oyatz:He needs to know that a physician is expected to consult standard resources when he/she isn't sure of certain things. That is called being responsible. And I wonder if he himself does not resort to refreshing memories and researches whenever he has a court case to take on. Better to peruse resource for a brief moment than fall prey to lawyers always ogling for patients they can use against physicians to sue for damages. They abound in the UK and US. And he even made this statement most assertively: IMAGINE WHY A PATHOLOGIST IS TRYING TO RUN A TEST HE HAS NO KNOWLEDGE ABOUTA barrister indeed. |
Pharyn:Mail noted. To prevent fisching, you may edit/remove your email address now sir. |
temmyt20:Seriously, if a caller asks you out for a date, I think you shouldn't feel bad, especially if it isn't a prank call. You just may meet your soulmate thru the most unconventional means. The popular notion is that female CSRs anywhere (like you see across the counter) are daintily dressed, pretty ladies that sway you with their lingo. I think guys fantasize being with such girls. Now you don't wanna puncture such notions, do you? |
pearlblunt20:It's not right that you took that offer knowing fully well that he felt such kind gesture would endear him to you. It's a natural disposition and you could have been more humane to politely refuse the mattress or at best let him know that you appreciate it and you know what he wants but you will prefer that you both remained just friends. Doing that will make him respect you the more. You can then let him make an informed choice whether to still go ahead with giving you the mattress or any other kind gestures for that matter. He is apparently the kinda guy who may not have the luxury of sweet talk to express his desires to you straightaway. You knew that but you still took advantage of him anyways. It's not totally right. |
haryomikun:GTB no longer 299 but now 315. Haven't confirmed though. I have been on stanbic for some time now at 299 per dollar. |
Infinitikoncept:Once before I got mad with the banks for "competing" with ab0kis in their forex transactions. One of the bank guys said they may have little choice about that the reason being that Nigerians always explore every available loopholes. If they peg their dollar transaction to a very large margin to that of black market, Nigerians will resort to round-tripping dollars obtained from bank to make maximum profit in black market. Of course it's still a win situation for the banks and a loss to Nigerians like us. |
lazinny:How do I decipher my IBTC ledger balance please? |
meetmal03:Hehehehe. See this man o. Okay here is how it goes. I bought some goods using GTB MasterCard about 2 months ago at a rate of 299 NGN to the dollar. If I am to be refunded now assuming the deal went bad, my refund thru GTB will be in the prevailing dollar exchange rate i.e 315 NGN to the dollar. That means i gained 16 NGN per dollar. If that happened in your case (of course i won't be able to tell what bank you used), would you be generous enough to give me the profit too? Abegi! |

Okay. Here is what I think. The lady is obviously as wicked as Jezebel. She doesn't mind destroying your life. Perhaps you have along the way done something(s) that hurt her deeply, nonetheless I suppose any humane individual who believes in the existence of nature's retribution will not demand hid/her own pound of flesh. That being said, you need to be wise and careful on this. You may decide to refuse such blackmail, on the flip side, you made decide to just be the gentleman and give her the cash; after all God don pick una call and things are getting brighter for you. If you decide to part with the cash, here's what to do. Play smart. Get a lawyer. If you can't afford one, you can give her the impression that you've contacted one. Tell her to bring along her own lawyer. I'm sure she will be taken aback by your seemingly smart move (that's if she's not visited Nairaland to read thru the thread). She may not be able to afford a lawyer. Tell her she needs to come with a real lawyer because not doing so may get the impostor and herself on the wrong side of the law as your own lawyer will see to that. If she admits that she can't afford a lawyer, tell her no problem, as long as she is willing to sign a sworn affidavit in a court if law and before a commissioner of oath that a transaction to the effect of so so so and so amount in respect of so so and so situation took place between the two of you at so so and so place and at so so and so time. Remember to put in the affidavit that this amount has been agreed to cover all forms of monetary agreement between you both and you have no other pending monetary issues between you both. Give her a copy and have your own copy. If she doesn't know, tell her the implications of breaking such legal agreement in the future involves risk of jail term. Now I need to drum this into your ear: You are upcoming and God willing, cross the Rubicon and attain the zenith in your career. Do not let that get into your head and start living a careless and carefree life. Be careful of situations that may lead to baby mamas. You can be a star and still live a purposeful, meaningful and enviable life to the young generations. If you have an insatiable lust for s3x and you need to satisfy that, get yourself engaged to a responsible lady who you are sure believes in your dreams and ready to fight thru thick and thin to help you achieve it. Not those that hunt for ready made men. Lastly and seriously, is this babe from the east? (pardon me if some people assume this as going tribalistic, for it is not). I dated a girl from the east and meant business until she started exhibiting similar traits. Two friends and about three acquaintances had similar fate in the hands of babes from there. I can't shake off that nagging feeling she is from there. I need you to tell me I'm wrong. #To the prowling ethnic vultures, I ain't one of your carcass. |
Thatitan234:Sorry. But the OP has plausible deniability that he did not edit his post as an afterthought. The way to catch him red-handed next time is to quote his post before you make your comment. Only the mods, if a conniving one, has the ability to hide a quoted post. |
meetmal03:So what happens in cases of deals gone bad and I am awarded with a refund following a trade dispute? How do I get back my cash from you? |
lazinny:For 7 days now, I have been expecting a refund from sellers online. Usually in such instances of reversal, the IBTC account gets credited within 5 days. And in case of the card, have had issues once or twice using it online. Once before, it was rejected by the ATM the moment I typed in the amount to be withdrawn. A retry was successful. All these happened after the upgrade. I hope my refunds will not be stuck. I will wait for the expiry of the 7-10 days duration for refund before I lash out at 'em. |

izzou:Na true talk jàre. There will always be a black sheep, a bastard son in every place. Something we call omo àlè. What matters though is how one handles the case of a "bastard child" who is about to drag the family's name in the mud. Does one indulge him by claiming "it's our son" or call a spade a spade and allows the law to take its course? The choice goes a long way to moulding outsiders' opinion about us. |
In Yvonne Chaka Chaka's voice: I'm burning up, I'm burning up My heart's on fire, I'm burning up |
Infinitikoncept:Apparently you don't know what the problem is. Nigeria as a country is running out of dollar reserves cos of dwindling petrodollar earnings (thanks to global crude oil glut and the recent NDA and the new whats-their-name militant group). No other established source of forex earning for the country. We are in this quagmire because we did not save enough to cushion this period of scarcity that followed a period of plenty. Saudi Arabia has spent close to 400 billion USD of her forex savings since this problem started. Venezuela's paltry savings is almost extinct. So pray tell, how else does the government source for dollar in the short term to supply the immense demands of which you are one? Pls note my emphasis on "short term". |
If their comeback is to strictly slap only the android platform on their devices, then I think I'll pass. |
ChetaNwaeze:Now that's stretching it too far. I will never believe that. |
Hmmmm. 85% of comments before mine are by females. D'you need to be told again that money is what makes these babes fall for even the most ugly dude in the whole universe. You get your cash cool, You get these kittens to drool. |
Treasure10:Please stop this. It is a very grave, erroneous and unforgivable assumption. In fact, it lacks any rational basis to assume male nurses as homos. No relationship, connection or predilections whatsoever between the two. Male nurses do their job as well and as good as their female counterpart. The male gender in the profession also does not increase any predilection for infidelity of any kind than it obtains in any other profession for that matter. |
pembisco:You are the one in error and guilty of stereotyping. Your mind is already primed in the direction of a complex and strata, especially now that it involves delineating between a doc and a nurse, that is why you jumped to your conclusion. In the context of his use of those two words: Class and wannabes, please read again and this time around, comprehend it with an open mind. Nursing profession can be seen to be a class in its own, every other claimants to that class will be seen as wannabes. "Class" as a word does not necessarily connote pride in every use, his included. |
justmenoni:If this vehicles are well maintained and need replacement after a duration of time, they will do well to get them auctioned off to Nigerians (without discrimination) at very commendable prices. |
yusuf2:Innoson is yet to consolidate his stand in the saloon/small cars ecosystem, I guess. I have seen pictures of one of his saloons; very lovely car it is. But I doubt it is being mass produced yet. I've been looking out for when it makes the roads. I will love to have one in my fleet. Annoying things 'bout Innoson though: No website! No hotline! No showrooms! No custocare agent! Who da heck does that?! |
royallord1: Haba. It's just the negativity you've conditioned your mind to perceive perhaps cos of the camp you are in. But believe me, what is in those pictures basically has "buy Nigeria, grow Nigeria" written all over it.IVM - Innoson vehicles and motors (Eastern Nigeria) Peugeot - PAN Peugeot Automobile Nigeria, Kaduna (Northern Nigeria). So what else D'you want dude? |
adegunwa4real: modelmike7: Both of una enter NL village square pick the gauntlet na. The mods will be there to ref the match. All these behind the screen punches no be am. |
modelmike7:Actually trekking short distances ain't a bad idea. I have inculcated that habit. Then secure a very solid sports bike with all the paraphernalia (helmets, knees and elbow pads etc) for longer distances. I seriously wish some DIYers and ingenious Nigerians could team up and convert the regular motorcycles to electric bikes. I will be the first to jump on that wagon. NB: Before somebody say "Po".. and another person say "verty", it's not so. No be mouth if i say I get a 2012 S-class, a state-of-the-art SUV and a fairly older SUV (2006 model) in my fleet. Those are gas guzzlers no doubt. I am just a regular guy with a good job, not a politician. So what would you have me do in the face of all these scarcity and recession? |
Babies who cry and nurse at night prevent the arrival of a sibling, a delay that gave the screamers an evolutionary edge, a scientist proposes. Babies cry at night to prevent siblings, scientist suggests When a baby cries at night, exhausted parents scramble to figure out why. He’s hungry. Wet. Cold. Lonely. But now, a Harvard scientist offers more sinister explanation: The baby who demands to be breastfed in the middle of the night is preventing his mom from getting pregnant again. This devious intention makes perfect sense, says evolutionary biologist David Haig, who describes his idea in . Another baby means having to share mom and dad, so babies are programmed to do all they can to thwart the meeting of sperm and egg, the theory goes. Since babies can’t force birth control pills on their mothers, they work with what they’ve got: Nighttime nursing liaisons keep women from other sorts of liaisons that might lead to another child. And beyond libido-killing interruptions and extreme fatigue, frequent night nursing also delays fertility in nursing women. Infant suckling can lead to hormone changes that put the kibosh on ovulation (though not reliably enough to be a fail-safe birth control method, as many gynecologists caution). Of course, babies don’t have the wherewithal to be interrupting their mothers’ fertility intentionally. It’s just that in our past, babies who cried to be nursed at night had a survival edge, Haig proposes. The timing of night crying seems particularly damning, Haig says. Breastfed babies seem to ramp up their nighttime demands around 6 months of age and then slowly improve — precisely the time when a baby would want to double down on its birth control efforts. Genetic disorders that are inherited from mothers or fathers provide even more evidence. Babies who get certain genes from their mothers sleep longer in the night, which is in the best interests of a woman who wants to get pregnant again. But babies who get the same genes from their fathers wake up more often, delaying ovulation in their mothers, Haig writes. That makes evolutionary sense: Because fathers have no guarantee that the next baby will also be his, they (men and their genes) are presumably not interested in ovulation starting again. Haig’s work builds on a similar proposal published in 1987, and if it’s right, it means that breast-fed babies who cry at night might be showing the ultimate sibling rivalry. These wakings could easily have benefits for the baby that trump the birth control for mom, McKenna writes: Frequent wakings prevent the baby from slipping into too deep a sleep, which can be dangerous. But if Haig is right, the little screamers are doing all they can to prevent another baby from coming along and ruining their good thing. That self-interest is in direct conflict with the mother’s evolutionary goal, which is to shove her genes into as many children as possible. These divergent goals, Haig says, are an overlooked part of child-parent relationships. “Mothers have evolved to maximize their numbers of surviving children, which is different from maximizing the survival of each individual child,” he says. There’s no way to go back and test whether night nursing actually helped babies survive in the early chapters of our evolutionary history. Today’s babies are growing up in a world that doesn’t look much like the one in which this trick could have been useful. “I think that it’s an adaptation for a world very different from the current world,” Haig says. Contraception, solid nutrition and good health care have probably removed modern babies’ drive to prevent another sibling. Although we’ll never know exactly why babies evolved to cry at night, Haig’s idea offers one interesting explanation. Whether he is right or not, there is another message lurking in this study, and it’s a message for modern parents: Babies who don’t breastfeed during the night and babies who take bottles don’t wake up as much during the night — and they don’t seem to be worse off for it, Haig says. That result implies that nursing throughout the night isn’t necessary. So moms shouldn’t beat themselves up if they don’t always heed the nighttime calls to breastfeed, Haig says. “There’s a tendency to think of infants as incredibly fragile beings, and if you do just one thing wrong, they’re ruined for life,” Haig says. “That to me doesn’t make any evolutionary sense. They should be fairly robust and handle all sorts of variation in sleeping arrangements and feeding arrangements.” He wraps up our interview with a sentiment that I think all parents embrace: “Do what feels right for yourself.” © Society for Science & the Public 2000 - 2016.
