They have come again. The fear mongers at work with new and fearful nonsense to rattle naive and gullible folks.

If you truly believe all you typed, shouldn't you have stopped your association with Naira land? After all its owned by a self confessed atheist (or worshiper of the flying spaggeti)? According to your revelation, NL should be main vehicle of evil with the number of atheists, pagans etc participating so what are u still doing opening threads here?

True Christians know end times are here. Social networks and other new innovations trending in the world now have their good and bad sides. A focussed believer should know how to balance their use so we don't get derailed on our Christian journey.

Focus on Christ and his finished works on the cross instead.

I think I too will like to see a discourse on what 'the gospel' really is. We are at that time of the year again when every known and unknown mog is holding one extra ordinary gathering or the other and we all will be caught up in the frenzy.

What exactly is the gospel that saved you and i which we are meant to proclaim?

I must say I've been enjoying the discussions going on here and hope the spirit continues

Then read Matt 5:17-20 n u're nt jew yet u read n pray Psalm everyday( is David nt Jew), who are u fooling
Its obvious you and I are singing from different hymn books with vastly different understanding of Christ and the life he died for us to live.

You believe you should pay tithe otherwise God will not bless you and you will spend the money on girls, movies, dstv, arsenal matches etc. You believe giving to the poor is the last resort if you have no pastor to give tithes to (all these can be deduced from your write ups here).

I believe I'm a Christian saved by grace and are not bound by any tithe laws. I believe God has already blessed me the day I became a believer and because he loved me so much to save me, I too will show love to my brethren particularly in supporting the needy among them, whether pastor or layman.

So go ahead with your tithing to your pastors while I continue with my own freewill giving as I see needs arise around me. Each to his own.

Cheers.

You're so much in love with the word 'confused' but I doubt you know what it means. You said if my pastor works I should give to another who needs or to orphans and other struggling Christian.

Is it that you were too confused to see this statement I made earlier?

@the bolded. Thank God for your understanding. Ensure you give to those who truly need it instead of somebody who already has an abundance of resources simply because he's called pastor. Christ treasures giving the least of his brethren than any other thing.
How many times do you give your tithe to a struggling Christian? Or is your pastor that you give it to numbered among the poor in your church?

Deut 14:22-23 that I quoted said you should eat your tithe in the place he chose. How many times do you eat your tithe in your church? I hope you won't display your confusion by equating it to spiritual food.

N.T n Apostle Paul support tithe(Heb 7:5, Luke 18:12, Rom 11:35)..
Heb 7:5 talks of Levites collecting tithes from israelites. Do you know who the Levites were? They were the singers, cleaners, record keepers etc in the temple and they are distinct from priests and have surely not been replaced by your pastors of today.

Luke 18:12
'I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.'

The above was spoken by an evil self righteous Pharisee, is he your role model? If he is your mentor, he sure isn't mine.

Rom 11:35
'Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?'

What has this verse above got to do with tithes? Do you want to magically conjure tithes into that verse? Or you didn't read your bible at all before quoting?

Be sure before giving references next time.

state govt a criminal org? Yet u pay tax for fear of nt going to prison buh nt tithe..thereby fulfiling ceaser's will buh nt God's.. u fear man pass God?
I'm a good citizen so I pay tax. I dont pay tax out of fear. Its an irresponsible citizen that does that. I am a member of the body of Christ so I give to the less endowed members of that body. Whether pastor or gateman. I support the gospel in whatever way possible. I don't belong to Judaism so I don't owe tithe, neither do I pay it.

I am a child of God. I don't live in fear of my God. He's my father and I have no reason to fear. Its only a slave that fears a householder. If you live in fear of God and devourer, its obvious you're an impostor and are not a child of the kingdom. See the verses below and upgrade

Rom 8:15
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

2Tim 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Only the Word of God is sure and very truth. Don't allow yourself to be swept by stories of newly delivered sinners and men/women/children that 'went to Heaven or hell'. Jesus Christ delivered so many people from demonic and occult powers. He also raised some people from the dead. We don't see disciples spreading and sharing books on Lazarus' 96hour experience and interviews with God and Satan. No apostle's found quoting the gospel of Legion on the dynamics of hell, and how he's 900 years old in the underworld and on haygrade 969 in devil's palace. Let's share the gospel truth. That's what has resurrection power to make people free.

OK. I can understand Abraham's connection to tithing. What has David and Solomon got to do with tithing? Is this verse below in your bible?

Deut 14:22-23
'Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year. [23] And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always'

Can you pls tell me what I'm meant to do with this part of the bible or is it not part of the commandments of God again?

Even that Gal 5:16 verse u qoute is even against ur stand, it is u that fulfilled 'lust of flesh' nt spirit by saying 'my pastor is wealthy, i wouldn't pay tithe to him'
See your own very words to me in response to a question
Msgamble: what if my pastor works? then he is not qualify for tithe
Did you forget you typed that on this thread? Also is the verse below in your bible?

Prov 22:16
'He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

If you give to your wealthy pastor, the bible said you'll come to want. In other words, you'll become POOR. Do you want to become poor?

buh state govt is also endowed yet u pay tax? Didn't u, (my pastor is rich? Were u there wen God called him or knows God convenant with him?)..flesh controlled ur action by 'gving ceaser ceaser's buh nt God what blong to Him' going against Christ words
So your church and your pastor have the same focus like the criminal govt we have today? No wonder.

So your pastor can keep amassing wealth even when you and other members can't afford the basics of life? So if God has a covenant of wealth with him, it'll be to take from you and other struggling church members to add to the pastor's abundance abi?

I hope that's not the practice in your church otherwise, you're in serious bondage my friend.

OLAADEGBU: This is the right approach by believing and praying for his healing and health but the anti tithers would rather throw a pity party as if he needs one.
I hope you've started the praying and believing already?

So after this your pretentious show of 'love' for Mark in this reply to image's nice attempt to do right by Mark(even though he did nothing wrong by asking), you're still struggling to do the honourable thing by addressing Mark directly and saying sorry for doubting him even if it was a mistake?

You care about his health so much that you forgot he has feelings and you hurt those feelings with your post? Not only are you rude and arrogant but you lack empathy and basic human compassion. Since Mark is against tithe, he can go hang for all you care. What happened to love your enemies even though the brother isn't an enemy but just disagrees with you on a topic?

Keep up with your tithe collecting job. You might make enough to buy you a heart eventually because you do need one. A heart of flesh that is.
Christianity EtcRe: 5 Ways The Prosperity Gospel Is Hurting Africa by Candour(m): 5:34am On Nov 15, 2013
@OP, I took the liberty to paste the remainder of the article to help NLers access it more easily and quickly.

Nice article by the way.

Thanks

I’m talking about the prosperity gospel. Of course, I know a slick version of this message is preached in the United States—and I know we are the ones who exported it overseas. I am not minimizing the damage that prosperity preaching has done in my own country. But I have witnessed how some African Christians are taking this money-focused message to new and even more dangerous extremes.

Here are five reasons the prosperity message is damaging the continent of Africa today:

1. It is mixed with occultism. Before Christianity came to Nigeria, people visited witch doctors and sacrificed goats or cows to get prosperity. They poured libations on the ground so the gods would hear their prayers. Today similar practices continue, only the juju priest has been replaced by a pastor who drives a Mercedes-Benz. I am aware of a pastor who buried a live animal under the floor of his church to win God’s favor. Another pastor asked his congregants to bring bottles of sand to church so he could anoint them; he then told the people to sprinkle the sand in their houses to bring blessings. The people who follow these charlatans are reminded that their promised windfall won’t materialize unless they give large donations.

2. It fuels greed. Any person who knows Christ will learn the joy of giving to others. But the prosperity gospel teaches people to focus on getting, not giving. At its core it is a selfish and materialistic faith with a thin Christian veneer. Church members are continually urged to sow financial seeds to reap bigger and bigger rewards. In Africa, entire conferences are dedicated to collecting offerings in order to achieve wealth. Preachers boast about how much they paid for suits, shoes, necklaces and watches. They tell their followers that spirituality is measured by whether they have a big house or a first-class ticket. When greed is preached from the pulpit, it spreads like a cancer in God’s house.

3. It feeds pride. This greedy atmosphere in prosperity churches has produced a warped style of leadership. My Kenyan friend Gideon Thuranira, editor of Christian Professional magazine, calls these men “churchpreneurs.” They plant churches not because they have a burden to reach lost souls but because they see dollar signs when they fill an auditorium with chairs. A selfish message produces bigheaded opportunists who need position, applause and plenty of perks to keep them happy. The most successful prosperity preacher is the most dangerous because he can convince a crowd that Jesus died to give you and me a Lexus.

4. It works against the formation of Christian character. The prosperity message is a poor imitation of the gospel because it leaves no room for brokenness, suffering, humility or delay. It offers an illegal shortcut. Prosperity preachers promise instant results and overnight success; if you don’t get your breakthrough, it’s because you didn’t give enough money in the offering. Jesus calls us to deny ourselves and follow Him; prosperity preaching calls us to deny Jesus and follow our materialistic lusts. There is a leadership crisis in the African church because many pastors are so set on getting rich, they can’t go through the process of discipleship that requires self-denial.

5. It actually keeps people in poverty. The government of Malawi is currently under international scrutiny because of fraud carried out by top leaders. The saddest thing about the so-called “Cashgate” scandal is that professing Christians in the administration of President Joyce Banda have been implicated. One of these people stole millions of kwacha from the government and hid the cash in a teddy bear! Most people today in Malawi live on less than $1 a day, yet their leaders have been known to buy fleets of cars and huge plots of land with money that was not theirs. Sadly, the prosperity gospel preached in Malawi has encouraged pastors and leaders to follow the same corrupt pattern. As a result, God’s people have been financially exploited.

When Jesus described false prophets as wolves in sheep’s clothing, He warned us to examine their fruit. Matthew 7:17 says, “So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit” (NASB). What is the fruit of prosperity preaching?

Churches have been growing rapidly in many parts of Africa today, yet sub-Saharan Africa is the only region in the world where poverty has increased in the past 25 years. So according to the statistics, the prosperity gospel is not bringing prosperity! It is a flawed message, but I believe God will use selfless, broken African leaders to correct it.

At the bolded. Pls stop living in the bondage of fear because fear is not a Christian virtue. If you're truly a Christian, not only were you redeemed from sin, you were also redeemed from every curse of the law including curse associated with the law of tithing. See the scripture below

Gal 3:13
'Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree'

If Christ took your curse, then no devil can put it back. No spoiler or devourer can come near me because i operate on a plane far above them. I pray you step up above them too.

Mark Miwerds: Thank you DrummaBoy! God is gracious.

Though my physical blindness is a hindrance, it is also a blessing. I do not have to be tempted through visual deceptions that are in everybody's lives from day to day. God has spared me that, maybe because He is true to His Word and knows that visual temptations would be too much for me.

1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

I read and write braille, (learned at the tender age of 9) walk with my Mahler cane, (had to start using it at the age of 28 ) and have DragonNaturallySpeaking to allow me to type on the PC by speaking to it through my headset microphone. I hear your posts (and others) spoken to me through a synthesized voice using MS Windows built in text-to-speech software program.

Pictures, I have to have described to me.

I do not miss my sight at all. Seems this world is getting more and more evil as the days go by. Pastors have allowed the enemy to creep in their Churhes (something that Paul warned the Church to be aware of) and through subtitle misdirection, have led many away from the truth concerning what God said that the tithes consisted of and to whom the tithes were to be given. Pastors, being weak in proper Biblical study, also have become led away by these lies and that is why the Church has become, as Jesus would put it, "a den of thieves" today.

We are told in the second epistle to Timothy to "Preach the Word", yet so many have strayed from the Word and instead chase after the invention of man and have become defiled.

Psalms 106:39 Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.

Paul, in his epistle to the Church at Corinth wrote that "if any man defile the Temple, him will God destroy." I pity those pastors who defile the Church through their sermons on tithing that don't even line up with God's Word. Unless they repent, they will perish.
May God bless you Mark Miwerds.

After reading this your story, i just realized again that i have no right to complain about anything in my life....Absolutely None. Infact i'm overwhelmed. I will be sharing your story with my friends and family to serve as a source of inspiration in their life's journey. There's truly ability in every disability through the grace of God.

Hope your text to speech software is able to properly decode some of our typos? As we are prone to mixing our write ups with pidgin English sometimes. grin

I never knew Russel Kelly too is blind until now. Just checked his profile on Wikipedia to confirm. You guys are truly an inspiration.

God bless you my brother. You have planted something in me today and that is the desire to tell everybody i come across not to give up irrespective of their circumstances because if Mark Miwerds can do it, so can they.

God bless you again my brother.

You will stop at nothing until you confuse folks and make them doubt and feel dissatisfied. The devil used this same tactics on Eve since long time ago.
Your tactics is even worse than that of the devil on Eve. At least the serpent allowed Eve to eat the fruit with her husband alone. This your style is to take everything from the needy and leave them destitute.

You're the one manipulating scripture. Coming to the torah to allocate tithes to ministers but denying the part that says folks can eat of their tithes.

If you're not manipulating scripture, who was the 'main tithe' you mentioned meant to be given to? Levites? Priests? Melchizedek? Jesus? Pastors?

Be honest and tell us who is to receive it
Christianity EtcRe: The Deception Of Malachi 3:10-11 "Devourer" And "Storehouse" EXPOSED by Candour(m): 9:52pm On Nov 13, 2013
Image123: You seem not to appreciate the use of the word "simply". Tithe is one part of something. The other nine parts are the rest of the whole.
We are studying scripture here my bro not arithmetic.

Tithe is not just any tenth. It shouldn't be that difficult to grasp.

It's simply a tenth of the whole, whatever the whole is. God was talking to the whole nation, He knows best.
Mal 3:9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation
Mal 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

He later told them that all nations will call them blessed. He was not having a clan or tribal meeting, He was addressing the whole nation.
A tenth of specific items. He sure knows best hence he told us what his tithe his. Stop trying to know more than God

You are yet to point out any lie. You said pastor Chris was capable of lying, i simply reminded you that you are also capable.
He lied when he said Christians are obligated to tithe. That command was for Israel under the law. Nothing to do with Christians redeemed by the blood of Christ. You also know this hence your holding tenaciously to Abram's tithe of war spoils to Melchizedek.

Kindly show me where pastor Chris said tithe was of the law. You can simply post the sentence or the paragraph where he said so. i'm so glad i didn't miss Jesus the truth. Your thought was/is that i always miss the truth. Your thoughts are far away from God's though.
I'll do better than post a sentence. I'll post the entire devotional again for your benefit when i finish replying your posts.

Mat 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Mat 7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Mat 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
Have you ever accused me of anything on this thread or this forum? Then these verses apply to you in equal measure don't you think?

You said you do not take directions from men of God. Stop dribbling.
Is it too difficult for you to know i don't and wont take directions from crooks parading as men of God?

God's holy tithe indeed. Which one is God's unholy tithe? Is Genesis no more part of the book of Moses? Is it not part of the book of the law? Have you not read that every devoted thing is most holy unto the LORD, not just crops and animals? Talk about searching the scriptures. Are Abraham and Jacob's tithe not in the Bible? Did the pharisee not give tithe of all that he possessed?
You dont have to ridicule God's holy tithe even if you don't regard it. Is Deut 14:22-29 not in your bible? is Num 18:21-32 not in your bible? Is Matt 25:35-40 no longer in your bible?

You are one of those trying to make sure that tithe should be a specific format, no?
Because God was very specific about what constitutes tithe and also who was qualified to eat or receive it

More dribbling. i think i'm becoming a real source of temptation making you do all sort of dishonest dribblings. i'll have to give you some slack on this issue. Let me not kill you finally.
I know you and the crooks parading as pastors don't like hearing this part but i'll keep saying it whenever necessary.

There is no twist, the passage clearly talks of giving in proportion. Some folks say that christians should not give in proportion or percentage, like that even makes any sense. Folks would rather be senseless in order to discredit tithing. 10% is a tithe, a tithe is a tenth. This is basic junior secondary school maths.
Every giving is a proportion of what you have. even the data you deployed to post on NL is a proportion of the quantity you bought. If you agree giving should be in proportions, from whence then did 10% called tithe become standard?

A lot of rubbish and old wive's fables that i had to delete BTW, as they have no relevance to anything. We give as unto God, not unto men. Giving in church is in proper context with whatsoever you do. There is no inclination or attempt at narrowing the verse.
Col 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Your anger wont change scripture. You deleted it but couldn't resist replying it. i hear

If you dont know what 'whatsoever ye do' means, then say so to enable brethren explain it to you.

Simply take correction and move on, no need for all this story.
ok

Next time, no need to lie that i said that i've been trying to win arguments for over four years.
You've been lying and twisting scriptures to justify an obvious fraud for the past four years. I guess that sounds better and clearer to you now?

Tithing is a form of giving. Christians are not equal to the Saviour but they are His brethren and priests under the priesthood of Jesus who is a priest after the order of Melchisedec. Are you a priest? What is the order of your priesthood?
Heb 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren
You specifically named pastors as priests after the order of Melchizedek to justify them receiving tithes. If you believe all Christians are in that order, why single out pastors? if not to cunningly appropriate people's resources? If all Christians are priests according to what you said above, when did pastors become junior high priests over other Christians? I thought you also said Jesus receives the tithes of Christians now, when did he appoint pastors to collect from other priests on his behalf?

A christian is free to tithe, pray, read the Bible, go to church, give alms, love etc.
Then allow Christians to be free indeed and stop mandating them to follow your prescribed percentage and method of administration which favours crooks in suit

I don't see you and other tithe promoters encourage folks to put Deut 14:22-29 into practice. All you're concerned about is the 10% that will end up in the pastor's pocket and it has no single resemblance to any tithe practice in the bible. It's a horrible caricature.

you are imagining a change only in your head. the Bible clearly states that the people wanted to keep the word as Moses gave it. You said no, they changed it.
Neh 10:29 They cleaved to their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God's law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the LORD our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;

Storage was not novel before Hezekiah. When agric produce are collected, it is common sense that there would be a place that it was stored. That a certain passage mentions it first does not COMPULSORILY mean that it is the first time. The people in Moses time sure had stores/storehouses. The storehouse/store or barn is what can also be called chamber. Its just a room for purpose of storage. No hard and fix rules about it.
Deu 28:5 Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.
Lev 25:22 And ye shall sow the eighth year, and eat yet of old fruit until the ninth year; until her fruits come in ye shall eat of the old store.

The above scriptures show that storing things was not alien in the time of Moses. When Solomon built the temple, he built it with chambers. Chambers were in the house of God at his time too. Chambers are simply rooms, it is not a new discovery by Hezekiah.
1Ki 6:5 And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about:

You do not have to read or comprehend so mechanically.
Stop trying to be too smart. I'm not talking about any storage facility. I'm talking about the store houses for tithes in the temple and i repeat that there was none before Hezekiah ordered them prepared. Yeah you're right the verse is stored in my head. I showed you from the bible were Hezekiah prepared storehouse in the temple for tithes, Now show us where Moses commanded chambers to be made for tithes.

No need throwing words into the air like you always say, just go ahead and show us from the bible

Agric produce was the main economy and increase in those days. The verse 37 for instance does not mention livestock. But they know that they were to tithe of all their increase even if Nehemiah does not say it. They had the Bible that said it. Even pagans knew what the tithe was, it was simply a tenth. The occupation, economy and riches of the common man in Bible days were measured mainly on agric produce not in naira and kobo or shekels. If you see rich men in Bible days, their riches were vastly from cattle, sheep, barns. It is not like today. We do not have to be so rigid like the pharisees were about the sabbath, and they thought Jesus was breaking the sabbath.
Most times when God talked about blessing or punishment, it was usually linked to agric produce as well, fruitfulness, rain, pests, diseases. It didn't mean that non-farmers(if there was actually anyone like that) were excluded from the blessing or the punishment.
You're the one who said they tithe from everything, Not the bible. Bible is very clear on tithable items and only farm produce and livestock qualify. Lev 27:30-33 defined God's tithe just as other parts of the torah described in detail the various types of items suitable for burnt offerings, peace offerings etc. God is always specific and he was about his HOLY TITHE.

You refuse to be specific about what is tithable but you insist on the tithe specifically going to the man called pastor because according to you, a minister always received it.

Why the double standard?

Christians are types of Christ, i thought that was the very meaning of the word "christian". Christians are priests in the priesthood after the order of Melchisedec. Jesus is our High priest. An high priest has priests.
Heb 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

There is nothing wrong with Jacob's tithe or format. The point is that he gave tithe of all God gave him.
Stop watering down the typology of Christ just to justify tithe. The name Christian came about because the pagans saw these people behaving like Christ, not because they were a type of Christ or a type of a saviour for the world.

Aaron was a high priest, did his children pay tithes to him? Did other priests pay tithe to Caiaphas the high priest? Was a Abram who paid tithes to Melchizedek a priest? Can you show me one place in the bible were a priest paid tithes to another priest?

If Jacob's tithe format is good enough, If i vow to tithe when God makes me president of Nigeria, will it be wrong?

So its God's tithe but you insinuate that you do not know who receives it? Are you just making arguments or discussing? In Bible study, there is what is called TOPICAL STUDY. That is, studying a particular topic , looking at all the places that that topic is found in scriptures. That is the normal way to do topical study. Its abnormal to say one scripture is the right and approved one, and that the others are not. Genesis talks of tithe, so do other books. One is not more right than the other, they are all together, completing and complementing the other.
You're making a mountain out of a mole hill. Lev 27:30-33 defines God's tithe but the receiver isn't stated there and that's all i said. I leave you to make whatever inference you will from that. All you need do is go to Num 18:21-32 to see who receives it and i gave you that reference.

There you go again trying to force us under the law's format. The law is just a type a shadow. All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for doctrine and for instruction. You are not God to force people to what they must do. Folks have a personal relationship with God and their tithes and offerings are accepted. It is not your place to disapprove.
But you reserve the right to force people to cough out 10% to your pastor? So you agree you're not paying God's tithe? God defined his tithe, If you wont abide by it, no problem but be honest enough to admit you've created your own format and then you're free to do as you please but don't come here and make it a doctrine.

Christ said if we give to the needy, we give to him so why make it compulsory that tithe must go to a man called pastor? Christ himself said needy people can receive on his behalf. If you wont follow God's specific instructions on tithe format, stop forcing others to follow the caricature practiced today.

i do not need to effect the rules, i simply reminded you of the rules. As a christian, you should be responsible and mature enough to obey them.
Thanks for the reminder but it is irrelevant here. You seem to be forgetting what Malachi discussed and i'm only helping my Christian brother not to mis-interprete the bible and i'll keep doing that so long as you keep forgetting.

Thanks

I'm happy you agree i'm saying the truth.

My brother, judging them is not the issue. Their consciences are obviously dead so our observations have no effect on them. However we owe it a duty to remind our fellow Christians what Christ's mind is for Christians. Go through the bible, God is more interested in people's welfare than in building of cathedrals. God was concerned with the poor in the old testament, Christ and the apostles were overwhelmingly involved in catering for the needs of the needy in the new testament than even their own personal interests. See sample verses below

Matt 25:35-36,40
'For i was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: i was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: i was a stranger, and ye took me in:36.Naked, and ye clothed me: i was sick and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.....40.And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily i say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.'

Luke 19:8
'And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods i give to the poor; and if i have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, i restore him fourfold.'

Acts 20:35
'I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.'

James 1:27
'Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world'

1John 3:17
'But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in Him?

When last did they hear any of these or similar verses in our churches?

My bro, the souls of men and the welfare of the less privileged are more important in the sight of God than any other thing you can think of but are our churches paying attention to these things? aren't we more concerned with building our various religious empires than to succour the downtrodden in the society?

If people really do give, won't it affect the society and the church positivelyhuh? Well I give my tithe to the church, and that's left for the church to give the needy poor and widows.
Thank God you also observe what's going on around you. People give my brother. Even those who can't afford to give and should be receiving give. The question to ask is what are the funds generated used for?

With all the evidence of riches in church today, why do we still have widows and orphans neglected?

Just yesterday, I saw Bill Gates and Dangote discussing with govt officials on ameliorating health situation in Nigeria and boosting our agriculture. An atheist and a Muslim trying their best to save Nigerian children from avoidable health issues yet we have MOG who say the world is not their home digging their heels deep into the toys that this world provides and not bothered. Do you know how much help the money spent on one jet can do to the economy of the poor in a particular church? Yet the church founder has 4.

How do you reconcile that?

Christianity EtcRe: (law) Levites Have Commandment To Receive Tithe, Pastors Tday Were Not Commanded by Candour(m): 5:23am On Nov 13, 2013
Tithing is of the law. Abram's tithe of war spoils to Melchizedek has nothing to do with the sham caricature of tithe in practice today.

Tithing is not a principle. Tithing is a command, a law, an obligation as this devotional by Pastor Chris shows.

The Giving That Stands You Out – Thursday April 7, 2011 – Pastor Chris

And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, Having land sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet (Acts 4:36-37).

It’s impossible for a Christian who only gives his tithes and offerings to feel like an accomplished giver, but the Bible lets us know these aren’t enough. Your tithes for example belong to God, and He expects you to give them to Him anyway. The man who does otherwise is a robber: “Will a man rob God: Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings” (Malachi 3:8 ).

God is not a man (Numbers 23:19); He’s God. So you MUST give Him your tithes and your offerings, as God. Actually, you pay your tithe; you don’t give it, as you would your free-will offering. So your tithe is not a gift, because you don’t pay a gift. Your offering on the other hand isnt just a donation made to the Church, but a sacrifice offered to a divine being. God actually demanded for it in Exodus 23:15: “…None shall appear before Me empty-handed” (AMP).

So, beyond your tithes and giving your offerings, which are compulsory for every believer, you have to go the extra mile by getting financially involved in the spread of the Gospel. This type of giving is special because it isn’t a compulsion, but is done out of your love and commitment to the Gospel. 2 Corinthians 9:7 (AMP) says, “Let each one [give] as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver [whose heart is in his giving]. This is the giving that stands you out.”

Remember it’s in your interest and in your favour when you give to the Lord, for He has promised great returns and mighty harvest of blessings for the giver. So be sure to be counted among those who give financially towards the things of God. In our Ministry, we have several platforms through which we reach millions of souls around the world every day with the Gospel. Locate such opportunities and participate big-time. That’s how to get relevant in the Kingdom and make your life count.

Prayer
Dear Father, thank you for the available opportunities I have to give towards the work of the Kingdom today, realizing that they’ve been put in place for me to make my relevance and impact in world evangelism felt through my giving. Thank you Lord, for continuously increasing my capacity to give, in Jesus’ Name. Amen,

Those whom this thread is concerned about are those who have been told the following LIES

2. If you don't tithe, you will have calamities, accidents, sickness, etc

3. If you don't tithe, you will burn in hell for ever.

4. If you don't tithe, it means you don't love God

If you don't fall into any of the 4 categories, then this thread and similar ones are not for you.

You didn't finish quoting from Deuteronomy. See the full version.

Deut 14:22-29
'Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year. [23] And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always. [24] And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the Lord thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the Lord thy God hath blessed thee: [25] Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose: [26] And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the Lord thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household, [27] And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee. [28] At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates: [29] And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

That is the full gist. How do we account for the portions in bold?

Do you eat your from your tithes? If you don't, you don't fear the Lord. The bible said so.

Also the fatherless, widows, strangers should also get your tithes says the book. Do you do this?

my bro, that scripture(Gal 3:24-25) specifically mentioned the law as school master. Are you saying the law can be used interchangeably with covenant? My understanding is that the law was only a part of the covenant. It wasn't the whole covenant. The people keep the laws and God releases the blessings. Tenth of what?

Yes, THE specific is the main tithe. You know that there were some other tithe meant to be given at home to neighbour levites, strangers and co. There was another one meant to be eaten by the individual and his neighbours IN Jerusalem/Shiloh. The main one is the one referred to, and it says ALL. Never forget the ALL.
Neh 10:38
And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the CHAMBERS, into the treasure house'

The tithe of tithes is what eventually gets to the chambers, treasure house or storehouse and it's 1% of the tithes of Israel. Is it the tithe of tithes(1%) you are asking folks to pay?

Oh, so you do have capabilities of telling lies. Fine, so no point of your reminding us that others have that capability.
wait until i do. then you can point it out so i can correct myself. You want me to stop pointing out Oyak's lies or yours? If you guys stop the lies, then i'll have nothing to accuse you of again.

Jesus Christ is the TRUTH, i'm glad i didn't miss Him. i'd gladly miss other irrelevant and inconsequential truths. Kindly show me where pastor Chris said tithe was of the law.
Christ is the truth and its not in dispute. Are you begging me to spam the thread again? If you wish to see it, you know where to go. I'll post it soon again anyway so you might want to wait for the new posting.

Would Jesus be happy with this stance?
i can assure you that Christ would be grossly disappointed with your penchant for closing your eyes to the truth in the word of God

You said you do not take directions from men of God. i only showed that it is not unchristian to take direction from men of God, and i quoted 1Corinthians 16.1. Stop twisting and turning like its soccer. This is the Word we are discussing here.
And i tell you 2Cor 16:1 is scripture, not just some empty words from crooks making merchandise of the children of God.

My bro, you're the one dribbling the word of God since this discussion started. i wish you could stop.

Sorry, Malachi makes no such difference. It simply states ALL THE TITHES.
Mal 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
It didn't say anything about some holy tithe.
Don't you think you should search the scriptures to find out which tithe he refereed to?

After you'll point accusing fingers of dribbling God's word. Go to Leviticus 27:30-33 and read about God's holy tithe since you don't know it.

There is nothing wrong in my shedding light on why i tithe or why a christian can tithe. i have consistently said that i do not force anyone to tithe or do anything, even prayer, going to fellowship, reading Bible etc. You are not everybody so you do not have the capacity to tell me what everybody has been telling you for the past 4 years. Stop throwing words into the air.
No wahala bros. since tithing is like prayers, going to fellowship, reading the bible etc. Then every Christian is at liberty to do as he chooses or you don't think so? after all there is no specific prayer format, fellowship format or bible reading format. So why should tithe alone have a specific format of pastor collecting it?

Oh, good that i clarified that you lied? You said "Just refrain from saying non tithers don't give. Its an untrue statement." i never made such a statement but you told me to stop making such a statement. i simply pointed out to you that i never i never made such a statement in the first place.
Again, you have proven what i earlier said so why the initial dribbling? i said it that YOU Candour cannot encourage people to give like the widow Jesus commended. You initially said that it was the type of giving that you encouraged and i said no. And you were arguing. Well, thank God, you have accepted. Really you don't encourage poor people to give all their savings like the poor widow. You encourage them to do it.
i do not think Jesus is a wicked person BTW. Jesus thought it was the offerings of God. He didn't think about religious thieves and rogues. In a similar way today, we give as unto God, not as unto men.
Luk 21:4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.
Yes my bro. Just wanted you to know that a refusal to give what you call tithe doesn't mean non tithers don't give. Once again, i'm glad you realize and know that.

Jesus knew the rulers of the temple in Jerusalem were rogues who devour widows houses. He commended the widow doesn't mean he encouraged other widows to do so. Jesus asked rich men to sell all they had and give to the poor. How come he never asked any of them to take it to the temple? i know why: because he knew the thieves there would devour everything. Even when Zaccheaus made his vow, he left the temple out because he knew they were crooks like he was before he met Jesus.

If Jesus couldn't trust the temple officials with the wealth of the rich, is it that of a poor widow he'll want them to administer? She thought she was giving to God because it was meant to be offerings for God but crooks in gowns and head gear were waiting to consume it because they had turned the temple to a business centre and a den of thieves. God was no longer there

Jesus didn't encourage it, I won't too.

Okay, no problem. Remember it that you said so anyway. i do not know about any charlatans that you run after. i do not run after any BTW.
ok. i'm happy you don't run after any charlatans because there are plenty of them out there waiting to devour the entire savings and lives of poor people who are seeking God.

Did i say that proportion in that verse means tithe? Why do you need me to tell you what i never said? i said people can give in proportion and i gave a Bible verse where people were directed to give in proportion. Tithe is a type of proportion, no?
You're trying very hard to twist this 1Cor 16:1-2 but it just refuses to be twisted.

So we can assume some in that congregation gave tithes and some gave other proportions right? Some might have given 20%, some 5% and some 70% but immediately somebody gives 10%, it means he gave tithes right? And those who refuse to give 10% don't honour God abi?

Can we then infer that every and any 10% proportion is a tithe?

smiley smiley You have real issues with a sharp tongue. Well, i'm not talking about crooks, i'm talking about God. Oferrings given in church belong to God and God acknowledges our offerings. We give as unto God, not unto men.
Col 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
If somebody lies to get money from another, is there another name for that person? a thief is a thief even if he's carrying a bible however distasteful you find it. Crooks in suits who call themselves pastors and collect money from folks and use the money to pay call girls are also collecting on God's behalf right? Rev King collected on God's behalf abi? Rev Jim Jones also collected on God's behalf right?

Even as i work in my office, i should do it like i'm doing it unto the Lord. That is the correct context in which the verse you quoted speaks. In eating, in playing, in working not only in giving. Pls don't narrow the context to fit your idea.

There is NO passage of scriptures that talks of pharisees running their lives to fulfill all righteousness. The Bible only talks of Christ Jesus doing that. i think that is the only place that phrase "fulfill all righteousness" is used. It is used of Christ and His. So when you say that is what pharisees do, it causes one to marvel. There is NOTHING wrong in fulfilling all righteousness. Do not trifle it as "just". Fulfilling all righteousness is NOT what pharisees do, it is what Jesus did. And we ought to walk even as He walked.
1Jo 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
It's sobering that you do not see this.

He didn't say it becometh ME to fulfill all righteousness.
Mat 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
No wahala. I wont flog this issue with you. I can't argue with the passage you quoted up there as i wont want to twist scriptures.

There is a sense in which i used it for the Pharisees and it was to show them as people who do things simply for their works to be seen and applauded of men.

Well, i didn't say that i've been trying to win arguments for over four years.
ok.

The discussion is about you and your likes making ridiculous claims in the attempt to make sure that people stop tithing. Again, if you do not want to give the tithe, no wahala. But stop making spurious and unverifiable claims.
You and your likes make horrible claims about tithes on NL. One of the worst claims on this tithe issue is that pastors are the priests after the order of Melchizedek. That is the height of blasphemy making pastors equal to the saviour.

That is not only making a claim, that is blasphemy.

Tithing in not Christian in whatever form. Giving in any measure you wish is.

i'm not a preacher, thanks. However, i discuss the Word of God the same way.
We are talking about tithes specifically my bro. Do you advice people to treat it the same way they treat sabbath for instance, at their discretion?

To confuse what issue. i simply showed you that freewill was also a command in the OT. It is possible for one to give the tithe frewill like i do.
No my bro. don't twist that scripture. That scripture was talking about a vow howbeit one you made freely.
Christianity EtcRe: The truth your pastor would not tell you about tithes by Candour(m): 7:33pm On Nov 12, 2013
Image123: Another attempt to inject spurious tales into truth. We are aware of, teach and do not contest what you wrote above. The spurious tales come in from the part i have colored green. What on earth is the triennial tithe? Hope it's not another bogus phrase to divert and obfuscate issues?
Are you aware of the tithe done every three years? do you know tri is a prefix meaning 3? I expect you to know that tri-ennial means every three years.

Meanwhile, you exaggerate when you say you teach Deut 14:22-29 because you don't. If you don't contest it, why don't you practice it? or that part of the bible is unprofitable for you?

There is no change whatsoever as you insinuated. The people of Nehemiah's time determined to obey the Word as it was commanded during the time of Moses, they did not modify it. i do not know why you have that idea that they modified it.
Neh 10:29 They cleaved to their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God's law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the LORD our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;
Can you show where Moses included storehouse in the tithe law he gave to Isreal? be kind to point it out for i can't find it. The first mention of a storehouse for tithes is found during Hezekiah's time as king of Judah

2Chr 31:11-12
'The Hezekiah commanded to prepare chambers in the house of the LORD; and they prepared them,12. And brought in the offerings and the tithes and the dedicated things faithfully: over which Cononiah the Levite was ruler, and Shimei his brother was next'

Solomon built this temple but with no chambers for tithes until Hezekiah's time. This became the practice that followed the Jews into captivity in Babylon and reenacted during Nehemiah's time.

Its so clear that i find it amusing you could miss it.

No, there is no such thing seen in the reference. It seems you spuriously see the word "ONLY" in every tithe passage. Here is the phrase on tithes from the passage again. Try to note that there is nothing like ONLY in that reference.
"the TITHES in all the cities of our TILLAGE.38.And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God"
Neh 10:37-38
'And that we should bring the first fruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the CHAMBERS of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the LEVITES, that the same LEVITES might have the TITHES in all the cities of our TILLAGE.38.And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the CHAMBERS, into the treasure house'

That's the reference again. Kindly explain verse 37 since you don't agree with my explanation.

Also pls note that every mention of tithe in the bible except Abram's tithe and that of the Self righteous Pharisee in the gospels always mentioned agric products only despite the fact that money had been in operation hundreds of years before Moses.

Deut 14:22-29 is one of the last passages that makes direct reference to tithe in the five books of Moses. Deuteronomy BTW is more of a rehash and summary of what has been previously said. Tithe was spoken of directly in Genesis, Leviticus and Numbers. In each of this books, the idea and the tithe talked about is the one that goes to the priest or the minister in the temple. It is in Deuteronomy that the other two popular tithes are talked of. Everybody already knew the MAIN tithe, that is, the 10% that leaves the individual's custody and goes into the minister's custody. Deut 14:22-29. and i think chapter 12 introduces two OTHER ones. Of this two, one is the one that you spend on yourself, family and neighbour levites IN Jerusalem or Shiloh annually as was supposed to be the case. The second of this other two is the one done once in three years AT home. These two are different from the common or main one that is given to the minister, which they store in the chamber or storehouse or whatever name. These two are what Deut 14:22-29 talks about in addition to the main one generally known. The tithe of Abraham and Jacob was not in this exact format and God accepted it. This is so plain but i expect your proud self to twist and turn yet.
Abram's tithe was not to just any minister but to Melchizedek who we all regard as a type of Christ. Is your pastor a type of Christ? Is your pastor your priest? If you're a Christian, you have one priest and he's in heaven right now and sure doesn't need tithes there.

Jacob's tithe was a vow contingent upon God performing a part of the bargain. I'm sure you wont tell us this is your format.

Lev 27:30-33 perfectly defines God's tithe but is silent on who receives it. If you can find the receiver there, pls show us. thank you

Num 18:26-28
'Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe.27.And this your heave offering shall be reckoned unto you, as though it were the corn of the threshingfloor, and as the fulness of the winepress.28.Thus ye also shall offer an heave offering unto the LORD of all your tithes, which ye receive of the children of Israel; and ye shall give thereof the LORD's heave offering to Aaron the priest.'

From the above, It's clear LEVITES own the tithes of the children of Israel while the PRIESTS represented by Aaron own a tenth of the tithes which translates to 1% of the tithes of the children of Israel.

Which of these two offices is being occupied by your pastors today? Levites or Priests? i will say none.

Will you tell me you still can't see a difference between these tithes and the caricature practiced in churches today?

The forum rules call it spamming, not me. A christian should be responsible enough as to abide by common rules governing where he operates.
Thanks a lot. Try and apply to be a MOD so you can effect the rules. Whenever you feign ignorance of the truth of Malachi, I'll ensure Oyaks devotional is on hand to remind you.

'Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. [25] But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.'

Can Image123 or another of the brethren kindly the explain the scripture above with respect to the old and new covenant?

Thanks in anticipation.

Bidam: Oh! BTW @candour,since you are always gingered by pride and people 'liking' your post. I was the one that added the last like so your efforts and mb are not wasted.
Really?? Hope you're not expecting me to return the 'favour'?

Thanks for your concern about my mb but its nothing really.

Also i do not sell suits but if you are in need of one, nothing is stopping me from buying and giving you.that is the love,it is not only by typing it here but by showing it.
Thanks for the offer but I don't need a suit. Spent seven years wearing them every working day. Think I've had my fill of them but if I need, I'll rather wait till I see evidence that tithe principle is working for you before burdening you with such. I wouldn't want to further deplete your resources.

Pls fell free to PM me anytime.cheesy
Don't worry. I won't
