Atk1nson:Inflation of what? ……Imported products? Even so all na lie. I repost my earlier post below. Having paid duty @N1000 will he calculate his prices to you based on N1000 he paid or the parallel market rate? No! He will charge you as if he paid the parallel market rate. So basically he is asking for a subsidy on imports…..who does that? Which country that wants to develop itself does that? Which citizen that. Wants the best of his country encourages that? casualobserver: |
a4cube:Like you know what IQ is? The job you and family don’t have is because the likes of OBi have killed local industries and local jobs with subsidized imports. |
Glassysea:He is talking nonsense. When he imports does he set the price he sells all the things he imports in his supermarkets based on N1000 to dollar or the current rate? So as an importer who imports things that can be manufactured in Nigeria, he wants to pocket the difference because he won’t pass on the savings to you. Obi and his ilk are the very people who have destroyed this country via rent seeking. Firstly they will import using official rate, they will pay duty based on official rate and they will charge the public prices based on the parallel rate and pocket the difference. All that money should have gone to the government to provide social services, schools roads etc. When we tell you the likes of Obi that ruined this country, this is how they do it. Government is now saying no more!!! You will buy forex at the market rate and pay duty at the market rate. If people cannot afford your imported products then make them here or find something else doing. We are not subsidizing imports and overseas jobs anymore. |
Is that Prada I am seeing? Labour Party chairman is wearing Prada developing a taste for luxury goods? What will he wear if his party gets to power?
|
Atk1nson:If anything it shows Obi hasnt got a clue and . You pay duty at the exchange rate on the day you pay the duty, thats the practice all over the world. he is effectively asking for subsidy for importers. If between the time you buy your forex and the day to pay duty the rate changes thats your own business Risk Mr importer of toothpicks. |
Ogiame:ALL nIgerians are crooks. Good Nigerians generally dont go to work for government or take appointments because most want to do good when they get there and they know they cannot without corruption getting in the way. Out of those left, the further you have been away from the national pie, the more likely you will spend your early days or term in government stealing and amassing wealth. You are more likely to get a man who has been in corridors of power for a long time genuinely wanting to work for the people than one who has been out for a long time or never been in power. it is usually after they have stolen and stolen that they realise they have to work for the people or they wont enjoy their stolen money. |
I said it during the elections, people that have not seen money in their life (LP) and those whose source of income has been dry for years (PDP) are the worst people to put in government at this time. The 1st thing in their minds when they get to power is “this is my opportunity, I must secure my generations”. Those who work and try to do the right things when they get into office or power are those who are not hungry. Obi may not be hungry but look at those he surrounds himself with…they are the definition of hunger! LP and PDP because they have either never tasted power or have been out of power at the center for so long will spend the 1st 4 years minimum lining their pockets. |
Fineman2:Europe is finished. Worst of all is that they cant even run their country or pay their pensioners without immigrants...mostly African immigrants. |

KingKO22:Do you understand what the word “ illegal” in “32 illegal smuggling routes means”? Should we open dictionary for you? |
It turns out I was right, media reports coming in Speak of multiple interceptions of multiple trucks in Sokoto and Zamfara (2 xamples) attempting to carry grains across the border. You could either say we are our own worst enemies in this country or that this is simple market economics at work. After all the supposed benefit of devaluation is to make exports more competitive. casualobserver:
|
faceland:I am sure they are selling them across the border |
most of the costs of farm products in Nigeria are local. There is no reason for farm products to increase with the fall in naira. Petrol prices went up in may 2023 not gone up since, so what is the excuse? how does dollar affect the price of local rice, cassava, corn, shorghum, onions, yam, ewedu, pepper etc….are they imported…no! So this has nothing to do with dollar on the surface!!! IMHO the only logical reason for the increase is that due to devaluation, Nigerian farm products are now cheaper for our neighbours across the borders so just like petrol that was smuggled to neighboring countries, traders make more money if they sell farm products across the border creating local shortfall. It I s cheaper to buy farm products from Nigeria creating huge demand for Nigerian farm produce. When demand outstrips supply prices go up. . |
routed:Gbam! That is why I say if he backs down I won’t forgive him because it means once again we endured pain for nothing!!! |
Usmanovic95:What food did your grandfather eat as a Nigerian? That is the food for the Nigerian poor. We have been spoilt too much and for too long. This is not just for the poor. The middle class that ignored the problems of Nigeria too will be forced to take interest in the problems of Nigeria. When they can no longer afford to send their children abroad to school or to go abroad for medical trips they will be forced to stand up for local education and healthcare which will also benefit the poor. So this is a God send, it is another opportunity for a reset. I hope we don’t miss it because we take political or tribal positions. The poor need to feel pain, the middle class need to feel pain, the rich need to feel pain, those in power n Ed to feel pain and that pain needs to be so severe that we are so scarred we say never again are we going back to the habits of 1970-2023! |
Usmanovic95:I am not goin to argue with you minions. You change your habits or nothing changes. I am old enough to have gone through many economic upheavals in this country, I have seen the entire Naira devaluation from beginning to now. We endure difficulties, we don’t change our habits and we push the problems a few years down the road, rinse repeat. If the masses are not ready to change their habits, fine but the problem will not go away. Buhari for instance did not want to inflisct pain so he tried to postpone the inevitable, in the end he only created a bigger problem. Imported rice and bread are not foods of the poor. Every government in the world changes habits of its people through pricing because that’s the language people understand. In the UK it may shock you that the UK makes more money from oil that we who produce the oil ( yes I know they have their own). They control parking via taxes, they control driving habits via fines. This is how all countries operate. They want you to drive electric vehicles they make it too expensive for you to drive a petrol or diesel powered car. If you want to stop the masses from a habit of making their staples dependent on imported rice and wheat, you have to make bread and imported rice so expensive that it either 1) forces people to choose locally grown foods or 2) cause such a price increase that it is cheaper to grow and produce wheat or rice in Nigeria. What I can gather from the responses of many Nigerians is that they are not ready for a great country. It’s just that one shares a country with you people. The British, the Americans, the Germans the Russians etc take pride in products produced in their countries. It takes a lot for citizens of these countries to buy foreign products when they have local alternatives. The Nigerian brain however feels it is ok to damage his own economy and export jobs abroad through his consumption habits and blame government the the resultant problem. I will not forgive Tinubu if he backs down on these reforms, as it is I am unhappy he has reintroduced subsidy, we all need to rest our brains and as the wild animals that we seem to be, it is only pain that will cause that reset. I don’t know when i. Lasisi and Chinedu’s ancestry that imported rice and bread from imported wheat became your staple food……nonsense!!!!1 Foreign countries that eat foreign foods do do because they can afford to because they have grown their countries and have things which other countries want. If you feel you have a right to eat bread with imported wheat and foreign rice, no problem. Nobody will tell you to do the needful when bread N4000. If sense does not fall upon you at N4000 a loaf it will continue to rise till it gets to a level where you and sense become friends. Whatever the price that will cause to you eat local foods is the price rice and bread will get to before you acquaint yourself with sense. Those who can afford it will afford when, you on your N100-200k a month salary, nobody will tell you before sense hits you that your own food and the food of your ancestors is Akara and ogi. |
Usmanovic95:Oga, the difference between phone and bread is that the phone has proved to be a benefit, having a phone adds value to your life, to efficiency to the economy., whereas bread that you import the ingredients has destroyed your local jobs and your economy and you were eating fine before bread came into your life. Bottom line is this, because Nigerians like to argue. If we want to develop the country, we need to look inwards, if you want to continue your love for foreign products, fine go ahead but t know there is a price to pay. If you want to eat bread, farm cassava or wheat and convert it to flour but I’d you want to eat bread from wheat you don’t produce, carry on ,Anne when bread gets to N4000, you will remember we farm beans and maize in Nigeria and your forefathers ate them and we’re healthy and didn’t die of cancer. Life is about choices, every choice has consequences, some good some bad. If you have cancer, you have 4 choices, you either 2) pretend you don’t have a problem and one day it will kill you 2) try quacks, native doctors and prescriptions that are not proven to work or 3) you try surgery that has been proven to work for some and you may be healed or you may be saved or 4) listen to your pastor and spend your time doing night vigil etc…it’s all about choices. The one thing for sure if you have cancer and if you do nothing you will die, it’s only a matter of time. You lay your bed you lie on it but you will go to sleep. I’m done here! |
Agbegbaorogboye:You really are daft, I am clearly dealing with an imbecil3. 1). Is govt not earning 4 times what it used to earn in Naira for every dollar of crude or gas! 2) has government salaries gone up 4 times 3) has the repayment of Naira loans taken before May 29 2023 gone up? You are daft. This has nothing to do with TSA. Don’t comment on things beyond your pay grade, we are not in a beer parkour. |
Usmanovic95:Whatever the cost, it is a Naira cost, I know for a fact that a loaf of bread is N1500, you can feed your family with akara or moi-moi for N1500 but I am not sure that loaf will feed the family satisfactorily. Like I said the jobs involved in making akara are all local, the jobs involved in making the bread is majorly exported to wheat farmers abroad. Besides it is healthier for you. Correct me if I am wrong , there is no language in Nigeria that has a word for “bread”…. That tells you it is not part of our normal diet, it is a foreign concept, it is not something that should be a main staple of the masses of Nigeria. |
maestroferddi:You are and your type are daft and fueled by ignorance, anger and hate with a large slice of low intelligence and an inate inability to understand and analyze issues so you would not understand. The beauty of mathematics is that it is not subject to opinion, 1+1 is either 2 or it is not. If my figures are incorrect, challenge them….nitw1t! |
Agbegbaorogboye:Did you go to school, do you understand basic arithmetic? As at May 28 2023, if Nigeria gets $1b from oil, they convert it at the official rate and it is N 400b. Today the dollar is approx 1600, which means the same $1b is converted to the government coffers and becomes N1.6 trillion…that is 4 times what used to enter the government coffers. Now, government’s Naira expenditure has not gone up by a factor of 4. For instance salaries have not gone up 4 fold, Naira repayment of previous government domestic debts have not and will not go up, because the loans were in the past and the repayment are fixed in Naira. So let’s say govt expenses have gone up to N600b from N400b, it means government needs only $400m of the $1b it earns from oil ($400m x 1600 = N640m) to meet its Naira obligations, which leaves it with $600m…..and that is how they are still able to pay subsidy. Without floating the Naira they would not have been able to. That said, there should be absolutely no subsidy. We need to change our habits. The only way you change habits is to make them painful. People need to think twice before they embark on a journey, when choosing the type of cars they buy etc. |
Usmanovic95:AMEN! You have no business eat8ng bread with imported flour and you will not change your ways until bread became too expensive for you. You grandfather ate akara and ogi produced by local farmers which contributed to the economy of Nigeria and jobs for Nigerians. When did bread become part of your diet of the average Nigerian…..nonsense! Bread is produced using imported wheat produced by foreign farmers. If you still want to eat bread, either produce wheat in Nigeria or be prepared to pay the price. |
Agbegbaorogboye:You do not understand economics, this thing is above your pay grade. We had no money as at May 29. We devalued the Naira which means the government is now getting 4 times more Naira that it did for every barrel of crude it sells. This means that for every dollar it used to get it needs less dollars to convert to Naira to meet its local obligations. Which means it can keep more of the dollars it earns and use for other things like subsidy although I have said subsidy should be removed totally. We are feeling pain because we did. It do what we needed to do at the right time. Petrol should be N1200, we are merely delaying the pain by reintroducing subsidy through the back door. If petrol needs to go to N2000, so be it. We need to change our habits. They don’t drive the cars we drive in Europe because petrol is expensive. It is only in Nigeria you will see a poor man driving a V8 gas guzzling used Lexus. |
Agbegbaorogboye:Devaluation of the Naira which means more Naira revenue. Also the removal of subsidy has reduced the amount of petrol consumed. Petrol needs to revert to market price of approx N1200 because smuggling will resume and we will be back to square 1. That is why I say I am not happy with him that he seems to have backtracked and has introduced subsidy through the back door. |
Usmanovic95: Orubebe01:Whoever became president of Nigeria these problems would have manifested. Of the 3, Tinubu was and remains the most capable of solving the problem, if he can’t none of the 3 can…certainly not Peter Obi. My problem is that he seems to be back tracking on subsidy. The medicine needs to be swallowed. People need to change their habits, a poor man has no business driving a 5 liter SUV, poor Nigerians have no business, eating bread made with imported flour, eat akara and ogi like our fathers made with local farmed ingredients, poor people have no business using imported hair, poor people have no business consuming staples that are imported. My problem is that unless we feel the pain we will not change and I am beginning to worry that Tinubu is backtracking because of the pain….the pain needs to be felt for people to change their habits. Tinubu did not create this problem, Buhari and jonathan did. Whoever became president, Nigeria would have fallen and Petrol prices would have gone up resulting in inflation..it was unavoidable. All 3 candidates said they would remove subsidy and float the Naira. We were borrowing to subsidize petrol, we borrowed so much that the oil we produce in future has already been sold. The Chinese had stopped lending us money years ago. There is no money. If Obi or Atiku tells you today they would have removed sibsidy gradually, ask them where would they have gotten the money to continue the subsidy? We cannot continue with our penchant for imported goods….this is exactly what Peter obi has been preaching that we need to move from consumption to production. This is how moving from consumption to production looks like, you have to make imported goods so expensive that we are forced to look inwards. When did bread become part of the diet of a poor Nigerian? If you must eat bread produce your flour locally!,, Heavy is the head that wears the crown. The job of a good leader is to take the right decisions and stick to it. He said he asked for the job, now he has got the job, he needs to see it to the end. There will be pain, there will be suffering but thre has been pain and suffering since 1984 and it lingered because we did not sustain the reforms. Tinubu needs to sustain the reforms even if it costs him his second term, it is the only way Nigeria can move forward. Again I repeat we need to change our habits and the only way people change is through pain. |
crossfm:They are now preaching special categories of Christians? This is how you know you are dealing with a fake church. This is how they brainwashed them and we’re humiliated when they were in the presidency. |
Omobude244:You were born I. Lagos does not mean anything, it does not mean you have access to know what is really happening. Born in Lagos or live in Lagos just means you hear the same lies and rumours and some truths like every other taxi driver, student, beer parkour patron. Things that may or may not be true but you don’t know because you are not in in the loop Don’t think because I have been responding to you, I deem you worth of engagement or that I intend to continue. I know you are brain dead and a lost cause. I respond because others with sense and an open mind also read these posts. I am done with you…..good riddance! |
Omobude244:I heard since he became president he has also bought half of Nigeria, he owns Dangote, Julius Berger, even Peter Obi’s NEXY he has bought.. 1mbeciles! |
Omobude244:You have so much hatred in your hearts you are devoid of reason. Oriental hotel is owned by a Hong Kong family that has been In existence in Nigeria manufacturing for over 50 years. Tinubu was still a student when these people we’re making money in Nigeria. Because you don’t know what who they are, because like the Lebanese the Indians and the Sri Lankans in Nigeriathey don’t make noise and because you have no connections to the top tier of Nigerian society you don’t know who is really making money in Nigeria except your fellow Nigerians who make noise. You will be shocked that some of the richest people in Nigeria are actually foreigners. You do t know because you have no access to their circles. For instance the father of the man who married Trumps daughter made his money In Nigeria, the boy actually was born and grew up in Nigeria. I am sure many of you ignoramuses have never heard of him. Because you don’t know of them and because it is Lagos you and your fellow brain dead compatriots automatically assume it is owned by Tinubu. Tinubu is no saint and there are certain allegations you will make and I won’t contest ( did you see me dispute Alpha Beta?). But attempt to get your facts right. |
Omobude244:The company with alleged links to Tinubu is Hi-Tech. If you go to SW states you will see Hi-Tech doing jobs especially in Lagos. Why have you never seen a Setraco job anywhere in the SW if it is his company? Like I said everyone knows you people are incapable of thinking. And by the way Tinubu has no association with Oriental hotels. I know that for a fact. |
Omobude244:This is why people say you people are brain dead. You have a computer in your hands. All you had to do was google before you posted. In which case you would have discovered 3 directors including the chairman with the surname “Inu-Umoru”… a pointer to who owns the company. You will also have discovered that at the time the company was formed, Tinubu was still working in America. https://www.setraco.net/about Cc:ekhai

insidelife22:Why should they? I have been hammering the point for the last few days that no one can care about you more than you care about yourself. You have to demonstrate that you care about yourself before I can pick up the baton to care for you otherwise any care I have for you and any effort I make on your behalf will be wasted. Before you insult and abuse me think about what I just said. Can you help a drug addict or a gambler who is not ready to quit? Will you work for your money to be successful and see a poor man giving the little he has to pastors and give him money when he says he is hungry? The answer is no because you know where the money is going. When the masses show that they are sincere and genuine about changing their lot, then those who can help them will be forced to help them even if they don’t want to. Nobody can care about you more than you care about yourself and you must demonstrate that you want to change your story if you want people to help you. If I want to change your life more than you do, then I will only waste my time, effort and resources. I will give you another example, in other climes where the elites are responsible to the masses, it is the masses that donate to the campaign of the leaders, even if it is $1, £1 or N50, that is how you signal to the elites you are serious. However in Nigeria, the masses demand money, food etc to vote for the elite…you expect them to use their own money to pay you to vote for them…why then should they care about you? Have you given them any reason to care? |
