14:Oh, wrong you are and you can't be further away from the truth. MTN leaves today, that's less saturation of the telecom market and ten more operators worldwide are waiting to fill in. Here is something: When GSM first started in Nigeria, most operators worldwide were skeptical of its success in Nigeria so they held back from investing. Only Econet wireless and MTN took the risk. Look at whether we are today. Nigeria telco market is touted as the fastest growing worldwide. No operator that knows her onions would wanna miss out on such sure deal not minding whatever atmosphere prevails, and business atmosphere in Nigeria ain't worse than what it wad when Econet wireless started. |
Ups01:Oh yeah, MTN ain't no crook? Is that Stockholm's? Two known MTN subscribers last week lost 700 naira and 500 naira from their account OVERNIGHT for doing nothing on their cell. Mind you they are both elderly people who use those basic Nokia phones, so no browsing and no SMS sef. Sad thing is that they have to wait for someone to help 'em call CustoCare as they don't know jack 'bout that. I sent those call credits to their devices, so i know what I'm talking 'bout. |
sevule:The CBN fined FirstBank and UBA 5% of the NNPC funds they illegally kept and refused to remit to the TSA against stern warning. I guess MTN 5 billion USD is 200% of the number of unregistered subscribers they still habour on their network. Other players (Glo, Airtel and Etisalat) have immediately done the needful and obeyed NCC rules. I guess MTN thinks it's like before when they have money to bribe and sway all decisions to their favour. They gambled wrongly this time. |
Mavor:My dear friend. MTN in connivance with NCC and some unscrupulous elements in the Nigerian politicians ran down our indigenous HITV and "approved" an illegal Terrestrial broadcast licence for GoTV cum DSTV to also drive the indigenous StarTimes out of the market. But those were possible only in the days of anything goes. Now it's business UNusual. You do the crime, you pay. Corporate crimes will no longer do unpunished or unchallenged. Even FirstBank and UBA are already licking their sore thumb now. |
rusher14:I care less if MTN dies today. One less player in telecommunication will not spell doom. The remaining three will suffice, step in the gap and yes, fall in line for fear of facing same fate. And you know what? That means the less saturation of that sector which will in turn bring in more operators willing to take the plunge and make money from the vast potential in the country telecommunication sector. And of course with a new sheriff in town, I don't see any new players coming to swindle is with lies in the manner of "sorry, per second billing isn't possible on our computer", or "sorry, data subscriptions cannot cost less than what they do now" |
cupidhero:Oh so you don't know. Well, I got news for you. MTN is DSTV which is GoTV which is Ecobank which is Jumia which is also ShopRite, all owned by South Africa and all unleashed on Nigerians to swindle us all in ways they can never try in their home country. |
imsuboi:Hehehehe. You have been greatly misLED by the LED indicator. |
Mariesio:GTB charged me 220NGN to the dollar three days ago. |
Mariesio:Do I need to be registered with Skye to use their debit card to enjoy this competitive rate? |
barnabas91:Aside from avoidance of heartaches, headaches and high blood pressure, are there any other significant reasons you use DHL rather than third party shippers? How fair are the prices compared? Trying to weigh my options here. |
biggie1:Jumia South African?! No wonder my spirit did not really align with 'em from day one . I have been registered with their platform since over a year ago and just thought of buying there for the first time last month and that was because they gave me a 2k free voucher for any item over 10k purchased. Not even impressed by the speed of delivery, though the item was okay.Kaymu I have used about three times and they aren't bad. But Konga has endeared 'emselves to me all along and my addiction is to Konga. Thank God it's Nigerian. I think I have to dump any idea of further patronage with Jumia or anything that has anything remote ti do with South Africa. Even I've stopped visits to shoprite. It's a personal feud since the days MTN started (per minute vs per second billing things) and I'm not sure I can forgive 'em so easily. |
UjSizzle:All those standalone camera apps common with windows 8.1 are gradually being pulled from the store. Everything is/will be included as features of the Camera app in Windows phone 10. |
UjSizzle: That is the peculiarity with windows phone. Switch it off, plug it into a charger and it switches on also. I have no reservations about that feature though, I don't see it as bad.The only situation where it may not immediately switch on if you plug into a charger is if the battery is seriously depleted. In such case, it gives you a charging signal and continues that way for couple minutes until the battery is charged enough to boot the device. |
talktimi:He needs to change the download settings of his "store" app. Open store and click on the "ellipses"(three dots). Clock on the settings and turn off "update only on WiFi". That should do it. |
beautifullll1: Ayanfe2074:www.track-chinapost.com |
Ayanfe2074:I've had like five items shown up as having arrived Nigeria but 3 months and still counting, I'm yet to get them at my usual pick-up place (nearest post office). While I have made complaints to the said post office, they said I can track the movement within Nigeria using NIPOST website, but I'm not ready for that hassles. I have already filed for full refund on Aliexpress and three of the sellers have already credited back my account, remaining two. So I will not be too optimistic about your parcel. Nigeria customs may have exercised their undue power to impound it, but better is the fact that it may have actually been delivered into the post office nearest to you but the postman does not have your phone number to alert you that you have a parcel. Visit the post office nearest to your delivery address to seek your parcel. |
Ayanfe2074:That means that the gods have gotten thru customs and then to China post which would get it across en route to Nigeria. If you head back to track in few days time you should get something like "en route Nigeria" as the response.

Idrismusty97:There are no significant differences in prices in my opinion. Remember that a particular seller may have his products on offer on all the platforms of Konga, Jumia and Kaymu. A 5k item on Jumia with 1k shipping fee may be put up by same seller as 4k5 with 1k5 shipping on Konga. I've used Jumia only once for the first time 2 weeks ago, not very impressed as goods got delayed beyond the promised date of delivery and I wasted time and fuel going to their office where I scheduled pick up. Konga I have used tens of times and i have had no reason to complain. By the way, who/which countries own these outlets (i.e Konga, Jumia, Kaymu). I wanna know if there's any of the three owned by South Africa. I've always avoided SA consortiums like a plague and justifiably so. |
kaeforum:Can you remind us what sectors of the economy are dependent on Nigerian banks again. And while you are at it, kindly mention 10 SMEs (you can include known ones on Nairaland) that have been able to access low interest loans from Nigerian banks. Heck. There isn't even any low interest loan in any Nigerian banks at the moment. 22% loan interest rate in Nigerian banks isn't SME friendly compared to 3% in China. That is why today you have thousands of manufacturers and companies in China which export to other countries including Nigeria. There is no way you can make an omelette without breaking an egg. An egg has to be broken thru for the new chick to emerge. Similar worries and cries rented thru the air during Soludo's bank merger and acquisition issue. The banks that were unable to meet the expected capital base had to be merged or acquired. This led to stronger financial base and customer fund protection (remember the defunct National bank and Societe Generale?). This may just be another litmus test to seperate the men from the boys and while there may be inevitable collateral damages at this stage, you can be sure that such will pale to insignificance with the economic stability it will bring. Employments will be created when these parasitizing "loan shack houses" start to do business and make money t way it should be done. |
Highziq:The availability of glance feature is usually tied to the Screen type of the phone. LCD displays are not perfect for glance feature cos of the burnout effect plus the fact that the pixels use more power and drains the battery. In OLEDs or LEDs however, black pixels are true blacks that are not lighted up when black. Only the bright pixels on OLED are actually consuming power at any point in time, hence it is perfect for glance feature. Having said all, it is not an absolute impossibility to have glance on LCD, but Nokia knows best the reason it chose not to have it enabled for the L920. I have the glance feature functioning perfectly on my L920. |
sambina:Three weeks ago, I subscribed to airtel 2gig for 2k. I deliberately monitored the data usage on my WiFi router cos of the news I hear about airtel cheating subscribers on data usage. At the end of 10 days, data was exhausted. I added the cumulative data usage and it was less than 1gig (download+upload). So I though, maybe data share (like mtn does) will be better. I bought airtel 1gig for 1k2 five days ago and today, it is exhausted. Cumulative according to the router is less than 500mb usage. Don't mention MTN cos we are sworn enemies and I have NEVER used that network till now. Besides, there is no MTN 3G where I am, just 2G. Why did I resort to airtel option? I normally do Glo 4.5gig for 2k5 which may last me 10 weeks with moderate usage on my phone. Sadly for 3 weeks now, Glo call and data services have been pathetic such that I have 2.5 gig of Glo data lying fallow and unusable. Could you be kind enough to let me in on this airtel data option you use? I assume it is not a tweak. |
Elxandre:Oh man, with the official announcement I just read that ut actually has the 32gig,64gig and 128gig variant and with un-f**king-believable micro SD slot in addition, supporting up to a jaw dropping 2terabytes of capacity. Ain't that crazy? And with the USB-C and Qualcomm fast charging with it, Qi wireless charging and a lovely Continuum support, it blows the mind. And another lovely announcement is the novel MSFT "Surface book" which, well, poops on the Macbook pro and Chrome book put together. |
Oluwadare:Yeah. It's a nice device. Have you heard of the L550 in the works? Though it has some nice innards, but I don't like that it will have less screen estate (4.7" ) than the 5" of the L540. In that case, I'll take the L640 over it even though the former is older. |
kallmemrB:Honestly I don't like the animation of that home screen "People" app on WP10. It looks nicer in flipping squares/tiles of the WP8/8.1 than the bouncing circles of WP10. I hope they still have plans to go that flipping tile way. |
Elxandre:When talking of offline maps, mapping countries isn't usually a very easy task to carry out, especially if it is to be newly mapped. Some towns or locations may be left out and even then those places that are newly mapped out are usually carried out with a lot of logistics including volunteers who offer information on their location. HERE maps, when it was still "Nokia maps" and "Ovi maps" have user feedback mechanisms where users can report errors noticed on the use of their offline maps, but in not sure if that is currently offered by HERE. These feedbacks helps them to perfect the user experience and like "Waze app" is able to help notify navigation providers of new POIs and locations which are verified and then included in future updates of their offline maps. Google maps also occasionally has some errors in perfect representation of locations which may be or not related to security purposes - I believe that the military will have their navigation maps near perfect. If I remember quite well, when iOS6 came out for the iPhones, there was a serious flaw reported on their maps where a functional bridge was actually marked as a "no access road" on their maps and people discovered several similar errors using that map. Navigon and Tom tom especially are one of the regularly used navigation solutions in the US. I presume they have occasional blips in their accuracy and precision too, just an assumption. |
Elxandre:
|
Elxandre:Now I understand what you mean. Here is the way it works: HERE maps has offline capabilities in which case you use pre-downloaded maps for navigation. This saves you data and also makes navigation possible in places and situations where you do not have online connection. These offline maps are regularly updated to include more countries, more locations and more POIs as they unfold in real life situations. The implication of this is that if walmart opens in Ikoyi by October 2015, you will not immediately get Walmart as POI on your HERE offline maps until a new updated map data with Walmart included is available for download. The same applies with new roads and service lanes. Ditto newly "dualized" carriageways. Online real time maps on the other hand is not hampered with these limitations. However it comes with it the availability of data and massive consumption of same. Online navigation is AVAILABLE on HERE maps. Offline is not available on Google maps, although that has been in the works for over a year now without much headway. HERE maps online is therefore at par with that of google maps or any other online navigation solutions. Try this out: When you are on a very fast network, launch your HERE maps and select Online navigation. Also select satellite view along with your options and set your destination or POI. You will be suprised to see all the cars packed around you, buildings and their roofing (even the colour of the roofs), forests, bushes and all other structures along your route will be displayed on your screen in all their glory and in real time. You may also select "Night view" to screen out some high resolution details so that only your route shows on your screen. |
damton:You haven't seen the movie "Next", have you? |
Elxandre:It appears you don't know how many companies and applications make use of Nokia HERE map solutions. Nokia may not be in the hardware business again but that company still exist strongly and has investments in several other networking solutions including but not limited to HERE maps. |
neyosea25:You don't have yo always connect to WiFi. Your device is also dual sim. So you can follow the steps above to solve the issue. |
queenet246:Your Lumia 535 is dual sim variant of Lumia. You first need to set the SIM you want to use for data connection - SIM 1 or SIM 2. This is done in your SETTINGS. Afterwards you need to enter the gprs settings of the selected sim. Switch on your data and you should get to browse. |
oyewolestephen:Most smartphones these days heat up. It's the processor working on such devices. The heat gets noticeably increased when the processor throttles up in situations as playing ram hogging games, browsing for long on 3.5G/4G and some other background apps. It's no reason to panic, really. And usually a protective mechanism is in place in the device to switch off automatically and restart if the heat gets too much. This is not always the case and I have only experienced that once on L920. By the way I don't normally experience that heating stuff on the L540 probably cos it has a phone cover. But on the L920, it's a regular thing maybe because it's my daily driver and it has no protective cover. |
