My question is why didn't Jesus actually identify himself to His disciples, nor to anybody else in this matter.
When we read the scriptures Jesus didn't directly call Himself the Son of God, nor did He claim to be God. This information came from else where' written in the scriptures' who Jesus is.
Jesus always claimed to be the Son of man, or "I Am" He spoke only of His Father. He said' "I Am the Father are one.
Jesus would agree on everything that was rightly said about Him, and it was God who spoke about His Son Jesus' either through others to get His message across. Or God would Say this is My Son in Him I Am well pleased.
God's message had travelled the land, even The woman said I know the Messiah is coming and Jesus said "I Am He. God spoke through Thomas and said" My Lord and My God. God also spoke through Peter, You are the Son of the living God.
So dolphinheart don't jump to far ahead of yourself, you have completely lost your mark.

We can go back in time, when we see all the artefacts from the Egyptians back in those day, many of the Egyptians back then were either black or dark brown.
{Revelation 1:14-15} His head and His hair were like wool, as white as snow, and His eye's were like a flame of fire, V 15 and His feet were like fine brass, as they were burned into a furnace.
{Matthew 2:13} A angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, and said get up, take the Child and His Mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the Child and kill Him.
Back then the Egyptians were dark, some darker, most were even black like brass burning in a furnace.
You need to ask yourself, what colour was Jesus, was He dark enough to blend into Egypt, so that not even Herod could find him.
Hebrews in those days are not the same coloured Hebrews we find today, many of them were dark coloured.
{Exodus 2:5} Pharaohs daughter found Moses in the Nile, a Jew, that not even Pharaoh Himself could recognize the differences between a Jew and an Egyptian, this must mean Jews could blend in with the Egyptians without a problem.
The Angel of the Lord sent Joseph to Egypt.
Jesus blended into the crowds, He wasn't any different to anybody else, matter of fact he wasn't a good looking man like what the paintings over the centuries had showing us 'He is.

If Jesus stood out as much as what people said He did, then why would the Jewish people want to stone Him when Jesus said I am.

This is in reference to Christ earthly ministry when Christ was anointed with the holy spirit(oil of gladness) without measure everyman that has ever receive the holy spirit was with measure but Christ own was without measure.Just as every man has a God so also Christ as a man has a God. First we will read {Hebrews 1:8} "But God said unto the Son-your throne O'God is forever and ever, A sceptre of righteousness and a sceptre of the kingdom.
Are you reading it, the Father said to Jesus your throne O'God is forever and ever. Why would God call himself God. if He isn't God?
V 9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.
