Our people like distort information. I was there at the lecture. He never said government does not owe you anything. Here are his words. I'm quoting directly from his speech:

"6. Quit whining- No one owes you anything
The Last lesson I want to talk about is the debilitating entitlement mentality that is commonplace among young people today. The earlier we realize no one owes us anything the better for us, and the more prepared we would be to face life's challenges. Don't think you are entitled to a job just because of your parents influence or what they have. Don't think things would be all rosy because you graduated from UNILAG with good grades. Be prepared for surprises and disappointments because life is bound to hand you a couple. The only guarantees you have in life is what you do for yourself with the grace God has bestowed on us all.

You have to be prepared to bend backwards and do what you might consider to be beneath you, because of the bigger picture. When you consider my resume today, you might see the prestigious organizations I have been privileged to work with. What you need to know however is that as a UNILAG graduate and a postgraduate student in the United Kingdom, I have also driven taxis and worked as a security guard, amongst several other menial jobs I did in the past to survive".

What is bad about this statement. It is a convocation lecture and he was giving advice to graduating students. I'm not his fan nor APC supporter . It was an intellectual discourse. He discussed 6 lessons that life has taught him.
1. Knowledge is Power
2. Discipline - Master yourself
3. Adaptability - Be flexible and Dynamic
4. Truly live and follow your passion
5.Seize the moment- and Just Do it!
6. Quit Whining - No One owes you Anything

The press being sensational made the last point a headline

Congrats to the girls.

Readings some comments on this thread makes me feel this generation is worse than the generation of vipers that Jesus referred to in the scriptures.

Focus on her strengths and dwell less on her weakness. DIVORCE IS NOT AN OPTION.SAY NO TO DIVORCE!!!!!!!

At least she is not involved in immorality. You will end up spending more if you divorce her and the new wife will not accept your kids. She will give birth to at least 2 kids, giving you a total of 6 kids.
On her dressing you can buy her the clothes of your choice.

It's unfortunate. I suggest JAMB result should 60% while post UTME should be re-introduced but it should be 40%. The candidates should not be made to pay for post UTME exam. The fees should be built into the fees for JAMB exam. JAMB should have a way of sending the money to the universities.

Only actress and those in entertainment industry on the list? What a wasted generation.

There are quite a huge number of women in industry, business, top professionals, academics ageing gracefully NOT only actresses.

Exposing her pregnancy to mmuo ojo.

Whose responsibility is it to build infrastructure? Government or World bank. She should not play to the gallery.

It's quite unfortunate the academic standards are not exactly the same as pointed out by earlier posts. I've attended 3 different nigerian universities both for my first degree and higher degree programmes. Lack of infrastructure and conducive environment in some federal universities, affect student's performance. I remember getting poor grades in some courses where a single lecturer taught over 700 students without a public address system. Back then we didn't have access to internet facilities and up to date textbooks were not accessible in the library. Then the case of lecturers who were outright sadists. Some of them believed it was impossible to make As in their courses especially those of us that studied engineering.

In some other schools upgrading of students' results is a usual practice. In fact, some departments lobby on behalf of their good students to ensure they graduate with first class honours. Also, some private universities conduct resit exams for students who failed a course and the previous grade erased. These are some of the reasons for disparity in standards.

Meanwhile, someone who was best student in 3 different secondary schools back then graduated
with a 2.2 in engineering. Well, he has gone ahead to prove himself after graduation but the scars of leaving with a 2.2 still remain.

I advise employers' to give people with lower class of degree opportunities to prove themselves.

Well if you have been affected negatively, there is life after school. Strive to be the best in your chosen field. There are no traffic jams when you go the extra mile. It may be tough initially, but in the long run you will succeed.

Power generation is usually high during raining season. It's nothing new.Not an achievement. In fact electricity was more stable this time of the year in the past couple of years during raining season.

I've developed a GUI software for an optimization problem using java.I need to use Genetic algorithm to optimize it.Can anyone assist. I'm stuck.

The multinational is better.I am a lecturer in one of the leading federal universities.I know what I've been through. If you are interested in lecturing you better get your PhD first. There is no job security or career growth without a PhD and you might not even have the time.

Please anyone in the forum who has written entrance exams for postgraduate diploma in education should help me with the exam format and type of questions.
Thanks

While I'm not holding brief for him, I have heard him give the same reasons in the past.I sympathize with him because he was not the commander-in-chief. The former president was unable to wield the big stick on the vandals and energy firms.Until the cabal is addressed there is not much any minister of power can do. Bola Ige's era as minister of power readily comes to mind.

I'm both a lecturer and a pastor. As a pastor can't remember any much exposure to seduction but as a lecturer a good number of times. The weak students think they can pass by seduction or notice me attitude. While I ignored them most often. I have had cause to scold some at one time or the other.

Congrats Dickson you're a proud Casorite & FUTO alumnus. I can remember vividly after your first year when you were given an F in Engineering drawing. You asked questions and was so discouraged in your walk with God. Thank God today you're a living testimony of God's faithfulness.

IT IS NOT TRUE.This is probably an exaggeration. The truth is that there is a dearth of PhD holders.Anybody with a PhD and knows what he is doing will definitely get a job in the academia or research institutes.
There are so many new federal and state universities in need of PhD holders. What about Private universities?Except the person is not ready to leave Lagos to other parts of the country.

Perhaps a more intelligent lie would have been better!!!!!!!!

There is no country on this planet where 99.9% of the citizens are corruption free.

I expect more from her.

The disaster of winning 2nd term in office.
The ordinary masses will end up the losers

Some positions in a team are hardly appreciated.Strikers are more appreciated in a team than defenders and defensive midfielders. This accounts for the little appreciation to some players in the Super eages like Sanni Kaita. In the 2008 Olympics, Kaita and Ajilore were very outstanding and were the ones that made much difference in that team.I'm quite sure that if kaita played in the match againt guinea we wouldn't have conceded those 2 cheap goals. Our coaches should just be objective in their selection and don't remove sentiment in team selection.Agreed Kaita cost us the match against Greece due to a little moment of 'madness' but it could happen to anyone. He should be forgiven and recalled to the team.

As for mikel, we already have better replacements if the coaches can just forget about him.Nobody is indispensable! The earlier he forget about him the better.

Quite unfortunate. My brother was also posted there. The goverment is quite insincere? Why send Youth Corp members to Borno State?Well maybe you get a docotr's report?Got some FAQ from NYSC website which might be useful.

I need special medical care. Can I be deployed to where my parents are for proper medical attention?

Yes, if you submit sufficient medical record and history from your Institution's Medical Centre or a recognised Government Hospital indicating that you have been receiving treatment as a student.
What happens in the event of death during the service year?

The NYSC takes full responsibility of the burial ceremony of the Corps member. The death certificate is to be forwarded to the Director-General through the State Coordinator for the Corps Member's death benefit.

My younger brother has been posted to Borno state. What should he do?Is there any penalty for not going immediately?

The presidential election should hold on saturday as it was in the initial timetable then Governorship should hold on 16th and House of assembly should hold by 26th giving them enough time to print the ballot papers. This is just common sense.

All the minority parties should form an alliance and present a formidable combination.Possible combinations include:

Buhari/utomi(With support from ACN),Buhari/Fashola Okonjo Iweala/Ribadu.Buhari/Dora Akunyili. She could be convinced.Or even Buhari/Bakare(/he has the tendency to accept)
