ForValour:That's my question framed as I want it framed. |
ForValour:What is it then if the current 40k wage is not being paid? |
Reflect7:No, I will not get lost. We don't need a home grown religion nor any religion at all. What we need is a good education system that teaches the use of the brain and the senses. Religion, be it home grown or imported, is simply to control you, while a good education sets you free and teaches you manners and how to communicate intelligently. |

Reflect7:Your inability to converse without the rudeness and insults says what level you are at, and I doubt you'd get anyone to adopt your ideology even if you paid them to. So good luck. And rather than a religion, consider learning manners. |
|
FRANCISTOWN:Doubt it's a prerequisite but more like a convention. We don't exactly endow animals with the ability to believe, though it has been argued they might.
|
FRANCISTOWN:If atheism is defined as a lack of belief in deities, then babies and orangutans qualify, I'd say. Technically, at least, since they lack belief in deities. But atheism as a lack of belief, is a definition from the theist point of view, as atheists ought to know instead. |
basilico:Britain is not paradise. Quote me when you learn to not lie. |
Since I am being blamed for the being "born an atheist" statement, (I never knew Richard Dawkins had said the same thing), perhaps I should be more accurate. My parents had no time for gods when I was born, apart from the intellectual study of Egyptian gods being done by my father who was fascinated by the fact that he had learnt about Yahweh and Allah back home and wondered why he had never been introduced to other Western gods. I learnt about Yahweh and Allah and the fact that people believed in them and in their existence when I arrived in Nigeria at the age of 7. And to me it sounded no different to believing in Tom and Jerry's existence, which some did actually tell me they believed. I had learnt about Greek and Roman and English gods by then, and they were not taught as things to believe in or that had ever existed. So, basically, I was born into an atheist family, and church on Sunday became an excuse to get out the house, though I do confess I often did not end up in the said church. Currently, everyone in my family believes in god. |
Reflect7:So, you needed to go to their schools in order to eat? Unfortunately, this is not true. And I bet you did not go to school because you were blackmailed, but because your parents wanted you to learn to use your head and be successful in life. My paternal grandfather was the first in my family to go to school, and he did not go because he was blackmailed, but because he saw the advantage in having an education. He did not even become a Christian, and continued with his babalawoism till he died. But if you are so averse to western education, perhaps start by responding in your native tongue instead of the tongue of those whom you claim economically blackmailed you. |
Kobojunkie:This is not true! The man God is written to have created in God's image was not named Adam, and was not created from mud, and was not told not to eat any fruit, and was not a slave in a garden, but was created to "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth", and "every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat". The only reason anyone would like you to believe your claim above that Adam was the same creation as God's Image, is to hide the fact that some are slaves while some are masters. KnownUnknown:Here defines one as either a theist or an atheist. I call myself budaatum. |
triplechoice:It depends on the individual. Though I doubt atheism alone influences anyone's behaviour since they usually don't eat bread alone. My atheism extends to beliefs in general and could be called antibelief. It does also include love for my neighbours, which is not a belief but a behaviour. |
triplechoice:I can accept this. See my response above. |
KnownUnknown:I had no god before or after I learnt about gods. Its a language fault. And the fact that we are talking about theism and using it to define one another. |
KnownUnknown:Was born an atheist, and was not indoctrinated into believing in gods at an early age, and was taught about them instead, starting with ancient English, Greek and Roman gods in school, and Egyptian gods at home (dad was learning about them). Only got to understand people believe in gods when I met Nigerians in their environment, and it was absurd to me considering they also believed oyinbo rats spoke. |
FRANCISTOWN:What are the implications of my phrase that you think I have not thought of? |
Reflect7:So, Nigerians were clamouring for formal education which was being delivered by Christian organisations, and that to you means they were forced? Why were those Nigerians clamouring for formal education? Did they not have formal schools of their own that they could go too? In fact, post a definition of "clamour" please, so I can be certain you know what the word means. |
Reflect7:You must want to believe this, but it is not true. It was very easy for us to see the benefits of religions that did not require blood sacrifices. And it is obvious that you are better off with religions of the books than religions based on archaic ignorance. For your information, the British themselves were given Christianity by Rome the same way the British then gave it to us. Difference is the British went on to use their own minds to interpret and understand the book unlike us who still believe what we are told. But that's a time thing. The day will surely come when our eyes will open so we appreciate Eve. |
FRANCISTOWN:All this is rather too long for me though good. I do not believe nor disbelieve in the existence of gods because I know gods do not exist. I was born an atheist, and after encountering those who believe in gods and then researching gods myself, I discovered all gods were created by human beings. This made me appreciate the human intellect even more in fact, because, creating gods is an amazing feat indeed.

Reflect7:So, you would take away the Bible and Koran, and lock up all the pastors and imams and priests in a room and force them to accept God Unkulunkulu from Zululand? Would you also lock up all the Nigerian Muslims and Christians and traditionalist and atheists in a room too and force us all to accept God Unkulunkulu from Zululand? The reason we abandoned our African spirituality is the same reason the Romans abandoned Jupiter, and the Greeks abandoned Zeus, and the English abandoned Tiw, Woden, Thor and Frig. Basically, a better God came along with a book. And rather than go backwards to those mythical gods, the world is now locking its citizens in classrooms to educate them so they worship the God of Knowledge, just as Nigeria is wisely doing already, though unconsciously and very slowly. Education, as in, feeding people with the fruits of knowledge, opens the eyes and empowers people to use their own senses instead of being brainwashed to believe in myths. And what Nigeria needs to understand is that the fruits of knowledge are not poisonous and will not kill anyone.

OLAADEGBU:Going? Guess the lipstick has finally faded.

FxMasterz:Yes it is possible. Long before humans evolved and invented language as we know it, humans must have grunted like animals do. FxMasterz:I doubt there ever was a time when all living things spoke the same grunt or meant the same thing by the same grunt as other animals. Regardless, evidence does not suggest that there ever was a time when the "whole world spoke the same language", and a simple study of the evolution of language would suffice to correct you of this belief. |
The terms of the passport application highlight that if you do not get your passport issued within one year from application date, your application will be canceled and you have to start all over.Sound rather scammish to me. All they need to do to scam your money is not issue your passport in a year! If I were to exaggerate, it would be like the mechanic claiming your car would be impounded if they don't fix it in a week. Get us the ministers email address, so we can all send him a link to this please with heading "Is The Nigerian Embassy In Washington DC Scamming Nigerians? Add emails of others of others who might question this for us too. Something might be done about it if we inundate them and make it an issue. |
The tertiary health institution is currently in total darkness after it was disconnected from the national grid by Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) on Tuesday, 19th March, 2024.Makes me think of all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies and government parastatals that have been using electricity without paying, and the fact that power sellers would make up as much as they lose by charging it to other power users like you and still not have enough to invest in providing the energy we need.
