delkuf:What!? Jesus tells one to behave in a certain way but one should not behave in the way Jesus told one to behave, delkuf? Are you trying to send me straight to hell for disobeying God? I wonder how many other Jesus' behaves you would ask one to ignore. How about love my enemy, should I ignore that too, along with be a peacemaker and be blessed? I bet you would not accept it if I said "Jesus tells one to believe certain things but one should not believe what Jesus told one to believe". Lol. delkuf:Indeed, Jesus Christ was saying "Stop using the Bible to justify your ignorance of the Word!" And in that Parable he was specifically saying, "Let your fruits (doings) so shine", and not, "merely be like the believing but non-doing Levite and Preist!" In fact, James said it much more forcefully than Jesus: You foolish person. Do you want evidence that faith (belief) without deeds is useless? |
OpenYourEyes1:First, Evangelism is not banned in the Islam section. Some Christians, and atheists, even swear the "lā ʾilāha ʾillā-llāh, muhammadun rasūlu-llāh", and go on to insult Allah there! I do not think I preach anywhere. Though, saying that, see me in this thread. I make a distinction between preaching, which to me means telling people what they should believe; and teaching, which is showing people how to use their brains. Its a hangup from having been a teacher. I would never have taught students to believe Phytagoras Theorem or Newton's Laws of Motion! Many think Christianity is about beliefs, while belief, to me, is what demons do and tremble, and I do not exactly see the merit in trembling or emulating demons. In fact, I've seen the Fruits of the Spirit in Muslims, which is not possible if they do not have 'Christ' in their lifes, and I've seen many Christians with Fruits of the Flesh, which means that despite their "Lord Lord", 'Christ' most certainly must be missing. It is my opinion that a follower of Christ must preach 'Christ' by "Letting one's light so shine that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven". Basically, teach with your fruits. Not doing so is pure hypocrisy, in my opinion, and a misunderstanding of the Word. There's an ongoing conversation about what I mean here. I do admit that to some, it sounds like I am advocating devil worship instead of Christ. P.s. To understand what I might mean by 'Christ', see here. |
delkuf:In what way is it different? Jesus clearly did say 'go and behave like the unbelieving Samaritan and not like the believing Priest and Levite', who both sinned because they believed! |
OpenYourEyes1:It would depend what you mean by "promote", I think. A Christian could go on to the Muslim section and promote how Christ has taught to love one's neighbours for instance. I once went to the Muslim section as an atheist and promoted, though, not atheism, per se.

OpenYourEyes1:I don't understand. Atheist posts do come under religion if they are about religion, no? |
kingxsamz:That's untrue. Atheists take as much delight in attacking religious people and their gods as religious people take in attacking atheists on here. One is as unholy as the other! |
IamMichael:I wonder how Seun could be a "religious apologist" and "an atheist" at the same time. But I guess you might mean he apologises for atheists, though I can't say I see that myself. IamMichael:Just goes to show how balanced and mature Seun really is, in my opinion, for which I, buda highly commend Seun. Any other atheist would push freethinker and atheist threads to the front page permanently! Could Seun please add a contribution button please. I am getting tired of benefitting from your hard work for free!

Gaggii:It could simply mean, God stopped working because the task had been completed. |
delkuf:Yes, it is possible to understand something and not believe it. If you told me the earth is round and I believed you without checking any evidence to see if it is true, then I am stupid, and your sheepie, and if you told me to put my hand in the fire, I just might believe you and put my hand in the fire. If Jesus did not understand his Bible, he would have made bread out of stones to relieve his own hunger, and jumped from a pinnacle and rely on angels to break his fall, and worship Satan in return for all the kingdoms of the world. After all, Satan was quoting from the Bible that you claim must be believed, so why didn't Christ believe when it was quoted to him? |
delkuf:No need to apologise. I was an atheist. I am afraid that you are just regurgitating what you have been told to believe. And as I said, it is how we are taught in Nigeria, to believe, even if we never go on to understand. A study of the Gospels however shows that Jesus was about understanding rather than for one to just believe. A very good example of this is the Parable of the Good Samaritan. The Priest and the Levite were believers, but Christ said "Go and do like the unbelieving pagan worshipping Samaritan". |
delkuf:No delkuf, you are wrong. I have to understand what I believe or I might ignorantly be believing what I do not understand. |
delkuf:Who told you buda is an atheist? And why would you think buda believes when buda has clearly stated that believing is the emulation of demons? People who believe things tend to not have bothered to check any evidence and usually believe crap that they make up inside their heads. Or don't you think so? |

delkuf:You are wrong, delkuf. It would in fact have made more sense if you had said, "one cannot believe the Bible unless one understands it". But if you did understand the Bible, you would not merely believe it because you would know what was meant in it and be more able to live it. Here's a thread that might help you understand what I mean.

malvisguy212:It is godly to seek answers. Give op the benefit of the doubt that he wants to learn. |
delkuf:If I can't believe God created heaven and earth in six days and rested on the seventh, I should steal and murder and not love my neighbour? And what if I understand the Bible instead of just believing and trembling like a demon? |
Joemetry:You tempt me to say, "Soyinka should perhaps stick to what he got a Nobel Prize in". Thankfully, I do not believe he should. |
LordReed:Yeah, I'm good. Thanks. |
malvisguy212:Forgive me for answering, but yes, good can come out of their hearts. However, one must watch ones own heart and forgive them because they are only doing as they have been taught to believe they should. |
gbami:Its not about "understand the meaning of any single passage"! As Christ said, "do not live by bread alone or you will be malnourished"! You must read the entire book in order to understand that as the wrathful God evolved into the loving Jesus Christ, so too do the ideas in the Bible evolve over time. A clear example of the evolution of Biblical ideas is the following: "You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth." Jesus evolved it to: "But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you". If you evolve the passages in the same way Jesus taught us to do, I'm certain you'd know how to treat your wife and your slaves. Please accept this free book to assist your evolution. budaatum: |

After all, "believe" was the word used for learning in its time, and it is repeated many times in the Bible that believing will get one into heaven, and the Nigerian education system hardly teaches understanding, which is why one can regurgitate what one crammed to pass an exam. Tell them to use their learning however, and you'd find empty trembling heads that are unemployable. Funny thing is many would rather believe a book than the evidence before their own eyes! Or when did a belief put food on your table? And that, despite reading that Jesus was a healer of the senses, and that "thou shalt not bow down and worship idols", which is what the Bible becomes when it is elevated to godhood. We are young I guess, and think like children. But a time will surely come when childhood beliefs will be put away and we shall see face to face and understand instead and grow in wisdom. |
LordReed:Greetings my Lord. Long time! How and where you been? |
You are not supposed to believe everything you read in the Bible. I'd even say you are not meant to believe anything in the Bible unless your intention is to tremble like a demon. Try understanding the Bible instead, in its context and its time. I assure you you'd evolve. Disbelieve and Know! |
Abbeybailey:I just can't understand how he thinks he's sane. Hasn't he got friends to tell him? Perhaps he actually lives amomgst them in a mental home. |
Abbeybailey:I don't either, mostly. Engaging him is like engaging poo. |
