My life has never remained the same since my introduction to gambling 5 years ago. Those who are old romancelanders must have heard of my wailings in the past. I became broke, lost focus, sold all my belongings and became miserable because of bet9ja. Hmm.. There's just no cure for it, so avoid starting the act. Advice from parents, pastors, friends, relatives and elders can't help any one in love with betting. Bet9ja virtual dealt with me. Now merrybet booking number has taken over. I thought i had stopped until about 10k entered my hand yesterday. I play the whole 10k on borussia monglegbach to win but the fools drew 1-1. But with 'weed' or 'vaseline', you have joy for a moment and no worries |
As g growing youth, we tend to neglect the advice of our elders. We want that freedom to explore the world and have fun on our own. As from 15 years of age, teenagers try stuff like gambling, sex romp, pilfering [shoplifting], drugs, reckless spending, partying, masturbation etc. Out of these addictions, the worst i've seen is gambling [bet9ja & merrybet to be precise] |
4. Avoid scenarios that would take me back to the act I had a retrospective reflection on some of the things I do that lures me back to the act. I have decided to stop it no matter how hard. One is to deactivate my online account. Second, stop charging phones at bet shops. This is an easy passport to gambling again. Third, stop being in a haste to hold money for people or be in any financial dealings with them. This ignites the gambling fire. I'll consider having my money being stored or kept for me in a cooperative society. Finally, drop my love for sports. It was my passion for sport that put me in this mess in the first place. So I have to find a new passion no matter how difficult this might be. Cc.. Lalasticlala farano rocktation mynd44 |
3. Be more passionate about work The passion to work has dropped amongst youths. Some young girls look to patronise men in order to get quick money. Boys no longer believe in handwork or learning a trade. We idle ourselves away with our phones punting or trying to swindle people. Next year, i'll try to switch my dedication to my work. It's decent with meagre pay but at least, it can help me maintain my sanity and protect my life. It's people like me that act as teachers, typists or receptionists. They didn't die. They are surviving one way or the other. Success might only delay but will surely come. |
2. Lower my expectations my expectations are very high. I see people flaunt wealth on social media and this makes me desperate to belong. This explains why i gamble heavy so i can quickly join the league of successful people. But the consequences have been adverse. Also, problems have made me agitated. There are issues of school fees, rent, feeding and clothing that makes me desperate. But it is only after losing the little i have that i realise that a bird in hard is worth more than fifty in the bush. So i have to be contented. |
1. Join pious groups i'm the type that hangs out with people who are not serious with their faith and involve themselves often with sports gambling. Whenever we hang out, it's all about arranging games and staking to 'make it big.' This has polluted my thoughts. I'll try to reconnect with God and join religious groups that can help filter my thoughts. Hopefully, making new friends in church can help distract me. I can't even remember when last i prayed. |
Since companies like nairabet, merrybet and bet9ja entered naija, many youths have registered more losses than gains. Gambling on soccer games has weighed me down for the past three years. I have the will to change so i won't give up. Below are some tips fellow addicts who want to change can adopt this year...... |
3000 naira. But it would be used on boxing day. 2000 naira for The Genesis Show by Erigga. 200 naira for transport. 800 naira left will be spent later that day to chill out with beer and suya as i watch boxing day football. If i hear say i buy christmas cloth or carry babe for this hard times.... |
TonyeBarcanista:nice analysis. You also right about the addictive part though |
youngberry001:taah.. Make your choice. Everything is not about money |
SweetBuns:hian... The derailers have arrived |

BENEFITS OF VASELINE - less finance involved - less drama [no pregnancy scare or monitoring of your whereabouts] - more time for work or school - energy conserved as you think of only your welfare/tasks |
I've been pondering on this for long. I've experienced both. I once stayed alone and once co-habited with a girl. Which is better? Having a babe or self-service? BENEFITS OF HAVING A BABE - passionate sex - better meals - a helper with chores - someone to share your ups and downs with |
Easy pick. Bet9ja Virtual. I used all i got and sold most of my belongings to invest in its imaginary profit. It recked me and pushed me 6 years backwards. Worst decision i ever made |
adexslim93:i can relate. It has taken me back to 2008. The time i just finished secondary school with nothing. How i wish i can get an addiction stronger than gambling. Movies, music, working are not as captivating as betting. |
Headlesschicken:exactly. One wins then begins to fill like a king but it takes people back to square 1 after a little period of joy. The tension is too much to bear. I couldn't sleep |
ADRIAN88:wow.. Harsh tips but helpful. Checking any thing sports can take me back to the act. You right. What about the desire to always charge phone at betting stores since they always have light? And how do i avoid betting or football discussion amongst my friends? |
COOL10:self control and discipline has always been my problem. I guess it's because i was overpampered while growing up. Its better i stop it completely. I don't have moderation button when gambling |
Rawmalik:true. But after loosing booked games for a while, there's an urge to switch to virtual [another form of winning] |
@geoffreymgk i noticed you tried sending me a mail. I can't check that one. Use this one instead - philipalenoghena@gmail.com |
tstx:hmm.. Yea, kind of. And there was an urgent need to offset some pending debt more than 20k |
Shelumiel:what i need is prayers sir. I'm caught in a web |
I traded with almost everything in my room [T.V, DVD, Iron, bucket, fan etc] before fleeing. I used to be a bright brain but i lost focus in school and dropped out due to the addiction. Hmm... How i wish betting companies can be banned from the country. It's making youths not to think straight. I didn't even think of buying drugs or foodstuff i had planned all along before the money came |
I just lost out on my salary [15k] which i was paid yesterday. I always say i'll stop but i end up going back to the act when i have money. Bet9ja virtual makes people miserable so quick. I can't step into benin city again because i duped people of their money to gamble. One is a cult guy that threatened to kill me anytime he sees me. |
