K0ala7: I have also been using the airport as long as i can remember. The airport was not perfect before, but given the span of time that ha passed since it's construction and the 8 years of OBJ, 2 years of Yaradua, and Jonathan's administration....we hae not done well. The last time when i was leaving i had a good dinner in a decent restaurant and i was happy about that. It was air conditioned and they had a TV and comfortable chairs. But int he departure hall, it was the complete opposite, the heat was unbearable, there were air conditions that were not working. The fans that were available were only circulating the already hot air around.

Port Harcourt airport has also been an eyesore for the past few years. When i left there last in june, the terminal was under reconstruction and i haven't heard of or seen any indications that the airport has been completed or that people no longer have to get wet under the tarpaulin tents that serves as a makeshift terminal. Any update on PH International is highly welcome.

So what I am saying is, though there have been improvements in the Airport here and there. They are not great enough yet to warrant singing unnecessary praises of the administrators of the Airport. We won't have change if we do not continuously call out what we think is wrong with the system.

The OP does a disservice to the intelligence of the readers who use the airport. I have been traveling through the aforesaid airport for the past thirty years. There is definitely an improvement. The present administration has not taken away the 'good' amenities. Reason being that there has never been any amenities. Time was when we used to arrive in utter darkness after a six hour flight. Last time I ate at this airport, I nearly died from Montezumas revenge. There has been instances when the tarmac light doesn't work either, we will end up leaving Lagos to Europe around three AM instead of ten-thirty PM the previous day. Lagos airport smells because of the environment, the staff at the airport, (security agencies), airline staff and the trolly dollies. These people often sleep at the airport and maintain poor hygiene. Normally when airports are renovated, they are closed until the renovation finishes. This is the case with Heathrow Terminal Two in the UK. The FED could have commandeered MMA2 for the duration of the renovation to MMIA. I understand the operators refused to negotiate with FAAN. We should be grateful that 'some' work is actually being done. Nigeria human content needs to improve it's hygiene, etc. It is not the job of Stella or Goodluck to bathe the Nigerian personnel at the airports. Equally they must not be blamed for the bribery at the airports. I have been paying this for the past thirty odd years with pleasure. The trick is to take some of the on-board liquor and 'dash' it to the immigration and customs, and wish them well. It works all the time.

The article said that President Jonathan approved the termination of the appointment. The SGF terminated her appointment because of low productivity by the special assistant two months ago. Yet it is only now that the office of the president confirmed the termination. People should be asking the question, whether this SA has positively impacted Nigeria. Jimoh is one of the new breed business men in Nigeria. In the developed world, he is what is called asset stripper or corporate raider. He has more lawyers working for him than Ondo state. He is also a lawyer. He made over 60 Billion naira from Aviation fund subsidy alone. He is obviously rich. However none of the business operators pay their fair share of tax in Nigeria The FIRS adopts a knee jerk reaction whenever they are under pressure. It just happens to be the turn of Jimoh. Last time, Otedola was seized along the same lines. The reason why Nigeria is impoverished is that FIRS is not collecting enough tax to sustain the economy. Within the European Union, as well as US and Canada, the Inland/Internal Revenue (The tax man) contributes well over 60% of the GDP. The same is not true in the sub-saharan Africa. The present day Nigerians are tax-shy, not just the rich. NL included.

There is a feeling that INEC is doing as well it can under Alhaji Jega. However, he will be in London to answer some pertinent questions about 2011 and the recent Anambra experience. I have registered to attend on the evening. My likely questions for him will be along the lines of why Nigerian politicians come across as bad losers. Another question is whether President Goodluck E Jonathan allows him freehand to conduct his elections. In the light of the recent elections in Anambra this weekend, whether INEC will ever get it right when the REC's (Resident Electoral Commissioners) are prone to bribery and corruption. The last question will be whether he will be recruiting Nigerians in Diasporas to man the commissions in the states to avoid the global embarrassment that is Nigerian elections.

I am therefore inviting you to tell me alternative questions to ask him on the day. This can be in the form a leading question and a follow up question.

@Omojuwa has not been a clever boy. Hand wringing and pious bleating does him a disservice. Has MMIA ever been a contender for the best or top 100 airports in the world. Things has improved remarkably over the past few years. Besides the touts, the number of people accompanying a traveller to the airport has been declining appreciably in the past few years. Nigeria has never claimed to be anything but. I expected @Omojuwa to suggest that MMIA should be run by the private sector, such as Bi-Courtney (who is doing great with MMA2). I also expected him to call for the MMIA Airport Police to be empowered ( through the recruitment of able personnel to patrol the airport and demand ID of all persons found on the MMIA premises) The idea of blaming officials, especially government has become ingrained in the head of otherwise progressives Nigerians. We do not need NASS to debate MMIA. It just requires 'will' as you quite rightly surmised (by suggesting that money will not necessarily resolve the problem as indentified.

I was at the Eagle Square, Abuja in January 2011 during the CPC party convention. I traveled the country supporting Buhari and his views. What I still get is what the manifesto of CPC amounts to. I hated PDP politics of patronage. There is no manifesto, except to win elections. However when someone is the President, there is a moral imperative to support them for the collective good. APC is a party of the disaffected and twisted politicians who believe that anything 'but Jonathan'. Nigeria deserves better. What have you done for this country except to expose bad and ill-begotten education. Remain silent wherever issues are discussed. Your freedom is not sacrosanct with respect to another citizen.

A US congressman call Obama a liar to his face in front of both chambers during his state of the union address and in front of millions of Americans and nothing happened to him.
