justwise:Your post is one sided. Highlighting only the EU part and leaving out the Non-Eu part of my post displays you lack the ability to grasp the idea of the entire post. Rather than picking just ''Jesus wept'' in the bible, why not read the entire book to find out what led to 'Jesus weeping'? |
justwise:Now you are quoting me out of context. You know what I was referring to when I first posted about UK and their views on immigration and you understood clearly I was referring to the bigger picture. But you chose to remain adamant and now you've twisted it to a myopic debate on UK/EU as though this was the beginning of the drama. It's baseless arguing with you. You used to be a lot wiser before, but now whatever respect I have left is on the edge with this awful display of mediocrity on your part. |
justwise:You are entitled to your opinion, it doesn't matter if they vote yes or no. The intention in itself is enough for all to see where the government stands on immigration. And let me repeat, I do not warn people about the UK leaving the EU, it makes no sense to do that. I was educating you about something you denied ever existed. It's an example of the change in immigration policies to discourage immigration to the UK which I write about. They are done with internationals, EU is next. If you have nothing better to do with your time castigating people, quit the name. |
This post is for someone on this thread. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-32872211 |
I would not fault GeneralShepherd for his statements as I see some might want to, I think he only found out how different, things seem to be while in the Uk compared to the celestial vision painted by impressionists to Nigerians in social media, online forums and the likes. The person who recently posted about his new job also previously shared similar ideology about Uk taking advantage of international students. (refer to page 100 of this thread). The fact remains, one size doesn't fit all. People should assess their prospects and plan according to their situations. While I do not deny the presence of these problems General shepherd writes of, I think more importantly, it is relative to the person viewing it and they have to see if this applies to their situation or not (afterall he was advising someone he probably imagined to be in such peculiar situation and not throwing it all out for all and sundry). Bottom Line: Dont rush into a country with your money cos you heard a lot of flashy tales without doing your research to assess how you fit into the picture. A COUPLE OF MORE WORDS ON THE POWER OF OPINION-DRIVEN ADVICE Advice is given for suggestive reference not to be taken as paths set in stone. That's what we have our minds for - Decision Making. And I believe everyone has a sound mind on this thread to make decisions that benefit them. Therefore no matter how unconventional someone elses advice might seem, remember they might have worthy experiences that have brought about their decision to thread that line of thought. However, advice shouldnt be imposed, leave room for the advicee to make judgements in their individual contexts. That said, I believe everyone can learn a thing or two from each other if we focus more on what some of the statemets(advice) made here could mean to others who might have different reasons for reading this thread than the majority and who (for reasons best known to them) might not be able to post but follow whatever advice they see here that concerns them. Apologies if this took too long to get my point across. |
This whole dp talk is crap, people need to mind their business and not judge others in their personal space. The researchers are from india or middle-east (if you look at their names) and the data collected to arrive at whatever the OP posted were from within their countries and culture not a global perspective. They can't assume the whole world behaves in the same way they do. Some people just like to change their dp's for fun not because they have any reasons to or feel incomplete in any way. |
Krisgift:Anytime dear |
I think the best thing to do is to pray for your dad. This is a more difficult decision for him than it probably is for you or your siblings. He is the one who would have to live alone with this woman for the rest of his life when you all leave home. I would also advice you and your siblings stick together now more than ever, have meetings to discuss the future of the family, I'm believing most of you are old enough to make reasonable decisions from dialogue (being the fifth child at 21). I don't see how a step mother would make things difficult for an united family (you and your siblings). Your dad is retired and might not be able to do too much for you all now, its time to step up to the plate and focus on helping each other and your dad as well including the lady if she does join the family. In conclusion: You guys have more responsibility for the family now more than ever. |
You know, I just thought it would be cool to chip in a few words. Some advice for the church going ladies. it could apply to both men and women but I have used the female gender in my analogy as the topic refers to them. Work on being a true Christian Lady Being a prayer warrior who prays only for material wealth and to fight enemies you have created through your hatred not spiritual growth doesn't make you a Christian Being in every fellowship only for the sole reason of finding potential husbands doesn't make you a Christian Being a choir mistress who looks down on the poor people in your group doesn't make you a Christian Being self righteous and insulting those who God sent you to convert doesn't make you Christian. (Yes even sinners deserve pity not contempt). Wearing long skirts and a scarf in church and fantasizing consistently about things of the flesh doesn't make you Christian. Being obedient to your pastor but disrespectful to elders/parents including anyone who God has placed above or below you isn't being a Christian. My point is: Being good/Christian is a thing of the heart. When I was very little, a teacher once said to us, ''Children you have to be good, because if you are bad and you go to heaven, Jesus would have to run away from heaven. He can't live with people who are bad because you would cause trouble for Him". Now as an Adult, it makes more sense to me, God wont let you to enter heaven if you would cause trouble for the citizens there. It wont be fair for the good people in heaven to be treated badly by the bad people who bring their bad behavior to the Kingdom. God is Love and if you can't Love your neighbor you can't Love everyone in heaven and God has already promised everyone in heaven Love. Example: Lets say God lets you into heaven, then you see a man who used to be in ragged clothes on earth saying hi to you and you ignore him because you feel you were better than him on earth would you be fit to be in that Kingdom? You can see now that it is all about our hearts/character. If this is so, look at the points I raised, In Nigeria a lot of people treat God like a local diety, they only go to him to receive power to achieve their selfish interests and forget they can't live outside the Love he has given. If it is God's will that you should get married, think about the person you are, if this God you claim to love so much gives you a husband, would your character be good for him? Would it be fair for God to give you to a just man? Would that be answering the husband's request for a good wife? God would not seem fair if he gives good things to people who would abuse them. Marriage is the sacrament of Love. If you can't show love to your neighbor where would you find it to give to your husband? Ladies if you can grasp this simple principle I assure you, your husband would locate you in the fastest time possible. God isn't asleep (Remember Genesis 24:12), he just wants to be sure those who truly love Him get the best deal. If you have been trying to do what is right and you don't see the man forthcoming it doesn't mean God has abandoned you, he is trying to find the one who matches your qualification and that is why you must pray for those who have fallen, if God can't find a good man for you he would probably expect you to work on making them Good enough or he would bless your singlehood. But this is when you are free from blame, perfect your ways with the help of the Holy Spirit and what you desire would come freely. |
Scenario: A girl from your office, department, school, neighbourhood. 1: When she suddenly turns Christian and starts attending your fellowship, sits close to you so when they sing ''hold somebody...tell em...'' she's right there beside you. 2. When you see her with a gigantic android with internet timer right in front of her table and she still walks over to yours just to ask you the time. 3. When she starts asking you if her dress makes her look fat and its apparent she wore something that accentuates her shape, that isn't a green light but a fully lit Christmas tree. 4. When you show up in the vicinity she's in, she hides/runs away if she doesn't have make-up on or her hair isn't well made. 5. When your friends show up she tries to be very nice to you. hopefully they'll see what you cant see and then talk to you about her in her absence. |
Interesting statements on this thread. Well here is what I think. Your choice of a partner was all wrong from the start, if you try to bring out the best in a woman/man and s/he clearly shows s/he seeks nothing more than your money/sex? You shouldn't date him/her to begin with. If you can't find someone who can bring out the best in you and you can do same for that person, stay single. Relationship isn't by force. |
Hi, What are your current rates for sedan ovenbake and how long does it take to get the job done? Please try to be reasonable oo! |
This is sad. But who really is to blame? Is it due to sub-standard learning facilities most of these kind of students have to learn in? the quality of tutors in learning institutions? The overdependence on unrealistic timed- examinations(which isn't true test of knowledge) cos you only encourage students to rehearse for the day and forget afterwards? if this OPs post is what is obtainable in many NIgerian schools(as many others here say it is), Isn't it then time for NIgerian institutions to review our learning methods. "Show and Tell" is done in American schools right from elementary grade schools. This helps build the child's confidence and presentation skills. By the time they get into universities they already believe greatly in the work of their research. In UK, universities focus more on practical course works which enables students to focus more on their contribution to knowledge than merely passing a written timed-exam. I know many will say we don't have the tools to combat plagiarism if we seek other forms of course work assessment in Nigeria but I know for a fact "Turn-it-in" was introduced in Nigeria a few months before the last nationwide Universities and polytechnics strike began. After the strike was called off no one heard about "Turn it in" anymore. If you use Turn it in or similar anti plagiarism software in your school pls say so. This sort of educational decay in our country needs to stop |
Mekurexx:You made a valid point. But I think you left out those who actually have the entry requirements for Direct Masters in a Canadian university. We can't generalise everyone as only able to get in through PGD. It's only human that you seek admission where your qualifications are accepted. If your aim is just to get a Masters, UK offers you that in the quickest time possible. Nevertheless, I agree partly with the statement about Rankings as the Companies are likely to recruit along those lines (especially from Russell group universities). But I must add that UK companies are under law to prove that no home/eu student has the requirements they seek before they can employ internationals (As a Tier 2 sponsor). Therefore the premium is placed on your experience and what other qualifications you have that can outsmart the home/eu students. Is this the same case for those in Canada? I wouldn't know, not done much research on Canadian law neither do I encourage/discourage anyone who intends to study there. What I do know is assess your reasons for coming to the UK carefully before diving in. Note to the quoted author above: I understand you were referring to your current situation/priorities and not everyone. My post is rather more of clearing the air in a general sense for those with different priorities and situations to assess their positions properly, as some of the things you referred to might not apply to them. Note to others: I do not assume everyone needs UK certificates solely for the intention of staying in the UK indefinitely. Many friends of mine have studied in the UK and used their certificates to get jobs in other countries, while a few got jobs in the UK(after PSW was removed). Nonetheless, there are many other reasons (and I'm sure you all do) for achieving your respective certificates in the UK. So this post should not be misjudged as discouraging anyone from studying in the UK. Note to self: I have taken the time to make this lengthy so my comments are seen for what they truly are: Critical Analysis. Thanks for reading. |
You guys calling her foolish are either jealous or just poorly educated in morals. Why do so many Nigerians resort to insults at the slightest opportunity (especially on the internet) when they don't understand something. If God is going to judge the world, he wont exempt y'all. Civil studies need to be taught in our schools. Its appalling to see how low some Nigerian brains condescend, spewing out their mediocrity in public for the world to see and jeer at the entire populace. |
homesteady:I fear, but come to think of it, only the lady in blue pants appears to be truly tall (including Miss Tall-Nigeria of course), the others are using extraordinary heels. |
Wow they found her shoe size or are those custom made? |
I see this thread is slightly derailed into a home vs diaspora war. We have to admit that our beloved country Nigeria needs to be fixed in many ways. The current state of things in Nigeria has its advantages and disadvantages. There are not a lot of benefits for those who live in rural settlements. A massive desire to live better lives has seen the massive migration into cities were there is a slightest beam of hope/tendency to become rich. This is the reason you find one brother accomodating his relatives well over the capacity the property was intended for. This same tendency to live better lives is the reason many Nigerians travel abroad in search of greener fields. Live abroad or live in Nigeria. One thing is common among Nigerians, the search for a better life. So there should be no disparity between superiority or inferiority amongst Nigerians home or abroad. If your grandma in the rural settlement seeks advice from you in the City its not cos she feels inferior its cos she is doing what an elder should. Seek advice from all (to get all possible dimensions to the matter at hand) before making a decision. In the OP's case the decision is bound to affect those family members abroad and it is only right their opinion is sought before the decision is taken. |
^^ pinkshell thanks I couldnt agree more. The things the OP listed are the selfish characteristic traits found amongst many Africans when they plan to get married. I'm happy once again I ain't alone in my believe that marriage should be more about companionship than anything else. Sort of like an extension of yourself in another human being. Loved your response to the person above your last post as well. I was having trouble comprehending his/her point tbh. Cheers. |
afolag:To add to what you posted, Nigerian tenants are fund of heaping all their relatives in a house clearly not designed for such capacity. The Landlord in the OP's situation probably pays all the bills for the property. If the tenant paid bills (Water included) and had sufficient tenancy deposit to repair what ever damage they are capable of causing the property, I doubt the Landlord would even care how many people live there. |
This post is a tard bit loose ended and stereotypical. It depends on the country you refer to as abroad, Nigerians can't change their skin colour so it makes no sense for anyone to feel superior or inferior to those living in Nigeria. But I will tell you why most Nigerians wait for the man abroad to have his say on the matter. He lives in a differently structured society and therefore would likely have an out of the box approach. The African wise man doesn't make decisions till he has thought thoroughly about it and heard what every adviser has to say before passing judgement. In most places, no one would take the man in diaspora's say seriously if he wasn't contributing wisdom to the matter at hand. Let's not forget that Rwanda and Somalia are also abroad countries too. If the Nigerian thinks his brother in those countries feels superior to him, then there is definitely something wrong in his head. |
gospi:Your post exposed the truth about giving and truly loving for unselfish reasons. Life is too short to be spent within yourself alone. Life is God's beautiful gift. Just like the fire on a candle: It doesn't diminish when it light's up another rather they both glow. It's all about the will to give and love someone long enough for you to truly know them and care for them and most importantly to have that one truly know and care about you too, and by so doing, you both blossom. Someone once said, all else fades away when you get old and can't do much for yourself, but all that's left that still makes any sense to you is the love you share with the few who still remain by your side. Life must be lonely without someone to spend that life with. I felt a lot of people before now wouldn't see marriage the way I did, but your post is proof I'm not alone in my thoughts and hopefully others would learn from it. Thanks. Every Mrs has a Mr right for her, Its finding the right match that matters. Where there is a will, there is a way. |
OP why? After reading this post I now want to get Married! Not for all the reasons posted but for the fact that none of them seem to apply to me, therefore I should be ready to settle down. Just need to find the right Mrs. |
Teempakguy:dude quit it. you'll soon be classified as acting female. lol |
Have you ever stopped to wonder if women stopped giving birth to boys and only girls what would happen to the world? Would they miss men? Would they love each other better? |
Interesting points there gospi. I think this happens more in Nigeria. In other parts of the world they avoid marriage cos when people aren't getting what they want they file for divorce and easily get it. Additionally, like you mentioned, they like the spectator event, most marriages and even religious services are done quietly in the western world especially Europe, so the urge to marry for the ceremony is heightened in Nigeria cos of the extravagant ceremonies. |
justwise:I have stated what was needful, a critical examination of the state of things, My first assertion was ''I'm not quite sure why anyone would be so diehard bent on residing here in the UK permanently with how the immigration policies have developed overtime'' which was in line with what GeneralShepherd's post was about. How this turned out to be an alarmists statement soliciting panic and anxiety is oblivious to me. Those who have comprehensive minds understand my post. I'm not sorry you don't Justwise, you haven't proven how my post has been alarmist in any way and what anticipation of danger it could inspire. Therefore, I would dismiss your statement as ignorance. |
justwise:Point 1: I am well aware of the changes in tuition charged for Home students. If you focus on my sentences you would see that I stated ''has been used'' and not ''is being'' which shows I was referring to the past. And you are wrong about 5yrs ago, most universities only began implementing btw £6000-£9000 tuition charge for home students from 2012 so its fairly recent and at about the same time as PSW was eliminated. It was only necessary that they make Home students pay more for their immigration decisions. Point 2. Where in this statement does removal of benefits for home students not connect with the immigration point I've been making? It's either you do not know what an alarmist is or you are admitting to be one yourself. I just bumped into an article online now, http://www.theguardian.com/education/2015/apr/23/are-international-students-getting-a-raw-deal . maybe you would call them alarmists too, but the fact is you are backing up the wrong tree with a baseless argument that wasn't warranted in the first place. Critical reasoning is a characteristic trait that is termed Alarmist by those who don't understand its basic function. I expect better from you Justwise, but yet again I might be wrong as you so strongly want to believe. |
justwise:It's easy to condemn others without actually taking the pain to read their statements carefully. You haven't stated what makes me an alarmist. All I did was state the reasons immigration is becoming a key feature in UK policy, and the plan to pull out of the EU is one of them. Contributions aren't only monetary but economical, apart from the fact that the fees of one average international student has been used to sponsor 3 home students in universities, majority of the Nhs workers are international, many aspects of the economy are boosted through immigrants investments, if they weren't benefiting from internationals in any way they wouldn't have even let immigration begin . So I don't understand where the bolded part of your argument stems from. Justwise do your research, you're beginning to lose focus. |
GeneralShepherd:Lol, tell them GeneralShepherd? TBH, I'm not quite sure if/why anyone wants to live here permanently. UK's facing one of the toughest times in history. A good percentage of the young citizenry prefer to hang out at local pubs than their forefathers who sought to conquer the world. They blamed the misfortunes of events on the non-eu international immigrants who didn't receive any benefits and eliminated many opportunities for them to find UK an attractive destination. However, the 'benefits' seeking EU immigration was allowed to continue unabated, This saw a dramatic influx of settlers from all over the EU demanding benefits in the UK. Now a referendum is currently sought by the UK to pull out from this same EU. The question is, what would be left of the UK when all these internationals leave? Would the benefits for citizens continue? Would the present crop of partying generation brits be willing to work as hard as the migrants did without extra benefits?.. Food for thought#. |
jamela: God has done it for me o, so happy!Congratulations and welcome to the Uk. |
DisGuy: very soon y'all will be looking outside lecture halls wandering if its really 4pm or 12midnight!And then your alarm wakes you up one morning and you're glad to shut it down cos you get an extra hour of sleep, did someone say wind your clocks backwards aint cool? |
... Interesting exchange of conversations and ideas here!.It has been really helpful. I think the previous conversations between those 2 guys was interesting. Since I joined this thread, I have received realist information and also Alarmist informations. The guy that earlier pointed out to me that I should drop my UK admission and go to Canada made an alarmist comment. Most people that cant get into Canada for Masters do so through PGD(Post graduate diploma). And most do so because they are on second class lower divison. Even the 2:1 and First class folks dont get in easily, but some do!. I think people having drumming Canada as a land of goodies(no doubt), but in reality, it is tough. I have two friends that are in Canada presently, one finished with a 2:2 from a private uni, the other I think 3rd class from a private uni too. Their PGD program ends this month, one of them applied to 5 schools for masters for pharmacology, 4 rejected him, his hopes are hanging on one,if it doesn't work out, he has to come back to Naija as visa will expire, the other one also applied but got rejected, still hoping on one or two. For the UK, my only problem is the exchange rate, all this immigration and job palava is everywhere. The only thing im worried now is the ranking for the schools. The babe that complained about Robert Gordon dropping some places, I looked at the school ranking, I looked at the school I got admission into, I started having low self esteem. Tbh. I still strongly recommend going to the UK to do masters is better than going to Canada and passing through to do PGD, you spend all that money and time and struggle to get a job, and then cant even get in for Masters. I called that wasted investment. My folks doing PGD told me that most international students (indians) in Canada looking to get a good job and stay back all have masters + job experience (from UK or abroad), its only the Nigerian students that have only First degree. That makes them(indians) more competitive and better placed to be picked for good jobs, not carrying a 2:2 or 3rd class Bsc and then you get an Ontario graduate Certificate/diploma and think you can pull off a good job? I dont think so. and In summary, I have a few questions to ask and points to make:
. Wat part of d post made u change ur mind? And ar u d right Mr?
