Which fruit? The doctors in your hospitals both home and abroad where were most of them trained? When there is need for referrals where are patients mostly referred to? Is it not in University teaching hospitals? The quantum of research in the universities and specialized training going on there are mostly responsible. The main reason for medical tourism is that successive governments have done little to fund the health sector.

Many of the medications/drugs you use are largely manufactured by local pharmaceutical companies who also sponsor research in Pharmacy departments of a few universities

Communication":
The Engineers in MTN, Glo,Smile and the rest, radio and TV stations were mostly trained in Nigerian Universities/Polytechnics

Banking
Those who install and maintain communication infrastructure in Nigeria are largely trained in Nigerian Universities.


Arm chair critics just sit down and condemn Nigerian universities without being able to proffer positive solutions. The truth is that until we have a government that is genuinely interested in improving the standard of education there is only very little that individual institutions can really do.
Government insists that tuition should be free and does not really provide the required funds to subsidize the cost of training each student. Compare our fees here and countries where things are really working. I have been to top Universities in the US and even South Africa and I know what needs to be fixed. Many of Nigerian lecturers in top Universities in the US have their first and some even post graduate degrees in Nigeria.

Valleys:
Until this brings any fruit, it's just like any other in Nigerian universities.

Very unfortunate statement from the minister. Don't they have the power to prosecute, jail or deport such criminals?

More disturbing is the fact that their embassy in Nigeria is very corrupt. They often deny genuine travellers visa and issue visa to those less qualified.

The same graduates you condemn as being incompetent are the ones that graduate as top of the class in postgraduate programs. The same lecturers that are not good by your standards are the ones that win competitive international grants and in hot demand in other countries. Brain drain is on the increase and many are blind to the looming disaster ahead if this is not addressed. We do not value what we have.

While I agree that a lot has to be done to improve standards we should not condemn our products. Public tertiary education is largely free with poor facilities and you are blaming the victims.

That was my condition 16 years ago when I proposed to my wife. We have been happily married now for 13 years. Despise not the days of little beginnings. With a clear vision, understanding, diligence and the favor of God we have moved far away from that level.

As much as I don't believe the story hook, line and sinker as it may just be aimed at "giving a dog a bad name in order to hang him". A person's lifestyle and antecedents has a way of affecting his image in matters like this. The probability of this incident being consensual is high.

Several valid questions have been asked which are yet to be answered. Why did she not shout knowing her sister was around? Why did she remain in the church and eventually got married to the choir master? Why did she wait for more than 15 years? Why is she disclosing it now after the husband has been relieved of his appointment as choir master? This should be an interesting case. Let the courts decide and let's avoid jungle justice.

Our forefathers used to do serious background check before marriage which really helped them. Such questions as "Who are his parents?", "Is there any trace of thieves or mental insanity from their lineage?etc. This really helped their marriages based on their circumstances then. With our westernized lifestyles and little regard to moral values, such news has become very common. Perhaps we might need a scientific solution. We may need to examine the genes of these killer spouses and isolate possible genes responsible. Psychologists may also need to be consulted to examine the person you intend getting married to unknown to him or her.

The rate at which Nigerian women are killing their husbands has grown exponentially and is proportional to the rate of male infidelity and female wickedness all other factors remaining constant

Very unfortunate. My sympathies though. However, actors and other celebrities that enjoy a lot of popularity should not take public sympathy for granted. There are so many Nigerians in various professions who are daily making their contributions to national development without any form of recognition and don't seek public sympathy for their personal problems.

Nigerians should also know that popularity may not necessarily translate to wealth and stop having unrealistic expectations on celebrities.

Its actually a crime to marry the extreme poor. Most are totally undisciplined and irresponsible that led to extreme poverty. You realize they have entitlement mentality, parasitic in nature and not really ready to improve themselves

And besides nigerians consume more of fizzy drinks(soft drinks and fruit juices) than natural fruits. And dese fizzy drinks are even more dangerious. Just yesterday evening as i was returning frm somewhere and passing the market i saw a huge pile of dumped oranges and other fruits by the roadside close to the gutter.it was dumped by the market women cos ppl no gree buy.

Also, it is likely the reporting of his lecture may not be balanced. You know how sensational our journalists could be.

He didn't say don't eat fruit. He said too much of it. We lost someone some years ago who was diabetic and wrongly advised to eat a lot of fruits.

My experience is similar to yours. I was best student in primary and secondary schools I attended but graduated with a 2.2 in year 2000. It wasn't easy but with determination and focus I have made considerable career progress as a top academic in a first generation University with a PhD and 2 Masters degrees including professional qualifications. See this as an opportunity to develop yourself. You may consider any of these routes depending on your passion:
I. Postgraduate studies
Ii. Vocational or skills acquisition
Iii. Entrepreneurship
You can also submit your CV to companies that employ 2.2 graduates. There are so many SMEs. Keep spreading your CVs. I'm sure God will help you if you do not despair.

Most successful people have a story of small beginnings except those born with silver spoons. I also sold Okpa,Akara, plantain chips, gala, old newspapers, yam, Plantain, and vegetables when I was growing up. Things were just so difficult for us. To God's glory, I am a Ph.D. holder today and a lecturer in a first generation University. With determination, resilience, well-articulated vision, focus and the grace of God, you can achieve your God-given potentials. God in His infinite wisdom still has a way of rewarding diligence.

Issa Hayatou became CAF president when in my JSS 3. After many years of acquiring all my degrees he is still CAF president fighting to continue. My first child is close to the same age I was when he became CAF president. Thank God for the wind of change.
