FamilyRe: High Earning Professions, List Them Here by Bossman(m): 12:41am On Feb 08, 2015
Here in the US, Any of the Engineering/Software Development professions are high earners. Nurses also earn a lot. As a software Developer (consulting), I'll speak to that effect. Depending on negotiation skills, anyone with a few years of Software development experience can easily earn upwards of $60/hr here in the Midwest US. Experienced Nurses upwards of $42/hr, but more importantly, they can change jobs like changing clothes. Wife is one, so I know.

ProgrammingRe: Understanding The Syllabus Of Computer Sience (the Importance Of Discrete Maths) by Bossman(m): 2:32pm On Jan 22, 2015
Absolutely! A solid understanding of discrete mathematics is essential if one wants to be a "real" problem solver/software developer.

PhonesRe: 4GLTE Experience In Nigeria by Bossman(m): 6:53pm On Jan 19, 2015
Were any of these speed tests, specifically MTN, taken during the day? I use MTN and GLO when I visit, and seriously, they are almost non usable for data during the day. Just too damn slow...if one can connect at all. Between midnight and 5 am or so, the speed is ok. I am assuming it's still the same. This is in the Ogba area.

I am not sure any of the GSM carriers (GLO, MTN, etc.) are offering LTE yet.
ProgrammingRe: Help Debug This Java Code by Bossman(m): 6:36pm On Dec 22, 2014
As others mentioned - your code looks fine. Make sure Box and MatchBox are in the same package. You may want to declare Box as "public", otherwise it will be put in the default package. Good luck!
PhonesRe: AT&T Galaxy Note 4 Receives HD Voice Via Firmware Update by Bossman(m): 1:24pm On Dec 03, 2014
If and when the update is available for your device, you will get a message to download and install it. I got the message for my Nexus 4 last week. So, I did the update to lollipop. My other android device has not received the update message yet.
ProgrammingRe: Help With A Java Project... by Bossman(m): 3:25pm On Nov 20, 2014
This is not an overly difficult assignment, even for a beginner. The assignment gave very useful pointers. You are better of trying to accomplish this yourself, and then if you get stuck, you can post here, and folks will try to help you out. Why - Because, in the "real" world, you will have to know it. You will be tested, and they will find out quickly if you do not know the stuff. I'd suggest writing out the algorithm/steps on paper, then start to implement/code one step at a time. Post back here and let us know what you have done and where you are having difficulty.
TravelRe: Have You Ever Missed A Flight? by Bossman(m): 4:06pm On Nov 06, 2014
Air France likely paid the full fare for a day. It's just that checkout time at hotels is usually between 11 am- 12 PM. Regardless of when you checked in.

justwise:
Yes I have and the experience is a tasteless one.

Was supposed to get a connecting flight to Hong Kong via Paris but missed it because of delay at healthrow, we got to Paris at 11.59pm and the next flight to Hong Kong is 11pm next day. Those with transit visa and EU citizens were quickly taken to hotel while some of us were made to wait ages while air France sort out transit visa for us but my ordeal did not end there.

I was finally taken to a hotel at about 2am thinking that air France paid for the whole duration but I was wrong, they paid till 12pm. When I woke up, had my breakfast then went out sightseeing around Paris, came back around 2pm to found out that my swipe card has been disabled locking me out of the hotel room.

It was then that I was told that air France paid for half day, I went straight to the airport to confront air France but they refused to pay for the remaining hours only offered to pay for my lunch while I spent the remaining hours at the airport.
Tech JobsRe: Personal Programming Tutor Needed Urgently. by Bossman(m): 5:20pm On Oct 28, 2014
I personally do not think you need a personal tutor. You just need to start with baby steps and master the basics as you move on to more complex stuff. Most programmers are self trained. Also, no matter how much personal training you get, if you do not have the logical thinking and deductive reasoning skills to be a developer, you will have a very hard time.
PhonesRe: MTN Customer Care Thread by Bossman(m): 11:35am On Aug 28, 2014
I am in the USA as well. Those SMS short codes don't work while roaming. Unless one of the MTN reps. here can do something, I think you are out of luck.

dholla1: Hello, I'm currently roaming my MTN line in the USA. I would like to renew the BIS which has expired. There is sufficient airtime on my phone but I'm unable to send an sms to 21600 (roaming network is Tmobile). Please advise if there is a workaround for this. Thanks.

Thanks Jide.

JideSM: Y'ello Bossman, please walk in to any of our Walk-In Centers for your micro-sim.
The sim would be cut or welcome back done on your line to a micro-sim.
PhonesRe: MTN Customer Care Thread by Bossman(m): 8:41pm On Dec 30, 2013
Is it possible to go an MTN office and have my regular sim/number transferred over to a micro-sim? I do not want to take the chance of trying to cut it myself. All my devices now use micro-sim. No problem if I need to purchase the micro-sim.

Thanks.
TravelRe: Abandoning Nigeria's Good Life For The Us,its A Blessing If.... by Bossman(m): 4:07am On Oct 06, 2013
Well said Goldebboy007 - There are opportunities here as long as you are here legally , and you can work hard. I am in Chicago as well BTW. I work downtown as an IT consultant (Application development) with a major Health care company. There are actually quite a few of us down there. The key things, as you mentioned - get a solid background/education, be professional, and work hard. You can become anything. With the right skills and work ethic, you can easily make 6 figure down here.
PhonesBlackberry Board Keen To Sell Company By November by Bossman(op): 2:02pm On Sep 05, 2013
I think the African and may be Asian markets are the only ones that are keeping this company afloat. They are pretty much dead in the western world. I can not recollect anyone I know here in the US that uses the BB as a personal phone. Their failure to innovate has brought them down so quickly!

FamilyRe: Should I Keep Waiting For My Husband Or Re-marry? by Bossman(m): 5:58pm On May 03, 2013
I think the question should be - What month should I get married? Any prudent person will ask you to move on with your life. The fact that he has only been home once in 6 years indicates to me that he is not as serious with the relationship you guys have. Since he has been home in 2010, it means he already has a green card, and if anything, he should have at least started making arrangements for you and your kid to join him. As someone who is based in the US, I can tell you there is a good chance he as moved on. Good luck!
PhonesRe: Htc Inspire 3G Issue by Bossman(m): 5:55pm On Apr 04, 2013
The HTC inspire - The North American (NA) version of the HTC Desire, only has the NA 3G bands 850/1900. It does not have the 2100 3G band used in Nigeria and most other countries.

fadinus: Pls if you use or have used an htc inspire and was able to receive 3G reception on it pls let me know how u did it.

I have tried Mtn and Glo but still don't get 3G reception all i have been getting is E. If there seems to be no way to get 3G then i may have to sell it.
ProgrammingRe: Software Developers, Most of Your Jobs are Going To India! by Bossman(m): 6:02pm On Apr 03, 2013
I concur. Yes, there are definitely skillful developers in Nigeria, and skilful Nigerian developers working overseas. But when we are talking about numbers, there just is not enough. Of course, most companies in Nigeria tend to outsource, and there are reasons for that. The level of computer science/programming education in Nigeria is just not on par. it has to start with he schools, access to resources, etc.

Actually, here in the US, the companies will not rather have the development done on ground, rather than offshore. so, there is high demand for top tech talent. I have been consulting in this field for a long time, and I can tell you, this is the field to be in right now, especially if you have top skills. For those of you that are aspiring to be a developer/programmer, do not let anyone discourage you.

lordZOUGA: *applause* Nigerians don't even have enough skillful developers. skills first before we start worrying about business.

TravelRe: Traveling To Mexico General Enquiries by Bossman(m): 3:58am On Mar 09, 2013
Been to Mexico on vacation a few times. Basically to Puerto Vallarta and Cozumel. A nice place to vacation BTW. Yes, as mentioned, there are not too many blacks there. The few times we ventured of the resort, we stood out. My daughter had braids in her hair. Some locals wanted to take pictures with her, and others wanted to touch her hair. LOL! Within the touristy areas, they are used to blacks, since a lot of Americans visit those places.
Car TalkRe: Benz vs BMW vs Audi: Pure German Machines! by Bossman(m): 6:29am On Feb 25, 2013
I agree - There are advantages and disadvantages of each. Especially when we start to get into specific models. I own a 2011 535xi. Which, IMO, looks better than the benz in the same category. It's debatable compared to the audi. Performance wise, I'll give the edge to the Audi.
ProgrammingRe: Difference Between Game Developer & Computer Programmer by Bossman(m): 9:16am On Feb 22, 2013
NO! There is no difference between a game programmer and a computer programmer. A game programmer (no matter how complex it is), is still a computer programmer, period!

It amazes me why we like to argue over unnecessary things in these forums.

ProgrammingRe: IT Career Advice Needed by Bossman(m): 5:55pm On Dec 28, 2012
Don't know what it's called at your specific school - But in general, Software engineering, computer science, computer programming, all are the same thing. You will be learning how software is developed and used to solve problems. Using a specific programming language of course.

IT, as used generally, means Information Technology. As for what IT jobs are, that is a very broad question. It spans from networking, application development/programming, Database management, etc.

ahmedgafar7: I'm a little bit confused about
this....if I want to become a
software engineer or
programmer....will I read software
engineering or programming as a
course or I will read computer
science as a course....and what ȋ̝̊̅§
exactly IT,what are IT jobs
PhonesRe: #UNIVERSAL GSM CODES# by Bossman(m): 10:54am On Dec 18, 2012
I believe this company should be investigated for fraud. I just received a txt from 8888 on my GLO sim that my subscription to weight gain has been renewed and charged 100 naira. I certainly did not subscribe to anything. Heck! Those codes do not work while roaming, as I am in the US. I have no choice but to wait till I get to Naija in a few months to cancel the damn thing. What a joke!

georgecso: Please how can l deactivate messages sent from 8888 Glo network?
TravelRe: Nigerian Grad Getting A Job In The US by Bossman(m): 4:52pm On Dec 11, 2012
It's certainly possible - First you have to be on ground. You may need to do menial jobs for a few months to get things sorted out. Also, more importantly, it depends on your background. Most "real" professional jobs will require a diploma/certificate from the US. Unfortunately, most companies do not give much regard to Degrees from Nigeria.
