excellent, however Frankfurt to Lagos Crap! Flew BA in March...I could not believe when they announced boarding at LHR and Nigerians started rushing and all sorts of commotion. I agree that we need to act respectful if we want to be treated with respect.

svensson, I believe this is good advice. Unless you have something going in Nigeria, that will generate constant income for you, I wold not leave where you are to go to Nigeria at this moment. As it is, you have already been short changed on your hard earned money. I am in a similar situation - I'd love to have something build there, but for the twice/year 2 week visit that I spend there, it's just not worth the headache to secure land and try to build. I've decided to just secure land for investment purposes, and look towards purchasing a flat in some multi-unit construction. For now, my funds are in Fixed deposit in a couple of banks. Even my sister that build a big old house there, locks it up for at least 7 months out of the year, since she spends most of her time in the UK. The people that built next to her only lived in it for 2 years, before packing up and moving back the UK. House is up for sale now. Bottom line - moving back to live in Nigeria needs to be thought out very well. Good luck!
