But we also work like crazy though...LOL!. Especially those of us on the application design/development side of IT. Alexandre7: I believe the U.S. still remains number one for IT Professionals.
They do make a lot of money.
But UK gets bumped to number two because I heard Professional IT contractors make a lot of money as well.
So Australia & Canada are tied for the third spot. |

I believe you are referring to E-gates. And can be used by those carrying a passport from the countries in the attached image. Captured from Heathrow CPB page. Alexandre7: I’m not completely sure but I do know that on the Big Screen T.V. there’re two lanes:
Lane One (which’s the smart gate): British Citizens, EU Citizens, U.S. Citizens, Canadian Citizens, Australian Citizens & New Zealand Citizens
Lane Two (which’s the regular Line): Other Nationalities
Maybe I completely missed where it’s written that Japanese, Singaporeans & South Koreans are allowed to use the smart gate,
I’m not really sure at this point but will make an effort to double check on my way back to the states if I decide to make another stop in London.

Charles Tyrwhitt and T. M. Lewin dress and casual shirts are pretty good as well. You may want to consider those too. MackyNaija: Awon boyz...
In my 3 weeks sabbatical, I have been doing fashion sampling, tryna found out the best bang for your buck when it comes to office dress shirts.
I have tried most brands - Chaps, Polo, a few Tommy, Gap no get sensible office button down etc etc but I will announce the winner.
And the winner is....
Drum rollllllllll.... Rolllllllllllllllllll....
Nautica! 100% cotton, Slim fit, collars are pinned down by buttons and they have great collars. Other brands deh learn. Buy them and you'll enjoy them.
There are not too expensive in the larger sense. $25 - $40 a piece depending on where you buy. Outlets malls are good places to find them. |

You have to be here legally on the right visa that will allow you to work. If you are here and get married to a citizen, you'll receive your work permit once you apply. You can Google for "how to get a USA work permit". Tons of information out there. Denique: Sorry for my many questions. How can one get work permit? |
Travel › Re: Yankee: through the eyes of a village boy. by Bossman(m): 5:44pm On Dec 05, 2019 |
You can work with a work permit. It's not the green card that gives you an SSN. As long as you are a legal resident here, you can get a SSN. So, this person is probably working with a work permit. The process is usually Work Permit ->Green Card-> Citizenship/Naturalization. Denique: I thought one couldn't get a job without a GC as it allows them have the SSN? Pls clarify. |

You can't go wrong with Java. At least here in the USA, it's in high demand. And has been for a very long time. Even my daughter who is a junior in high school is taking a programming class, and Java is the language they are using. DrManhattan: hi...quick one, which programming language do freelancers use more often...like which is more in demand in the freelance market ?? |
Programming › Re: Web Development: How Much Will It Cost To Learn? by Bossman(m): 6:13pm On Nov 26, 2019 |
Well said. I strongly advice against paying someone to learn web development/programming. Everything you need is at your fingerprints. You just need to aquire the tools and dedicate yourself. Olalekank: This is 2019. You don't need to go to anyone's house or "school" to learn how to develop for the web.
However, here are some of the things that learning would have to cost you - A laptop - Internet - Light
Referencing one of my previous posts
You can start with web development
1. Go on YouTube and type "Introduction to web development" Watch a few videos to get an intro on what to do to get started
2. Visit W3Schools.com and go through some of their tutorials on HTML and CSS
3. Google mini projects you can work on with HTML and CSS
4. Learn responsive web design, with Flexbox and/or grid
5. Repeat step 3
6. Learn JavaScript and make sure to understand it's intricacies. Build some projects with it and make sure to understand the DOM
7. Pick any framework. I recommend React and learn
8. Work on react projects
9. Apply to jobs
10. Get a job
All of the above steps seem easy, but to be honest, they are not Make sure to code everyday and try to understand what you are doing Make sure to use stackoverflow when searching for answers Timebox yourself for these steps above. Ideally, with 25 hours a week for the next 3 months, you should be good
25 hours: {3 hours per day from Monday to Friday, 5 hours during weekends} |

Yes. Had my GLO sim in it when I visited last month. 4G everywhere. Mostly on band 28 when I check via LTE discovery app. My MTN was in a different phone. LTE was 100% on band 3. I must say though, GLO LTE speeds are just so so. MTN had awesome LTE speeds that rival what I see here on AT&T. Adinije: Thanks for your contributions, but I don't mean by 'quote' . I mean if you have inserted any of the sims in it and it works. |

The 2 models listed on GSMarena do not list band 28. Unless may be the one sold in Nigeria is different. Depending on area though, having band 28 on Glo may not be critical. Since they are now deploying their LTE on band 3 as well. https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_8-9814.phpdukeo: Please confirm that it has 4G band 28 |

I'd suggest you continue in Engineering since that's what you were already doing. As already mentioned, you will need to get a Master's here in a similar field. As for Software Dev. certifications, there are tons out there. It depends if you want to focus on any specific programming language. Of course, you have to learn the language thoroughly before taking the certification. I can only speak for Java - https://education.oracle.com/java/java/pFamily_48Paccus: Thanks a lot, reading you and Bossman comments just put smile on my face, i asked based on your last comment, making good wage from what you love is very important considering the cost of Education in USA... Personally i can never do Nursing, But seems everyone was just saying go into Nursing if you immigrate, it was getting me confused because i want to continue in my Engineering field but people just discourage me that since my First degree is in Nigeria it will affect me even if i get my Masters in the US but i am willing to take that risk now.. I will also start to put small eyes in IT from now on and maybe get 1 or 2 certifications as a second choice here in Nigeria first(Bossman which certifications/software do you suggest, i don't know anything about IT oo, Engineers na AutoCAD, Solidworks, ANSYS, PDMS etc we sabi oo, lol) for when i eventually move |
Travel › Re: Naija to Yankee Thoughts And Experiences by Bossman(m): 9:49am On Oct 18, 2019 |
Correct. Nurses are in demand. And it will even get better, due to the aging population. In general, Engineers are in demand as well. Depending on specific engineering area of course. On salary/rate basis alone, IT software developers/engineers earn higher than nurses. However, nurses can work overtime, which will certainly increase their take home pay. Paccus: i think its the demand that makes Nigerians go into Nursing or IT or are they paid better than Engineers?? Is there no demand for Engineers?? |

Unfortunately, purchasing these vehicles to use in Nigeria is a waste! To really appreciate these cars, that need to be taken on the highway, on long road trips, or through the back county side. And really appreciate what marvelous machines they are. Just so unfortunate with the horrible roads we have in Naija. |

I have the Xiaomi Mi mix 2 Global and the Galaxy A50, using them on AT&T here int he USA. I swap between both every month or so. One word, I always look forward to it when it's time to switch back to my Mi Mix 2. Of course, it's a more advanced device and a bit more expensive. May be not an equal comparison, because the Xiaomi is just better in so many ways. |
Programming › Re: [Advice] For New Programmers, what server-Side Programming Language Is The Best? by Bossman(m): 8:47am On Oct 08, 2019 |
These are all different languages that Excel in different areas. The key thing is to use the best tool for a particular job. More importantly, once you learn the core principles of software development, you can easily move from one programming language. I will say this though, here in the USA, a huge majority of the corporations use Java. And it has been that way for a very long time. It's quite easy to find a job/contract, and the pay is quite good. |

Phones › Re: The Galaxy A Series! by Bossman(m): 5:43pm On Sep 23, 2019 |
I have to agree with some of the above statements. I have the A50 and it's a decent phone (screen batter, etc). However, my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is a step above the A50, and is a better device overall. Even the 3400 mAh battery on the Mix 2 lasts longer than the 4000 mAH on the A50. I switch between these 2 devices every 2 weeks or so on AT&T, and have done all sorts of comparisons. The Mix 2 is just better. Of course it helps that it has a faster processor/RAM. |
