Mention: During the DANA crash, it was observed that some victims sent last minute SMS and made last minute calls to their loved ones and they were inside an airplane! Thanks for pointing that out to the op. As a matter of fact. That is the only opportunity one has to tell their loved ones their final goodbyes. Even if you are in the wilderness, if such device makes it out unscatthed in the wreckage. It has a story to tell even if it is just a video msg on your memory card |
Stelvin101: Your dominant hand goes on the back of your head. Protect that hand by placing the other hand over it. Do not interlock fingers. The goal is to ensure that the bones in the stronger hand aren't broken so you can eventually unbuckle the seatbelt.Let's say the person unlocks the seat belt. How does he/she swim with one hand? Bottomline: Update your facebook status and turn on locations so the world knows where it all ended. |
KazNaija: The statement was printed on 28th of August to meet appointment on 29th at Ikeja. Ikeja said I didn't choose Tier 4 so i went to TP VI on 1st September. The full amount was in account on 4th of September. The ECO looked at statement date of 28th and picked amount there on the 1st of August. I thought they would count from date of application (1st sept).I guess what u meant was 4th August (bolded section above). You can not reuse the CAS, refer to the attached photo and link (I just bumped into this online now, the same principle applies for most schools in the Uk). https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/international/welcome/cas-application/faqs You have to request a new CAS and use it for another visa application. This time ensure the money has clocked at least '29' days to be sure and your closing balance on print out is still within a calendar month of application date.
|
KazNaija: Going through now I see the error was mine. They calculated to 28 days from statement printing and then used conversion of date of submissionUnfortunately you can not use your CAS for more than one visa application. You would have to contact your school to request a new CAS. I'm still at a loss as to how this refusal was your fault (the bolded part). Did u withdraw the 5million before the closing balance date on your statement? Or was the 5million not enough to cover course fees + maintenance when converted on date of application? |
unistudent1: Inner LondonThen you should check the likely exchange rates of the date of your application(when visa fee is paid) and if your balance is still well over the limit. You do not need to show funds for accomodation unless it is a requirement included in your cas(very unlikely). However, if you already completed payment for your accomodation prior to completion of your 28 days, you need to show that the minimum balance reflected on that statement is still sufficient and only £1020 less of maintenance funds would be acceptable irrespective of how much ''more'' than £1020 you paid towards the actual accomodation(and you must include evidence of payment for such accomodation if this is the case). 3Million looks okay for now (in your case), but no one knows how much the exchange rates would be when u apply. So be sure to check before you submit. |
unistudent1: I still have 5000 left to pay for my school accommodation. My tuition is paid in full. Is a bank statement of 3M enough?Where is your school located? |
KazNaija: They clocked 28 days. 3 statements. All gtb. This is rare. How much was your required funds: school fees + Maintenance dues left to pay on your visa application? Did you check the Oanda rates of the day you paid for your online application to see if the sums of all accounts actually match up with required funds to show 'by borough' when converted to GBP? Did you provide the 28 days statements of all 3 statements starting and closing on the same dates? Were these closing dates within one calendar month of your actual application? Did your 5Million account at any point drop during these 28 days count? And what type of account was the 5million in? If you still aren't at fault frm the above, Can you post the actual statement of refusal here so that we see what it is the ECO wasn't convinced about? |
jamela: Could anyone pls inform me on the best way to transport my tv to the uk? Is it best to use a courier or just tag along with it to the airport and book extra luggage? If I use the second option, do I have to worry abt duty fees at the airport and I hope tv license ppl would not try tracking me to my house as I'm yet to get accomodation and don't want to be asked to provide one at POE.I guess this is what you are referring to? http://flynaija.org/can-i-travel-with-a-tv-set/ |
akpan123: TENSOR 77. Have a question for you. How can we make nigeria better.Good question. I honestly don't understand why some people just hate on Nigerians that are trying to find a better life in diaspora. Nigeria has so much prospects, the weather is great against depression, we have the population to build the nation a hundred fold into a mega super world power. Our problem is its seemingly impossible for the average civilian Nigerian to make the country better if the government policies and enforcement arms of governance are not doing much in support of the change. Every Nigerian who has left the country and returned would agree that Nigeria is in a pretty sorry state and really needs the sort of transformation that only government can provide. If any one is in doubt, try reporting a man who u see dropping a satchet of water in public to a nearby police officer and tell me what is likely to be the response of the officer. How do u then apprehend the suspect yourself when the ones to purnish him don't want to. You'lld even be lucky if you aren't charged with breaking the law for taking laws into your hands I really hope people like Tensor77 work in government enforcement to change the nation for better, otherwise he should accept the truth about what has become of our dear country and why its necessary for people (who have no authority of influencing change) to seek better pastures elsewhere. |
Allenbaba: Guys, please, how would I get to the Vfs Ikeja office from Computer Village?Public transport? If you looking to go in cheap, I'll suggest you get a tricycle/keke going to oregun (should be somewhere btw N70-100). Tell d driver you'll be going to Billingsway. He'll drop you off at a street where you can either get another keke to billingsway(@N50) or walk down to the vfs office on the other end of that street. Dunno how much it costs now cos I'm far away, bt should be in that range. If you looking to avoid the stress, charter a cab straight to Vfs office Billingsway. Good luck. |
muhddeen3: Thank you so much. I ran out of hope and had to reschedule for Tuesday 2pm just incase I'll have to retake the test. And again I have another problem. My minimum balance went below 7300GBP (my maintenance fee) by 15000 NGN but I printed a statement of 6months and ive had heavy transactions on it. Presently my balance is more than thrice the required minimum. I hope this reason won't make them reject my application. The bolded section above is meant to be 7380GBP if you are going to be studying outside the London borough. However, if you have held the total money (£7380) for at least the last 2months, then we can do some calculations. Read carefully: The deduction below minimum in that 6 months period depends on what date it occurred. If the date you fell below the minimum was prior to the last 28consecutive days (not working days) before your closing balance, there won't be a problem. But if the date you fell below the minimum was during the last 28consecutive days before your closing balance, then you might need to check if you can print another statement with closing balance ending before the date it fell below the minimum (Note: You can only do this if you still have up to a calendar month between that new closing balance date and your application date) Alternatively, you can do as xkobans suggested, pay for accomodation and get CAS updated so you have 1020 pounds less to worry about. Disclaimer: the recommendation above is high risk. You should only attempt as a last resort, you can be called radomnly to present a new statement during your application if the ECO has reason to think otherwise about your access to funds, and that is why we urge everyone to keep their accounts full and don't let it drop below the minimum till they receive visa. |
Ochukoccna, silly you You know I was refering to the 'electronics' part of that sentence, *brackets*. Unless of course you studied English language at the Pounduni you established? ![]() |
esosa4real: Hey guys, am a freshly grad doctor visiting uk on wedsday for a medical conference (not a student). I would be staying for 2weeks, however have some questions that I know only Ona, the Omo naija uk based students fit answer.A warm welcome to Uk. 1. For transit between Manchester and Norwich, u could ask your cousin for first hand tips, depends on your budget. There is of course, Mega Bus(unreasonably inexpensive) u'lld have to book in advance though. But I'lld say a Train's gonna give u a better feel for a first timer. Although that usually means you'lld sometimes have to network trains, so keep an eye on the sliding led display and the 'next-stop' voice prompt to know what stop u'lld be getting off at. 2. If you're looking to spend a short time in the Uk, don't get a contract line. Lebara or Lyca mobile are effective for pay as you go rates especially if u plan to call folks back home. 3. Manchester is a mega city with a visible presence. Be sure to visit Trafford Center Mall when u're done with Old Trafford Manchester Utd Museum Tour. Loads of cool stuff to see and buy for your folks back home. Picadilly Center Mall as well (Them Prices tho??). Well you'lld be spoiled for choice, so check Travelmate for places to visit. If you find the time, a couple of hours should get you to London via train where u'lld get some eye experience. 4. Did someone say Poundshop already? Ok dunno much about where to get cheap clothes and electronics though(Argos perhaps). Almost everything we buy is online. It gets delivered straight to your doorsteps. 5. Search Cash Converters online and find out if they have a branch in your city. (Norwich or Manchester). 6. .......No idea..... 7. Well, you've booked one already. |
KingRuckus: Hello Everyone. For Tier4 Visas and for applicants over 18 (Adult), having money in your own name strengthens your application. The source of the funds is not necessary as long as it has been held for 28 consecutive days on a valid statement not older than one calendar month b4 your application. What is necessary is that your funds are enough and you must ensure that this money is still available to you for your use in the uk. |
heemran: Hi house,You should have contacted Waec to let them know abt the incidence when they denied you the first time. Its quite unlikely for ECOs to dismiss and confiscate verifiable documents as fake, unless Waec had no record of your data when they(ECO) contacted them(Waec). |
Ganiyat95: Hello everybody, i want to apply for a tier4 uk visa application and these are the list of documents i have 4.personal bank statement(showing funds available from 20/06/2014 to 29/08/2014)It's adviced you print just 28days but it doesn't matter how much longer than 28days the statement is for, as long as it covers the 28 day period and your balance never fell below the amount required. Back when I made my Tier 4 application, I printed 6 months statement and I wasnt refused. Ganiyat95: If i print from the date you said, there would be no reasonable transaction showed. i paid 2,026,800 on 24/06/2014, 72,000 on 26/06/2014, 1,000 and 1,500 was paid on 27/08/2014. should i still use the one i printed out? i'm really eager to know the right thing, cos i have been refused once. ThanksWhat you need to do is check the minimum amount your account recorded through the last 28 days before your closing balance. You won't be penalised for printing more than 28 days. What you must ensure is that the minimum your account recorded within those last consecutive 28 days before closing balance would be enough/above the required funds you have to show (for any tuition fees left+maintenance funds when converted using Oanda.com on the 'date of your application') and ensure that the date of the closing balance is not up to 31 days old when u make your visa application. The Visa officials would use the rates on the 'date of application' and apply it back through the last 28 days of your statement to ascertain whether your available funds meet the requirement. Its a tricky one, so people who might be affected by significant changes in exchange rates are usually advised to print the statement and do the Oanda conversion on the same proposed 'day of the application' to see if the exchange rates match up in their favour before applying. However, to avoid this skepticism, make sure u have more than enough funds held through the 28days to cover any exchange rate flunctuations. |
justwise: Its not a good idea to make deposit for a room you haven't seen, no matter who you are dealing with. You can use gumtree, roomshare, roomate...to search then make an appoitment for viewing before making deposit paying for it.I do not in anyway condone paying money to anyone prior to viewing properties. I only stated options for those who might want to use the internet to view houses while still in Nigeria. Pending when they eventually arrive the Uk to view it physically and make a decision. It all depends on personal choice. I personally prefer to deal with the landlord(and I'm sure he is) or a certified agency than anyone who is just claiming to have an available house, drug dealers could get on gumtree and the likes 'needing a housemate'and you'll end up having junkies in the next room cos they are the landlord n housemates too. So every option has its merits and dangers. Like I stated, its all personal choice, I just gave an additional option not asking them to ignore the others already given. |
justwise: Agency charge will increase the total rent priceTrue that, but most viewings are organised by agents anyways, the To Let signboards are put up by agents. Is there any other way for someone who isn't already in the Uk to get off campus housing online without going through one of them? I just think its safer than paying money to some complete stranger who puts pictures of his aunts bedroom on the internet. Zoopla provides a list of agency lettings so people could choose to visit the actual agents or not. I don't think they(Zoopla) are agents themselves |
I think I know a good site that can sort you out on proper accomodation, zoopla.co.uk. I think they showcase listings from different agencies. N.B: Its best to find accomodation close to your school, as you would be spending most of your time there. So the maps function and your uni post codes should come in handy. |
cookies: My people, please who's heading to university of wolverhampton? I'm meant to arrive in 3 weeks time & need to make enquiries especially concerning accommodation.I actually know the Nigerian Students Society President of your university. I think they have a facebook page if you search for it, but they are currently on holidays. If you need to contact him directly, I guess you can find his details on the facebook page or you send me a direct msg so that I reply with his contact details. Please my recommendation is to contact him for accomodation advice only by region as he has been there long enough to understand the terrain from a Nigerian perspective. Not to send him any money as he is not an accomodation agent. Best of Luck. |
justwise: Oh ok! good to see you here again. Thanks, likewise. |
justwise: You found your nl psw today? lol, its almost a year since you left, how are you getting on?I guess nl decided to get me a psw pass, if i'm lucky could get a nl ilr too.lol. Did some posting on other threads before the nl meltdown wiped them off. So i have been on for a bit, though i must confess not too frequent. Finished with d course i was doing already, so a bit of travelling here n there kept me off par. Its a nice thing u're doing here, I'm sure alot of pple r encouraged by it. |
Hey been a while, glad to see the thread's still active. Justwise remind me to nominate you for travel section Nairaland awards if/whenever they decide to have one. Can see a lot of positive people helping out with advice. Thought i'd chip in a few. zerray: pls i need names of good schools for msc in uk, an inexpensive city especially in the area of accommodationFor those who're still trying to find schools in the uk and need to get an idea of what the students from there think of their unis, visit whatuni.com, you get individual rating polls from lecture quality/course ratings to eye candy, its also cool for accomodation advice too, especially when it comes to areas that boost student experience and creepy landlords to avoid. Ps: u might not get a professional list of best schools or jobs after grad there, but for social life and school comparison from actual student ratings, it would really help u be on track. |

FutureDon: No, I've got no godfather to fix me up in a parastatal and my father is not Mike Adenuga. I club whenever I feel like and it has not in anyway hindered me from topping my class. With all sense of sincerity, I'm not trying to sound bombastic. However, I thought your assertion is baseless.I never implied there was anything wrong with clubbing occasionally, if you read my initial statement properly you would comprehend the intended advice. I was talking about excessive fun done to the detriment of one's ability to make a meaningful outcome of their studies, and its not just clubbing it includes the other fun things I stated earlier. I do them as well, but I don't make it the base of my existence. As for the club case, I only gave an example with what I saw in class. Now to the present, coming top of the class does not in anyway guarantee expertise. I finished tops but there were still some others that might have known better than me regardless, but just didn't have confidence in themselves or too busy partying to notice their worth. My position on this matter does not end in the grades, its more, my proposition is excellence, being exceptional in the field, trust me there are loads of opportunities for such people. The problem is people who get carried away and realise that those who took their time to be exceptional will still have the opportunity to do those same things even more. In summary, no rush..there is time for everything. |
CAvenchy gud advice for those who know what they want in life.Well if u know u don't a godfather to fix u up ith one parastal or business outfit then u won't be clubbing. I believe those who do that already hv jobs waiting for them somewhere thts y they so callous.
While it is true some people have jobs waiting for them, it is also true that jobs: just like marriage and every other acheivement...is not the end but a beginning..how would one feel when given a job and then have no impact in the work place? What is wrong with using what you've learnt to turn the place you work around even if you got in by connection? I understand the Nigerian 'anything goes situation' in many workplaces but then again this is the same reason why the country has not improved because most of the people fixed in by godfathers dont know jack and dont bother about it. Very few people can party and still make the grades, but most times it takes very hard work for such to happen. Well, those that have godfathers can continue going to the clubs, the godfathers wont be there to explain to the children of their subjects what their parents were doing when others were getting the grades. That is something they'll have to do themselves. |
ChriGo: Nna bros dis 1 u dy call anybody lads na wa oo!!....u no check ma profile ni......we have dudes here with 4 - 5 kids ooo.....will b celebrating my 81th birthdayForgive my English, that's how we address males here in the uk and its got nothing to do with age, unfortunately I'm not familiar with the terms you use in Canada. Advice to the new lads coming into the uk to study in this academic year, Uk is full of clubs, shopping malls, skydiving, ocean diving, carnivals, paintballing, bowling, ice skating rinks and yes pretty girls/hot dudes. Loads of fun stuff to see, do and enjoy. But do not forget that you have spent a lot of money coming here to excel at your studies, trust me there is no greater joy than knowing you've got very exceptional performance and your knowledge can be useful to any organization with loads of cash in return. You don't start to feel the pinch of not being serious with getting the best out of the school process, till you find out those who have, are extremely happy and will still have time to enjoy those fancy things after their studies, that you couldn't wait to explore to the detriment of your own success. Its not enough to just get a masters degree from uk, you know where you come from, your performance matters a lot, the greatest thing is..The world will be your oyster if you are the exceptional one. Take a clue from this and make a big impact on your life from this opportunity. Trust me there are many advantages of doing so. I know people who spent all their nights in clubs during our first semester and slept in class the morning after, today they have seen how successful the hardworkers have become and they say 'had they known'. An opportunity once lost can never be regained with the same vigour. Be wise mates and strive for nothing less than excellence. These are the things no one tells you but most people figure it out when its too late, so here you have it...what you do with it is entirely up to you. Cheers. |
Hello Nairalanders, Is this thread only for intending/extant students, or for visit and work visas too? I've got just little idea abt how the Canadian visa system works for non study applications. Been helping out on the Uk pbs thread and would love to do same here if I'm told the details, I learn very fast so a link or two to direct informative sites about how the canadian visa system works will be appreciated. So that I can help other folks on here. |
NaijaIhail: Please JUSTWISE and others....am not applying for my student visa yet but soon [by God grace], I will be in London for a short course [with student visitor visa].... So I will be glad to ask a question that has been bothering me before I finally move to London as a "student visa holder".With your student visa, you are free to travel to any part of the world that your passport/visas permit you to..you just have to take a permission letter from your department (or appropriate office in your school) so that they are aware you won't be available for attendance records within the period u would be out of the uk. Hope this helps. Cheers |
honey86: Cavenchy in the building!!!!!!!!!lol honey nice to see you here too. ![]() |
