With the introduction of “operation sweep” in collaboration with the police, robbers were ruthlessly dealt with. Touting became a risky venture and those who dared were not spared by the ruthless soldiers that formed part of the security team. Touts retuned to Lagos just before and after the 1999 election in Lagos.

Crisis developed between the petroleum people and herdsmen at the Mobil area, marine beach, Apapa, with the herdsmen destroying several trucks. Brig. Marwa banned roaming of cows in Lagos as a whole and ordered the herdsmen to relocate with their cows to Agege were a ranch and abattoir had been made available for them. A man accused of stealing N7 million Naira from his former employer and using it to open his own phone shop has been nabbed after two months, IgbereTV reports.
