ValarDoharis:Like I said the problem we have in Nigeria is English. We speak but we don’t understand. When you sit for an exam, the results are marked, verified and then announced. If the results are announced electronically without verification and all that matters is what is electronically transmitted, then a hacker can simply hack the server and what you wrote does not matter. Ultimately the results originate from the results signed at the polling unit and there must be a paper trail for verification and to prevent hacking. An unpopular candidate cannot win an election under the current system because there is a paper trail of evidence. Electronic transmission is exactly what will bring about unpopular candidates winning because they will simply hack the server. No server in unhackable! Ultimately he only proof of who won an election is the manual collation of polling unit results of which every party agent and the police have copies. The real problem is some Nigerians never accept results except they win and whatever system you give them they will complain. Only in Nigeria will someone who got 200 votes contest a result against someone who got 10,000. Anybody with common sense knows the reason Atiku and Obi lost is because they parted ways. If they stayed together and got 12.7m votes they won’t say INECrigged the election. It is not INEC’s fault PDP did not get its house in order or Obi felt he was bigger than PDP. Atiku, Obi and Kwakwanso together got 14.7m votes. If they had found a way or a permutation to stay together, one of them would be president because Nigerians Rejected APC. APClost 4 millions votes from 2019, going from 12.6 to 8.7m votes. So Nigerians did their bit but the opposition failed to do its bit and instead split its votes. There is nothing wrong with the current system or INEC. The results are fair and legitimate which is why neither Atiku or Obi could provide ( or attempted to provide) any evidence of rigging and instead based their entire case on disqualification. People look for someone or something to blame but themselves. That is why neither Obi or Atiku learnt from 2019 and they clearly have learnt nothing from 2023. |
fergie001:1 and 2 make sense. I agree with you about 4. As for no 3. We again will encounter the problem with English which was the problem in the 2023 elections. Transmission of results for viewing and monitoring is not the same thing as validly collated results. Let us not create problems because we do not understand English properly. Let us not create expectations we are incapable of delivering. IREV is a viewing portal not a certified collated results platform. Even the US, with all their technology does not transfer all results on the days of elections. What they do is they estimate the winner based on results coming and and the likely hood of the challengers to overcome the leader, in reality the final results are often not known for days! Remember what happened in Florida with George Bush? Let us not give electronic transmission capacity and powers it does not have and create new problems in a knee jerk response to our failure to understand the purpose of irev. Irev does not collate results, neither was it meant to be. The purpose of electronic transmission is so citizens can see the results of their PU. It is not a collation center and should not be. If we make electronic transmission a collation center, we make it vulnerable to hackers. Sometimes we just like to amend laws for amendment sake. The electoral law is probably one of the best in the world. The problem is Nigerians and there is nothing or no law that can save Nigerians from Nigerians. Nigerians will always reject results that don’t go their way and blame the umpire. |
There is nothing more annoying than hearing “sorry” from Nigerians. What is annoying is 1) it will happen again and 2) it’s what they say because they refuse to think before they act. |
Hardly any LP candidates and where there are Lp candidates they performed miserably. 2027 will come around they will claim they won presidential election but were rigged. How can you win a national election when in many parts of the country you have no presence such that you can’t even find candidates to fly your flag? |
Dbegining:The irony is that you think this is banter, pointscoring or jokes. Obidients are turning themselves into a lower subspecies….a laughing stock devoid of any intellect. And the voters are realizing it. Look at the results of elections in yesterdays polls. Even in Ebonyi, LP came 4th!!!! |
U09ce:I have been telling people that eyes have opened and people are beginning to see through LP and Obi. The more he seeks attention, the more he exposes his shallowness. People did not have enough time to examine the man and they got swept up in the Euphoria. Wait till 2027, you will see. I have said it many times, the man is not strategic, he is an opportunist, what the Americans call a snake oil salesman….a fraud! If he had any sense he would keep quiet between now and 2027…but he has no sense and so he will be demystified by 2027. He won’t get the 6m votes he got in 2023 in 2027. |
Dbegining:You are Obidients, there is nothing to address. Secondly it’s a waste of time reading an epistle by an Obidient ( I am not sure which one of you wrote the epistle but I didn’t read it. An Obidient is a person with a low IQ as far as I am concerned. No need for long story. |
Yampotatocarrot:the people who store large amounts of cash are usually people engaged in illegal activities….people whose monies are illicit. Many of those with dom accounts are hard working Nigerians who only use dom accounts because they are fearful of losing their entire net worth and life’s investment by investing in Naira assets. They’ve seen their parents work hard, build houses, buy shares only for those investments to be worth nothing upon retirement because they didn’t keep up with Naira devaluation over the years. For many a significant portion of their net worth is in their dom accounts because history has shown them that even if you don’t earn much in interest, you are better off than most who bought Naira property or shares and tell you their shares or property went up by xx%…until they convert to dollars and realize actually they lost money. . We are talking about enlightened people here, Such people are not going to keep their nest eggs in cash. |
seguno2:. There is a difference between keeping $10,000 or less in cash and keeping millions of dollars in cash. If dom accounts are banned, only f000ls will keep their dollars in cash…..theft, fire etc Like I said, forget about politicians. There are many professionals whose wealth is in their dom account because that is what makes sense in a country where Naira investment makes no sense. Nobody who is that enlightened and legitimate will keep his money in cash. Most likely a ceiling will be put on how much you can have in a dom account maybe $10,000. |
Dbegining: Zeebuy:The two of you and all you Obidients should rest. Tinubu is president not Obi who will never be president. We are dealing with realities not fantasies! |
Queseda:There may be traders with don accounts but the true dom account holder is someone who has realized as far back as 2015-2019 that investing in property or stocks in Nigeria contrary to popular belief is a destroyer of wealth. Whereas Naira value may go up if you convert to dollars you likely lost money. So many professionals have resorted to investing abroad or keeping their money in dollar dom accounts. When they earn in Naira and convert to dollars, the money remains in dollars. Most of these people earn enough in Naira not to need to convert any of their dollars to Naira. The currency trader on the other hand buys and sells so he creates demand and supply of dollars. But I believe they are simply following the direction dictated by the dom holders. So long as the dom holders are holding and not selling, Naira will continue falling. Again I am no expert. |
Celestialsword:Oga please talk with some sense. Don accounts contain $30b Oga nobody stores that amount of dollars at home. |
Lemos14:Now you know to borrow yourself a brain. |
Lemos14:Because it was unnecessary. The point is my economic lively hood is not dependent on the value of the Naira How do I impoverish this country? Am I a govt contractor? The company I represent provides services to multinationals. We do not do business with any government or govt agency. |
Lemos14:Oga please don’t copy me o. Me I am not feeling any pain o! If anything g I am better off. Copy those whose lifestyle and income in dependent on the economy of Nigeria and want to vote in charlatans. Copy those who want a great country without sacrifice. Copy those who feel they have an entitlement to harvest without sowing. I am based in Nigeria but we are not the same o! Don’t think because we are interacting on Nairaland our economic power and source of income and immunity from the Nigerian economy is the same. It is not me that will suffer for bad choices you make. Whatever happens in Nigeria I am good and if it gets too too bad I have British passport. The butter pill Nigerians have avoided taking for years they will take and are taking now and if they reject it, the pill they will take in future will be even more unpalatable. Better buckle up and adjust your lifestyles. |
Lemos14:He said it before the elections and said it only last week that he agrees fully with subsidy removal. His only problem according to him is that the benefits of the subsidy removal are not being felt. The point here is you have no point. Whoever won the election would have removed subsidies and unified the exchange rate or else the person had no clue. So complaining about a necessary but bitter pill because it is not your guy in power even though he would have done the same is hypocrisy!!!
|
Penguin2:But excuse me, Tinubu is only doing what Peter so I himself said he would do. Obi said 1: he would remove subsidy 2: he would abolish the artificial exchange rate |
Jesus wept!! |
Queseda:I do not like to comment on things I know nothing about. I am no expert on Crypto, binance and all that…..however I wouldn’t worry about them because they are temporary people…when they buy, they must sell to crystallize their profit so the net effect is negligible unlike the dom account holder who buys dollars and keeps his money permanently in dollars. The trader creates demand when he buys and then creates a supply when he sells but the dom account holder is a hoarder, he creates demand but never sells….I may be wrong. If I were to guess I would say they are trading based on the hoarding patterns of the dom account holders. |
seguno2:Why is the Naira falling? Because there is speculative purchase of dollars. Why is there speculative purchase? because people feel it wil continue to go lower and so it feeds on itself. There is forex in the system, the problem is people are buying dollars not to purchase anything but to preserve their wealth, this is because we have dom accounts, so you can buy dollars and do nothing with it. Meanwhile those who have legitimate need for dollars are competeting with those who just want to buy dollars to put in their dom accounts. The frenzy has started, Naira can easily hit N4000:$1. The only way to stop the slide is to ban dom accounts at which point the only people buying dollars will be those who have legitimate businesses and those willing to store in cash. Mark it down that I said it here, the only solution and the only point at which the decline will stop is when dom accounts are banned. Our yearly import bills are less than the yearly forex inflows (official and unofficial) so clearly this decline in Naira is speculation and hoarding. |
Kriss100:But you had no problem linking Obi to achievement of the Eagles? |
seguno2:With due respect, think before you comment. 1. Who are the people with Dom accounts? 2: disporans do not send dollars to Nigeria to remain dollars. There is a Naira purpose for every dollar sent home. The dollars you see in dom accounts are the elite buying dollars they do not need. The $30b sitting in dom accounts are owned by no more than 1m people, 98% of which are well off. They don’t keep the money in dom accounts to do business but to preserve their wealth. |
They should just convert dom accounts into Naira. What are you doing with a domiciliary account if you are not involved in international trade….you are simply buying forex creating scarcity. It will be unpopular among the elite but it needs to be done. They are the ones killing the dollar. |
RepoMan007:I wonder if he is also a former governor. |
I am totally in support of converting dom accounts to Naira. They are the ones killing the Naira. They are the ones buying dollars just to put in the bank. The Farmers, students, bus drivers, don’t have dom accounts. If you really are someone who has legitimate need for forex, you will have an account abroad. Dom account holders have abused the privilege and have become currency speculators. |
naptu2:They should though. If you don’t earn or conduct business in forex what do you need a dom account for except currency speculation? I read somewhere that even in Saudi residents are not allowed to keep foreign currency longer than 1 month. |
christejames:The problem with the insane is they think they are sane! |
Okwyjesus:Looking at Aso rock from a distance is in his DNA |
Excuzeme:You are free to tell yourself whatever you need to tell yourself to make you sleep well at night. You won an election but you went to court and did not make any attempt to prove you won, instead you spent all your efforts trying to disqualify. You have polling agents, you have the original result sheets. If results were tampered, why didn’t you tender the originals? The gap between Tinubu and Obi was 2.7m votes. They stole 2.7m votes from you and you went to court and could not show a single polling station where your votes were stolen? It’s either you are lying or you are incompetent. If you are so incompetent that you could not manage your own campaign, how can you be trusted to run a complex country? You don’t win elections by propaganda. Irev is a viewing portal, it is not used for collation. Collation is done manually using EC8 forms of which all parties have copies and all parties are present at the collation centers. Like I always say, you have to be a bit intellectually deficient to be an Obidient. I don’t have a problem with people being opposed to Tinubu or Atiku or to APC or PDP. You lose all credibility when you then present a charlatan like Obi and quacks like Abure as the alternative. The problem isn’t APC or PDP or Tinubu or Atiku, the problem you people fail to realize is that people would rather vote for Atiku or Tinubu with all their flaws than vote for OBI. If you had any brains, you would reflect on this last statement I made. No matter how bad they are the majority of Nigerians think Obi will be worse. Peter Obi is like Sowore, just a bigger version. They can contest for the next 20 years, they will never become president, their votes will never increase. Why? Because the people whose votes they need to become president are not attracted to their brand of politics, they way they carry themselves etc. The same religion card divide and conquer tactics that Obi tried that rubbed people the wrong way is the same tactics he is trying with his constant attempts to hug the news for any cause. It may appeal to you the mentally challenged Obidient but your votes were not enough to get him into office and they won’t be enough in 2027 and that’s not the way to persuade APC and PDP voters to vote for him. Act like a state an and if APC or PDP supporters may be persuaded in 2027, continue to act like an opportunist and his votes will not increase. Electioneering is about persuasion, if you weren’t able to persuade me the last time and you did not win, you can’t continue with the same type of behavior and expect me to change my vote. APC people don’t like him and those left in PDP hate him because they blame him for snatching defeat from their moment of destiny and yet he is continuing the same behavior that landed him 3rd place. For example, If part of the problem I had with you was the caliber of people around you, at least try to surround yourself with people with achievements so we have an idea of your team, instead he keeps surrounding himself with the likes of Aisha, Julius, Dele, that clown of an actor lawyer and other charlatans. I don’t like Atiku, but he has some brilliant intellectual minds around him like Osita Chidoka and Segun Sowunmi. Obi’s close people are clowns! You may not understand this but put Obi to one side, many of us cannot imagine a country where Aisha, Julius, Dele, the actor lawyer are the people running things and influencing policy…..God Forbid!,, instead he goes to visit Seyi Makonde and who are the people in his entourage…..these clowns! You have no idea how repulsive that image is….that these are the people that will be in charge of Nigeria? Have a look at the picture below, add okonkwo and Abure….these are the people you want to put Nigeria in their hands? Is Nigeria a local government or a school PTA or residents association that these clowns will be in charge? Look at them…this would have been the Presidential inner caucus. What is the resume or professional achievement of his closet advisers? This is why we say he is not presidential material and going to eagles match only appeals to the shallow minds that already voted for him in 2023.

Vinnie2000:Thankfully Nigerians are not that daft as to elect Peter Obi |
I am just waiting for 2027 polls for this man’s political career to be buried once and for all. Everything thing he turns into opportunistic politics. |
