It depends on the kind of things you like for baby. Eg if you want Ankara cloths then you can find very beautiful ones here but if you want the foreign designs then you will get variety abroad.

Please help, is it advisable to buy baby things abroad or get all of dem here in Nigeria before leaving? Please dnt mind me, I am a ftm n a novice as well. Thank you

What you need is doctor (very important). That will determine hospital . the hospitals you mentioned have the highest mentions for Houston on this thread.
dserious:
Good Morning Everyone,

If you ask me I would say use the closed America embassy or consulate
Mamatukwas:
Hi Everyone. Pls with this new Notary development for absent DH's, can anyone share how they were able to handle for hubbys resident in England? Did they have to travel to the American embassy there or it's something that can be handled via post or email? Thank you.

To the best of my knowledge It is valid for 90 day except it has changed.
I stand to be corrected

ladeonas:
i didnot date the notary form DH signed. i know the form is valid for just 30days. i am also not going to downtown dallas, would just apply from the closest postal service to me , so they would deliver at my location.

thank God the sun is out today Dallas is @ 7C

This new year will bring us uncommon testimonies.
I had my princess on the 12th of Dec. 2017. I was so misinformed that I delayed the process in getting her international pas

I got there in time for the appointment and gave all the documents needed only to be told that the notary our DH sends to us is no longer valid as DH has to go to the US embassy in Nigeria to get the notary or be present at the US passport agency.

Apparently, this is a new rule that started yesterday 1 JAN., 2018. DH needs appointment date to get this notary and this is another delay for me as I need to get back to Nigeria soonest. Please, is this the same in your state. The social security is not needed when obtaining the international passport. Let's share this and talk about it.

TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by chibertha(f):
There is another form you can fill. All you have to do is convince them that you can't reach your hubby to go notarize the form.
see the attached DS-5525: Statement of Exigent/Special Family Circumstances - For Issuance of a Passport to a Minor Under Age 16

Congratulations on the arrival of your princess which by the way is my mother's birthday mate.
Please I will want you to keep the house updated on how you sorted the notary issue out because i dont see my DH having the time to go to Abuja or Lagos embassy from PH for notary.

God bless you.

Also anyone with info on flight promo please share

Caveat: This is the longest Nairaland post you will ever read in your life. grin

We had our interview in Lagos. Appointment time, 6:30am. Even though we qualified for dropbox, we decided to opt for an interview instead. This was due in part to our wanting to avoid a follow-up interview which many here seem to justifiably dread. Scheduling a face-to-face was an inconvenience but a minor one compared to what could be as there was still a chance we would be required to book appointment for a follow-up interview; an appointment which, according to Fyorgyn is not likely will be expedited. Worse still, if only one of us was issued a visa with the other getting the 221g. DW and I wanted to be together so we agreed to waive our rights to apply under the dropbox programme. It is worth noting that we had to initiate two emergency interview requests before it was finally granted; the first was thrown out with a message that, ours was not a real emergency.

On a day there was so much fuel scarcity, it amazed me to see a sea of people arrive early at the consulate. By 7:15am the VOs had taken their seats. We were directed to Window 2 right behind a young woman who was having a go at her 4th attempt for an F1 visa. I know this because she seemed to be familiar with the security ops outside; I heard parts of their conversations.

Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning. How are you?
Me: Very well, thank you. How are you?
VO: Very well. She smiled back. Can I have your passports?
Me: Sure. There you go, as I slid our passports through the opening at the foot of the window.
VO: What’s the reason for your planned visit?
Me: I am attending a company program in New York, while my wife here will be in Texas to have our baby. I will be joining her from New York a week after I arrive.
VO: Okay. What’s your budget for this trip?
Me: 20k. We have our budget estimates here if you would like to see.
VO: Sure. Can I see that?
I slipped the budget sheet, correspondence with doctor, as well as anticipated bill all neatly labelled towards to the VO. She wasted no time whatsoever in scanning through contents of the documents.
VO: What do you do?
Me: I am a Service Manager at blah blah blah
VO: For how long have you worked in this role
Me: 6 years
VO: What do you do for --? She repeats the name of my employer.
I give a 20s elevator pitch of my functions.
VO: Have you attended a similar training in the past?
Me: Many, including in San Francisco.
VO: How long did you stay during you last visit?
Me: 3 weeks. 1 week in SF, 2 with my family in Houston.
She continued clicking on her computer for a few more seconds.
VO: How about you, what do you do? This time, she was addressing the fine lady who stood with me.
DW: I’m a School Teacher at blah blah blah
VO: What do you teach?
DW: This, this, plus that.
VO: Are you using the same facility as before?
DW: Yes
VO: What’s your doctor’s name?
DW: Dr Fagbohun
VO: Is this your second child?
DW: Yes
VO: For how long were you there for your first?
DW: 7 weeks
VO: And where did you stay during this period?
DW: Intown Suites
VO: Do you have anyone in the US?
DW: No
VO: Did you get anything for payments you made from the hospital the last time
Me: We did. I knew she was referring to the itemized billing with other stuff so proceeded to handover the thick stack of breakdown of all the expenses incurred (15k in total), letters of non-indebtedness from hospital, another from doctor, bills from all the service providers, every single receipt for payments made, itemized billing.

The pile of paper was thicker than a Brazilian Butt Lift yet the VO meticulously read through each page. To be honest, I was glad she did as the letters included specific wordings like, “bill was settled in full”, “the state of Texas or any other government agency has not picked up any part of the bill”. The bills we received also included phrases like, “International family”, "discounts granted for self-pay, non-insured patients only", "discounts only applicable if payment is made by date X".

When she got to the section with the itemized billing, I reckon she could understand the reason for the discounts applied.

VO: What are your incomes?
We mentioned our monthly pay.
VO: Is your child travelling with you?
Me: They will be travelling together while I join them later.
VO: That’s fine
She resumed typing for another one minute or so

Funny how before you approach a window, you seem to hear what everyone else in the room is saying but can almost only hear your blood coursing through your veins as soon as it’s your turn with the VO.

VO: I am going to approve your visas. This paper here details how you can pick-up after you have received a message from us. She passed the white paper through the window after circling the DHL office we would be picking up our passports. She also returned our documents. Make sure you have this with you when travelling as you will be asked again at the point of entry. Congrats.
Us: Thank you.

I was impressed by the quality of work put in by the VO. I believe she had a memorable time with us too because when I said, “Have a beautiful day”, she flashed her beautiful white thirty-two, then replied, “You too”.

All the best to everyone still anticipating, congrats to everyone celebrating. Apologies if I wore you out with my lengthy post. grin

P.S. The lady who went before us, the one who was at her 4th attempt for an F1, she got her visa. I am happy she did. I learnt a new level of persistence from her story. We all should.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by chibertha(f): 2:14pm On Dec 05, 2017
In my opinoin You all qualify for drop box irrespective of not using the visa.
Teefinix3:
Good evening house,
Pls I ve an issue bothering on renewal of b1/b2 visa. My family did a renewal in 2016 which will expire in Feb 2018. Unfortunately, my 2 kids and hubby have not travel with d visa and will definately not be chanced to use it till it expires.
I was the only one that used the visa ds yr on my from giving birth in Canada. We now want to renew it as soon as it expires in Feb but my hubby is sceptical that we might be denied due to the fact that he and the kids wasted the previous one without using it.
He also heard from a source that the US consulate has started reducing visa issuance unlike how it was few mnths ago. My hubby was with me to Canada but didn't go to d US...
We really need to know if we stand a good chance of not being denied.

@oluwafunkenny,

The only reservation I have has to do with getting my bills ASAP.
They are on my list but still hunting for another as back up though I have not called for advice yet.
Would you be kind to give me a contact for the delivery section?
I have sent you a PM
Thank you
Kind regards.

oluwafunkenny:
@Chibertha and Suzist,
Hi, do you have any reservation for not wanting Harris Health System, l delivered at Ben Taub in 2015 via CS. l am due by God's Grace in mid 2018. When l wrote the head of delivery section and my personal obgyn, they all consented that l can give VBAC a trial (Though am yet to make up my mind).
The head of delivery section is associate Prof and my obgyn is also Prof from Baylor college of medicine, both female as you said. Also, because Ben Taub is a general hospital, they have obgyn and anaesthesiologist on shift at any point in time so even if your personal person is not around, you have a crowd to attend to you. On my delivery day, my obgyn was in Africa for a conference and l had a wonderful time with those around.

One point to note again, they bill antenatal separately and seems d staff like seeing people. The more you go the more you are billed.

Very educative thank you

Suzyt:
Hi

I have been in search of this as well. Some doctors are ok with it (usually female doctors) but the issue is the hospital they are affiliated with. There’s a rule they have to comply with which basically provides that once a woman who’s to do vbac goes into labour, both obgyn and anaesthesiologist must be at most 3 minutes away from the patient. That pretty much means leaving all your day’s to do to indefinitely hang around a woman who could easily labour for the next 18 hours. Even if your office is with the hospital premises, that wouldn’t do, you need to be very close. So this is the reason why many just say no they are not doing vbac. The alternative as I wasadvised is to try labouring a while at home. So if you are already 6cm plus when you get to triage, perhaps your doctor who is not anti vbac can “stall” and proceed to do the vbac. This has its risks too so it’s realky up to you. Once your water breaks you should not stay at home any longer due to the risk of infection. There is also the issue of placenta abruptions etc so it’s best weighing it well.

If yes to all of them. get a new passport then go to your portal and change passport information with new one.
Next go fill DS 160 form. I think there is a place for information of missing passport and go from there.
My thought though I stand to be corrected
